Had a lovely experience, food was great and the staff were friendly. We were disappointed we didn’t get to hear the specials since we would’ve preferred the lasagna, (we heard another table getting told) but what we ordered was amazing.
I brought a friend to celebrate his birthday with his wife and we were not disappointed. Their foods are delicious. I would highly recommend this place and if you are looking for an Italian cuisine this is the place.
My visit to Donatello’s in Toronto was, unfortunately, a memorably disappointing experience. From logistical lapses to service that soured the evening, it’s difficult to find any silver lining in the time spent at this establishment.
To ensure a seamless dining experience, I made a reservation weeks in advance. To further cement this, I called a day ahead to confirm. Imagine my dismay upon arrival, when the welcome I received was not with open menus and a smiling host, but with the chaotic reality of no table ready for us. This set the tone for the entire evening.
The staff’s handling of the situation only further exacerbated our discomfort. Rather than acknowledging the oversight with professionalism and courtesy, we were met with a wall of indifference. We were left in limbo, seemingly invisible to the very people meant to be our guides to a pleasant dining experience. The bustle of a busy restaurant is no excuse for neglecting guests, especially those who’ve made every effort to follow protocol for a guaranteed table. Invisible to staff, my husband and I were forced to wait over 30 mins outside without any follow-ups or bread for us while we sat.
As we waited, an air of tension hovered over us, thickened by overhearing staff members speak poorly of us. To overhear one's self being spoken of negatively, and in error, is both disheartening and infuriating. It is an etiquette one would not expect from a reputed establishment. To note, this was the MANAGER who was speaking poorly to her entire staff, who then overlooked us during our entire experience or would come to the table and ASK us "what did you do? Why is she so mad? ". We were nothing but kind and perhaps a bit confused, my husband and I are not ones to make an ordeal or ever treat anyone with disrespect. As you can imagine, this 'drama' being asked to us while we are trying to make the best of this already poor experience was quite the shock. I have been to Donatellos a dozen of times before so I was willing to wait out their mistake, but never would've anticipated this horrendous display of unprofessionalism.
It’s regrettable to report that my experience at Donatello’s was marred by such a sequence of service failures, a stark contrast to the culinary excellence one would expect from a fine dining restaurant in Toronto.
To future patrons, I would suggest ensuring the establishment is ready to honor their commitments before deciding to spend a special evening there. As for me, it is unlikely I will return or recommend Donatello’s, as the most basic ingredient for a satisfactory dining experience - respect for customers - was sorely missing.
This restaurant is a favorite for delicious Italian food. Each entree is customizable making it great for vegetarians. Every time I've visited the staff have been so welcoming and attentive. I love the variety of spaces they have from the patio out front and the delightful atmosphere inside and the rooftop terrace. Contact the staff if you're interested in reserving their second floor for a birthday party or event.
Came for my husband's birthday and had a great dinner and time. We ran late due to bad traffic and called to let them know and they kept the table for us even though they were so busy. The veal was super tender and delicious, the tiramisu is made in house and incredible and they have a great selection of wine. Restaurant is adorable and perfect for an intimate meal. Tibor our server was the best and sweetest! He was very attentive and friendly! Thank you for helping make hubby’s bday special!:)
Fantastic and quaint restaurant. Food was very flavourful and prepared with fresh ingredients. The hostess was very friendly and was able to get us a table on the upper patio, which overlooks Elm St. I was amazed how descriptive the waiter was with all dishes. Impeccable service. I had the seafood pasta, which was made fresh. My wife had a delicious caramelized salmon. All very reasonably priced. Ask about the daily specials. They have a huge wine list at reasonable prices.
Treated my wife for Mother's Day. The weather was great and we were able to sit outside on the upstairs patio. Our server made excellent suggestions and the kitchen did not disappoint!
My Wife and I had Dinner on Friday Evening on the Patio and it was a wonderful night! The food was delicious, the location was amazing and the service was great. We made a reservation and I am glad we did as the restaurant got busy as the night progressed.
We ordered the tortellini alla borina and the petto di pollo valdostana. I found the tortellini a little rubbery and in need of a lil more sauce. It was a good day for the outside patio which was preferred to the indoor ‘sopranos’ kind of vibe. Overall solid dishes.
Booked a table for a celebration for 18 people with short notice ie: less than a week. We got there when the restaurant opened on a Saturday afternoon. Dealt with Dewan. Everything ran smoothly. We had chosen a fixed price menu and the food was really good. We got a round of champagne when we arrived and there was no time limit on the table. When we had a problem with a meal Dewan took care of fixing it asap. Great service and a few of our friends said they would go back.
Amazing spot! My family has been coming here for over a decade each time we visit Toronto. The service and food is always amazing. They are also always accommodating for allergies, which I am so grateful for.
Restaurant avec une vielle ambiance italienne, plat traditionnel bien fait, bonne portion mais un peu dispendieux en un mot ces une valeur sur pour manger italien.
Food is okay. But it really doesn't matter anymore when the service attitude is bad. Servants are not well trained. The manager has a poker face to start with. Sorry, smiles and kind words are not available here! So decide for yourself!
We really liked the patio and service! The caprese salad was absolutely delicious however the Alfredo pasta didn’t taste authentic. I’ve tried a lot of different Italian restaurant and we felt like it wasn’t the authentic taste for Alfredo pasta.
Excellent and beautiful place but the man Tibor was very rude. His eye contact was very bad. He did not serve properly. But the lady who was standing out-side she was amazing.
I visited last week. The place was good but there was a server I don’t know his name. The hair on his head is long and just a littlebit less hair in his head and screen tone was white. His behavior was too much rude. He did give proper service to the customer. But the food was very delicious. I will visit that place again but make sure for that server will be well behave.
