Loved eating at Du Hsiao Yueh! The Taiwanese dishes were so tasty. We tried Da-A Noodle, Traditional Minced Pork Rice, Golden Fried Shrimp Roll, Braised Pork Intestine, Crispy Oyster Omelette, Fried Cabbage With Sakura Shrimp, and Peeled Chili Pepper Chicken Soup. Everything was delicious, especially the Da-A Noodle and Crispy Oyster Omelette.

The place was cozy, and the service was great. I really hope they open a Du Hsiao Yueh in the US so more people can enjoy this awesome food.

I do like their food overall, the down side was the service, if there's any. They are not rude, just careless. Didn't say any word when we got in, didn't say anything when delivering the menu, and of course didn't say a word when delivering the food. They just went back to their counter and looked at their phone. Didn't even bother to say anything when the customers left.
Sad to see a good restaurant with poor service.

First time at this location and first time trying Taiwanese food. Delicious, great service, and interesting ambiance. Worth a visit.

Good for a quick bite with a bubble tea since they were formerly a Green Grotto. The atmosphere can be very loud at times making it difficult to have conversations

Portions are very small. Honestly the portions they serve are one of the smallest I’ve experienced in an Asian restaurant. Food tasted average and nothing stood out to me. If something stood out it’s because it was disappointing. Prices are not cheap either. So many good restaurants in this area and I would not come back here.

Foods are delicious but price is not good. The portion sizes are smaller than last year. Won’t be back as often as used to, mainly due to high price and small portion size.

We love the food there, I don't feel thirsty like I had msg. Food quality is quite consistent. The place is spacious. On weekdays, the service is excellent. On the weekend, service quality will be slightly different due to the volume of customers. My order was taken quickly after I made an effort to get the attention of a waiter, they forgot to give us water/tea as well. We waited for a long time for our dessert.

Overall, I like this place, we will always like to come back. I prefer to come on weekday.

A bit disappointed they don’t offer lunch set during weekend. Portion small, taste kind of light but acceptable, except soup noodle is too plain. Overall it doesn’t worth for the price. Service is fine, but not excellent.

Love Taiwanese food, the quality of food is good, portions are on the small size. I would say with the limited resources we have in Toronto, the food taste very good already. If you look for Taiwanese food, this is the go to place!

Excellent food, excellent price… probably the best value location in Markham. Will go back many times…

Nice ambiance for lunch or dinner with same menu. Have set lunches if you want a sampler as we did on our 1st visit. Portion on the smaller side so for a party of 2 at lunch, we ordered 1 set lunch sampler, 1 daily special and an extra noodle to share.

I used to come here when it was called green grotto. Still the same friendly place the eel rice is sooooo good

Great Taiwanese cuisine. Portions are small so it's relatively expensive. Would I go back? Hell yes! Bring earplugs, noisy place

The Chinese name of this restaurant literally means ‘surviving the month’ (of strong monsoon wind barring the fisherman from the rough sea, and he supported the family by selling dishes to villagers.) That was how the restaurant was founded.

Food is very good and so is service.

Came here on a Thursday night for the first time. The staff was really polite, decor is really nice, and food came out quick. However a combo for 2 for $68 discounted? !
29 March 2022 19:04
First off I dont understand why all the poor reviews. The food is authentic and price is very reasonable compare to many restaurants with their overpowering spiced food. Bottomline, many of you people wont appreciate their food if youve never been to Taiwan, and if you people are complaining about over paying, trust me, youre not! It’s worth paying for quality!
Definitely deserves more than five stars.

Nice little gem in a convenient location. Interior design was modern & pleasing, service was very friendly & professional. Our waiting staff advised us no need to order braised egg as it comes with our noodle. And warning us every time he brought hot dishes Almost all of the food are above average, they are smaller in size compared with other traditional Chinese food but this is a Taiwanese culture. We didn’t mind it. Will definitely go back to try the other dishes.

I'm brand new to Taiwanese food, the server was fantastic and very helpful with recommendations. Very friendly and humoured my uncle who enjoys making conversation. Very thorough on what was in the dishes and how they are prepared. Establishment is incredibly clean, fast service and almost too fast with bringing food.

The food was delicious, the portion sizes are well proportioned for my uncle and I to share many different dishes. Our favourites were the three cup chicken, marinated squash and passion fruit, and Da-a Noodle.

Came for the 100 year tradition noodles, stayed for the ham hock and fried chicken

This place really does live up to its name. The noodles have a unique chewy bite to it and im already a bit biased as I do love thick round noodles and they were just about there! The texture is silky and the noodles were quite bouncy too!

The ham hock… I did have my reservations about it as i don’t just eat hock out of the blue, but my friend said we gotta try it. And I was super impressed! So tender and juicy and the sauce they used was so nicely flavoured and soaked so well into the hock that every bite you just wanna ladle some sauce to get it soaking in!

The red vinasse fried chicken was another amazing dish! The colour is a pinkish hue that is given off through the use of sugar beets. With that in mind, ever so slightly sweet with a Big Crunch and so tender and juicy after breaking that fried barrier.

If you love interiors and decor, they got this down pat. Super eye catching and appealing to the eyes as soon as you walk in, so many things draw to your attention.

Service was awesome! The waiter was very attentive to us and made you feel almost fine dining like!

This place is a little on the pricier side, but you will definitely leave content and on a full stomach! Don’t overestimate the portion size with price. When I went, looks like they will also be having a drive thru, so cannot wait to see how that will go!

Great job overall!

Food are tasteless even fast food is better. Also, everything is way over priced. Deep fried meat are all dry and over cooked. I would rather get Popeye's than their food. Not coming again.

My first time trying this restaurant. We got the da-a noodle, minced pork rice, popcorn chicken, taiwanese sausage and crispy oyster. Everything taste really good, the noodle, minced pork rice and the oyster is really stand out the most. It’s little bit pricey because the portion is so small. It’s more like a snack portion instead for a meal. Definitely worth the try and would like to come back here.

This place is honestly perfect and excellent- cleanliness, ambiance, the food- but unfortunately, I must agree with others: the price is pulling down the overall ratings.

We have ordered 3 dishes to try- Da-A noodles, crispy oyster omelet, and crispy fried pork intestines, together with a common Taiwanese drink that can be found in almost all night markets- limeade with aiyu jelly. All these dishes really had the authenticity that brought us back to our trip to Taiwan.

The Da-A noodles were rich in garlic flavor. The only downside to the dish was the price. You are paying $7 for 3 slurps of noodles. Yes, I understand that the Da-A noodles you find in Taiwan night markets were also the same size but definitely not at that price.

The crispy fried pork intestines were aromatic and not oily at all. Perfectly paired with the five-spice powder that was provided as it added more flavor to each bite.

The crispy oyster omelet was definitely what I have imagined. The dish was my all-time favorite growing up but never had it with sweet & spicy, almost creamy-ish sauce poured on. Mini oysters were found in the omelet which gave the omelet true to its name. The downside to this dish was the green veggie. Normally or the ones I have had were with green onions instead of Tong-Ho which was a veggie that I dislike with its bitter distinct taste.

The limeade really brought me back to the happy times spent strolling down the night markets in Taiwan.

Food is overpriced and it tastes like food court style. Da-A noodles is just like $1.99 cup noodles. Bad customer service. Not a good place to eat.

Just opened in September 2021, this is a famous noodle restaurant originated from Taiwan. The portions here are small and you can certainly customise your toppings.
Broth is delicious and honestly you can't go wrong picking either noodles, vermicelli or rice, as a base. With the small portions, you might have to eat two bowls to just fulfill your appetite.
Their other dishes like the 3 cup chicken and oyster pancake were also delicious.
The interesting vegetable I tried was squash and syrup. The crunch in the squash was prominent.but it tastes more like a dessert.
You can also order drinks of Green Grotto in this establishment. The deco is also beautiful and reminds me of a tea house.
Don't wait for the server to bring you your bill. You have to bring and make the payment by the register as you walk and head out.

We always enjoy the food here. So far we’ve tried the red fried chicken, daw-an, minced pork rice, crispy omelette, Taiwanese sausage.and the Hokkaido milk tea and mango slushy. Great Taiwanese comfort food and service is always friendly.:) would recommend!

I like this place, they offer different Taiwanese dishes than our regular ones in GTA. It's quality too. They use different herbs and spices for the dishes, and all balanced so well together to enhance the flavour, none was overpowered tho.

A lot of people complain portion is small, yes they are, but they are meant to be and the initial restaurant in Taiwan offers same size. Isn't it great so we can try different dishes? However, they might be overpriced. I got half of a small paper box of fried oysters for $19, those boxes that are for side dishes normally.

Dishes we enjoyed:
Da-a noodles - the broth is really good! And seems like they make the noodles in house too.
Fried oysters
Taro cakes dipping sauce - full of flavour, so good
Rice - very good texture

Dishes we didn't like:
Salt and pepper batter (chicken) - we got tiny dried pieces only, don't think we got much chicken but fried batter. This is the worst I've ever had in my life.

The taro cake, we were not sure if it was fully cooked. Inside it's still runny like a dough.

We got dash delivery specifically said no straw and didn't request utensils, but all came in.

Anyways, I would love to return and try other food!

Food is overpriced and it tastes like food court style. Servers are always chatting without looking at customers. Not commanding this place to anyone.
09 February 2022 8:06
Today is our second visit here. Tried several different dishes, all are very impressively amazing. Through these Taiwanese dishes, we are able to feel their history and culture. The crispy oyster omelette is absolutely delicious and special! Definitely we will come back again to explore more dishes from their menu.

The food was spectacular. We were greeted with piloted server upon arrival.
Place was very clean and the store manager came out few time to express his appreciation for dine in his store during the pandemic.
04 February 2022 11:40
Came by to grab take out. Turns out they had created a separate takeout menu for meal sets due to the restrictions which was great because I was gonna grab a drink somewhere else otherwise.

[ Salt and Pepper chicken w/ rice ] - Presentation is good and the taste matches how it looks. Chicken was tasty, had a nice crunch to it and was not dry. The vegetables worked well together nothing that's overpowering.

I like how the decor looks and can't wait until the restrictions are lifted so that I can dine in here.
03 February 2022 16:57
Overall, a very pleasant experience. The wait staffs were very attentive and the food tasted good. I do wish the portions could be bigger.
24 January 2022 22:09
Ho jia! The taste is authentic, and I’m not sure why some people would criticize their price for what amounts to the same as a bubble tea.
