East India Company is my absolute favourite restaurant! The food is always amazing and the Naan bread is out of this world delicious! The service is always excellent I come here often and have always had an excellent experience. By far the best Indian restaurant I have been to.
We went for the lunch buffet which was very fairly priced. Fantastic food selection, many vegetarian options. We ordered garlic Naan and it paired delishiously with the sauces from the buffet. The Korma especially was a hit for me.
We did some back and fourth from our seats to the buffet a few times, the beautiful decor up front did interfere a little bit when we walked around with full plates. It wasn't at all busy, but I imagine if the place was full, anyone a little clumsy could spill around that tight spot.
Overall a very good place and will be visiting again for that amazing vegetable Korma!
The BEST butter chicken I have ever had! All the food was perfect. Even the naan bread was outstanding! We also loved the chicken Biryani! We ordered take out but the restaurant was very beautiful inside. Would definitely recommend
We went without a reservation on a Saturday which also happened to be Diwali. We probably waited 15 minutes, but it was well worth it. The buffet was lovely, so many great options. The owner was so nice and chatted with us before leaving. It was a highlight of our trip to Ottawa and we will eat here again of returning to the city.
This place is great. The wife and I came in for the lunch buffet one day and went for a nice walk downtown after. Everything on the menu was great. They make fresh naan for you, so good! 10/10 recommend.
I came in with my family on Wednesday and we had a wonderful time. The food was great and despite it getting very busy, both the waiters Matthew and Zach were fantastic.
What a waste! Bland food. We had been here before (2 years back) and were really pleased, so we visited them again. This time we were utterly disappointed. The oder was not taken correctly, we were charged for it. The Muglai Paneer was totally bland. We had to ask for slat and pepper. They offered to cook something else, but we were starving and could not wait, so we're were told that we will receive a heavy discount. The naans were very thick and cooked unevenly. Rice that comes along with the curry was ok. We were provided with a bill that was not discounted. There was an extra naan and an extra curry that we were charged for.in the end they removed the curry but not the naan and the heavy discount was merely $5 off.
Super generous! I ordered a combo for the 2 half dishes and asked for no rice (can't eat due to surgery) I was made aware the price could not be changed which was no problem! I opened my bag when I got home to see 2 full size dishes and no rice AND a salad made for me! I was shocked and was not expecting that and was fully prepared to pay for the normal 1/2 size each. Beyond impressed and as usual.their food smelled and tasted amazing! Thank you East India Company, you made my night!
Absolutely fabulous Indian food. Lots of variety, interesting choices of vegetables, lamb, chicken, beef. Crispy pappodoms and naan. Very helpful and attentive staff. And wonderful setting: those sculptures!
Somerset location. I bought the rice pudding dessert to take out, They gave me rice that had already been cooked separately mixed with what seemed to be leftover/saved watery rice pudding liquid. Straight up disrespectful. Imagine loosing a solid client over a rice pudding. The fact I’m not Indian doesn’t mean I can’t tell what is what.
Food is great, we tried the supper buffet, all the main dishes that we tried are very good.i was expecting the food to be more spicy, but only few dishes had the hot/spices, the Tandoory chicken was one of them.the servers are friendly and kept checking if all is well and if we needed anything.the washrooms are clean. I really enjoyed my meal, and my visit, I recommend this restaurant, we will defiantly comeback. Keep up the good work.
Did not take dinner buffet and ordered for menu. Food was undercooked and yogurt was sour, the staff did replace some items but waiting time and lack of taste killed the mood. In the end it was David (he was not even serving us) who noticed our dissatisfaction and tried to help. 3 stars are for his effort to help and not for the food.
I've been coming to this restaurant over than 5 years. Every single visit is amazing. Great service great food. Highly recommend to to visit a peace of India in Ottawa.
It was my first time there today. I tried the buffet to be honest i personally didn’t like the food it was cold and it taste weird or like old. The only thing that i liked was the salad. The butter chicken needs more spices and it was cold too. Im a big fan of Indian food so i wanted to try this place since i heard of it from one of my friend’s. Their rice was realy not fresh. The food quality was bad in my opinion. I would highly recommand to try the kebab curry Indian restaurant in downtown everything is fresh there and it taste good and thats where i usualy go. Not to forget to mention that the service was poor quality.
We went for buffet for the first time at this location and the food was just amazing, And great Service offered by Emily, unfortunately our phones were very low on charging and we had no internet, she offered help by telling us the wifi password and waited patiently the whole time while we were trying to pull our vaccine receipts.
We have been getting the East India Company’s takeout for months now - we also enjoyed the in-restaurant dining before Covid. The food is absolutely fantastic and the service is always great. Really can’t go wrong with this place. I look forward one day to sitting out on the patio surrounded by palm trees and tiki lights w the sounds of relaxing Raga playing and comforted by the exotic aromas of curry and Chai. That would be great.
Stone found. Ordered Delhi Veg Biryani on yesterday from Uber eats and a stone found in it which caused pain and loosen my teeth when I was eating and half of it swallowed due as didn’t expect or notice stone in the Biryani.such a very shocking and careless attitude which possess health risk.booking appointment for dentist and going for ultrasound.
We've been ordering fantastic take-out from them during the pandemic to satisfy our cravings, but we recently enjoyed a long-anticipated family reunion meal at East India Company. A big table was organized for us on their great terrace and it was perfect for our group. The restaurant has food that appeals to both adventurous and picky eaters, young and old. Some preferred to order a la carte, others were happy to partake in the wonderful buffet. All the food was absolutely delicious, the service was excellent and the measures in place made us feel well cared for.
I have been eating at East India Company since high school - the food is consistently amazing. The buffet always has something new as well as all of the classic items! The service is always great - highly recommended.
Had been here before for A la carte during covid time. But enjoyed the buffet more. Beautiful ambience & sculptures. Variety of food choices both veg, non-veg & also vegan.
Lovely ambience - variety in display statues decors etc. Must explore Buffet - wide range of choices in both veg and non-veg and sweetsssss. Quantity matches the price. Food is delicious. Friendly staff. Has patio. Only one issue drinking water smelled like fish water.
Amazing food and great ambience! Pascal was extremely helpful and the food was catered to our individual tastes. My husband wanted mild food and I wanted spicy and it was served just the way we wanted. Would recommend when visiting Ottawa and craving for Indian food.
Excellent quality food! We had a great time enjoying several of their food dishes and all were awesome except Navratan Korma which could have been better. Their tandoori roti was precisely baked with even golden brownish colour throughout! Good Job Anish and Pascal!
You don't get that 'authentic' Indian taste. They don't make it spicy and to be honest everything you get here is mediocre, except cheese nans-guys trust me they are delicious loved it!
We asked for Hyderabad style spicy biryani, but what we got was fried rice which was included with bell peppers, and for the spiciness they put red chilli powder on top of the rice and served it. Who the heck uses bell peppers in Hyderabad biryani. If you don’t know how to cook, you could have removed it from your menu. We literally starved the whole day and went there to have a great food, which they totally disappointed.
The food is lovely had a really nice dinner I would recommend this restaurant. We will definitely order from here again and look forward to be able to go and eat in the restaurant when the lockdown is over.
East India Company has the best Indian food in Ottawa. We order from them regularly and are always satisfied. Recently, we order through UberEats. The driver forgot half the order. East India Company went out of their way to contact us and delivered the rest of our order personally. I can't thank them enough for the great customer service.
Just finished the meal for 4 with my family, and it’s some of the best we’ve ever tasted. Great butter chicken and the curries were delightful. We'll be coming back.
Great Indian restaurant in Ottawa! Our order was delicious. Their Naan was perfectly cooked. I also really enjoyed their samosas! The order was really well packaged and came with a cute little handwritten note. Very thoughtful!
Excellent food and variety and very affordable prices. Loved the cheese naan, ordered it 3 times after the first time already. Would absouletly try this place if craving some Indian food.
The East India Company is our go to for Indian in Ottawa. Everyone loves the selection. 9 yo says “it’s so good, I couldn’t stop eating it”! Staff is friendly and take out orders are always fresh and ready on time. Thanks for another delicious meal!
Paneer makhani, Bhurta Amritsari & railway mutton curry were really good. The navratan wasn’t my favourite (too sweet for me & not spicy). Parantha could’ve used more layers. Would definitely order from here again!:)
The food is very good, despite being a bit pricey. I've ordered from them recently and received a hand written note, thanking me. Always happy to support a small business in my city.
We ordered through skip the dishes two nights ago and were thrilled with our food! Everything was absolutely delicious and we are very much looking forward to our next meal. You can always tell a restaurant that takes pride in their food, and this place certainly does! 10/10
One of best ambiance I have seen for an Indian restaurant. The food is delicious without a doubt, it is freshly prepared and even the variety is nice. The price is for sure on the higher side and it is an expensive place. But for me I can say that the taste of the food covers for it.
Highly recommended! Food was delicious, not too spicy and the quality was excellent. Take out service was efficient, safe and friendly. If you are worried about Covid then try take out from here. You won't be disappointed.
My wife and have try to support local restaurants by ordering take out, but the last 2 were very disappointing. Yesterday we tried the East India Company on Robertson rd.and were treated to an excellent meal. The curried lamb was killer and my wife loved the butter chicken. The only complaint and it's not a biggie was the naan was a bit doughy, other than that everything was spot on. Highly recommend this restaurant not only for the quality of the food but the reasonable prices. Well done.
I love their food. I’m always ordering take out because it’s just that good. My go-to has to be dal makhani and coconut shrimp (both mild and vindaloo options are good).
Delicious and great for a family who has food allergies because they were very very careful with our orders. We have ordered take-out from them twice and we will order again soon. This restaurant has become a family favourite!
I go for buffet in this restaurant while i was in tour of ottawa. After eating cold starter (which served hot ad per indian taste) i started main course. But the vegetables are taste like they cooked before 2 days.testless. They chared for Naan which is free in every Indian restaurant. I do not recommended this restaurant for people want indian taste in ottawa.
Bad experience with this restaurant. They served first rice.after 10 min, they serve curry but no bread/naan untill 30 min. And after they serve stuffed naan which is not properly cooked it just uncooked dough. Other Naan is over cooked. We order four naan but they serve just one. We came here all the way from 110 km. Curry is delicious that's why I am giving.
Fair price and the naan was excellent (only 3 bucks for 4 large pieces, we got the garlic). Solid selection and fast service (although it is a self serve all you can eat buffet.)
So delicious - we enjoyed almost every single buffet item there and were pleased with everything, especially the Tawa Chicken that sizzled right before our eyes. We also really enjoyed the beautiful chutneys and desserts! The mango mouse and rice pudding was so delicious and if we weren't stuffed to bursting after eating it, we would have had more. Best Indian food I've had outside my own grandmother's kitchen.
I don’t want to give one star also but dint had option of that, food was tasteless and the attitude of the chef/owner was bad.he wasn’t interested in feedback and kept saying he knows the best. He said “ Everything is same as winnipeg trust me we know and said Thanks gentleman” and left! Is this the way you treat people! Worst food and worst attitude by the owner! Would never recommend this restaurant to anyone!
I chose something from the menu, smt like chicken dabbeh. I wasn't able to eat it. It was really bad. The staff didn't even ask if I would prefer something else in it's place, although they realized I was not able to eat it at all. Bad experience. All they said was sorry.
The place had some really good Indian snacks like Samosa. They also had good chicken biriyani. It is a bit expensive compared to other Indian restaurants but it is different. The customer service is not bad.
Currently sitting in the restaurant full to the top of my head. Super satisfied. Every. Single. Bite. Was. Amazing. I will be back and be bringing more than just my partner in tow. Plus perfect Gulab jamuns! And the service is resort style 5 star level. Bravo to the management, the serving staff and kitchen!
Anish and his family have made this restaurant the finest of its type, in Ottawa. The food is delicious and of incomparable quality and the service is second-to-none. 20 years of dining here have made me a loyal patron. The East India Company has no peer!
Its just ok.relatively good for Ottawa but its pretty expensive, I always go in with higher expectations than what I know I will receive. I have been a few times but more because Ottawa has such a lack of good Indian food options than because its actually that great.
I have visited several times and enjoyed the buffet very much. The food is tasty and the buffet is varied. If I reviewed by food alone I'd give four stars. However, a restaurant is more than the food it serves. The service here is middling at the best of times and downright atrocious at the worst.
My most recent experience and possibly my last was a visit for the dinner buffet on a Sunday night. The restaurant was unusually busy, and if I had known I would have made a reservation but I've never seen the place more than half full. I arrived with my wife and son and a server told us she would be with us shortly after getting a table ready for another customer. We waited at the door along with that customer and a growing line of groups. Five minutes passed, then ten, with no sign of her again and no other staff checking on the door.
Eventually another waitress came out and asked if we had a reservation. No, we said. "Oh, I can't help then", she replied. The man who had been waiting for the first server to get his take ready was ignored and went to stay himself. We waited another five minutes before the original server came back and asked if anyone had spoken to us yet and if we had a reservation. Again we said no, we didn't have one. Off she went in to the dining room to look around.
All this time the line of waiting customers was growing. These people DID have reservations but had been waiting upwards of ten minutes to speak to any staff at all. A minute or two went by before the server came back and announced that no, she didn't have any tables for us and couldn't get us one tonight. No apology for the wait. No explanation.
I don't expect a full booked restaurant to offer a table to a walk in but I do expect that they won't make customers wait a quarter of an hour to be spoken to. It was frustrating for us, but I imagine more aggravating for those who had made reservations and stood around waiting while their tables sat empty and staff ignored them.
The restaurant is understaffed when it's busy, but the staff don't move any faster or slower, the lines just grow longer. It's really too bad because the food is very good.
We ate there for dinner - the buffet was great, the food was of good quality and good variety as well. The staff was extremely professionnal and eager to please. Great job, would go there again!
Best Indian food ever! I recommend the buffet to taste all the different food. Excellent service. Parking around. They have a terrase too. The sea food was great.
