One of the best Asian food in town. Really enjoyed the food,
The only thing is unbearable (compare to the long wait) is the waitresses are rude. Different treatments to people with different ethnic background. I can totally heard they gossiping or criticising about customers in different table in Cantonese.

If you come here and see so many non-Asian people also like this restaurant, than you probably know this is a good restaurant

The service was very poor. When we first entered we were not acknowledged. The did apologize for the wait. Food was very mediocre. The noodles were fresh but the broth had no flavor. Beware when it says double boiled beef with noodle soup there is not much flavor and only a couple of tiny pieces of beef fat. The only redeeming factor was the hot sauce. They ran out of pork Xiao long bao, which was the purpose of our visit. We settled for the pork and crab. It was the best part of the meal, and it was just decent. We were still eating and they brought the bill. I was very annoyed as I still had a fork in hand and wasn't finished eating. I felt like they were rushing me out. We paid $91 for 2 people and left mildly full.

The soupy dumplings are the best in the GTA. The rest of the menu is pretty good too. Might not be the most popular but food and service are always consistently good. It is my go-to place for good Shanghainese dishes.

A place for Toronto Chinese in the know to get soup dumplings, hand made noodles. Also the squid tentacles are awesome.
If you can't get to one I'm sorry for your loss.

Ding Tai Fung - 3.5 stars is more accurate. We really do enjoy the food here, but the prices are a little higher than we would like. The chili wontons are a must order as well as their braised beef noodle soup, hot and sour soup and the xlb (my daughter loves them). There are cheaper xlb's at Juicy Dumpling, but I ain't about to drive down to Yonge/Eg or Dundas/Spadina area. #TomEatsYummyFoodBecauseWhyNot

Dumplings are nice and juicy, wrapper dough is thin
Noodles are lighter than usual, less oily than what I used to have but in a good way.
The buns could be crispier at bottom to my looking but good overall as well.

Excellent cuisine and superb service! Well worth the wait if you are unlucky enough to have to wait behind other fans.

Went for Dim Sum and made reservations for our group of 13. Service was quick and the food was excellent. Tried various types of dumplings, fried rice, green onion pancakes etc and everything was great. Prices are somewhat higher than average but I don’t mind paying more when the food is up to par and it definitely is here. Recommended.

The soup and the spicy wonton dumplings are incredible! Fair price and very large portions. All the dumplings are made from scratch in front of you, I’ve tried almost all of them and they’re all wonderful.

The dumpling tasted great, everything else tasted pretty bland. The chinese tea was good tho. Pretty pricey for so called “ding tai fung”. I thought with that kinda price, you would thought the place would be at least comfortable, but its not. Indonesia has a similar restaurant called Din Tai Fung, which is so good, which made me wonder whether this so called Ding Tai Fung is a rip off of the other one

The service was meh, the serves looked like they were rather somewhere else, and then got mad bcs we gave her small tip. Girl, you were lucky we wanted to give you any tip at all. But then that lady smiled at the other table who gave her tip lesser than what we gave her in the end. Wow, was that bcs they were white? Well, asian can be racist too to other asian, too bad we are not chinese Should have put the money and then walked away. It’s rude, i know, but what happened just now should not happen. If the owner of the restaurant cannot afford to pay decent salary to their employees then don’t open a restaurant at all. Tip shouldn’t be a must thing to do, since it’s a reward for an excellent service.

Definitely won’t come back here. Ever. One time is enough.

Every time I'm in Toronto, I've to pass by this one at least one time before returning to Montreal. Their "siu or tai long bao" are simply the best, so do their fresh made Soya milk.

Food was very good, the service was punctual, and forward facing part of the restaurant was clean.

Shanghai style restaurant, similar to Asian Legend. No msg. Dishes are to our liking. Service is fast, they turn their tables quickly. Dollar per plate is pricey. Two people at $60 for lunch (it depends on how much you want to eat and what you are ordering). It is a little over the top in today's inflationary times. Gave it a 3 star because of cost per plate.

Very delicious Shanghai food. No complaints on the quality of food. Although, it was a bit expensive.

Food is good. But not as good as everyone says it is. The soup dumplings tasted good, but didn’t have that much soup in it. The drunken chicken was a little overdone, ok flavors. The pork soup and fried intestines were good though. Service is ok. Need to try Scarborough area instead.

I'm a little surprised it took me this long to write a review at my favorite Shanghai style Chinese restaurant (in GTA). Been here a million times and their quality compares to other outlets that I have tried in Seattle, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, etc. Can honestly say that the quality is so consistent that I have NEVER had a bad meal. Service is fast friendly and professional. Always fun to watch the chefs making their signature 小籠包. Although they have several variations, after extensive research over many years, I always stick with the original. Never fails to please! Another perfect meal today!

Downgrade from previous 4 rating. Undercooked thick dumplings, under souped and flavoured. Just took it off my favourite list

I came here when I was a teenager which reflects how long Ding Tai Fung has been around at First Markham Place. The fact that the restaurant can still operate after all these years and it does show to some extent their quality, value, variety and consistency.

I agree with other reviews - staff can be hit and miss. Some are much nicer while others don't even smile when they hand you the bill or refill your water jug. The head lady seems nice enough though - she accommodated a reservation even though recently my family visited showing up a good 20 minutes early.

Food - traditional, fresh and tasty. A bit on the salty side for some dishes, such as their soup casserole (with the Napa cabbage, salty pork slice, tofu, Chinese mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, bamboo shoots). Their XLB is excellent with lots of ingredients as advertised, and lots of soup as soup dumplings should be. I notice they don't give ginger slivers with the red vinegar to dip the XLB in, which is not consistent with how the sauce is with other Shanghai restaurants. But overall, a very minor component. Their braised beef spicy noodles is aromatic and rich, and so is their hot and sour soup. Classically executed, and also consistent in their delivery for so many years.

I recommend making a reservation so you're not waiting an hour for a table! A staple in Markham and an old favourite for sure.

Very good Shanghai foods, just a bit pricey.
Recommend for group of 6+ then u can try more dishes.

Unfortunately the shiu mai was raw pork inside, pork dumplings also raw, we brought it to their attention and they gave it back to us saying it was ok.it was pink and not cooked! Most of the dim sum not very tastey.cannot recommend they also charge too much compared to better dim sum restaurant. This place is gao xi

Beautiful nano salt water tank! Service is meh! Food seems pricey for what you get. Better off going into the plazas food court for a better variety and dim sum.

Food is yummy. Must book a table at the weekend. Soup port dumping buns must
Order. Noodles are very good. It is hand-made.
Good that the food is not so salty.
For sure, we will come back.
Thanks, the chefs

I don't want to give this place 5 stars because it falls squarely in the sweet spot of 3.5 stars perfect Chinese cuisine. The food is amazing, the staff is dismissive, and the menu is diverse. The best reason to go here is the dumplings - they are amazing, if a little expensive.

Thé aftermath!
Not sure who’s the first Din Tai Fung but for sure this Markham location has the best Xiao lam boa and dumpling’s

The food quality has clearly gone downhill. This time, the food was not up to par since it was lukewarm and had no taste whatsoever. Even food courts are actually better. It was probably one of the worst xiao long bao (most were broken) and the Shanghainese noodles I've tried. The service is nonexistent and the waitress was far from happy to stay there. The only redeeming quality is the clean place.

I can’t believe this cost me $25.05 from Ubereats. Only few steaks and lots of onions. I could afford $25 but definitely not expected this quality and quantity! This is really disappointed.
