Short wait time and always friendly staff. I appreciate Dr. Mah taking the time to explain everything in great detail and answering my questions.

I was Dr. Mah's patient for 7 years and he broke my trust when I discovered he was being dishonest, overcharging me and harming my health. He would charge me for a "year supply of contacts" telling me the contacts were wearable for 2 months at a time when he was really only giving me 6 months worth and pocketing the rest of the cash. I developed a very serious eye condition and he was reprimanded by the College but the College conveniently removes decisions after a few years.
When I confronted him he had nothing to say but to withhold my medical records and tell me I had "bad vibes". Seemingly a disturbed man but I write this so you are cautious and mindful of his charging practices for the sake of your own eyes. Look up his brother Dr. Andrew Mah who has a similar disciplinary history.

I travel from Leaside to Markham for better service over a more convenient location near by. I highly recommend Dr Alex Mah

Dr. Mah and the staff at the optometrist office are friendly, caring and knowledgeable about vision and eye care. I’ve been coming here for a number of years and I’m always able to get my questions and concerns dealt with quickly and effectively. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!
As soon as we walked in, the receptionist, without knowing anything about the nature of our visit, said "Dr. Alex Mah has suggested that we all should have an advance and comprehensive eye exams" ($220.00 each exam) as opposed to the normal eye exam ($120.00 each exam). I declined.
We waited for more than an hour, then the man came out of his room, no apology whatsoever for being late and keeping me and my 2 little girls there for that long. He spent about 90 seconds on each of us!
In addition, when I received my glasses from a different place, I found out that he gave me the wrong prescription, so I had to go somewhere else for the same procedure!

My family and I have been going to Dr. Mah for all our "eyes" needs for the last couple of years now. He is a good listener & is very attentive to ensuring our needs & concerns are met and taken care of. We also cannot say enough good things about Christina who is ever so professional, prompt & yet kind and has a bright personality that can put a smile on anyone's face any day. Dr. Mah, Christina and the entire team at the clinic have been wonderful. They are thorough, available, and extremely caring and patient as my 13 year old started the Ortho-K treatment. This is an excellent optometrist practice. Dr. Mah is very thorough, caring and experienced. His wife Chris runs the office and she also is extremely helpful, professional and friendly. When I had some problems with my eye-wear they were fixed promptly and courteously. Thoroughly recommended.

I have been using Dr Mah for about 10 years. He and his staff are friendly, courteous and very professional. The examination is quick, efficient and well explained. The front office staff are very patient in helping you to find the right frames from a wide range of options, and provide excellent support if there are any challenges with your glasses. I used to shop at LensCrafters, but found the service here much superior and the pricing reasonable.

We are extremely disappointed with Dr. Alex Mah and his office. To say the least, they were irresponsible. As a result, our daughter’s nearsightedness has progressed badly under his care or lack of care.
In 2019, we saw our daughter’s nearsightedness progressed badly, so we visited a few optometrists for the Ortho-K program. We finally decided to go with Dr. Mah in November 2019 because he and his team gained our trust by saying all the right things including regular follow up appointments. Everything was fine in the first few weeks until our scheduled appointment on March 20,2020 was canceled by his office due to the COVID 19.
After the cancellation, we never heard from them for sixteen months. We did not know if they were open or not. After the reopening on July 16,2021, we called them for an eye exam appointment.
After nineteen months, we finally saw Dr. Mah again on July 26,2021. Unfortunately, our daughter’s nearsightedness has progressed very badly. We asked Dr. Mah why it got so bad even with the Ortho-K. He gave us some indefinite answers including she has grown, too much screen time, genetics, everyone is different, etc. On the other hand, his definite conclusion was that her eyesight would have dropped even more if she did not wear the Ortho-K. We believed him again, althought we were very disappointed with the result. We even paid the deposit for a new pair of Ortho-K following the appointment.
After we went home, we asked a few friends for their Ortho-K experiences with other optometrists during the COVID 19. They told us they had follow up appointments, so the progressions were closely monitored and necessary corrections were taken. It made us very upset and mad because our daughter’s progression would have been caught in time if she could have received the follow up appointments. They were paid for in the initial fee.
On July 28,2021, we went back to Dr. Mah office and demanded our deposit back for the new Ortho-K. They refunded our deposit. We asked the program coordinator if and when the office was open and if they accepted new patients during the pandemic. She told us that they reopened in June 2020 and they did accept new patients afterwards. We asked her why they had time to accept new patients but nobody called us to reschedule our appointments. Her first answer was that they did not call anybody back because they did not know if their patients wanted to come back during the pandemic. I asked her if that is a part of their job and responsibility to call and ask, so she changed her answer by saying that they called a few patients after reopening and they all said no, so they stopped calling. We were really shocked by her answers and “honesty”. We told her that we are extremely disappointed with the way that Dr. Mah handled our case and probably many others. She told us that it has nothing to do with Dr. Mah because it was not his job to make appointments or reschedule them. We told her that Dr. Mah is fully responsible for the whole operation not just the eye examination.
Of course, she apologized a few times for what have happened to our daughter. Unfortunately, her apologies won’t bring back time. We think it was very brave of her trying to take all blames. However, we suspect it was a corporate decision not to call anybody anymore because they got too busy. As a professional optometrist, Dr. Mah and his office should know very well that the follow up appointments are essential and crucial part of the Ortho-K program. We wish we knew that before.
We trusted Dr. Mah but he has betrayed our trust. He did not demonstrate a reasonable and necessary care for us and did not fulfill his duties as a doctor. We decided to take our daughter somewhere else but we want other people to know what have happened to us under Dr. Mah’s watch. We sincerely hope that Dr. Mah and his office will reflect on their inaction and start calling patients whose appointments were canceled. Their lack of responsibility and lack of action will harm patients’ health, which they can’t bring back.

I had severe dry eye syndrome in my right eye, which developed after a cataract surgery. Frustrated from suffering from the prolonged eye discomfort, I went to see Dr. Mah, who is my best friend's optometrist for many years.

After a very careful and detailed checkup, Dr. Mah explained to me clearly and patiently what had happened to my eye,   and the treatment he would pursue as well as the possible outcome to expect. It was a great relief to have eventually gotten the proper diagnosis and treatment from an excellent doctor.

My eye condition has improved a lot now and I really appreciate Dr. Mah's professionalism and expertise. Last but not the least, the staff of the clinic are extremely helpful and friendly, which has made each visit a pleasant experience, thanks again!

My entire family and I have been going to Dr. Mah’s well before he moved from Markville Mall around 2008. I have trusted Dr. Mah with my sons since when they were little kids and I am gonna tell them to take their kids to him too. He’s always very professional, thorough and very easy to talk to. I was there on May 14th, 2021, a little nervous because of COVID-19. But, the place was constantly being sanitized, like they had a clean as you go policy and being very careful with not having too many patients at the same time, made me feel very safe the entire time I was there.

Dr. Mah and Christina are great! My eye exam went smoothly and Dr. Mah was very informative and answered all questions. Christina spent time to help my
Husband and I choose our glasses. There was another lady working there, didn’t catch her name but she was very sweet as well. Highly recommend.

I can't even believe this individual still has a practice. He is rude and deceitful. Both he and his brother are known to the College.

He has admitted to marking up the price of contacts and ripping off his customers by pocketing the money. He'll tell you that your contacts are a year supply and each pair can be worn for two months, when he's actually only giving you half of what you ordered at full price.

Check your invoices carefully and be sure you look for the price of your contact lenses elsewhere.

The College sadly protects this idiot and others by just smacking them on the wrist

The service here is impeccable, my entire family (including the kids) would only trust Dr. Mah with our eyes. We've been coming here for years and I would trust anyone else. My daughter was only 4 when she started here and she was so scared, the Suzette and the staff made her feel so comfortable. I walk in and feel as though I've been going there forever! Dr. Mah doesn't rush through his check-up, he takes the time to answer any questions you may have to put your worry at ease. His professionalism is unprecedented. Have been trusting my eyes to Dr. Mah for many years. He and his staff are very knowledgeable, professional and thorough in both testing and helping me find the right eyewear. Wouldn't go anywhere else!

I’ve been going to Dr. Mah since I was in kindergarten, and I feel like can’t express the immense disappointment I feel right now in words.

As a doctor, I believe he’s still great; he knows what he’s talking about and he knows my eyes. However, something has changed in both him and the office. For some reason he was pushing products his office sells that I don’t really need. I found it odd, but at least he still gives me the option to choose if I want it.

His other staff however was the biggest disappointment. I feel betrayed and disgusted; like I was lied to right to my face. My family is not well off right now, so we came to get basic check ups without all the sparkles and special things. It even said so on the papers we filled out that we wanted basic check ups, but clearly physical paper instructions mean nothing.

My family and I called in ahead of time to book appointments, specifying basic check ups. When we got there we said our hellos as they said their welcome backs, and filled out the paper work. It says on the paper to check some boxes if we want extra check ups done, which costs extra. Naturally, we all said no because we are aware of those costs.

Everything seemed to go as normal, we went in one at a time. When I went in they did the pressure check and pictures, but then the assistant helping me said I needed to put in eye drops. I was confused because it wasn’t normal, and asked if it was the standard for a regular check up. She told me it was and proceeded to do it. I didn’t argue, and the check up continued. Dr. Mah gave me a slightly more detailed check up, which I thought odd, but brushed it off.

When my family was done, they gave us the bill. I was shocked; the numbers didn’t add up, and I asked for a break down of the bill. I was told I can’t get the break down until I pay the bill, so I pushed for at least a basic breakdown. After removing all the extra products that supposedly the doctor insisted we get, the bill was still much higher than expected. My mother finally gave in and said she’ll pay it to see the breakdown. Once she did, the assistant printed something out and said that she charged us less and now had to charge us more. It made no sense after arguing for so long that apparently we STILL owed more.

Then she finally showed us the chart explaining that she charged us for the premium eye checks, which on the paperwork we specifically DID NOT ask for. We were very upset, when the other assistant asked us to talk in the back. Surprisingly another man was yelling about the same thing, and before he left he said “You’re all a bunch of crooks! ” And stormed out.

She went through the breakdown with us, to work out what happened. Realizing the mistake that happened, we were told we’d get a refund in the mail.

5 months later and we’ve still yet to see that cheque.

After all these years, I’m honestly baffled and upset that someone we trusted for so long would do something like this to us. My mother told me to hold back on this review, but I believe it is long overdue. If they told us straight to our faces that they were tight on money or something, I think I would have been at least a little more lenient (since we could relate). But doing things in such a round about way for a couple extra hundred dollars? I’d like to think they have officially lost a family of customers.

** If you decide to see Dr. Mah, make sure you know EXACTLY the process of the eye appointment type you want to pay for. If they push you to do something special outside of your chosen check up, be firm and clear of what you want.

My family and I have been going to see Dr. Alex Mah for a few years, and over the past few years, we have been more than satisfied with the level of service provided by Dr. Alex Mah and his staff. Our family has various ocular needs, including pediatric issues, contacts and astigmatism. Consistently at every visit, our individual needs are addressed with care and transparency. I really appreciate how the staff explains our options thoroughly.

I have been especially grateful for the way they have handled the diagnosis and treatment of my son's ocular needs. As a parent, no one wants to hear that their child needs glasses. However, I feel like the condition causing him to need glasses, the long term prognosis and the treatment options available were detailed in such a way that I could make the best decision for my child. Once I made my decision, the staff supported us every step of the way. Now my son is thriving, and he loves his stylish glasses. I owe all this to Dr. Mah and his staff.

Personally, I value the fact that the staff not only have the technical knowledge, but their sense of style is unparalleled. When going through frame options, I am confident that they will help me pick out one that elevates and enhances my style. I feel like I could get a pretty good pair anywhere, but the staff at the office (especially Christina) helps me find a pair that makes me look amazing! I have received numerous compliments on every pair I have received, and it's an amazing feeling all thanks to the staff's eye for style.

Overall, we continue to be happy with our decision to make Dr. Mah and Associates our family's optometrist!

My family of 5 has been going to Dr. Mah for 18+ years. I can say my kids all grew up with this office. Absolutely love the team! Christina & Suzette are super helpful, very friendly and patient, especially when it came to the kids. Dr. Mah is extremely knowledgeable and always takes his time to do a proper check and answer any questions or concerns we may have. This team is always accommodating with even the last minute appointments I have required in the past. My family has moved away from Markham however we have not and will not change our Optometrist as we know we are with the BEST. I would definitely recommend DR. Mah to all.
