WARNING! DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE! Michael Mogavero has numerous complaints against him.
Mogavero performed an operation on my senior cat that he later informed me was unnecessary. It was clearly a cash grab for him. Immediately after, my cats health rapidly declined.
Mogavero is absolutely rude, condescending and aggressive. He is money hungry and dishonest. I am disgusted with how he treated me and my family. And his tone with me was terribly sexist and it was awful dealing with him.
WHY WOULD WE PUT OUR BELOVED 17 YEAR OLD CATS LIFE AT RISK FOR A COSMETIC PROCEDURE? !?
It was a cash grab.
It is the vets job to inform people about the risks associated. I believe this vet is 100% responsible for my cats rapid decline and death.

When I got Rowan, in January he seemed ok, a few days later after partaking of Chili's Fancy feast he had diahrea that wouldn't stop. I made an appointment here and they got me in right away and I thought that the vet was good, gave him meds and a shot in the bum.but the receptionist was awesome.

Really impressed with the staff and service. I brought my three month old kitten Shadow in after she stopped eating a couple days prior, she was given a check up and looked over, I was offered a special food that would help her, as well as some medication.

After nibbling on the food for a few days she started eating regularly and I’m so happy to have my kitten back happy and healthy again.

Dr. Ahn and her Downtown Animal Hospital team are some of the kindest and most patient individuals we have ever visited. We have an extremely difficult dog who is anything but easy to get along with when he’s brought to a vet clinic, however the team here have always given it their all to get each appointment done. Highly recommend this location for their professionalism, care and kindness. Will always bring pets to this location in the future as well. Thank you for always going above and beyond, and for everything you do.

I really love Dr Fernandez. She treats my dog Ruby with a lot of attention and care. I even got a follow up call to check in about some anxiety she was experiencing. I have had to wait a while for the vet to come in to the room which is the only reason for 4 stars.

Took my puppy there for his first shots very nice place the vet was very nice and knowledgeable and staff are great highly recommended.

Very nice people, a bit pricey, and feel they jump to the conclusion of putting the cat to sleep a bit fast.which we denied.

Nevertheless, generally it is: a good place.

Caring group of people who were gentle in taking care of Thomas the cat. And again in his passing. Thank you for having a heart in my time of sorrow.

Love this vet's office. They were able to find the problem with my kitty very quickly and treat it fast. They are very kind and were able to explain things to me very clearly. I have anxiety especially around my animals' care and being able to reach them via email and always get an answer in a reasonable time has been a huge help. I would recommend them to anyone in the Hamilton area and will be bringing my animals here as long as I live here.:)

The staff at the front desk in particular have always been so kind and welcoming. They supported me in the grief of losing a pet so we'll that I decided to return with my new pet - and they shared in that joy also. It's been a more positive experience than I've had at several other vets.

Dr. Ahn is attentive and kind. She listens to concerns, handles our pup well, and is very reassuring. I'm glad that we gave Downtown Animal Hospital a chance after reading some older reviews about a doctor who's no longer at the clinic - we hope that our dog is a patient for years!

Lovely staff, and amazing prices! I was pleasantly surprised today when I went to get my cats medicine…at the cat clinic it cost me $110 all in, here it was $57! Highly recommend this place in all aspects!

Dr Ahn and her team are amazing. When our dog swallowed a metal piping tip we were very concerned. We brought Chloe in and Dr Ahn calmed our fears and within a short amount of time (and some induced vomiting) everything was good again

My partner and I have just recently moved to Hamilton, and we have been looking for a good Veterinarian close by. Although I have spoken to a lot of good vets in the area, I was intrigued by Downtown Animal Hospital after speaking with the staff. I originally called Downtown Animal Hospital only in order to get my cats prescription diet as they were around the corner. I spoke to Aileen and was immediately impressed with the service and knowledge she presented. I booked an appointment for an on going issue that my cat has been dealing with for awhile, but common treatment options haven’t been an option for him. Dr. Ahn was amazing with my Max, listened to his history, and presented a different option that has been working so well so far! She is a very intuitive veterinarian with obviously a lot of experience and knowledge. Highly recommend, and I am so happy I found a Vet so close to me who is so amazing!

After a few bad experiences at a previous vet clinic I was very cautious trying to find a vet. My friend recommended this vet clinic to me, informing me that Dr. Ahn was nothing but knowledgeable and caring. The clinic was amazing seeing her right away and giving the care she needed.

Ive been bringing my animals here for 6 years. Their passion for pets is obvious, and they feel more like family friends than a business.

I'm so happy to find Dr Ann and appreciate her professional skills. Dr Ann is the charm and her staff are amazing. They helped my poor Jackson when he had a bad stomach flu They are so caring and I strongly recommend this clinic. This is my go to vet from now on.

Had an emergency with my dog. They were compassionate and reasonable in dealing with them. I am now switching to this vet.

Downtown Animal Hospital are in my opinion one of the best Hospital. The staff are friendly and very caring. We take our dog and cats there. They always take very good care of them. As long as they are there we will continue to take our animals there.

Best service and care, and fair prices. They put the utmost care into dealing with beloved late cat, Six, they made me feel like family while I was saying my goodbyes to a precious family member.

Wow Dr Ahn and staff knocked the care for our dog out of the ball park. Please read the reviews over star ratings. This is a new VET that took over an old business. We were needing emergency Surgery. This clinic was recommended. I would have never gone with a 4.1 star rating. This reflects being brought down by years of poor reviews. I have never experienced this attention of care, even as a human! Approximately 1.5 days after the procedure our dog was back to her normal self.us having to tell our dog to take it easy. The follow up, attention to detail, post care. Friendliness by staff.and finally the bill was extremely pleasant.to pay. The most shocking part was being able to stay with my dog in the exam room over. Being in my car in the parking lot. THANK YOU

Had the best service today all the staff were so friendly and approachable! My kittens first vet appointment went well thanks to Dr. Ahn and the other vet tech (I didn’t get her name I’m so sorry) I am looking forward to coming back!

I have been going to this Veterinarian Clinic since 2010. Today I had an appointment @11 a.m. And due to the cab company running short staffed due to a holiday I arrived about ten minutes late. This was a first! I had called ahead and told the Dr. I would be delayed that I had called at 10: 30 a.m. And was still waiting. A half hour advance notice to the cab company should have made me early for this appointment, except for the Muslim holiday which I was not aware would impact my taxi cab.

After I arrived Dr. Mogavero advised me he had just tested positive for COVID. He had meant to call but didn’t. Just lovely! Is that even legal to come to work infected? I intend to report this to the Colleges of Veterinarian Medicine.

People in his profession should conduct themselves better. And people who have subsidized training and assistants really owe a debt to the Canadian people and public. I was thoroughly disgusted with his behaviour. I won’t be going to a subsidized cheat to be disciplined ever.

I called another cab and waited for forty minutes to return home. I will never be going back to his clinic despite never being late before and always paying his very high prices.

Clinic has been great for my ferrets, no over charging like most, no over testing. To the point and straight forward, and the staff is so kind

Fabulous staff and great veterinarian. Pleased to announce that Downtown Animal Hospital is under new ownership. Dr. J. Ahn is now the full time Vet and owner. The transition has been very smooth and I put the same trust in Dr. Ahn as I did the previous vet, and shall continue to expect excellent treatment and compassion for my pets. Reception is wonderful and go above and beyond every day! Our pets are our family and deserve the very best.

The Doctor, was extremely rude and unprofessional, trying to diagnose my girl from 5 feed away. I will never recomend this place to anyone.
It was just one horrible experience.

I used to like it here until during covid I found the normal vet I used to go see was no longer at this location. I had to drop my dog off with this new veterinarian only to find out that they muzzled her and had her tied to the table for no reason! She was so scared when I took her there again before finding out what happened, she started running away and shook the whole time. (She's only 8 pounds, tiny thing) I always was able to go in with her for the appointments but this new vet refused until I said I'm going somewhere else, that's when I saw the changes. Receptionist is amazing and is the one that allowed me to go in with her as always.

Incredibly thorough examination.
The doctor Dr. Mogavero who examined my Guinea pig Yuri (who was not moving when we woke up on the morning) was very clear and took the time to ask us questions to ensure he gave an accurate diagnosis and answer all the questions we had. He did handle a squeeze Yuri but I felt comfortable that he wasn’t causing any harm, he needed to confirm his health. He went and took some time to referenced his material to ensure he was not giving me incorrect information. He asked all about his health from activity to diet to ensure he was getting the correct vitamins. He diagnosed my pet with Muscle Dystrophy and clearly explained how he came to his diagnosis. (In very layman's terms he couldn’t feel his main leg artery which effects circulation effecting muscle mobility.) I profusely asked if I had done anything to cause this or anything I could have done to prevent this and the doctor was very comforting that no this is likely genetic due to Yuri having the correct amounts of Vitamin E in his diet. He was honest and clear about the unfortunate upcoming events informing us he had no mobility in his hind legs and to expect him to continue deteriorate quickly, but was in no rush to tell us to euthanize him as at the time he was still eating, drinking, coherent and able to get to food and water.

As we were leaving the doctor even asked us to return quickly to the room to double check for inflation in just joints to ensure there was not injury.

The staff were all extremely kind as I called at 8am and had to work at 10am they got us in right away so I wasn’t late for work. They all loved Yuri and were so interested in him though they clearly didn’t want to bother us during this unfortunate visit. Very kind and compassionate team.
We lost our boy within 2 days as he stopped eating and his immobility spread to his front legs and neck.
Due to Easter Weekend we had to take him to an emergency vet and say goodbye.

On February 7th/22 Dr. M. Mogavero and staff were so very kind to stay past their working hours to help with an emergency. No other clinic would help us with our cat who suffered a blood clot which left him in severe pain and paralyzed. Our poor Ninja was crying desperately in pain and our family was greatly distressed. Living in the west end of Hamilton, we were told to pack him up and "maybe" someone would take him in Mississauga or Niagara Falls. When I called Downtown Animal Hospital, Dr. Mogavero could easily tell how upset we were. I explained the symptoms and the Dr.immediately told us to bring our little guy right away. We knew the outcome was not going to be good. Dr. Mogavero was kind and sensitive to our situation. Sadly, our Ninja did not make it back home with us, but with the kind hearted staff of Downtown Animal Hospital, our furry companion suffered no longer. Thank you so very much for you kindness and understanding. You and your staff made an unbearable time bearable.

A couple of days ago, I took my daughter's gerbil in as there are very few vets that will treat pocket pets. Let me first say that the receptionist and technician that I met were lovely. Very friendly and courteous. Then we were taken in to an exam room.

The vet was rather cavalier about this little gerbil and the fact that she was ill. Upon examining her, he said that she was very sick. This, I expected. What I did not expect was the rather rough manner in which she was handled. Her eyes were shut due to them running. I can only assume related to her illness. She could not see. He did not have enough control of her while examining her and in turn she was allowed to fall off the examination table! This led to the poor thing biting me when I picked her up from the floor. She was terrified. Then he asked me if I wanted to take her home so my daughter could say goodbye. When I asked if she was in pain or suffering he responded with "she's been sick this long, what's another couple of days? " Really? I made the decision to let her go. I was not going to prolong her suffering any longer. Nor did I want my daughter to have to literally watch her pet die. The first needle was given and she eventually calmed down the second needle is given in the heart. I know this and was prepared. She was given the 2nd shot and instead of passing away peacefully, she continued to breathe for 15 minutes. I then had to let them know that she was still alive. She then had to have a 3rd shot (2nd to her heart). It concerns me that this little creature endured further suffering at the hands of a "professional". I was totally prepared to pay the inflated price for her to be treated. I can tell you, the "service" we were provided, was not at all worth it. I am sorry that I wasted your time with my tiny animal. I truly felt that he was lacking any kind of "bedside manner". To him, she was just a gerbil reaching the end of her life cycle. To my daughter, she was a beloved pet and part of our family. I am very disappointed and cannot in good faith recommend this clinic to anyone. It is my understanding that this vet also owns Mohawk animal clinic and Wilson Street clinic in Ancaster. Beware and do your research before you trust someone with your pet no matter how small they are. They are just as important as any other pet.

Everyone at this clinic is wonderful. They have cared for both my cats, one terminally ill and who I had to put down, and my other who has been sick off and on with some complicated stuff. They are always available to answer questions or clarify. If you can’t get a last minute appointment here, you can go to Mohawk Animal Clinic, which is such a relief. After I put my one cat down, I got a letter in the mail saying they had made a donation in his name. So sweet!

Very well organized and accommodating staff! They were professional and empathetic, everything a vet should be.

They were able to take my cat last minute even though she wasn't a patient there before. There was a wait but it was a last minute emergency appointment. If they don't answer the phone make sure you have your mask and walk-in, they'll help you as soon as they're available.

I'm new to coming here, but my experience was awesome. Very friendly staff and not overly expensive.

The vet who came to my house to euthanize my sweet cat made a horrible event even worse.
He was rushed, unprofessional and did not bring necessary equipment with him.
Things he did and said made the event something I will take to my grave with great sadness.

Excellent caring staff over many years we have been coming here. I would highly recommend Downtown Hospital.

This vet is wildly expensive and you see someone different each time. Support staff are lovely though.

More info: you gave my dog medication during a routine vaccination without my permission or advising me (another vet said it was a totally unnecessary anti-inflammatory). You charged $25 for a nail trim! Your practice and prices are indeed questionable.

My dog was having explosive diarrhea and my regular vet clinic wouldn't have been able to see him until the evening of the next day. As I was too worried to wait that long I called this clinic and they were able to get me in the very same day, within a couple hours. Dr. Ahn was very thorough and kind, and was able to treat the diarrhea and had my guy feeling better in no time. Very thankful for the prompt service and great experience.:)

I brought my 11 year old Burmese cat in around 2 weeks ago with some lethargy issues and had him checked out. After some preliminary x-rays and bloodwork he was prescribed some antibiotics and a cracked tooth was surmised as the source of infection. After two weeks on meds, he was well enough for a tooth extraction which was done on site with incredible care and speed. The best is the way the doctor made sure to charge for followup checkups as opposed to making it a pay as you go system, which I believe reduces stress and incentivises people to return and maintain pet health, as appointments are then covered and not subject to nebulous later fees. All the staff are friendly and clearly adore animals. I definitely recommed and will come back for regular checkups!

Bear my dog is thee most important person in my life. So, I choose Dr Michael very carefully. We have been going for our annual checks for the last four years. Service has always been top notch, responsive, honest and delivered with so, much heart from all the staff.

We have to use the Emergency Services at Mohawk Clinic their sister clinic a couple of times. Once for a upset tummy. The second time for a serious infection and they truly treated us all like family. A very expensive surgery was in the cards and when I said ai felt things were getting better they paused the surgery. Did a re exam and he was given the all clear, the antibiotics had worked their magic.

Bear always goes willingly even giving them a little tail wag. So they get Bears paw of approval. They have my heartfelt gratitude for caring for my best pal.

Thank you to Dr. Ahn, Sheila, Aileen, and the rest of the crew that helped our kitty, Betty, when we didn’t know where to turn. We are so grateful for your professionalism and willingness to help whenever we called after her surgery as well as before. Our pets are like our children and we are so lucky to have folks like you there to help when we need it most!

I just had an appointment with my fur baby puppy here today. The staff and doctor are very polite and answered all my questions (even though I kind of got in poop about my dog being overweight by the doctor lol.) The doctor is a straight shooter and tells you how it is. I would recommend this establishment to all that care about their fur babies.

They take care of my guys very well, had a cat put down too and they were very considerate even with COVID restrictions

Female receptionist knowledgeable & helpful with questions & concerns regarding my feline. She even recognized me standing in line in the snow outside (due 2 COVID) & knew exactly why I was there without me saying a word. As I am new 2 Hamilton I appreciate this service. Many thanks.

I believe Mr. Mogavero, you need to be a little more compassionate about concerns when they are being addressed to you. I agreed to delete my review about Miss Julie and her dog as I was not present or witnessed what happened. Maybe in future you can consider having a waiver drawn up for pet parent to have the option to bypass having expensive tests done before re-prescribing him the medication he had already been taking for the past year.
My issues is really when Cali needed to be stitched up 3 times after her mass was removed. She had done nothing but sit on the front lawn all day with her cone on, on pain meds for the most part.little walking as directed and still 3 times she had to be brought back in 6 weeks (10 weeks of healing) (and every time paid for) A very reliable vet tech who lives on our street motioned twice that "those staples were NOT going to hold" I may not know how much your vendors charge you for your equipment "staples, anesthesia, pain meds" as you mentioned to me on the phone, but we, as the customer pay YOUR FEE as well as the markup for the items you use. That is just business. I get it, but please refrain from speaking like this again. You are a good vet just a little bit "stand offish".

These guys are fantastic! We are new-ish to the Hamilton are and were very nervous about finding a new Vet. The folks at downtown animal are reliable, friendly, professional and they really do care about your pet. We had two cats in recently for two major surgeries and everyone was fantastic to work with! I highly highly recommend!

Fist of the 3 rating is purely because city vets are very expensive. The care my dogs get and the information that they share with me about my dogs are top notch easily a 4 to 4.5.

I would recommend this vet in a heartbeat.i had taken my cat to another hospital and had a horrible experience and excessive bills.the staff here were quick to help and actually cared about my little cat.they even went out of their way to call me to check in on how evie (my cat) was doing.i am so grateful for this incredible animal hospital!

WORST VET I've ever experienced!
So many complaints.not sure where to begin.

*Money hungry Vet that doesn't even take the time to ask your pet's name or give proper thorough care in a regular vet visit.

* Be warned this vet will accuse you of animal cruelty and threaten to report you if you don't take him up on his very expensive care options. Will use bullying and shaming tactics to try and get you to spend ridiculous amounts of money.

*Could seriously do without the open door, glass walled operating room that is clearly visible from everywhere in the facility. Shocked that this is even happening. The poor pup splayed open on the operating table for strangers to look on.talk about undignified treatment.

*Only redeeming quality, the receptionist is very lovely and clearly cares about animals. Mr. Mogavero should take some lessons from his staff in how to run a business!

Advice - save yourself the heartache and wallet gauging - stay clear of this vet.

I just wanted to extend a huge thank you to the team here who helped with the paperwork for my dog! When recently importing her to the UK there was an issue with an original documents. Aileen, Alana and Brianne went above and beyond to ensure all we had all documentation required for import. Despite raising a huge urgency with them, they dealt with my stress and got the job done! I cannot thank this wonderful group enough for all they did, they went above and beyond!

I changed vets when I moved to the area and couldn't be happier with the change. From the responsiveness of phone calls, to the welcoming environment when you step in the door this vet is amazing. The vet was very knowledgeable and was great with my pets. I would highly recommend taking your pets here!

Laura the groomer & staff are friendly. Michael the vet assured me that he would not allow the dog to bite him, and he was true to his word. I noticed later when my dog limped that two of his nails had blood underneath, presumably his cuticles had been cut and had bled.

I wouldn't give a second thought to the one star reviews in here. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Been bringing my dog Frye here for a year now with no issues. He even gets excited when he sees the Veterinarian.

Such wonderful staff. They booked both my dog and cat in for their shots on short notice and treated them extremely well. Anne the vet was exceptional and I was surprised how calm and easy both my boys were with her. She even called directly the following day to check in on them (going above and beyond in my books). The young lady receptionist was also notably warm and accommodating. So happy to have found our 'forever' vet. Thanks.

While my pets are not technically patients at this clinic, they are always incredibly helpful here. Always eager to help provide a solution to a problem. Never had a bad experience here. I've been here 5-10 times.

Over priced and the bigger older lady at the front desk is very rude. I wanted to slap her last time I took my cat there.

I had a Vet appointment today at the Downtown Animal Hospital located at 780 King St. E.in Hamilton. I took 3 cats, Puffy, Moop, and Nellie. Nellie being the cat that needed the most help.

I had asked for reviews of the hospital. Most notably was the expense factor. Yes, they are somewhat expensive, I will not argue that. However, they are also flexible. I went for flea treatments and an exam for Nellie. Nellie will be on steroids for the next 20 days and has a flea treatment for 90 days. Puffy and Moop just need the flea treatment, both for 90 days. They suggested that I apply the treatment saving me some money. So all tolled, for 3 cats (1 exam, 3 flea treatments (3 mos each), 20 days of steroids (liquid), and a can of flea and egg spray, the total came to under $300. Which I found to be reasonable, even on ODSP.

The receptionist, nurses, and vet were all pleasant. They helped explained what was wrong with Nellie, what needed to be done, and how to apply the flea treatment as well as how to give the steroids. They treated all the cats kindly, even The Most Miserable One - Puffy. I can't recall the vet's name (sorry) but she was a young female vet (sorry for assuming gender lol).

When it came time to pay there was a problem with my debit card. Which stressed me out beyond belief, let me tell you. They did their best to help me resolve the issue, even agreeing to a e-transfer if necessary (which is not normally an option). Thankfully TD pulled through and got my card to work in the end.

From the interactions they had with other pets and owners while I was there, they seem like a very good animal hospital. I would give them a 4/5 star rating, only losing a star due to the costs. Other vets charge less for consultations / exams but this location is close to me which helps due to my particular, peculiar disabilities.

I understand that this is the kind of experience that may vary from person to person, but I just thought I'd let people know that it is a good animal hospital. I absolutely will go again.

P. S.they have an awesome tabby that wanders the premises. I missed out on the chance to pet him: (But he looked like an awesome guy.: D

There are way better clinics out there with great, much better ratings then here, who actually have very Competent Caring Vets & Staff & High Standards. MICHAEL MOGAVERO IS THE WORST VET I EVER HAD IN MY LIFETIME. None of these qualities ur Clinics even come close to especially during the past years. Classify male vet especially at his Clinics as Incompetent, Arrogant, Careless, Uncaring, Rude & Shady as Many People have already stated. Much Better Vets Out There Who Actually Care about All the Animals they treat. How is it helpful to Clients when you give your own clinic a 5 Star Review. Great veterinary services, but expensive. It's the only place I trust in the downtown Hamilton area!

I brought my pug in for a standard checkup and vaccinations. The Dr and staff were very friendly, informative and understanding. The pricing was typical for other veterinarians I have used in the past and I didn't feel as though they were pressuring us into buying services we didn't need.

Ok you want a review with comments? Your vet tech slammed my cat into the table while giving him a needle which is why we have been going elsewhere for years now (5 star shout out to The Cat Clinic!). POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE THEY ARE HORRIBLE PEOPLE. Awful counter staff and rude rep responding to online reviews. You wanted it, you got it!

The service is great but it is expensive, my pet got the care she needed and they do reach out after to make sure your pet is well which was nice.

My daughter took her pet rat in and was told there was nothing wrong with the rodent (no exam) He then gave her the bill and then proceeded to belittle her for not bring cash money with her and that she was wasting his time coming in without $. We took her pet to a caring vet but by 5 pm her pet was dead. Thank you for nothing.

Always excellent customer service! Their wait times can go over the scheduled appointment times, but the vets are always well educated and have great competitive pricing. I travel a ways just for them! ️

Vet claims to take in exotic pets but as soon as you get there says he is "no expert" out right had no idea what he was talking about. Gave me a diet sheet for my very obviously dieing bearded dragon and told me to go to the reptile store down the street because they knew more than him. On top of my distress he was incredibly rude and had no problem pointing fingers at what I was doing wrong when I was told I had done everything right by the owner of the reptile store. Dont waste your money or time.

Terrible experience with this “doctor”. He was very uncaring and cold and gave me terrible advice and information - that proved itself to be utterly wrong. I’ve been to a lot of vets, and came to this one as it was very last minute and they had a spot available, and regret it immensely. Do NOT take your small animals here.
Front desk was very kind, and I have nothing bad to say about them.

I was told me all my other rats (5) would (not maybe, he was CERTAIN) contract the respiratory infection and die. (They didn’t) I was offered no medication/advice for them - on top of being told it was pointless to try and give the baby I brought in medication. I was belittled for giving my rat a yogurt drop during her final hours, being told it’s like giving her “100 cheeseburgers” (if you’re a rat owner, this will make you laugh.)
- as an experienced rat owner the visit left me and my partner appalled and we continue to warn everyone we know to NOT bring small animals here.
This 5 min visit cost over $100.

This was the worst experience I have ever had with any Vet. The man there should not be a vet as his manner is rude cold uncaring and unfeeling. He handles the cats with no care what so ever. After a large bill I felt like here leave your money and and get lost. If you care about your animal at all never bring it to this company and especially to the man Vet there.
I will never go back to this place or the Main Street west one which is the sister company and I there is one in dundurn. I will never ever go to any one related to it or this one especially.
