Delicious authentic Mexican tacos. Friendly service, very clean space, lots of good options. Would recommend!

I was looking for Nachos al pastor but I had to choose tacos, I had to order more tacos, 5 weren’t enough to me, I was too hungry

Tacos are great. The al pastor are my fave, very authentic, the lengua tacos are also good. Service is not the greatest because the servers aren't the friendliest. We got the taco combo with the beans, beans were flavourless, we didn't like them at all. We came with our baby, they had no high chairs (do not expect to be accomodated if you come with a child that needs one). We also asked if we could have ONE tortilla for the baby and they said we needed to get 4 of them for $3.50 - it was for A BABY! Overall, if you want authentic mexican tacos, it's a good spot, however, don't expect the best service.

El Trompo is one of my favourite Mexican restaurants in Toronto. We have been coming here for years. Service is always friendly. Food is always amazing. And is a great excuse to wander around Kensington.

To be honest it used to be better. I've come here a number of times for the past 5 years when I've visited the city. Unfortunately the quality of the food has gone down while the prices have gone up. 'Main course' portions are very small and are the equivalent of appetizers. We had the alambres and quesadillas, and unfortunately they both could of used more flavor and were sitting in a pool of liquid. I don't know if the cooking technique has changed but it seems like there is too much liquid which makes the food soggy:/

Greetings, I was there in July 10, around lunch hour, with me and my family. The patio looked great and there were people eating. We assumed the kitchen was pushing out fresh food, however the chicken tacos were DRY! And 5 tacos are basically 2. We ordered nachos and were very boring and to much CHEESE. The cow tongue tacos were okay. Never had them before, I will leave that there. Over priced tacos.all I can say is I’m glad I went there. This way I know not to go there again like any other restaurant that is disliked weather it be for the customer service or most importantly FOOD! 1 star out of 5. A disappointment.

Beautiful little place with amazing food as well!
You can expect to pay around $10-14 for five tacos (except fish tacos) and these tacos are flavourful and pair wonderfully with their verde and rojo sauces. Drinks were pretty good as well, got a simple tamarind drink as well as a mango margarita. I was still a little hungry so I tried their Queso Fundido which is basically a plate of melted cheese with some tortillas and you can just make a little cheesy bite for yourself. Very tasty cheese, not just some regular mozzarella!

I have been coming to eat at this little but popular restaurant for many years now. The food is very much authentic, it tastes like I’m in Mexico. The staff are always friendly and the decor is pretty cool (I just need to say that it’s always a vibe). I’ve only had good experiences here and truly recommend this place to those who like Mexican food

The quality of service and food/drink were sub par relative to price and ambiance. Pork meat was found in my vegetarian dish which was dry, over salted, stale tasting to begin with, while being served on a cracked, broken plate and garnished with rotted cilantro (wilted, black). They did replace the dish, which was appreciated, but my company had already finished their meal before my new plate was brought out. The second time everything was done fresher and better but still a lacklustre plate, regrettably. To their credit, the guac and chips were very good, flavourful and fresh. The server was super warm and friendly toward my native-Spanish-speaking friend while the demeanour was very much the glaring opposite toward myself. I’ll prefer to spend my time and money where my patronage is welcomed and appreciated, so I won’t be back to El Trompo personally.

As quite a few others have mentioned, I can’t understand all the high reviews.

Authentic Mexican food, finally a place where not only the tacos are good, but also they’re not 6cad each! Very satisfied to see a near exact representation of Mexican gastronomy in the 6ix.

Bad service, via uber eats. They never completed the order and two hours later they canceled it. The food is good. But if they can't with home delivery, they shouldn't offer it.

As a Mexican living in Canada. This tacos really taste like you are in Mexico. The order arrived super fast and the service is great. And my daughter approve.

We visited this place couple of times. Foods doesn't taste good as expected. Not worth it given the expectations.

The server grabbed my half full beer when I paid the bill. Didnt even ask if I was finished. I was not! She was eager to just take everything off my table

Food was good priced and tasted ok.

Service was blazing fast and prices for the dishes are affordable. The tacos Al Pastor and Bistec were tasty as well as the Chicken Quesadilla.

Love it very much! We keep coming back to this little restaurant. Friendly staff, casual prices and tasteful dishes. Lovely spot for lunch if you are @ Kensington market.

A nice and cozy patio in Kensington. Customer service is great but food/alcohol portions are a little on the pricy side for the area.

I checked out the patio during the evening and during my visit they had a band playing live music, it made the patio experience so much better. Tacos were pretty tasty too. Coronas are $8.75

El Trompo is in my Top 5 taco spots in Toronto hands down. Anytime I visit Kensington market I’m sure to stop by and have a bite to eat. They have vegan tacos also which is great versatility-wise. Service is very friendly 9 out of 10 times. Reasonably priced. The Caesar (alcoholic beverage) can be very pungent, would avoid unless that’s your preference. They offer Live music sometimes as well which sets a nice energy!

Tried a few different tacos and I must say I wasn't that impressed. Aside the fish I was actually pretty disappointed. Needs better dressings imo.

Average at best. Not bad but won't blow you away. I personally wasn't a fan of the flavours but that isn't to say they weren't good.

Spicy chicken tacos were bland and runny, made the taco soggy and fall apart. Also felt like the order was rushed and thrown together too quickly, wouldve liked the tacos to be toasted better and the chicken more flavourful.

Great place, amazing service from the owner (she is so sweet and nice) and delicious flavour, plus the prices are awesome! Gracias Trompo

Got the Tacos Al Pastor and the Chicharron de Queso. The tacos were very flavourful but dry and the portion size wasn't worth the price (it says you get five but they're mini tacos). I liked the Chicharron though.

We went to this spot because it had some good reviews but regret going and will never go back. The tacos lack flavour and the sauces they provide on the table do not help with this. $1 tacos at Latin World are better than these! The pico de Gallo with chips wasn't any better either.

I will add that the service at this place is really fast so don't expect to be able to stay here long. The lady serving us rushed us and did not bother checking up to see if we needed anything or fill our glasses of water. She messed up our order by giving us one set of the wrong tacos (which we realized after trying one), and when she took the plate and brought back the correct tacos she gave us with one less taco! I found this ridiculous since she messed up our order but at this point I did not care enough to comment.

Honestly I am surprised with the people that left good reviews for this place. But I have noticed this happen with some restaurants and wonder if these people just don't know GOOD Mexican food! Stay clear of this place if you are looking for authentic Mexican food. There are lots of good Mexican options in Toronto and this just isn't one.

Tacos here are not that good, traditional water is not good. Dishonest people (cashier). NEVER COMING BACK.

Just fantastic. Fantastic flavour matched to fantastic service. Chorizo tacos blew us a way with the execution and portion size.

Greatest Margaritas I've ever had in my life Costco's in the clock are fabulous. The staff there is second to none. I couldn't recommend a place more highly it's a lot of fun every time I go

Delicious place with friendly staff. The tacos were flavour and the spicy sauces where very good. The size of the portions are smaller compare to mexican tacos in US. The prices are normal.

We went down to Kensington market to see the sights and check out some restaurants and we ended up stopping at El Tompo to get some tacos, chorizo queso and beer. Nice little spot, good tacos.

I asked the server if I could substitute tortillas with lettuce and she looked at me like I was crazy. She told me they only use the lettuce for salad. Didn't realize it was that difficult to sub. Then I asked for a shot and received a half shot. If you want bad service with half shots for full price, come here

The tacos are pretty good. I heard my Mexican boyfriend say its authentic. They have the best guacamole in my life.

I'm Mexican and I certify that these are the best tacos in Toronto if not Canada and for the best price. Stop supporting corporations that mistreat their employees like MuchoBurrito, Taco Bell and Chipotle and support locals with a dream

Delicious food, cozy atmosphere and a quaint place.
Like most places in Kensington, it can be tricky to spot but it is totally worth the look

It's a nice little place. Watch out for their Cesar's. They've got a kick I can only describe as esophagus melting

Menu has expanded since my last visit, but the tacos are still the same amazing tacos as always. El Pastor is a house speciality but I'm partial to the Cochinita Pibil too. Guac is super tasty, but come back on the weekend for the pozoloes!

I'm curious to know how low the other reviewers' standards are to solicit 4 and 5 star rating for this place. The guacamole was synthetic and this weird neon green, the tacos were bland and sad, and I could smell the washroom that's in the basement from the main floor dining area. My partner's whose favourite is Mexican, said this is the worst Mexican place he's ever been to.

Authentic Mexican place with a good variety of Tacos to choose from. The price is right for $10 or less for 5 small soft tacos except for the fish that has only 2 tacos. The guacamole is freshly made and satifies.

I tried their Al Pastor tacos and they were very delicious, nice contrast of flavour. The hot and mild sauces complimented the tacos very well. The lady there was very friendly and welcoming, as well as the waitress and cook. I would definitely come back, I like the family atmosphere in the restaurant. I also like the Buddha statue they have on top of the fridge.

My family and I went for lunch twice @ El Trompo restaurant located in Kensington Market; we stayed a few days in TO for vacation and wanted to try some authentic Mexican food, and voila! We found the right place.

We tried Tacos al Pastor, pork meat marinated with a special sauce topped with chopped pineapple, onions and coriander; Tacos de Bistec, grilled steak topped with a bit of chopped onions and coriander and a side order of refried beans garnished with cheese. Everything was delicious, Tacos were so good that we returned next day for more tacos.

The place itself is quite simple and small, just like an authentic Taqueria in Mexico; the service is good and the staff is very friendly and efficient.

On our next visit to TO we definitely be back.

Very homey place with great selection of soft tacos. Been here several times and tried all the tacos and they all taste different but all delicious. Favorite is the fish taco at $5.50 each.

Nice little Mexican place in Kensington. I liked the guacamole and chips as well as the fish taco, but was a bit disappointed by their specialty "Al Pastor". Affordable tacos but not the most tasty in Toronto.

Cute little restaurant. The ingredients tasted fresh and the portions were nice, but I wish they could have more spices to enrich the taste. The tacos are quite bland and the tortilla in one of the three plates of tacos we got were a little soggy at the bottom so the fillings fell out when picked up. A good place for fast Mexican food, but not somewhere I would take a good friend or date to.

Amazing little restaurant with outstanding affordable food. Very good and authentic mexican dishes and drinks (e.g. Michelada). Definitely worth a visit. Sometimes the card machine doesn't work, so bring some cash.

Really liked it, good taste really good, but compared to other places is a little expensive, staff is really nice, the restaurant is well located and they have a good variety on the menu from breakfasts and lunch to good dinners

Place is small. But who cares when the food is so good! Oh man the food here is delicious. My husband is Latino and loves the food here. Will definately come back
