Honestly give this class a try. Lee is a great teacher and his approach, and subject matter are very helpful for the beginners level. Definitely learned a lot and I would absolutely insist you give it a try. I do have some Arabic words and expressions that I use on a somewhat regular basis now thanks to Lee. Thank you for inspiring me to learn Arabic I would absolutely take this class again

I have been looking for an Arabic class like this for 20 years! Not only is Lee and gifted teacher but he brings so much kindness and energy to each class. I found the pacing really great—enough that every class I was pushed to learn more but I never felt overwhelmed. I really appreciate the clarity Lee brings regarding the specific dialect of Arabic we are learning and how it differs from other dialects. If you want to learn Levantine Arabic, Damascus Gate is an incredible resource!

As far as spoken Arabic courses go, this is amazing! Lee is not only a knowledgable teacher but he puts his heart and soul into it; and, that rubs off on the students. Entertaining, educational, and addictive. The lessons are practical and easy to put into practical use immediately. I'm all ready to sign up for the next level.

I have been wanting to learn Arabic for awhile now and this was the perfect class! Lee focuses on conversational Arabic (so you can actually talk with others!) and teaches at a great pace for beginners. I would highly recommend taking this class!

I definitely recommend this class! Within just five sessions we learned basic grammar, lots of vocabulary, and could have a basic conversation. The scheduling was extremely flexible which was key for me to be able to take this class. Lee is the best!

Took a 5-part course for absolute beginners, definitely gained relevant context for how the language works, built a solid vocab, a tremendous base to start from. We practiced with each other, students and teacher, practiced the verb tenses, nouns, adjectives, pronouns, etc. DGA is definitely a good place to learn colloquial Arabic for anyone seeking to learn it, you won't be disappointed.

This was an AMAZING introductory course to Arabic! I never thought that after only 5 lessons I would have that much vocabulary and be able to understand and express my self as much as I do! Wow! Great course! Very thorough ad specific, our teacher integrated the today's dialect Arabic learning with fun, interest and accuracy. Each class was going with a smooth flow, patience and humor. We all actually became Arabic speakers as well as good friends, and the teacher is totally devoted to our questions, needs and learning process with 24/7 availability and pleasant attitude. I gained a lot and will continue learning with him!

Lee is a great teacher. He really knows how to relate to adults in a fun, educational way. He's great about making sure that everyone in the group repeated all new terms several times, so that we all got practice. I definitely feel like this was a fabulous introduction to Arabic. (Though, ultimately, the language will really only stick if you use it - so I'm not sure how much Arabic I'll still know in a few months from now!) The only thing I'd say is that I would technically have liked the class to be a few more meetings - 5 was a bit too few for an intro, in my opinion.

I didn't know I would be able to have conversations in Arabic in only a couple of weeks! The learning experience is always a fun moment. Teachers are using educational material using words of the news or on the essential stuff we would use when talking to people in the street or in a shop.
The groups are small, we can therefore all participate and practise alot during each class.
I was taking the course of spoken levantine Arabic (Middle East) but the teacher always help us to understand stuff in classical Arabic or even in other Arabic countries.

I took a beginner group course with Ustezz Gancman and I really enjoyed it. He has a lot of resources to give out which I studied in between classes. The 5 1.5 hour classes for 80 USD is a really good deal. Taking a class with other students was interesting because I got to hear how they spoke and I realized they had questions I did not think of and that was helpful to my learning. Speaking Arabic helps me retain what I have learned. He was also nice enough to answer some questions when we were not in class.

Lee is THE best Arabic teacher I have ever had. I came to Jerusalem last year and after looking for a teacher for a while I came across Lee's page. He is adaptive, like a teacher should be. Lee is an extremely talented teacher who puts a lot of thought and effort into his lessons. He prepares clear lesson plans and gives you homework. By getting to know you, he uses your interests as references for topics of learning. Since I had a good understanding of spoken Arabic before I started, Lee teaches me Arabic in Arabic and really builds lessons around focusing on areas I’m weaker in as apposed to following a strict pre-prescribed course. He was able to reach me how to read and write in about 5 sessions. Lee is really excellent and I would highly recommend him.

Lee is the best Arabic teacher. I study levantine Arabic with him and he really helped me improve my speaking, reading and writing.

I learned Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha) over the course of several years with Lee. It is due to him that i attribute most of my progress. Incredible teacher with a great teaching style - and amazing at arabic as well. 10/10
