After years of frequent short and longer power failures we decided to explore a standby generator.
Howell electric was highly recommended and from first contact with Renee through to install, the process was smooth and stress free. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and professional. Would highly recommend Howell Electric.

Like many others in the south end of Ottawa, we grew tired of the many power outages, especially since we depend on well water. The derecho in May 2022 was the last straw. We did our research, and decided to go with a Generac; and also with Howell Electric in Kemptville. We were initially surprised and disappointed with the wait time to get a unit installed, but the wait time was outside of the control of Howell (extremely high demand after the derecho leading to supply chain issues). But we were kept well advised by Renée in the Howell office of status throughout the wait. We were pleasantly surprised by the installation, particularly with the coordination between Howell, Hydro One and the Enbridge Gas contractor. We were also really pleased with the quality of the work done by Howell, and their cleanup after installation. Post installation, I struggled a bit with setting up the home owner app for monitoring the unit, but that was more due to Generic documentation issues, not Howell issues. But after that, Howell helped with completing the linking of their online monitoring app with our monitoring app. They also took care of finalizing the warranty with Generac. We would not hesitate in recommending D. R. Howell Electric to others.

We contacted D. R. Howell Electric to get a whole home generator installed to manage through the increasing issues with power outages.

Greg and Renee were fantastic and provided wonderful service and support. They were very patient with us and answered all of our questions and took care of the work with Hydro Ottawa and Enbridge. The installation team were very diligent and professional and brought portable generators to keep our fridge and freezers powered on during the installation process which was completed in one day (about 7 hours).

I would highly recommend the company as we had an excellent experience pre and post-sales.

Due to an increase of power outages in our area, we contacted D. R. Howell about the installation of a Generac whole-home generator.

Renee was our first point of contact. She was helpful and attentive, provided us with a thorough summary, and booked a consultation. Due to increased demand for their services, there was a two month wait, which is completely understandable.

On the appointed day, Gavin arrived on time. He was personable, polite and knowledgeable. He took photos of the outside of our house (including the location where we wanted the generator), and our our meters and electrical panel, and took some measurements in the basement. Afterwards we sat down and discussed what would be involved in the installation and going forward. Installation would be possible in five to six months, also understandable. Gavin answered all of our questions and gave a little information about the company and the increased demand for generators in recent years, and promised us a quote for the end of the day. It was received and we decided to proceed.

So far we have been very impressed by the service provided by D. R. Howell and I will update this review as we continue through the process.

From initial contact to the installation, everyone at DR Howell exceeded my expectations with my purchase. I ordered the Generac 26kw generator in April with installation to be planned for the fall due to other construction I had taking place. Renee was always receptive to my emails & phone calls regarding the install being delayed due to delays in my construction. Installation day in November was extremely smooth and the techs took the time after the install to show me everything I needed to know regarding the unit. I waited to write this review until the power went out and that day came in December. The unit turned on in 10 seconds and feeding the house power in under 1 minute. Great work all around!

Last June get got installed a Generac 18KW Guardian generator.
Dean took his time to find the better way to do the installation, impacting my house as little as possible both structurally and aesthetically.
We had no chance yet to test it during a blackout but scheduled test run as planned.
Renee kindly have promptly answer all the question that we had after the installation.

Had a Generac Standby Generator 22kw and other related electrical work done by Howell Electric last October. The process from initial assessment to completion of the installation was great. The install crew wrre very knowledgeable and efficient.

Howell Electric installed our Generac backup generator in April of 2022. The quality of work, the product, and the overall experience were exceptional. The generator ended up being a very good investment as a result of the Derecho that struck on the Victoria Day weekend, as we were without hydro for five days. Despite the storm damage and the wait for repairs to the hydro grid, we had power throughout our home the entire time thanks to the Generac.

I highly recommend investing in a backup generator and having Howell Electric do the installation and service!

Having got fed up with the various Hydro One outages last year we approached D. R. Howell and a few other competitors for pricing on a standby Generac generator. Right from the get-go I was impressed with the service and follow up of D. R. Howell and despite of the fact they have an unprecedented backlog of work their coordinator, Renée Vokey, always got back to me in a timely manner to address questions I had and kept me updated on both the arrival of the generators to their shop (supply chain delays!) and the installation date. The install crew, lead by Shane, were very courteous and completed their work within the allotted time and left a clean work area.

We just had our new standby generator from Generac installed by D. R. Howell Electric and are very happy. The service was great, very prompt and no issues at all. The peace of mind it brings is fantastic, especially given the recent power issues in Ontario. They installed my Generac on November 11 but they did not have a transfer switch and now I have to wait till mid December, so I now own a very expensive lawn ornament. Not sure I will even get it then.

Pleased with the professionalism of the D. R. Howell Electric company. We reach out to several manufacturers in our area for a complete house solutions. We received numerous statements to the effect that Covid-19 was a challenge and that we would have to pre-order for a site install many months down the road. Dean of DR Howell Electric visited our home and provided some insight into the process and what to expect in the way of timelines. We settled on a 20KW unit that would provide suitable coverage for both the house and our back shop. The install was flawless, clean and shows well. We where instructed on the basic functions of the Generac unit and where assisted in setting up the remote app which shows active status and historical logs.
Our quote from DR Howell Electric was competitive, firm and without surprises. We where kept well informed on the process of our installation request, they showed up when they say they would, not an easy task when you have many moving parts to an install. 5 Stars!

D. R. Howell Electric recently installed a 20 KW Generac "whole house" generator in our home. Dean Howell thoroughly reviewed our needs, recommended 3 different options as to where the generator could be located, and provided 3 quotations based on the lengths of electrical wiring and natural gas piping required. The installation went very smoothly, thanks no doubt to the competence and positive attitude of all the staff involved. Their attention to detail is phenomenal! The long lengths of piping and wiring that flow along the side of our house are securely fastened, and actually look good. The same can be said of the transfer switch that was installed below our electrical panel, and the fact that they had to fish over 60 feet of wiring through the ceiling of a finished basement without making any mess whatsoever. We are very pleased!

We decided to enhance our country living with the security of a whole house generator and were quickly advised to look at the Generac Guardian series. We contacted D. R. Howell Electric, in Kemptville, and scheduled an evaluation visit. We quickly made the decision to move forward, after speaking with neighbours, who had used D. R. Howell Electric to install their Generac generator. I was impressed with this company, even before they came to install the generator. They installed the transfer switch cables across the 50 feet of finished basement, with drywall ceilings. They did have problems, but never gave up installing this heavy cabling, to my satisfaction. You never now how good service is until you run into a problem, and believe me, it was not easy to get those cables across my basement's finished ceiling.
