After many years we went back to this restaurant and found that the food was still prepared to perfection however the service was lacking in personality. The waiters at this restaurant seem disengaged and lifeless.

Wow. This place was amazing. The ambiance alone is worth the visit. The food was absolutely superb and the service was excellent. Wayne and John made it a lovely evening for us. Thank you, we can’t wait to come back.

Ordered medium lamp chops (slightly over salty), medium well New York Strip for the parents, and medium rare Filet Mignon. I guess the chef might think our table is probably not ok for raw beef, the filet was somewhat over-cooked to medium well. The taste was not bad though, so I didn't raise as an issue. Overall was good.

Recently came back to the David Duncan House after a long time. They've made some changes to the around the decor, staff, and some of the food items since when I used to come as a kid. I have to say the changes have been great. The food is once again back up to the high standards they once had with a few updates. The tableside Caesar salad, Prime Rib, and tableside Banana Foster are my favourites.

First time here. Came 2 weeks ago. Chris S was amazing! Very friendly, funny. The food Caesar salad was amazing! It is done infront of you. Will fill you up if you eat for 2. The lobster pasta is amazing so delicious! The calamari is very good. Drink wise can’t go wrong with The Artist. The place is a bit pricy BUT they are not stingy with the portions of the food. Inside it’s very old style but the food wow wow wow, so good!

Back on May 1st, 2022, I treated my family out for my 39th birthday to David Duncan House. Overall, I was really impressed with the quality from appetizers to entrees to desserts. I ordered a 12 oz. New York strip, medium and it was one of the best steaks I've had in years. Absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection. David Duncan House did not disappoint, it exceeded my expectations. My family has been eating here for years and we're always impressed. My only regret is I tipped our server $40. I should've tipped more.

This place is like you walked into the 80's. We spent $400 for 2 people with drinks etc.the food is honestly mediocre at best. The cuts of meat and quality of seafood is not a single ounce better than your traditional big box dining places like the Keg, moxies etc. Our waiter Peter is amazing he did everything we asked except there was another guy who came and tried to rush us for no reason. Definitely not a repeat.

A hidden gem in Toronto this mansion is spectacular for special events and intimate dinners.
The steaks are outstanding! You are spoiled from the minute that you walk in the door. We must have had 5 waiters. One of my favourite places in Toronto. You have to go. Enjoy!

Service is 5/5, very fast and friendly. Decor is very beautiful and different. Now for the down sides:
-table that they sat us at wasn’t properly cleaned and had left overs/crumbs…
-they sat us at a dark corner on second floor, even though we made reservations
-chicken was very dry and the side it came with wasn’t very good
-twice baked potato was just bad
-steak was good

Overall not the worst, but definitely not a place I would come back to.

First off, I held my wedding reception at the Victoria room in 2010 and had been going every year up until 2016. All the waiters knew my wife and I. The place has certainly changed since our last visit. This past Sunday was our anniversary and I decided to surprise my wife by going here. I requested our usual seating and flowers in advance if it was possible as they have provided this service previously. Did not get our usual table, it was empty as we walked past it and no flowers. No mention of our anniversary even after explaining the reason for being there to the host, busser and head waiter. No more pickles with cottage cheese and olives with your bread before ordering. My wife had to send back her food twice because it was undercooked. Shocking that even desert time, there was no writing on the plate. I typically drop $300-$400 here on a visit and this one was no different. When it came time to pay, I had $300 on gift card and was told that they could not accept a full bill payment. The waiter took off and returned a short while later saying they would only use $250, leaving me to pay the rest. NO where does it indicate on their website or giftcard that you cannot pay your entire bill. I was offered zero explanation. While the atmosphere is certainly awesome, the service is not up to par and I'm almost certain it's from the peter&paul takeover in 2017 and closed it up for renovations, which was the reason why we didn't get there in December 2017 that broke our annual visit. Officially I can say that we will not be going back anytime soon. RIP old Duncan House, you initially formed my high expectations with the simplest and thoughtful gestures and now my expectations have been altered. It isn't that I had high expectations, it was always a given.

TLDR: For $300+, go elsewhere, if however you don't mind a non top-tier establishment for top dollar, this place has good food and a great atmosphere. Nice bathroom too.

We came for the first time as our friends recommended it. We ordered some steaks and a few of the appetizers. The crab cakes were dry and tasted like tuna instead of crab, not fun of those for sure. The baked feta pasta amazing, the flavour of the honey with the feta made it really tasty. The deep fried calamari was alright, the coating not so flavorful but the softness of the calamari made it better. We had the Cesar salad for 2 and they made it infront of us, the person making it should have pull up his sleeves as they were too close in contact with the ingredients. The taste was decent, bacon pieces were tasty (if you like taste on the sweet side) as they were dress with some kind of sweet BBQ flavour. Croutons baked perfectly and the dressing made infront of us did not make a huge difference, didn't wow us but tasted fine. We had rib eye and filet mignon and they cooked them perfect, although some more seasoning on the rib eye would have made it better, for those with sweet tooth like me, amazing desserts. No comments there. The host that took us to the seating was kind and pleasant. We had James as our server, for some reason we felt that he wasn't as his 100% that day. He made a lot of mistakes and kept apologizing. We came for the 5pm dinner and his uniform was already kind of dirty. For a fine dinning that is not acceptable in my opinion, or maybe is not fine dinning and I've been mistaken. The overall experience was alright. We don't think we will be back for a second time, but like I said if it's your first time give it a go, the meats were cooked perfectly asides from little bit of more seasoning but better than Ruths or Keg quality. The sides that came with the steaks were not the greatest but ask for maybe what sides comes with the steaks. That way you know what you are getting.

Excellent place to celebrate my birthday on March 18,2022. All the staff are welcoming, shout out to James and his team for the excellent sevice. The food are nice and a big thank you for the surprised complimentary birthday cake. Highly recommended.

Know this place from social media for a while. Finally decide to visit it tonight. However, the experience is not pleasant. The receptionist is really pretentious, he just throws us into unpleasant seats. That is to say, we have to choose to sit in either a dark corner or a crowded hallway, although there are many decent and empty seats. Other waiter and waitress are friendly. Food is ok but overpriced.

It has been almost forever since I have been seated in a indoor restaurant or establishment. I was very pleasantly surprised in the very warm welcoming upon entering. The service was absolutely amazing. Our waiter Chris really went out of his way and looked after all our needs. Without interrupting the flow of our conversations. Also great atmosphere. The place was packed which was great to see. This was my first time at this restaurant. It was very good but and I do not want to criticize normally I would have gave this place 4 stars. But the extra was the care and for helping to create a safe and friendly environment.
The NY Strip was good. The onion rings were horrible. The garlic bread was way to salty for my taste. But even so, I loved being back. We all need to support and try to get a little normacy back. So come here and have a lovely steak dinner and sit back and enjoy. We all did. Thank you again Chris for serving us with style and care.

We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at DDH this evening. Our server Peter was lovely and attentive. The food was very good, amazing portions and very well presented. Definitely the perfect spot for a romantic dinner. They gave us dessert on the house, very much appreciated and tasty.

Recently celebrated my birthday at the David Duncan House and I am so glad that I did. The restaurant is so beautiful inside, I personally really like restaurants with dim lighting. Our server was so attentive and polite. Even the other staff were very friendly. The food was great, wine was fantastic. We will definitely be going back!

Went to the Duncan house for my 40th birthday expecting a great evening. They were massively understaffed. Our service was horrific. Waiters were literally running between tables and floors. It was highly unprofessional. Prices were expensive and the quantity of food was inadequate. There were many other concerns which I expressed in writing to management. This is something I have never done prior. I received an email back requesting I try them again sometime with no further apologies or compensation. The experience literally ruined this special occasion for us. We will never return. I would not recommend this restaurant. If I could give zero stars I would. Go to the Keg.

We ordered their fillet mignon steak with some sides, the food quality was good and fresh but for the price we paid, I was expecting a better dish. The interior design was very beautiful, cozy and I really like the style which was close to ginger bread house styles. The service was in a good standard as well. Overall its 4 out 5 compare to other places in same level.

Hygiene concerns! Me and my friend each had a steak and both got food poisoned. I threw up 9 times and had diarrhea the next day. First time feeling like this in my life! We will not come back.

Thank goodness for this extraordinary restaurant. I can't even begin to explain how much I loved David Duncan House. The history of the house itself is incredible, the experience was outstanding from the second I stepped inside and the food was beyond delicious. The wait staff were so attentive to our requests, both kitchen and wait staff were exceptional and so talented in presentation and the manager seemed truly humbled by the fact that I went out of my way to inform him and the kitchen of my extremely high standards that were surpassed in my visit. I truly think 5stars is not enough to give to them, as I have never in my life enjoyed a meal as much as I did at David Duncan House. I would recommend them until my dying day. Please NEVER EVER close down. Even though the prices are high, the quality of food and dining experience are beyond befitting, to the point that I would easily even pay more for the unforgettable experience I had.

If you are in North York and want to do it right, David Duncan House is top notch. The service, the ambiance and the food is elevated beyond. They will make you feel special. The food is incredible.

This is definitely a good fine dining restaurant. The lighting wasn't too dark. The Caesar salad was wonderful. It has pork belly instead of bacon bits. The lobster pasta has a fair amount of lobster meat. The 12oz roast prime rib was big. Service was good. We enjoyed our evening.

Excellent restaurant!

The food is wonderful, staff is great and it's a beautiful space. I even hosted my Baby Shower here a few years ago! Lots of space for group dinners/events.

Would also recommend ordering a drink from their awesome bartender, Filippo!

Love the ambience! If you are planning a date night this place is it.

I got a lobster pasta which was not great, but the quantity of lobster in the pasta was definitely more than any other place in Toronto. A bonus for all lobster lovers.

We also got 4 desserts and every single one of them was made to perfection.

If you get there hungry, the bread served at the start should satisfy you for a while.

I used to like this place in 2018, but the dining experience was terrible last night. Food tastes too sour and greasy, not good as before, is added too much lemon juice in it. And the staffs are impolite.

A family favorite of ours for decades. Staff provide the best service and the chef is incredible and consistent. Never had a bad meal. And the ambiance is beautiful. A real treat for the eyes and the pallet!

We had our 5th anniversary dinner for 2 recently at Duncan House. John and Vashar (?) were both very attentive and professional Our Ceasar Salad is fantastic! One of the best we've ever had. - One of the only few places that you can have Table Side Service. Our Ribeye steaks were cooked to perfection. Love the pickled sweet mini peppers. The Banana Foster was very good as well, a great conclusion to our anniversary dinner. We tried to post our review in Opentable, but found that our reservation was cancelled, thus we were unable to do so. -

It's been a few years.
Had a bad meal and the usual bad service so I stayed away.
THINGS HAVE CHANGED.
Gone are the moody old waiters.
The 2 hostesses were friendly and everyone who served at our table was friendly.
The Cesar salad for 2 at your table is still the best in the city.
Had a great time and really enjoyed the service and food.
Way to go DD House. I will be coming back soon!

I've eaten here in the past but the last visit was mediocre. Six of us had steaks and all were just average. This is an expensive restaurant so average isn't acceptable. I won't be returning anytime soon.

It’s a mix feeling for me to rate The David Duncan house. I really want to “like” this restaurant but I can’t, sorry and feeling only 3/5.
As soon as I went in, I am stunned by the decor and love how beautiful the restaurant inside, their staffs are trying very hard to do their jobs right, however there are few hiccups I left feeling so disappointed and I cannot give out my full scores. I heard about this restaurant a decade ago when I used to work in the neighbourhood. I haven’t been, not even during Summerlious because I want to save out “first time” for good. Here we are, me and my hubby went last night.
The reservation was smooth and easy, by one phone call we set ourselves in. I like they have a huge parking lot and the parking is free. There’s no way in Downtown south of Bloor districts get free parking, now of day have to drive up north to get this privilege and this location just off Yorkmills on Don Mills it’s perfectly closer to downtown and highway. Plus plus.
As soon as we pulled in, noticed just right at 6pm on a long weekend there already have lots of cars especially G Wagon and quite a few Bentley.so we know this restaurant is somewhat extraordinary.
We have been greeted and sit upstairs immediately. (Downstairs is more beautiful, so I suggest ask for it when you book) The restaurant is huge inside with 3 multiple levels including side private room and a stunning bar. Old oaks decor, colour glass ceiling, Golden status lamps, white table cloths.beautiful fine dinning place. Waiters they dress in black, served us immediately. But after he served us our garlic toast and first cocktail, we waited for another 10 minutes still no water being served. It’s not suppose the first thing come out after being seated? I look around, there’s no pickles and olives are offered like other traditional steakhouse either. Okay, maybe a little different. Customers are keep coming in as you can see they are busy, so one server have to take care of lots tables, now things get a bit delay. Have to wait for the tableside Caesar salad cart to come because one cart for each level of dining room and everybody take turns as every table order at the same time. Same thing happened at dessert time. The salad was delicious with “Candy Bacon bites”, portion is huge like a full meal to one person. The downside is they cut the Roman lettuce in big chunks, so I have dressing all over my face. Even my hubby found a bit too big to put into mouth. Suggestions: please cut it smaller?
Main course my husband ordered 12oz Rib Steak and I ordered Seafood plater. Steak was seasoning well, cook okay and tender. For the price tag it’s a good quality steak but compare it to other upscale steakhouses in town, sorry it’s not great. My seafood platter was huge with lobster, big tiger Shrimps huge scallops, king crab legs, and cheese baked oysters. They taste good but huge, better for two people than one person, better to share, no complaints here. The downside is the sever forgot the wine we ordered, and lemon water for fingers which is he promised to bring us but he forgot. So he’s busy I get it, My husband ordered Monte Crystal coffee, wait for 10/20 minutes then the server came back saying they run out of cream. Asked us if it’s okay make it without it? We are so nice to say okay, but it is not the same, without cream it’s completely different. Anyway long story short, for only $15 of the drink it’s easy to solve the problem with management’ courtesy can be charged to house right? But no one seems to care at this level of fine dining. All and all we decided we should spend our money elsewhere next time. Will not be back soon that’s for sure. It’s disappointed because I really want to like this restaurant. It has potentials but steady quality of service level need years to build. Other long history well known Steakhouse they are here for a reason because their servers worked for decades know know to handle busy and work under stress.

Food and service was amazing! Was here last year for a work event and here this year for a birthday celebration 2nd week their patio opened. Oysters - so fresh…amazing! 8oz Patio Favourite: Steak - so good and perfectly made the way I wanted it. Friend order another type of steak…perfect and buttery! The salmon - wow! Amazing! Great professional service especially with the amazing and patient Anastasia! Most importantly the Baklava Cheesecake! My oh my…we will be back for sure. Thanks to all the staff who served us tonight!

Love this restaurant. I used to get steaks there before the pandemic. It's the best ever steak I've ever had in the city. Recently I ordered delivery for the branzino. The quality is as good as dining in. Thank you so much for preparing the amazing food:)

Very nice. We went for summerlicios but ended up ordering from their regular menu which looks more interesting. We ended up with a sea food tower and a couple of appetizers. They were all delicious. We'll go again.

The David Duncan House has always been our choice for celebrating Birthdays, Anniversaries and Family gatherings. Not so anymore!
In July 2019 my wife and I were celebrating our 65th Wedding Anniversary at the David Duncan House, just the two of us. We ordered the Chateau Briand for two and were informed that it would take up to 30 minutes before serving, which sounded reasonable, although the Restaurant was almost empty.
When our Dinner arrived it was brought to our table-side by the Head-Waiter and his Colleague, where it was carved and placed on the individual Dinner-Plates along with the vegetables. – This Entrée provided for two side dishes of our choice. My wife selected the Asparagus whereas I opted for the French Fries.
Half way through the Dinner the Head Waiter approached our table to inquire how we enjoyed the Dinner so far. And this is what we told him:
To begin with, the Diner Plates were stone-cold! The Vegetables were lukewarm when they arrived. No attempt was made to keep whatever warmth they had to begin with, or restore them to original temperature, although a heating device was present on the carving table!
The two Side Dishes were a sordid Mess! The asparagus was not trimmed to remove the wooden portion, and instead of being prepared by boiling them to smooth tenderness they were thrown on a grill, leaving black charcoal-like marks on them which left a bitter taste in your mouth.
The French Fries did not fare any better! One would expect that at least the skins would have been removed! When they arrived, instead of being crisp and fresh from the Deep-fry, they were a limpid, not appetizing-looking bunch of potato strips. And instead of being asked what condiment I would like, they came with a dollop of “Miracle Whip” from a jar, masquerading as Mayonnaise.
The Head Waiter, who claimed to have been with that Establishment for 17 years, said he was sorry, and that he should have advised his Colleague to warm up the plates. — Yes! He should have!
The only good thing of the meal was that the Fillet was done to our request to perfection, otherwise it all would have been a total disaster.
In conclusion, we shall not come back for future occasions. There are plenty of other good Restaurants to choose from, eager to build up a clientele which are not even as pricey as the David Duncan House.

There's not a lot of "fine dining" in this area, but this is one of the few spots. We at here last night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Staff were great and patient as we worked out where was best to sit, as our group size changed a couple of times.
I've often found steak-house places to have food that is overcooked, heavily seasoned and with overly rich sauces. That was was not the case here. The food was well-prepared, the serving sizes were good, and a lovely wine list to choose from.
We all ordered off the Summerlicious prix fixe menu and that kept the costs very reasonable too: including wine it was just under $70 per person.
And what a great venue!
Highly recommended and I'd go back again for sure.

I had the absolute pleasure of celebrating my birthday at David Duncan House on June 24th, 2019. I love everything about this restaurant. The private rooms, food, and customer service. My private room looked so good, it was spacious, and modern looking. Being an event designer, I was able to bring in my own decor, to add to the ambiance. Nick the manager, and the waiters were so accommodating. I thank your staff so much. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone that I know!

I was at your restaurant I ordered lobster tails it was not cooked well at all and it had a smell to it did not taste good. I took a bit and leave it. I told the server but all was said to me I am sorry. I came late for my anniversary dinner was not happy at all. I been to your restaurant many times before but this is the first time I was unhappy with my meal…

The service is great and food is prepared amazingly well. I appreciate that the chefs let the foods' own flavors stand out, but personally like a little more seasoning. Bananas Foster for dessert was fantastic, and the Lobster Caesar is a small meal in itself. I would definitely return.

Amazing food and they don't hurry you. A true genuine honest to goodness "Old Fashioned Steak House" with all the atmosphere you could ever yearn for. Bravo, job well done.

Been here a few times already, food taste went straight down hill after the owner has changed.
Came here last time on Mother's Day, probably the very last time as well.
Service was averagely likable, the more experienced waiters knew exactly what they were doing. However, our server (might be a new guy) didn't know how to pour wine properly and charged us a 3rd bottle of sparkling that we didn't want in the beginning.
Not a very big deal, but the fillet mignon I got has no seasoning although the fillet itself was very good quality, mashed potato didn't taste has truffle oil in it, French beans was very bland. Very disappointing for a $50 dish.
Shrimp cocktail had 1 less shrimp than before, taste was good although they didn't present the shrimps in a cocktail glass which was weird.
My boyfriend's dad had steak frites, the fries were soggy and oily, can't believe they actually served that.
The most disappointment of the whole night, horseradish tasted like store-bought and old, not fresh at all. I mean, c'mon.
We had some problems while paying as well, somehow we can't use the membership card (not gift card) to pay gratuities anymore after we have been there a few times every year, never had an issue before. (It took more than half an hour to sort it out, on mother's day.)
Overall, appetizers have better taste than entrees, service quality would really depends on which server you get, and I hope they really try to make their steaks taste better, (for dishes averagely around $45-60, please let it be worth the money) I personally won't go back for a very long time though.

Went here for my boyfriend's birthday dinner and had a great time. The steakhouse is nicely furnished and wasn't too chilly inside either. I ordered the lobster pasta and a meat hoard on the side as well. Lobster pasta was great but i wish the meat board had some more bread as well.

The mustard spread was a favourite for the meat board. My boyfriend ordered the 12oz filet mignon and it was cooked to perfection. Thanks for the delicious dinner?

Beautiful setting, great service, and food was nice but a little rich for my taste. We tried oysters, Ceasar salads, fillets & fish.

Mano and Nick, our servers, were amazing. So attentive to detail, told us some of the history of the place, took some nice pictures for us and even surprised my Mom with a slice of cake for her belated 65th birthday and Mother’s Day. So very thoughtful and kind.
I had read mixed reviews regarding change of ownership, quality of food, service, etc. I have to say, there was not one thing where we could find a complaint.
Oysters, outstandingly delicious and fresh.
Our steaks were cooked to perfection.
The sides, perfect portion for the 2 of us. I’ve never tasted more delicious, of all things, Brussels sprouts!
Cocktails were great as well!
Management came by to check on us.overall a great dining experience.
We will be back.

Been a couple times recently and I have to say i was disappointed. David Duncan House has changed hands several times and once most recently. I think it has lost its charm. The service is good, the atmosphere is great, it just might be out of date for today's clientele.

Absolutely amazing from start to finish - We take a lot of our clients here and always leave feeling full and fabulous!
Truly a turnaround since PnP took over and revived the venue. I definitely recommend this restaurant for any special occasion

Overall the experience was great. We had a great Amex offer and took advantage of it during V-day. I really liked the food, especially the seafood. I would certainly recommend this place, especially if one has an offer from Amex or a similar agency. The package was amazing. We even got flowers and some truffles. Without a package, the prices may be a bit too high even though the experience will pay it off.
