I drove to Chicago over the past summer to have deep dish pizza, which was amazing. Descendant is the best pizza I've eaten this side of the border, and rivals Chicago, New York and Detroit authentic pizza. Amazing food, great environment and excellent service. Price was on point as well. Amazing job!
My favorite pizza in the city! A bit of a schlep for me, but well worth the journey. I had the "No Name" and it was fantastic, 4 nice sized " slices" in a small pie, so there was enough for leftovers the next day. Service was great and we snagged street parking on a Saturday no problem. Highly recommend.
Awesome pizza! There are several choices, one better than the other. The place is cozy and small and if busy, it maybe a bit difficult to move around but the service is really good regardless. Definitely recommended.
Been looking for a deep dish pizza place in toronto for so long. I got tired and rather envious of constantly watching dave portnoy on Youtube gulping back deep dish pizzas in america like some sort of starving sea mammal, so when i heard about this place, i knew i had to try it.
They did not disappoint. I got the truffle pizza (one of their most popular) and it was delicious!
Just to be clear, thr crust isnt just a thick/over sized crust as some “deep dish” places claim. It was perfectly baked and tasted amazing; it had the perfect amount of crunch, thickness and texture.
Definitely Coming back to try the rest of the menu
Only concern was i wish they had a wider selection of pizzas; like the classic deep dish pizza with just fresh mozzarella and tomato sauce on top.
Solid zero for me, although I do recognize this may be a personal preference.
Regardless, the oiliness, the denseness, the lack of good quality toppings just made this so gross to me, but other people like it so you may as well, but I definitely would never ever order from here again.
Also their garlic dipping sauce just taste like a plain mayonnaise, sour cream mix.
Also, I went to the university of Windsor, so I spent a decent amount of time in Detroit and never had pizza this bad while I was there.
These pizzas were so so delicious. I love how they took a traditional dish from my culture and put it on a pizza! My whole family enjoyed them, and great location too. Customer service was nice as well. I got the TRUFF-GHI pizza and the JAFFNA pizza. Thank you so much and hope to come back soon!
There's no way to put into words how incredible the pizzas were. We were a little skeptical of the size at first vs the price, but after the first bite we were sold. The ingredients tasted fresh and the flavor was amazing. By far the best pizza I've ever had in my life.
Spectacular pizza. It’s on the best pizza in Toronto list… It should be best pizza in the Milky Way just in case there’s some extra terrestrial Za out there trying to replicate this. You can’t even describe the pizza standing up your knees go weak from just a memory of it. You’ve got to sit down just to write a review that’s how good the pizza is…
Not a ton of veg options, and expensive. But as far as non-woodfire pizzas, this is easily the best in Toronto. It’s just so SO good. Highly recommend. I got the regular cheese and honestly, you don’t need more toppings than this to be blown away.
It was a bit of a wait to get the pizzas but man it was worth every minute, my wife and i were in from Montreal and we had to try it.we’ll definitely be back to try more of them.
The most delicious pizza I have had in a long time. The edges were crispy not burnt. The pizza is definitely a rememberable experience. If your looking for a pizza fix look no further as this place will hit the mark everytime.
This pizza is simply sublime! And, although it may seem a little expensive, it's worth every penny. Had the Barese for the first time a few days ago and I give it 11/10.
It's worth the drive! Their No Name is THE GOAT of pizza in Toronto, periodt. The crust so thick and chrunchy yet the middle so gooey with cheese! Dayuuum. Their other pizza also no joke. But the spicy dip, oh man it makes your scalp on fire
Pizza was excellent. No wonder it took 45 minutes to make. Like others have mentioned. It's the perfect "deep dish". The ratios are perfect and flavour is on point.
Probably one of the top 3 Pizzas in Toronto regardless of what style you’re a fan of. Cooked right, topped right and tastes even better, highly recommended Revisited them again a year later September 12th 2021 and they still doing it right here
Nothing more to add to all the praise for Descendants. Been going here for years and it's easily my favourite pizza in the city. I've recommended it to many, and no one's ever been disappointed. If you like your toppings over the top and swimming in sauce, and if you like your crust crisped on the ends and bread-baked throughout, this pizza is for you. Highly recommend!
TRUFF-GHI - STRONG mushroom flavour- the white truffle sauce is sooo good! - We got a side of House Ranch and dipped it with the pizza and jsandjasn, this combo was pretty good too LOL - Whole box came piping hot: D
ELECTRIC AVENUE - Ngl, this was pretty spicy! So don't use as much of the hot sauce (Diablo’s Fuego hot sauce) if you can't handle it. - The crust was crunchy and delicious!
OTHER Man, this place is so good! I pretty much have nothing but praise for it, and it was definitely worth the 45 minute wait- which was also extremely accurate as we came back exactly after 45 minutes and our order was ready to go. Both the pizzas had very fresh tasting ingredients and came out nice and hot. One slice of each basically filled me up LOL, especially since they're pretty thick slices. Pizza lover or not, I highly recommend anyone in the area to give this place a try if you have time to spare (waiting). I'm definitely going to come back again to try more of their pizzas!
Definitely one of the best pizza places in Toronto. Each pizza is a crafted in a way that makes all the constituent flavours shine. These pizzas are deep and complex. The crispy crust and flavourful dough just round out something great. I would highly recommend the Gatt Daddy and Truffghi pizzas. They are truly unique experiences.
They used to be my go to place for pizza but today they changed my mind I will never go back to them ever again, pizza quality used to be really good, now you get greasy stuff they call pizza!
Amazing pizza. First time trying Detroit style and the dough, though it seems like a lot- is extremely light and fluffy. Resembles a great focaccia. Sauce is excellent, with just the right amount of tang, but the cheese is really the star of the show, especially the charred areas along the side. Highly recommend the pepperoni and Gatt Daddy pies.
No outdoor sitting as of this writing and expect to wait about 25 min for the pies. Call ahead of time if you don’t want to wait. Well worth a trip.
One of the best pizza spots in Toronto. Atmosphere is very cozy and funky and the servers are very friendly. The pizza is always served hot and very crispy. The ranch sauce is always an excellent addition to your meal. The service was fast and the owner came over to our table to check on our meals. Will definitely be back!
A friend of mine recommended the Jaffna pizza (vegetarian) and I really enjoyed it! They drizzled on a sauce that tied it all together and the roti pieces were a unique addition! Looking forward to grab another slice when I’m in the area!
They make one of the best pizza in the City. However, the service is not the same. I had two bad experience in the past month. I love their pizza but I dislike their horrendous customer service.
What an AWESOME pizza! Just loved the whole experience. Ordered a small Barese and Jaffna. It was my first time having a detroit style pizza. What made it great was the taste in each and every slice. Every slice/piece left you with the feeling of fresh ingredients. It is a relatively thicker slice so be careful while ordering. Definitely worth trying if you are in the area, I know I would for sure.
A must try if you live in Toronto or are passing by. Their pizza is delicious and very unique.
Although they are expensive and require ordering in advance, it is definitely worth it. However, the pizza can make you feel a bit heavy so I recommend having it once in a while.
Saw this restaurant on some list of best places to try in TO, quite happy to have given it a try. Count about 25-30 bucks for a small pizza and about $10 per drink, so I wouldn't go every day but worth a try.
Stopped in for lunch, first off, amazing pizza and highly recommend. Here's what you need to know.
A nice cozy spot, pizza is pretty outstanding. The small size is enough for two ppl. The venue is cozy but they do offer take out. The pizza does take time to cook so be patient it is worth it. Also for the beer gal.or guy they have a descent selection of craft beer. Prices for the beer are a little high though.
Steep price, but what you'll get is one hell of a deep crispy pie. It will take less slices to fill you up than you think. Get one with sausage. Cool decor, nice service, good beer in can selection. Go eat it.
Finally had a chance to try this Detroit-style pizza joint and it handily met very high expectations. The “Jaffna” pizza was well-balanced with the South Indian flavours and not overpowering. The “no name” worked well, balancing meatiness with hot and sweet background. Sauce and cheese ratios were spot on. Service was attentive in the small dining room. Tip: get multiple small pizzas instead of one big one to try more flavours. Also, any place that serves Vernors ginger ale is Paton attention to detail.
By far the best pizza I've had in Toronto. The ingredients are always fresh and their one of a kind styles of pizza are as delicious as they are unique in flavours.
For me this is the best Pizza in the city. It's Detroit style pizza which could take on the best pies Detroit has to offer. These pizzas are made with talent and passion. Can't say enough good things about the food. Try their dip sauces. Also really good.
Upon first glance of your small pizza when it arrives is this feeling if disappointment because it looks so tiny. My friend and i thought we would both have to order another small pizza fto fill ourselves up. Don’t be fooled by the small size because they don’t skimp on the ingredients and a small is very filling. I really like their electric avenue pizza which is a jerk chicken pizza with fresh pineapple. Their hot sayce that comes with the pizza could definitely be a lot spicier but that is probably my only gripe.
One of the best pizza I have ever had. Lots of flavours and quailty ingredients that make your tastebuds wanting to eat the entire pizza. The restaurant is a bit small so either make reservations or come earlier during dinner time.
I went to this restaurant with my 12 year old and both of us really enjoyed it. The pizza was amazing, and so was the waiter. The only thing that was hard about it was the wait (20 mins), and that it was a little pricey. Over all, a great place.
My goto pizza in the City of Toronto. Bit pricey when factoring in Uber delivery and sometimes a bit of a delivery wait, but the quality of ingredients/taste is amazing.
Delicious pizza that greatly exceeded my expectations. Their pizzas are packed full of flavor and have a thick but light and pillowy crust that's crispy around its edges. I highly recommend and I'll definitely be back.
Great food to be enjoyed by all pizza lovers Wide assortment of pizzas with a unique crunch crust that captures 'Detroit style' Would recommend but seating space is limited
The pictures don’t do that pizza justice! I still dream of this pizza every night. Im from montreal and when i go back to toronto im definitely going back here! This is a deep dish pizza with mushrooms, bacon, cheese sauce? Caramelized onions. Yum.

I've only ever had their pepperoni pizza, but I love it. I am also a pizza maniac, so for me, it is a very low bar for me to be happy with a pizza meal. However, they're pizza is genuinely good, thick, but baked through and with a good crunch. In keeping with Detroit style, the pizza is square and they do add tomato sauce to the top which ensures a strong tomato flavour. I love it.
Probably the best pizza i ever tasted. Drink prices are reasonable too and staff are friendly. Not a lot of space for eat in. I would say has seating for around 24 people. Nevertheless the place was amazing and i would recommend them to expand.
Pizza crust reminded me of an older version of how Pizza hut used to taste back in the days. But the pizza quality wasn't all that, and I tried two separate pizzas on two different occasions. I don't see the hype built up behind it to be honest. You can get a better pizza at margarita pizza, ilfornellos or pizza libretto. Both times this pizza ran my belly. I don't think I'll be eating here again.
Damn good pizza, got the canadian and what a nice meal. Staff are really friendly and welcoming, toppings were fresh and they didn't hold back, it's easy for any place to serve pizza but it's hard to master and stand out from other pizzeria's. This is Toronto's best pizza
Incredible pizza. Really small place, so make sure you make reservations. Try the Jaffna pizza. Simply to die for. What a hidden jem in the Leslieville and maybe one of the best pizza's in town. Must visit for any foodie. P. S.it taste awesome the next day as well!
