Demetres Downtown Markham

My friend took me here last evening for a pre-birthday celebration. We were seated and presented with a menu around 8: 30pm. After 15 minutes a young man served us water, and asked if we had been served, we said no, but he took our "order" and said he'd communicate our order, but someone will come to us shortly as he's not a server. At the time we were talking to this young man, another couple walked in. At 8: 55pm the new couple was being attended to by a server and we had yet to be acknowledged by someone who could take our order. Being a minority in most spaces means we stick out like a sore thumb, so we know we were seen, but such a pity customer service is only skin deep. This was a missed opportunity to just serve two people who wanted to experience the great food and service we heard you were famous for. But alas, you only get one opportunity to make a good first impression or lasting negative one.

Best desserts in town! From crepes, waffles, icecream, sundaes, cakes to shakes and hot drinks, portions are generous and delicious.
The place is always full but the wait isn't very long. Servers are friendly and desserts are served with a smile. Keep up the great work guys

It’s such a beautiful cafe. Went there with the fam and we all loved it. The staff could do a better job maybe.

I would not recommend ordering take-out from this establishment. I visited this establishment a few days ago and ordered two cheesecakes to go. Upon arriving home and opening the box the cakes were damaged - separated crust for one and tip missing for the other. This resulted in me calling in to raise this issue. After doing so i was promised a replacement and advised that a picture was not necessary. The next day the same person calls me back and tells me that they looked at the camera and did not see any damage to the cake smh! And said they would not give a replacement after agreeing to do so.

This review is just a word of wisdom to anyone that gets take out be sure to open the box and double check what you are getting.

I will not be re-visiting this place again. Poor customer service. I recommend just dining in. But as for me I will not be back. It's not about the cake its just principle, I would not lie about having damage food.

I did not believe it was possible to have such huge, sweet, desserts. All i can say is Wow.

Came on a Monday night and it was not busy, maybe only 4-5 other tables. Ordered and waited over half an hour and the waitress came over to ask if we needed anything, seems like she completely forgot to put in our order and did not remember at all what we ordered.

She apologized and said the food would come ASAP. We waited another 10 minutes and the waitress completely disappeared. We noticed the dessert we ordered was just sitting on the kitchen countertop ready to go for several minutes and had to flag down another staff member to retrieve it for us despite having waited for about 45 minutes at this point.

Understand that mistakes happen but I would’ve expected a bit more care and attention after they realized the order was not entered.

Dessert is good, but I did not get the milk, which I asked twice, for my English Breakfast tea.

Augmented menu last time I went. Covid? Seems like drink quality and portion has been significantly reduced.

The place use to be very good but last I went, the staff seemed very inattentive, and my order of a crepe did not come. We were only informed 1 hour after the fact that they were backed up in orders but that is just way too long. They ended up giving us a free item on the menu but that is kind of ridiculous.

Everything is always so yummy. The ice creams are delicious and the waffles and crepes are made to order.

Food was good, place was too bright in my opinion, had to wait a bit to get a seat, waiting process was a bit confusing, overall okay experience.

During my experience at this restaurant, I thought the host was very kind and respecful, however, many of the servers seemed to not want to be there, and therefore the service was very lackluster. All the dishes came out and we didn't have utensils so we asked a waiter for some. He didn't give us any so we had to ask another waiter. The previous time we tried going, it was around 10pm and we were put on the waitlist (understandably because we really wanted to try it and we thought it'd be worth the wait). However, tables of 4 kept leaving over and over yet no tables were being cleaned by the servers. We waited for 1.5 hours and ended up giving up and not eating that night.

Regarding the food, I think it's decent, but very overhyped and VERY sugary. A single dish can be spilt among 3 in my opinion. A friend ordered the pomme pilot with belgian waffles which I thought was actually pretty nice. However, I ordered the unbrûlévable with a liège waffle and, for the same price as the belgian waffle, it was not worth it. It was a quarter of a waffle yet so sweet that I had trouble finishing it. I would recommend the pomme pilot with belgian waffles if anyone was going there. I dont think the liège waffles are very much worth the high price.

Overall: Service 1/5, Food 3/5.

It's boujee so of course it's expensive, you go for the relaxing experience and cute decor. I ordered a chai tea latte, but the flavor was weak, they needed to add cinnamon sticks. Also had the huge ice cream boat.

Always loved Demetres! Since they reopened it been hard to get a seat inside but if you don't live too far, they do takeout and it's super fast and easy to use their online ordering system.

My cheesecake was pretty awesome! Not the cheapest place, but if you're looking to eat dessert as your whole meal, this is the place to go.

Kiyara served me. She made my life better by walking in and taking my order. I was so depressed and in such a spiral but when she gave me that ice cream my life turned around. I became a better man. Thank you kiyara?

Belgium chocolate ice cream was really nice but the presentation is not at all to the mark. The pic is of tongue depressor and added banana on top of it with extra chocolate sauce.i was visiting after a while, seem pretty changed then what it used to be. The place itself looks beautiful but I was hoping for better presentation of the food and something better than what I ate.

Was there on Thursday August 19,2021 around 10: 45 pm, I was waiting when everyone else was served on my table, I had to remind the staff that my order is still pending and then I was served with wrong order, and had to wait more while everyone with me had already finished their dishes.
Not the service I expected.

This franchise used to be a lot better. Waffles once crispy now limp and the ice cream once buttery smooth now shards of ice. Hard to stomach a now $19 price tag for a dessert that isn't as perfect as it once was. It's not even that hard to get right.

We happened to pass by Downtown Markham during the heavy rain. We wanted to have something for our afternoon tea. We were lucky to find this place. It was a decent place to hang out. The ambiance was relaxing and the restaurant was clean. They followed the protocols carefully and kept a good social distance between customers. The menu had a great variety of desserts and coffee for our sweet tooth. We ordered their signature expresso drink called Stormy Weather. It was an espresso with honey vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce & whipped cream. The presentation was nice but we found it too sweet. The price was not cheap but it was reasonable considered the portion and the location.

I came in to the store feeling very depressed and saddened, but Kyara came in and saved the day. She truly made me feel welcome and showed me the meaning in my life when I needed it most. I’m a better man after seeing Kyara serve me a banana ice cream, and I’ll never be the same after this experience

Seated immediately for walk-in on a warm October Saturday night at 8pm. Credit and debit accepted only. Cute decor, lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Prices are steep: $18.50 for waffles/crepes, $5 coffee, $6 tea. Portions are admittedly huge but still do not justify the prices. I’d prefer if the portions, and consequently the prices, were simply smaller. If ordering a waffle/crepe, I would definitely recommend sharing. I do like that the waffles are offered in both Belgian and Liege varieties though. Service was slow because this place seemed horribly understaffed. Our server appeared to be very busy but doing his best. In general, noticed quite a few tables not being cleared in time for the growing line-up at the door throughout the night. Though obviously not the fault of the limited staff, all things considered.

Placed an order online for pick up and waited 40 min for 3 shakes. Went inside and asked to talk to the manager. The shift supervisor was the one that was talking to us. She said the drinks would take a couple more minutes and they told us the same thing every time we went inside. She said she can cancel our drinks but did not give any confirmation. All she said she can do is write on a piece of paper that she cancelled our order. I'm sorry but did we time travel back in time? That's how they offer refunds now? No problem solving what so ever from the supervisor. Will never go back to this location.

Came here on a busy Sunday expecting to have to wait but after putting our name down on the waitlist we continued to wait for another hour before we asked the hostess for an ETA. She kept looking through her list unable to find our name, we honestly don’t think we would have been seated had we not asked. The staff felt very unorganized and overworked.

Tables were left uncleaned for almost 20 mins, when they could have instead been seating people. This is no judgment on the staff because they all seemed very hardworking and our server was extremely friendly and quick. Rather I think management could do a better job at organizing duties or hiring another staff to lessen the workload.

On a Friday night at 9pm there were at least 6-7 empty tables on the patio not cleared and they were telling people it's a 40 min wait. Not sure how the manager running this place thought this was okay. At least 15 customers came and left because they didn't want to wait. When we asked about empty tables we were told they are waiting to be cleaned. It takes 40 mins to clean a few tables?

We sat on the patio, which was nice, but our table was on uneven ground and kept teetering back and forth. Service was pretty good but they kept forgetting to bring us our cappuccino. However, they let us stay as long as we want even though we were done eating. The food was as expected; huge portions but nothing mind-blowing in terms of flavour. It was as we expected. All in all it was a good experience!

I’ve always visited this location ever since they shut down the Beaver Creek location in Richmond Hill. Parking is a few steps away from the actual location, it was a bit confusing at first.

Their service over the last few times I visited (before COVID) have always been average, but their dishes are consistently presented well and in big portions (I guess that’s a Demetres thing).

After Mar 2020 I’ve ordered from them a few times, including their 6 pint ice cream bundle. It’s packaged well and comes with a cooler bag! The crepes are just not the same on take out as they are when it’s hot and fresh when you dine-in.

Last night I had an ice cream craving so I decided to do a last minute search on UberEats. Surprising to find them available on the list at 11: 30PM! Ordered 2 ice cream pints (Honey Vanilla & Strawberry) & Chai Fall + Hot Couture drinks (too sweet, way different than dine-in).

They had a promo that came with a few Banana & Dolce ice cream pint with orders over $30. Nice bonus! Order delivered within 40 minutes, and surprised to find an extra ice cream inside (Rocher), a little something on the house, now by far my FAVOURITE ice cream flavour.

Will definitely order again the next time when I finish devouring my pints of ice cream!

Cheers to outstanding service during the pandemic!

Ordered Splitsonian French crepe via Uber Eats. It was delicious & a large portion-size. Ice cream arrived cold and unmelted after being en route 10+ minutes, though I think the crepe is fine without the ice cream added to it. Too bad the calories are so high on these dishes or I would grab dessert here more often.

Awesome desserts and drinks along with excellent customer service. Been to two locations and both are top notch. Keep up the good work and please don't let the service slide because that's one of the the keys what makes a business successful.

This location is spacious and well laid out.
Disappointingly, they were short staffed so the service suffered. Also if/when items aren't available with an order, server should notify customers instead of us having to ask what happened. Lastly the size of the milkshake was very surprisingly small, and too watery in consistency.

Fortunately the desserts I had here in 2018 were too good. Unfortunately, it was so good that I forgot to take pictures of them. The service was pretty great based on the fact that it was extremely busy. The staff are also quite friendly. The prices are reasonable and portion size is significant. Parking is very convenient too. The location is situated in a nice area with entertainment nearby. Not sure when I haven’t gone back, but I’ll definitely try to revisit to try other desserts. When I finally realized I didn’t take any pictures, these chocolates were all that were left.

Although this place is eye catching, the dessert is really just not worth it. If you’re looking for great ice cream then this is the place for you but other than that, you could get great desserts anywhere else.

If you have a sweet tooth it's a must try. Service was excellent and food was quickly served. Traffic is very dense in the area. Perfect place to go before catching a movie across the street. Wish that the decor were more modern. Had an early 2000s retro feel.

Definitely the nicest Demetres location I’ve been too! It’s new and feels like you are in a Lewis Carroll novel.
Lower rating strictly for the lack of parking. Directly behind the building is an uneven gravel construction lot.

This dessert restaurant serves up crepes and waffles with your choice of icecream and toppings. Their menu boasts an assortment of sundaes, cold drinks, cakes and teas.
The Markham location is big and spaceous. The decor is gorgeous. Staff are friendly and prices are competitive.
Be prepared to wait 10-15 to ne seated.
