I put off doing this test for quite some time after purchasing it, partly due to the hesitation in collecting the samples from my pup, partly because I figured it would be somewhat painful to read and interpret the results. It turns out both concerns were unfounded. Sample collection was relatively easy, and the results are in a very informative format. But the best part was the speedy turnaround. I had results in less than 10 days. If you are like me and have a mixed breed and wonder exactly what the mix is, get this test!

The actual site was an issue. I had difficulty trying to activate my kit.

We adopted our dog with no information (he had no chip) we had our ideas of what he was made of so I was glad there was an affordable way to actually tell us his breed. We also paid the extra to find out his age. Which was off by 2 years from guessing based on his teeth. So thankful that we know have answers!

Got the test for my birthday as I wanted to find out the mix of my new dogs mom. Did the swab, sent it in and waited. After what seemed like a long time I got an email with the results and the app I had downloaded finally updated. My dogs dad was 100% Great Dane so that is 50% & her mom I was told was boxer and Bullmastiff with maybe a few others mixed in over generations. My results listed Great Dane as over 60% and Chesapeake Bay retriever as 10% with no other dogs listed. After looking into chessies and knowing that there isn’t any of that in my dogs mom or dad I emailed in when asked about the results and mentioned that I didn’t think they were real. I already mentioned in the app my dog was Great Dane when setting that up before the results. They offered to do a second test and today (months later) I get email with the same results as the first time in Dec. Don’t waste you time and money! You are better off guessing what type of dog you have or letting a vet guess for you

CANNOT RECOMMEND ANY LESS.
Long story made short, I was gifted a test because my dog has a small percentage of mystery DNA, while the majority of her DNA from mother and father are already KNOWN. The test, which I was very careful with (I have lab and sampling experience), came back for one half of her known DNA and a small percentage of a rare breed you don’t even see generally at the dog park. She does not look like this rare breed AT ALL. As in, literally not possible for her to have that much DNA of this rarer breed. The test didn’t even register her other DIRECT parent’s KNOWN DNA, so I entirely doubt the accuracy of this test at all - especially after reading the other reviews.

Furthermore - I did go to customer service. They were generally unapologetic and said they could use the second set of samples to run another test if I wanted. I said absolutely. No one ever contacted me again after that. No update on results. It’s been 3+ months, they said it should take two weeks.

No, I was never offered to be sent a new test and I have the email chain to prove it. As I stated above, I was offered a retest of the swabs I had already sent and I said yes. Then, never got any update on the retest.

We got a rescue dog. They told us lab x thats all they knew. We all now he is a Mutt best kind to own, Have never owned a purebred. He doesn't look like a lab except the color, so for fun, I said let's see what he is, I said Lab and Shepherd. Another guess was Lab and border collie. I was surprised what he turned out to be, And totally see where he gets his high energy and guarding instincts. I would recommend anyone doing this, It's great fun

We received the DNA test as a gift from my parents. It was so exciting to receive the results. We adopted two sibling puppies from a rescue agency. They were called Chi X in their description, but the foster didn't even think they had chihuahua in them. Sure enough, they did! Turns out they are Parson Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix with Papillon in their ancestry. Such a surprise! The test was simple with clear instructions, the website was easy to use, and the wait time for the results was short and within the time advertised. With the results, DNA My Dog sent information about the breeds and an adorable certificate. We also received a discount on a genetic age test which we bought immediately. We are now excitedly waiting to find out the results of that test! When I sent an inquiry question email about the test to customer service, I received a very quick reply, on the same day (and it was a weekend!). The response was personalized and helpful. Now I wish I had done the DNA and breed test with my previous dog. I highly recommend this company and the peace of mind and joy it brings to you to find out the breed of your beloved dog.

We adopted Maude from the Humane Society. She was picked up as a stray at about 7 months and never claimed. There was absolutely no history on her. I decided to DNA test her as I was sure she had some Greyhound or Whippet in her background. The cost was very reasonable and response time was as they stated. Follow up has been great. Much to our surprise Bull Mastiff was the predominant breed! It was lots of fun reading the results. I highly recommend DNA My Dog.

My dog came from a shelter and knowing his breed makeup helps in training him.a great dog that infuriates me that someone dumped on the street.

Our Minnie was a "Mill Mama" and we were never sure of how old she was. We knew she was a Bichon and we now know she is 100% Bichon. Our vet gave us a guess of 8-9 yrs old. We were absolutely thrilled with the genetic age test showing Minnie was 4.
Minnie is a sweet girl and we want to keep her forever.

I was so excited for the results but it was a huge disappointment and waste of money. The results were very obviously wrong for both my dogs. Don't waste your time or money, I don't think most people get honest results from this company.

Horrible horrible horrible testing. I rescued my boy from a shelter and wanted to see what type of dog he is for training / health purposes and my landlord needed breed verification. My dog came back with what seemed an estimated guess as to breeds who he may be (60-99% boxer and 10-25% German Shepard). Extremely vague results that didn’t reflect my dog at all. My complex didn’t accept the results as they were viewed as faulty, meaning I have to buy a new, accurate test. Customer service was an absolute joke and kept referring to my male dog as a female. If their DNA testing was accurate at all they could at least know what gender my dog is. I am informing anyone and everyone to use a different testing company as this one is a big waste of money and time.

Edit: I decided to try Embark and was beyond satisfied with the breakdown of my dogs DNA! There was no “level” and they gave me exact %s of my dogs breed. It came back stating my dog was part 44.6% American Pitbull Terrier, 15.6% Chow Chow, 6.6% basset Hound, 3.5% German Shepard, and 23.2% super mutt (which they do a further breakdown). There was never any mention of Boxer in this genetic breakdown and clearly saw Chow chow in my dogs DNA. So so happy I decided to do a different DNA testing other than DNA My Dog.

The price was very reasonable and that is why I decided to give it a try. Our little girl is very unique looking and we are always asked what is she! So now we know how to answer that question! The process was quick and easy. Once they received the swabs I got an email letting me know they had them. About 2 weeks later we got the email with the results. The 2 primary breeds were not a big surprise to us but the 2 minor breeds were a big surprise. After reading the information on the various breeds that make up our little girl, the one breed stood out. The information on the sheet made us laugh because the one breed was spot on. Thanks DNA My Dog for helping us to understand our dog better!

After buying my kit i saw so many negative reviews and thought i got bamboozled, so i purposely didnt send a pic of my dog, HOWEVER, they were right on point and so glad i didnt let the FB world deter me.they were quick, customer service was great and I am beyond pleased with my results.and its great knowing a little more about my rescue princess

All the staff at DNA My Dog have been amazing at keeping me updated on the process since I ordered the DNA My Dog Canine DNA Testing Kit online. It was such a simple and user friendly online purchasing experience, followed by a very short shipping period until I got the DNA testing kit. The information to collect the samples and the length of time the whole process takes was very detailed and easy to follow. I really appreciated that I was contacted as soon as the DNA My Dog staff received my pup's sample and started counting the days, I was so excited to find out what breeds were part of my fur baby! The test results came back a week after I received the sample receipt confirmation! SO fast! And boy, was I surprised at the results! I had always pegged my Coco to be a lab mix and it turns out she is nothing of the sort! She is a Cocker Spaniel (Level 2), Coton de Tulear (Level 2) and Alaskan Malamute (Level 4) mix! I wish every company was like this one to work with! I bought this kit for my son's dog but he made a mistake when sending it in, making it impossible to get his dogs test results. My dog is a rescue and her papers mentioned that she is a Chihuahua and I had a strong feeling she was mixed. After receiving the test back from DNA My Dog, I found out she had traces of pug (which I suspected) and Llaso Apso. Very interesting! The whole process was a good experience and communication with email when I needed updates or changes was wonderful.

I was trying to see if my dog was 100% english bulldog or had American Bulldog Mix and the results gave me no answer and said he could be either. However he is an S class 100% bulldog. So basically the test was misleading. You should be clear on the site to let customers know you can't specifically tell the difference. These are two completely different dogs.

Waste of money. They said my dog was an American Staffordshire Terrier & Beagle mix… She’s a Shepard Saluki mix from Kuwait. Their data base of dogs is actually quite small and I wish I would have known that before spending the money. Unless you want to know if your golden retriever is a purebred or not, I suggest going somewhere else if you want to know what your mutt mix really is. See for yourself. My dog is not at all what they said she is, yet they stand by their claim because it’s “99%” accurate. What a joke.

I have a beautiful rescue. I was told she was an airedale mix. I was doubtful as I’ve had airedales my whole life. I knew she had some poodle and possibly some terrier. She’s almost 50 lbs with the body of a pointer and terrier face.
The test came back 60% poodle and 40% shih tzu. No. Absolutely not. I’ve seen shihpoos and she looks absolutely nothing like them.

Received product very quickly, easy to do with easy instructions and should only take two - three.weeks to get results. Excited to finally see what Coco is allergic to! We want Coco to live a happy and healthy life. Knowing what she is allergic to should help with that.

Hmmmm. We were told our dog Trixie Pickles is a level 2 schnauzer. I just don’t see it. Even Trixie is suspicious!

I received a dna result of 4 different miniature dog breeds. (Bull terrier, bishon frise, cairn terrier, miniature pinscher) My dog is now 5 months old and weighs 56 pounds, told to be a mastiff mix. Don't waste your money on this. Awaiting a response for in hopes for a refund.

I had been looking into dog DNA companies because I really wanted to know what mixes were in our sweet rescue. We were sure about husky & shepherd but knew she had more. When the rescue partnered with DNA My Dog, I looked into them, as the rescue would get a donation back from each test. That is a win-win for me! Their prices are great, and Canadian, they were quick at sending out the test, it was easy to do, and the results were less than 2 weeks coming back to us.
There were definitely surprise breeds mixed in her profile, but also confirmation of Siberian Husky and German Shepherd. I can see the Great Pyrenees in her, and the other two breeds, Boxer & Rottweiler, I can see a little in her personality, but are definitely a little further back in her breeding.
I would highly recommend this company, and if they have partnered with your rescue, reach out to them as there may be a little donation kick back for the rescue.

This was a great experience! We decided to do this test on our dog Kahlua. The breeder had told us she was an Australian Shepherd x Border Collie. As she got older we had our suspicions. Turns out she had no Australian Shepherd in her! Mostly Labrador! This was simple and easy testing from the beginning to end. Highly recommend.

We adopted a rescue dog that we were told was a collie x, our vet didnt feel he had any collie in him and gave us his suggestions. Breed tests came in yesterday and no collie in him, our vet did get two breeds correct, but not the two main breeds.
We have used dna my dog in the past and have always been surprised by the results, even having one retested.
We trust their results and are happy with their customer service.
We feel this test is well worth the money, and would totally recommend getting this test done.
You may be surprised at the results of your dog breeds. Jett is a Sheppard/boxer as main breed, then American Stafford with a flat haired retriever.

Super great experience from start to finish. We recently got a puppy and we were told she was a beagal bull dog mix and as time went on my little miss Lucy wasnt getting much bigger thought for sure she was a different breed. Found a local Canadian company, we ordered and within less than 3 weeks from ordering got results to find out she was actually Beagal Chihuahua mix with no bull dog in her lol loved learning more about her breeds. Great follow up along the way definitely would recommend this company!

Results were totally inaccurate. Did 3 different companies, the other two came back identical, this one was nothing like them. My dog is CLEARLY a Labrador retriever mix and (pretty easy to spot lab) and has a very basset hound short legs and Paws. They said zero % lab or basset. The other company's came back with both basset and lab without needing a picture. Waste of money and a scam. Really sad to be taken advantage of.

Our Finn was a rescue and we were told that the Mom was a Pitbull/Lab mix. I thought it would be fun to DNA test him and it was! Two weeks later we get the results back. Bulldog, Greyhound, Boston, Aussi Cattle Dog! The Greyhound explains his really long legs! I would highly recommend DNA My Dog!

Our experience with myDNA was excellent! Our vet was skeptical that we had a full breed german shepherd dog due to some of his facial features that aren't common to that particular breed. But, myDNA confirmed that our sweet puppy was 100% gsd and the results came back quicker than we expected! We learned that gsd come in a variety colours and facial features are not cookie cutter for this particular breed. We would recommend myDNA to our family and friends. They have exceptional customer service and provided a certificate with our sweet puppies picture on it. Thank you myDNA!

We bought our dog on kijiji as a poodle, but he looked like he had something else in him. So we opted for a DNA test, choosing DNA  my dog. After receiving a kit, it took less then two weeks to get results, which proved that our dog is a poodle, but also had in there terrier DNA, which explained a lot in his personality. Don't waste your time and money. The bad reviews are very accurate. They send fake results and wont send a second test to prove they are correct results.

You do not send 2nd tests. Our close friends asked for a retest and you refused. So they went elsewhere and purchased another test and got the true results. You people are frauds.

My family had a fantastic experience testing our pup with DNA My Dog from start to finish. We were told our dog was a Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever cross, however as our puppy got older, we had suspicions that was not accurate. We chose DNA My Dog because it was budget friendly. They received our sample fairly quickly (considering covid delays) and our results were available within the two week turn around time. We were not required to submit a photo, so we did not. The results we received were positively surprising! Our dog was primarily Great Pyrenees, however there was no golden retriever. There was however other breeds (such as Akita, Husky, Australian Cattle Dog and Samoyed) that were in his DNA that we did not expect to be there. However, after researching more about these breeds, they made complete sense! We are really happy that we chose this company to test our beloved pup. It was so much fun learning more about our dog. We will definitely be using them again in the future!

It's impossible to know what breeds might be combined in most shelter dogs. At Johnson's Sanctuary for Senior Dogs, we think it's important to find out all you can about a dog - breed, age, potential health risks. We use DNA My Dog to test all our pups. I asked a question online, and was very surprised and pleased to receive a personalized response from the company CEO Mindy Tenenbaum, who had very useful answers for me, including information about the reduced rate available to qualifying rescue organizations. This fascinating science is really incredibly useful, and the customer service I've received has been nothing less than outstanding. I'm excited and amazed by the results.

Waste of money. States my dog is 66-99% beagle and he looks nothing like a beagle. Nothing! They either are a rip off or got my dogs tests mixed up with someone else.

Just received the results for my pup. I didn't send a picture of him and the result was spot on. Part Labrador retriever and part Newfoundland.
Many complaints on here were from people who sent a picture and felt the dogs breed wasn't correct and that this company only went by the picture. I believe this to be incorrect as I didn't send a picture and I followed the instructions.

I would highly recommend this company! They keep you updated thru emails (when samples received, results obtained). And when you get the results, they give you a certificate, along with details of all breeds of your dog. Such a fun thing to do with your canine companion! Would definitely use them again!

Don't waste your time this is a scam to make money. Our very large dog cam back as a basset hound. There is no way he is part basset hound. They also have stopped reply to emails and wont stand by their product. You're better off not wasting your money with this fraudulent company. See actual results below.

Lots of fun to find out what make breeds make up your dog. We thought our rescue, Waub was a Lab and Boxer. Turns out he is a mixture of German Shorthaired Pointer, Weimaraner and Golden Retriever. He could have been a spy. I expect the CIA to call any day and ask for their dog back.

We got Sage in January from a family friend who told us she was King Shepard, which I thought was Alaskan Malamute and German Shepard. However, her size didn’t match up with others in that breed. We decided to get her tested just to see what her breeds were. Sage turned out to be 100% German Shepard. The breed doesn’t change the fact that we loved her no matter what she was but we wanted to know of any health concerns and allergies. We want to thank DNA my Dog for the test results and speedy service even during Covid. Stay safe everyone!

Okay, I have to admit that I did not believe in these dog DNA tests! But, I am now a convert! The test is so easy to do with simple instructions and is not bothersome to the dog. And, the results come back quite quickly… of course not fast enough when you’re anxious about finding out what the heck your dog is! I’d received your DNA kit for my Chow mix as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. I was rather skeptical that I’d get accurate results. To my surprise, the results turned out to be extremely accurate. So, I recently ordered a kit for my year and a half old female Chow mix. She was said to be a purebred when I adopted her at 9 weeks of age, but it was obvious very quickly that she was not a purebred. (I actually have a female, pure Chow Chow, so know the difference!) I thought she might have some type of Collie or Shepherd in her due to her appearance and longer legs. I just received the test results this past week, and have to admit I was shocked to find out she is about 75% Chow and 25% Shar-Pei! I read the breed descriptions and also did further research on both breeds, and definitely think this test was accurate. It has explained some of the traits she’s shown that are more specific to Shar-Peis, although both Chow Chows and Shar-Peis are Chinese breeds with a lot of similar characteristics. And, the mix with Shar-Pei explains a lot! I thank you for helping to clarify what my little girl is! What a huge surprise. She’s definitely a keeper!
