Good From Far But Far From Good

Our custom ordered door arrived with chips and touch up paint.
The opening for the door is not even square, how hard is it to
make four 90 degree angles so the door seals tightly?
The bottom door sweep barely touches the sill allowing major airflow.
"Nothing Is Left To Chance, When Your New Door Arrives It Will Be Perfect In Every Way"
Our door arrived with multiple defects, How did this unit leave your factory in this condition?
Why is Dorplex ignoring us and these issues?
We are extremely disappointed and frustrated and do not recommend this company at all!
This unit was ordered April 2022, installed August 2022 and nothing has been done to repair or replace.

I purchased 2 sets of doors from Dorplex Industries LTD through their local seller in Thunder Bay, Tilka DKI Construction. I purchased a set of doors for the front entrance and a set of french doors for my rear patio. Both doors were installed by professionals who install doors on a daily basis, following all proper methods and procedures as per Tilka.

I will begin this review with the issues with the rear french doors.
The rear doors were installed and when I went to install the door handle and locking mechanism, I noticed that no lock and handle set would be able to be installed due to the pre drilled backset of the holes. Rather than the standard backset of 2 3/8 or 2 3/4, this door was approximately drilled out to the backset of 2 inches. I contacted Tilka and they indicated that I could get a custom handle which would range from $200-$300 more than the $150 lock set I had originally purchased. Of course, that was not alright with me as a customer and I stated that I would only accept to have a proper door set sent to me to correct the issue. Approximately 1 month later I received a new door set and again it was installed by professionals which were paid by me (the issue had left me with an unusable and insecure entrance to my residence for that period of time). I noticed upon receiving the door that the screen did not fit the opening and left gaps of 1/2 inch in some spots as well as the fact that the frame was clearly bent. This issue was reported to Tilka within the week and I was told it would be taken care of by Dorplex.

During the warmer months (Northern Ontario) I didn’t notice much of an issue with the operating door, other than I had to pull harder than average to have the latch mechanism catch in order to have a proper seal. At the time I didn't think much of it.until it became winter. It was quickly noticeable that in fact the door was not completely sealing as when I would go to open the door, there was a large build-up of condensation which then froze and created ice on the top corner of the door frame outside. Initially I had thought maybe there was an install issue so I took all the measurements of the doors and gaps which indicated that the door was installed plumb and square. All of the reveals/gaps were symmetrical and even. I then placed a level (straight edge) on the door which revealed the issue, which was that the door had a large bow in it. Again I contacted Tilka who send out Paul (Co-Owner) who did the same as I did — he pulled measurements and placed a straight edge on the door. Paul himself stated that there was no apparent installation issues and that there was indeed a bow in the door, but that it shouldn't be causing the issues at hand and then proceeded to state he would let Dorplex know about the bow in the door and the need for a correct fitting/undamaged screen.

Fast forward to the winter of 2022 and I had still not received any contact from Dorplex or Tilka and nothing has been remedied, but the issues have gotten worse.
Now from the leak in the top corner of the door seal, the condensation is dripping down the seal and landing on the door sill. When the temperatures dropped in the cold evenings, the bottom of the door sweep would freeze to the sill and I would be effectively locked inside my house. This was IMMEDIATELY advised to Tilka as there were numerous times in which my family was locked inside my house due to the ice on the door. Through many contacts with Tilka (Paul) and Dorplex, I have yet to have a solution provided or even parts to replace the damaged sweep (as I had to use a heat gun on the door at least 10 times on different days). This was a serious safety concern (you will see why further in the review) as if there was an emergency in the house, my family would have no way to escape safely.

Followup: So the door got delivered and it fit. Owner of Exterior Transformations came to install. I agreed to help him (masked) as this install was being done at his expense and at no charge. Everything went fine except the 24 window frame screws were missing. Mike is trying to get the screws. He really does not want to make a 270 km round trip to install them so either Dorplex needs to come or I have to DIY them. Hope it doesn't rain! More updates soon.

Followup: Dorplex has offered to replace the window frames and slab. This totally changes my opinion. Great warranty if it works. Expect delivery in February and installer has suggested March when it is warmer. I will update again in March.

We initially had great complements on the door. Now 4 years later the door is peeling around the window lite frames. Shows white against a solid black door, We contacted the supplier to contact Dorplex as required by the Dorplex warranty in March. There have been repeated reminders to the supplier and the supplier's repeated attempts to have the door looked at. Dorplex provided two bottles of touch up paint. The frames are now peeling worse than when the problem was originally raised. As far as I am concerned Dorplex does not honour their warranty. To me the peeling is obviously a flaw in how the frames were painted. No amount of touch up is going to make these doors look right. It is now November my warranty expires in June. Dorplex was asked again by the supplier to look at the door before the warranty expires. So far nothing.

Don't expect longevity from Dorplex - our metal-skinned exterior door rotted out after a decade, and it seems like a design issue.
(see photos)
If you just need a quick fix, flip the house, and make it someone else's problem, these guys are cheaper, but the quality isn't there, and their newest doors I have seen for sale in the last month, have not improved on the design.
Warranty: expired last year, but this obviously doesn't get to this point over night.
Dorplex Response: initially empathetic, but then just sent a quote for a new repalcement at full price.

We did NOT expect a free door, and never asked for one - we are realistic.
All we asked for, was a little reasonable help. Meet us part way.
Zero concession on their part.

The design flaw - seems to stem from the wrap around bottom trim they are still using today, while other manufacturers have gone with better designs, or injection moulded inserts.

Dorplex will not discuss with us, whether the bottom trim was not bonded correctly at the factory originally, or, whether UV exposure over time caused it to shrink and pull away from the door, creating a funnel to collect all water running down the door - instead of shedding it.
The door faces the south, onto a deck, but does take occasional driving rain/snow, like any door might.and so we can now see how it rotted.

These guys are in the EXTERIOR DOOR business, or claim to be.
UV and moisture, have existed for several million years.

Dorplex asked why we didn't call sooner.yeah, because we inspect each of our doors for rot on a regular basis. </sarcasm>
It wasn't until the rear door alarm wouldn't set for us in August, that we realized something was wrong - the wood was mushy.
(see photo, which includes the folded piece of masking tape we had to add to get it to set)

There is no repair for this, and the Dorplex answer of full price with no communications or explanation, isn't a fix either.

Buyers, beware.

2020 12 18 - Update
After several attempts to speak with Dorplex, I was informed by Rajita Patel of Dorplex today, that I should not have expected this door to last past 10 years. She also compared it to purchasing a stove with a 5 year warranty, and calling the stove company in year six, expecting free parts.

The gaul.
If you would like to draw a parellel, let's be accurate.
This is like purchasing a stove with a 5 year warranty, and in year six, having every single burner stop working, the oven melt down, and the front door fall off - all at the same time.

This door, is no longer serving it's primary function.

And, see additional photo of the window frame, where it appears that more of their materials have shrunk in the south-facing UV, which likely was also letting water into the doorframe.

Again, cheap door, good for quick fix. Don't expect more.

Spoke to a head technical expert at Dorplex, who cited "southern ontario climate", and suggested that I was lucky it lasted that long.
Nothing more to be done, than to purchase a new door from them.
Yeah, right.

PS: has anyone else noticed, that all of their "positive" reviews, are from people who seem to have entered a contest, or who only had one line of text to offer.as though they perhaps worked for some marketing company whose job it was, to pump up the star rating for Dorplex.
As an industry professional in this area, I know that's how the game is played, for marketing purposes, but I have honestly never seen it done this blatantly.
Wish I had done more homework about Dorplex 10 years ago.

Wish we had taken a before photo to show the incredible transformation. We are delighted with our new Dorplex doors and grateful for the excellent service and sales support we received. Great company! We replaced our front entrance door, side door to our garage and back patio sliding doors all at the same time. Our home looks so much better, is safer and no more drafts on cold days. Thank you to all the staff at Dorplex!

I have a new door, poorly manufactured - no quality control. They are fixing the door so I will be able to lock it - re drilling holes in the frame. They tell me it will be a better, more secure door - i see i have a second hand door with 4 holes in the frame that has taken 4 weeks to resolve at a new door price!

I am a door installer for over 28 years. I bought a door from a reseller in the niagura region. Dorplex cut a mail slot in the door as per my clients request. First time they sent a bronze mail slot not matching the black glass, handle or the door sill. After having me send it back before sending the right one I went back to install it and the hole was to small. After connecting with the supplier I was told Dorplex will not do anything. Its not there problem and fix it myself

Amazing-looking doors on their web-site, as well as their Facebook page. Hope I manage to get one for my home one day.

Don't order from this company. We ordered glass through Home Depot on December. Estimated arrival was January 2nd. Now they've pushed it to February 19th. 1.5 months later than we were told to expect it. Find someone else.

WARRANTY ISSUES do NOT get addressed timely! 10 + months. Front door was not properly installed, the door is warped, coming apart and warranty is taking 9 plus months to not fully repair the issue. Safety issue
04/19 Contacted Victor at First Class Windows and Doors whom I purchased the door from in regards to glass separating from the door on the inside and the outside. Came & assessed was told a new piece needed to be ordered & Dorplex would be in contact with me. No word from with of them.
27/08/19 called Victor was told the part was in and should hear from Dorplex. Nothing.
11/09/19 - Called Victor again was told Dorplex will be in contact.
24/09/19 email stating that Dorplex came WITHOUT my knowledge or permission and assessed the door from the outside & will come cut the plastic and apply silicone not addressing the issue of the glass separating on the inside of both the bottom & top of glass.
07/10/19 - was told by Jerry at Dorplex that I don't need to be home could possibly come Oct 10 or 11th when i was out of province and was told i don't need to be home. Again not addressing the inside glass separating from door. I will not allow any work to be done to my home while out of province nor is that appropriate practice. Was told I would have to wait another 3 weeks. I had another door company come and assess the situation and ask for a second opinion. The door itself is actually warped and was not installed properly. There is a 1cm gap between the door and the frame and the door was not hung with the proper standard screws for a front door. Was told 1 kick to the door and it would come crashing in the lock is barely in the door because the door is not fit in the frame right, causing a safety issue. The door is installed on a angle which therefore lets air through the top of the door and the lining has shrunk which now has more gaps between the door and frame and can see light through. Over the past year the glass has almost completely separated from the door and have pictures from April compared to now and there is a significant difference. When contacted Victor was told it is not his problem it is the warranty and he can't control how long it takes, I feel 6 months is a little long for having a piece needing to be ordered and installed to only coming over and cutting the access off and applying silicone and not addressing the inside issue. I asked for a refund and was told "that's not happening". BBB complaint filed Oct 16/19, received email from Jerry stating that they would now agree to fix the door properly but would only give me a date that he as aware that I was out of country. Jan 7 received email stating " I will arrange for our service department to do the work in the next few weeks". We are over 10 months that the service issue was put in place with no date of resolution. Customer service was contacted twice with no response. Buyer beware. Jan 14 2020 still waiting for a response from Dorplex with a service date. Cold air is actively blowing out of the frame and is now almost completely separated. BUYER BEWARE!

Bad place to work. Work hard for low pay. You are kept for busy season, then they tell you that don”t need you anymore.

The door itself is very nice. The problem I have is the warranty exclusion. My frame around the door lite separated due to the very cold temps we have been seeing. The door is 4 yrs old and made from fiberglass. I was told that since I applied paint to the door, my entire warranty is void! Yeah because the paint was the reason the frame separated. And how does paint affect a fiberglass door.
I bought the door from Doorplex because of the great warranty. Be aware when you purchase from them, read and have all the warranty exclusions explained in great detail. The clause they use for the paint voiding the warranty was "This warranty will be deemed null and void if the owner/purchaser modifies or otherwise alters the product in any way. " So apparently applying paint to a fiberglass door is altering it. Laughable at best, typical company trying to get out of warranty claim. I won't be recommending Doorplex to anyone. Thanks for the overpriced unwarranted door system. Didn't even make it past the 5 yr point without issues.

Dorplex has ended their "4 day" #dreamdoor contest after only 2.5 days. Their contest requirements were a Facebook follow, friend tag, post share, Instagram follow and review on their Goggle business page. Many of which are against Facebook policy. The winner Pnina Lutwak, whose qualifications can not be verified because none of her social media is available to the public was conveniently the only finalist from Toronto. Her Instagram account is private with zero activity and is only following 1 account? After 3 inquires to Dorplex about her Instagram follow they state "we have verified her follow on Instagram, however we are under no contractual obligation to participants to provide proof of qualification". She is also the Sr. Account Manager @ TPS Promotions & Incentives. Her finalist picture was posted at the top of their page for the duration of the contest and receiving random likes from followers who thought they could "win her door" so the remaining 3 finalists were clearly at a disadvantage. There are quite a few votes from the United States, many of them only have a first and middle name. She managed to receive 343 likes with only 13 shares. This is both impressive and questionable to say the least. When I brought this up to Dorplex on Friday they "investigated" and found nothing "except three names of people associated with the cheating circle" I don't know the three names they are referring as I didn't provide them with any names. There is an error in their instructions for the final round email that I received from them on Sunday December 16th which was never corrected. It stated that the contest would run for 4 days. Starting Thursday December 20th at 12: 00 PM and run until 12: 00 AM EST on December 23st. I interrupted this as a 4 days contest ending December 23rd at midnight. I was only made aware of their error once they posted the contest was closed today on their Facebook page. They have since acknowledged their mistake and in turn have offered me a $250 Dorplex store credit to be used towards a new entry door or repair. I have declined. I acknowledge that I entered this contest of my own free will and could have ceased at anytime. I acknowledge that companies do not have to offer contests or freebies but that when they do they should stand behind their mistakes. My submission & picture took me a few hours not to mention the countless hours of messaging friends for likes & shared. I am embarrassed about both the huge inconvenience and impact this has had on my friends.

Their products are so well built and of such a high quality that you know they will last for a lifetime. Excellent service and amazing customer service
12 January 2019 8:45
Dorplex really wowed me with the install and quality of my door. I had a specific vision in mind for my door and they went above and beyond to make sure that everything that I was asking for would work with my entryway. I usually don't write review for any product, but I have to say that the team at Dorplex treated me like a million dollar customer. I would highly recommend this company.
11 January 2019 11:40
I chose a dorplex front door because of the quality and attention to detail and I’m very happy I did. Would definitely choose dorplex again.
08 January 2019 7:40
The customer service at Dorplex is amazing. I basically kept the customer service rep on the phone for half an hour (I've never bought a door before and this is my first home). She answered all of my questions and explained all of the terms I didn't know and gave me a list of recommended distributors in my area.
08 January 2019 4:18
