This place offers you a no-frills dim sum experience that makes you feel like you’re dining in Hong Kong / Singapore / Malaysia (we’re native to those countries so we can definitely speak to this)! They push a cart around and offer you freshly made steamed dim sum and other stir fry / fried dishes. The portions are good, everything is freshly cooked and my personal favourite is the shrimp & chives dumpling— SO YUM!

The prices are competitive, the servers are very attentive and they speak a smattering of cantonese, mandarin and english. We made a reservation but ended up not needing it because the place wasn’t packed at all (Saturday, 2pm). However, I’ve heard otherwise about others who’ve had to queue up for a table when they tried to do a walk-in.

TLDR: what delicious experience, we’ll definitely be back to get our dim sum fix!

Dim Sum King in Toronto offers decent but unremarkable food, accompanied by average service. While the restaurant proudly displays famous people who have dined there, the overall experience fails to impress.

They overcharged us, which is unfortunate. My girlfriend mentioned a mysterious $12 charge but only mentioned it later.

We had 5 L, 2 XL and 1 M items. We ended up tipping generously on top of that. Very disappointed in their dishonesty.

Will not be back, feels like a jab at us for not being able to read their handwriting (Mandarin or Cantonese I assume).

Dim sum is good and authentic. However, do gesture to the servers if u want to order food - as I witnessed a caucasian couple sat quietly for a good 15 mins waiting to be served - this is not how it works in a dim sum restaurant

This was my first dim sum place so maybe I'm bias but I loved this place! The steamed pork buns were amazing no complaints! Reasonable prices too.

My family's go-to spot for dim sum and dinner! It also feels like they've upped their dim sum game recently, the quality is even better than before. Also they have people pushing around the carts depending on when you go. The food comes out hot and delicious, one of the best in Chinatown for sure. Also the restaurant is big enough so there is good spacing between tables and dividers to follow covid restrictions.

My new fav dim sum place! The cart service is excellent! Our table was full of all the dishes we wanted as soon as we sat down. Delicious and friendly service! Loved the sesame balls for dessert as well.

Great dim sum amongst great competition with Rosewood down the street. Here, I believe the service carries this restaurant further up a rating, as the servers are friendly, compared to the horrorshow service many good dim sum restaurants are infamously known for. The har gao and siu mai were particularly tender and flavourful.

Dim Sum was a hit or miss for certain foods. Our congee was very bland and had no flavour. Steam rice rolls were good, same with the standard pork and shrimp dumplings. This place can get very busy, but has a lot of seating. Social distancing measures in effect. Vaccination passport is required for dine in.

I am from Ottawa and make sure to come here anytime I am in Toronto. The food is fresh and delicious with very generous portions compared to other Dim Sum places. The ambiance is nice-great Covid protocols with the plastic shields up! And the service is always sincerely friendly despite a language barrier. I highly recommend!

The restaurant is on the 3rd floor, small elevator fits about 5 people or 1 stroller. During dim sum hours (morning to lunch), cooked food is pushed around in carts for diners to choose from. The food is soooo good, my fave place for really good standard dim sum, fair (but not cheap) price. There are other dim sum places with frills and more interesting dishes that all comes with a high price tag.i like this place for the great dim sum standard experience. Good eating!
18 December 2021 13:54
Small soup portion for the price, but great food, customer service. Think before you sip, they charge you $3 for the complimentary green tea kept on the table.
15 December 2021 13:21
Great photo! Fast. Relatively cheap. Squid came at same time as the dessert, but was worth the wait!
15 December 2021 13:14
Amazing and friendly staff. They walked around with food on trays so you could see the visual appeal firsthand. I got more than what I was expecting.
07 December 2021 23:23
Good quality food there. Staffs are welcomed and sincerely. Pushing trolley made food choices much easier and fast. Price goes up this year. Probably increased cost from Covid management.

Good quality food there. Staffs are welcomed and sincerely. Pushing trolley made food choices much easier and fast. Price fair. Highly recommended.

Always excellent service and food. Thank you so much for putting so much care in to your Covid protocols. Plastic sheets separate every single table so your family can dine with piece of mind. They definitely make sure the carts come over to you, even if you request to sit in the back of the dining room. 10/10 dim sum, best in Chinatown

Nice place! I would say that the food was very good and that the freshness and quality of the food was good! Price wasn’t too bad comparing to other places.the staff was all masked, and there were dividers between tables, which was really relieving.overall it was a nice experience!

Pretty decent dim sum. The har gao and siu mai are good. They don't offer any other tea flavours other than jasmine. The rice noodle rolls were too thick and the bean curd roll wasn't very good. The sticky rice didn't even come in the lotus leaf and was dry. Definitely not comparable to Markham or even GTA. Also it was really expensive for the quality you get. It was 80 for 10 dishes. If you have to go, I would say order the items that they make the most often.

Giving a very honest review here- this place is just average. There are so many better places for dim sum around china town that going to this place is not worth it. Slow YET rushed service, servers are impatient! Got shrimp hargao, shrimp and chives, spring roll (soaked in grease) and few other items. All items below average!
06 September 2021 2:25
I've been to different dim sum places (quan dim sum, etc) and i enjoyed this place a lot. They had a ton of variety and the food was quality. The vibe was pretty great too, very busy which is to be expected. Hidden gem in Chinatown

Food was decent, some dishes were too salty.
The service was absolutely terrible. We had a severe peanut allergy in the family and we wanted to double check all of our dishes we ordered did not contain nuts, our waiters proceeded to lecture us about how their food is clean and we will tell you if they had peanuts or not in a yelling manner.
We had one dish with peanuts in it and our waiter used the spoon from that dish to serve other dishes to our plates.
While serving our dishes, the waitress would drop food on our table and then proceed to pick that food up and put it on our plates.
We started to complain but all the manager did was hover over our table, checking up on us every 5 minutes.
It is safe to say we will not attend this place again.
I do not write reviews but this service really made my family uncomfortable and I had to share it.

Good dim sum option in Chinatown. My first time but family has been previously. They loved it before but today just okay. I'm not a big dim sum fan but some of the options we well done.
23 January 2019 9:25
I'll be back. I so wish I knew Mandarin so I can communicate better. I am always upset at the fact I can't understand the bull and feel I was over charged for my meal. It just didn't add up and thus I wish I could speak so this doesn't continue to ruin my experience.
18 January 2019 21:55
Dim sum here is pretty decent. But I feel that the quality of the service has gone down significantly in recent years.
There are only few food carts out at a time, and even these few carts carry the same repeating items only. Moreover, the restaurant is way more crowded these days, some food carts just never reach certain tables. Of course, we could place some specific dim sum orders, but the waitstaff didn’t seem too happy about it and strongly suggested us to wait for carts which would have never come.
The price has gone up in recent few years as well. The cleanliness could definitely be improved.
This is still a good place to try the dim sum experience, but I would recommend other places around if you want to enjoy more varieties of dim sum more comfortably.
17 January 2019 2:28
Have come here multiple times. The dim sum is really good. Prices are also very reasonable. The staff is also very polite and helpful. Some of our favourites are the Har Gow and Su Mai. Will definitely come back.
05 January 2019 1:53
Great food with terrible service. Half of what came to our tables were wrong and they gave attitude when we asked if it's what we ordered. Constantly pushed us to buy drinks and order more. Servers kept having loud argument right in front of us.

If you don't mind bad service or have someone who can speak the language you'd have a better experience, but we won't be coming back.
01 January 2019 21:55
I been eating a fare share of chinese foods and the least i can say about this place is foods serve is not up to standard or i might have high taste.foods is cold/lukewarm, need to treat peo p le as customer wheather they are tour groups or people walk off the street.price wise i cant judge since i do not see the manue, but the quality of the foods serve me tonight i would stay away for a long time.people said it good might be due to hunger or have not been to other place.

Good was great, the service was really good too, and the ladies pushing the carts were all very kind and helpful in explaining what meat was in each dish for a friend who had allergies.

The place is large and spacious, and it is a nice and bustling atmosphere. Would recommend!

Also their egg tarts are extremely delicious, and dare I say the best egg tarts I’ve had downtown! They were fresh, the pastry was flaky, and the egg custard was soft and creamy.

Went here based on a recommendation and it did not disappoint.very large seating area with exceptional service. The was very attentive to our needs. All of the food was very delicious. This will be my new go to spot for Dim Sum
16 December 2018 12:42
Omg.this place is a must go if you are in Toronto. The dim sum was amazing AND the roast duck is possibly the best I've ever had (for sure better than any in Las Vegas).
03 December 2018 2:14
Took dad here for brunch last Sunday. Dim sum was yummy and they had a few items we don't usually see at other dim sum places. Service is efficient but wish we could have ordered the items from menu instead of waiting for carts to come around. Not a bad brunch overall - I gave it four stars as the elevator in the building is broken and from what locals tell me this has been a chronic problem for years, which makes accessibility an issue.
18 November 2018 17:15
One of the better dim sum places downtown. Okay selection and staff are generally fairly nice. Prices are okay. Decor is okay. Not very upscale. Can get quite busy. Cleanliness leaves a little too be desired. Building is not accessible for anyone with mobility issues. The one incredibly old elevator is and has been down for as long as I can remember. So expect to climb 3 flights of stairs to get there. Also, check the food closely before consumption. I have been served spoiled food at least once, which they promptly removed from our bill. Unfortunately, there are not many dim sum places to choose from in the Chinatown area.
13 November 2018 2:22
Dim sum carts! Rare in Toronto now! So fun to chase after, and take the dim sum away from somebody else. You snooze you lose, dim sum rookie: I watch my dim sum like a hawk.
12 November 2018 13:03
It's REAL. The servers with the carts were all so nice. The food was good, but the real draw of this is the ambience. Hustle bustle of the carts going by. And there is a tremendous amount of variety of food. I love dim sum. To be honest, I have had more delicious, so that's why I gave this only a 4, but it was a great experience for sure. If you've never had dim sum, this is a GREAT place to start. Excellent for a group of people, too! (Everyone should know in advance you will pay the total bill divided by the number of people. Dim sum is a food you share. This is not like eating at a sushi train where you pay for YOUR plates only. No, with Dim Sum, when a basket is taken off the cart, that basket of food is meant for the table to share!)
07 November 2018 19:31
Brought my staff for a weekday lunch. Food was excellent, the food carts were plenty, the restaurant was clean and the restaurant staff were friendly. Value for the dollar with the weekday lunch special was fantastic. It was so good my team asked to make it a regular event. Bravo!

Having tried a lot of Toronto's Dim Sum option I am not sure what took me so long to try here and I am sorry that I waited so long. I can't speak for weekdays, but I went with my daughter on a Sunday. Best cart service I have had in a while! Friendly staff, tasty food served hot with lots of options going by. Medium dishes were $4.30, Large $5.30, Special feature $6.00. This us slightly higher than others in the neighborhood, but not significantly so and definitely worth it. If you have not tried the King you should!
03 November 2018 4:44
Very busy place with mediocre food and terrible service. Food came out slowly and wasn't amazing (I'm Chinese). The staff was rude to our group of 5 and caused a scene when there was a mix-up that led to us giving less tip than usual. There's no shortage of dimsum restaurants in Toronto and we'll be taking our business elsewhere.
15 October 2018 19:25
Slow food service. Not sure what happened but there were just the same 2 or 3 carts circling the restaurant Took another 30 or 40 mins at least for a new cart of food to come out. Then everyone just rushed the cart before it made it to the tables.

Food was decent. Price was a bit expensive. They did have high chairs for kids. Bathrooms weren't the most disgusting I've ever seen in Chinatown.
10 October 2018 2:31
Great dim sums! $30 is more than enough to be stuffed.
Most of servers are not able to speak English, but you can show pictures of dim sum you want and they will help you.
06 October 2018 9:58
Nothing great here the food tastes like plastic nothing really to write home about won't be back too busy too loud prices are reasonable but many more options are available
03 October 2018 5:14
Ordered tilapia here and for the price (26 dollars), expected it to be live, given the fish tanks on display. However, it was very small, and its taste and texture suggested that it was dead for some time prior to cooking. Everything else was decent, but I definitely expected more for the price.
24 September 2018 14:04
This place has a lot of history and honestly an escape from the downtown core. The staff seem to be unfriendly but when you engage a little bit, you will see that its not unfriendly they are just busy and will genuinely take care of you like an older relative. The food is a little above average, but honestly there are only a few items that stand out as being exceptional. The pricing is quite low so you can have a really grand meal for under 20$ quite easily. Would recommend a visit if you are coming from out of town.
