Elm Street Italian Deli

Came to the deli to pick up a sandwich for lunch. It was our first time, and we asked the store manager for his suggestion. We ended up picking up the Sammy Davis Junior which is filled with pastrami and pickles. We were between a few different sandwiches, and when we were picking up our order, we were actually also given a medium sized Sammy the Ham to try for free! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bread was crispy on the outside like your classic sandwich bread and the filling was tasty but the portion could have been more generous. We are curious about the other flavours and would return to try the others.

The sandwiches are a good size and of very good quality, the local gets busy quickly, honestly one of my favorite sandwich places.

Sandwich is good. However, I came during a busy time (lunch time on a Tuesday) and waited 30 minutes for my order. They're juggling online orders on top of orders placed at the counter. The long wait soured my experience as I couldn't make sense of waiting that long for a sandwich ever. Order online for pick up if you know what you're getting.

Had the Elm Street Don and it was delicious, really hit the craving I had for a great sub that day!

If you’re a fan of bobs burgers, give this spot a visit! The sandwiches are truly incredible. Creative names for everything on the menu adds to the atmosphere of the restaurant. Not too big so I wouldn’t plan to eat there (you can but be prepared to stand). This is a must eat spot.

I wanted this to be my next go-to lunch spot, but my experience didn’t prove that. I ordered the half Don, Sammy the Ham, and an Elm Green Salad. Both the sandwiches were tasty, but the salad was awful. The cucumbers were disintegrating and slimy—like the salad was a few days past expiry date. I’m disappointed and really wanted Elm Street Italian Deli to be a home run, but it sadly was not.

Disastrous customer service. Took 90mins to make a sandwich after loosing the order, twice. Gave me a voucher for a free sandwich next time and now has completely reneged on honoring the comp'ed receipt.

Wow excellent sandwich loads of toppings not cheap on the meat.bun melts in your mouth.definitely will go there again

Had to leave the 5 stars because the Sergio Leone (braised beef sub) is incredibly delicious, and the service is great, very kind workers. They've found themselves a new regular.

Got the large il capo for $16 while it’s a bit pricey for a sandwich - for the size and quality it’s well worth it. Would definitely return

I want to love this place so I’m going to give it a second chance but the meatball sub was incredibly salty. Don’t get me wrong, I love salt but it was so excessive that it was inedible (and I eat everything regardless). I did my best to finish it but couldn’t. If there was less salt, I know it would taste good

Echoing some of the other comments here. This place used to be great but since they changed their bread and size to medium only, it's no longer good. The meat portions are a lot less too. I could not taste the meat through the bread on the last order. Sadly, this seems to be a widespread post covid thing. Higher prices with smaller portions.

Used to order at least twice a week when they had the full size and were generous with the meat. But have since changed the bread and charge more for it. Would not recommend anymore.

Strickly a take out sandwich joint. Lots of good sandwiches to chose from. There is a counter to stand at but no chairs to sit on and they do not handle cash. Cards only. The sandwiches are good and tasty. Enjoy.

Used to be the best sandwich joint in the city until they switched the bread. I'm hoping they switch back.

These have been my favourite sandwiches for over a year now… but very disappointed that they changed their bread recently and now can only order a half size… not a real sub size. They traded in amazing bread for semi-stale grocery store bakery bread… awful! Why?

The flavour was good but the amount of filling you get is dismal compared to other similarly-priced subs (think Grandma Love You or Lambo's Deli).

It's a nice little low key location. Prices are about 30% higher than what you would expect at a franchise sandwich shop. The bread and the ingredients were fresh. Flavour wasn't as much as I had expected considering the price for a six inch for 11$ the "Tony In Da Club". It's worth trying in my opinion but don't expect anything spectacular.

Some of the best Italian-style deli sandwiches I’ve ever had. I’ve been enough times to try the majority of the menu; the Tony Tacchino and the Sammy Davis Jr.are two favourites I continue returning to. It’s good bang for your buck, too; a large is almost big enough for two separate meals.

Got the La Regina sangweech: the veggies were decent, but the bread was too hard.
Mixed bean salad was good.
Bomba hot sauce was quite good.

Pretty okay sandwiches. The restaurant is cute and has fun names on the menu. The decor is like an old deli spot with a twist. Tried the Sammy Davis Jr (pastrami) and the Paulie Porco (pork shoulder) which were okay but the pastrami was a little bland and the pork shoulder was really salty. Might come back to try some of the other sandwiches.

I've been once she had the Sammy Davis Jr full. It was a great sandwich with just the perfect amount of pastrami, in my opinion - not piled super high. At first glance, I thought the full sized sando would be too much, but actually it was just right. The online order was great and my order was ready right on time.

Oh yeah, work near by have eaten four different sandwiches off the menu and plan on finishing it. Toronto prices for a sandwich but top quality ingredients and delicious to boot. Friendly folk too

Very poor. The "roasted eggplant" was not roasted, but deep fried, and hard as cardboard at the edges. The bread on both sandwiches was stale, especially the bottom half. With so much more bread than filling the sandwich filling looked like a stain between walls of white. The iceberg lettuce was soggy to the point of being wet. Both drinks, "Brio" were warm. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Very Disappointing, Tried first bite and could not even take a bite. Meat cut wrong way so very tough, bun was hard and very spicy. Daughters was very hard but was a little more edible.

Fantastic sandwiches. I had the Sergio Leone and it was delicious. They're really big, so I would go for a half sandwich unless you are super hungry.

I love Elm Street Deli. The sandwiches are perfection, (especially the Tony Tacchino!), but on days I don't feel like a filling sandwich, mixing their green salad and chickpea salad is also SO GOOD!

Bread was hard and the toppings weren't fresh, ended up throwing out half of the sandwich. For this they charge $15, what a joke. I can't believe this place has the rating it does. Save your money and go to one of the many other better and cheaper sandwich shops in the city.

I tried the Tommy Gunn, which is essentially an italian sausage on a bun. I wasn't particulary in love with the dijon mustard and felt the toppings could have more lustre, for the price, however I am very much looking forward to my next visit where I will try a good ol' cold cut.can't go wrong.

Ordered half Sergio Leone, a braised beef sandwich. Very tasty. The beef is tender and juicy. Also love the roasted red pepper and cheese on top. The portion is huge, half size is more than enough for a meal. Next time I will try Tommy Gunn.

Ordered the Roast beef sandwich. Terrible, tasteless, wilted ice berg? Why ice berg? Flavourless. Lacklustre. Really disappointed and overpriced. Bread was stale.

The friendliest service in the city, and very fresh salads! I work close by and order from Elm St Deli on Ritual a couple times a week - they never disappoint!

The best sandwiches in the city! It really is an authentic Italian Sangweech shop! From the people in the shop to the amazing sandwiches that you leave with! Highly recommend a visit! You wont be disappointed! Ask for the "Sammy on Shroomz" its an off menu gem!

Ordered a few " Sangweeches" today, and I must say they were delicious! They were also super accommodating in preparing a "diet" friendly meal with their amazing artichoke salad and adding a side order of sausage for me. Will definitely return, everything was very fresh!

First off, I like to consider myself a sandwich connoisseur. There is something so simple yet at the same time magical with a well put together sandwich. Elm St Italian Deli is hands down one of the best sandwich places I have ever had the pleasure of eating at. If you already were thinking about biting into a perfect combination of meats, cheeses and in house made sauces on top of a perfectly baked slice of bread, stop reading and go now. They use simple ingredients to bring together a complex flavor that is utterly irresistible. I will be eating every item on the menu. 3 down and no complaints about anything. Must try.

Had a Don of Elm street first. Fresh baked roll, loaded with meats, cheese! Delish. Then had a single WOPer, super tasty. Salted patty but the marinara gave it a sweet touch. Patty was made with brisket which is step above most meat for a burger.

Ordered the pauly sandwich. Overall it was ok but nothing stood out about it. The bread was good but the sandwich was not hot. Not the most authentic Italian spot.

Amazing sandwiches - the bread is superb and the ingredient combinations for each sub are very unique. A great lunch spot.

This place is freaking delicious. I've been here several times; the staff is great and they always have the freshest food!

I can't say enough about how good the food is here. The quality of the ingredients is apparent from the first bite all the way through to the end. Got a full-sized Don of Elm St.and am very glad that I did. Definitely going to try and eat my way through the menu this spring/summer, and I encourage others to give it a shot as well.

Easy 5 out of 5. The brisket Don whatever sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had in Toronto. They just signed a regular.

Meats and condiments are terrific in virtually every sandwich. I've been able to try 6 different kinds, and they're all gems. Really carefully constructed, from concept to final product. The owner is friendly and patient, and happy to engage with customers.

Only reasonfor the -1 star is because the last time I ordered, the bread was cold, not room temp, like the bread was frozen then not completely thawed.

My favourite sandwich shop in the city, just so obsessed with the quality and care put into every sandwich.

This restaurant had a soft opening on 2020-02-10. The owner is the same owner of Cherry Street Bar-B-Que. The meats are all BBQ slow cooked Texas style on a wood fire and chopped up at Cherry Street BBQ.

The breads are rolled and proof-baked and put in the fridge over night. In the morning, roll it out and let it cool down, for a total 2-day process. It has the right crunchiness.

They have cold and hot sandwiches, some fresh pasta dishes and 5 different salads.

I love the "Sergio Leone" which is made with Tuscan braised beef (like brisket). It has a hint of hot mustard giving it a slight kick. There is sweet provolone cheese at the bottom. There is also garlic, rapini, roasted red peppers, and Giardineria aioli. Then they add some jus and fat drippings. Smokiness is from the drippings like Tuscan beef. It is extremely juicy. I love it!

I also love "The WOPer" which is a Smash Burger made of USDA prime ground brisket. They put on a house marinara sauce, sweet provolone, pickled vegetables, lettuce, basil, and tomato. This is also yummy! I guess I love their brisket!

I also had their "Three Bean Salad". It has chickpeas, barlotti beans, butter beans. Also yummy.

Overall, the quality of their meats and bread are excellent. It is a little on the pricier side but you pay for quality! They do offer their sandwiches in half size ($7.00 to $8.50) and full size ($9.95 to $15.95).

I highly recommend this restaurant and will come back to try other items.

They have free WiFi. Since this is mostly a takeout place, there are no chairs or tables but there is a counter where you can stand to eat if you so wish.

Absolutely loved this spot. Can’t beat the sandwiches here but you want a real treat, order the burger

A beautiful day in the city to eat outdoors, and have delicious deli sandwich. Elm Street Bakery features freshly baked bread, and even salads on the side. Kudos to this shop for not changing anything inside this place, and that the sandwiches are made in front of customers. The place doesn't have any sitting, but have this gorgeous marble ledge to take pictures of your sandwich. I also the fast service this place has so whenever you're in a rush. You can order a sandwich, and be out of door within 5 minutes.

I ordered the IL Cappo which had a generous amount of medium rare roast beef.the texture of that meat was unbelievable. Then, you had this incredible slices of provolone cheese that was just sticking out with a delicious Muffaletta spread, and Basil Alioli.

Artichoke Salad was light, and love the amount of artichoke they offer.the vinaigrette was simple, but the main ingredient was just amazing.

I usually boycott sandwich restaurants because they're so easy to make at home but this place redefines the sammie! They use such fresh ingredients, with generous portions - true mom and pop vibe!

So happy to have discovered this place! Great deli with delicious sandwiches. Partner and I will definitely be back and look forward to working our way through the menu. Bread is baked fresh daily and sandwiches are bursting with flavour and quality ingredients. If you’re lucky enough to chat with the owner, you’ll find he is super friendly and passionate about the food. Wonderful addition to the neighbourhood.

I almost don't want to write this review out of pure selfishness, but I think this place will get discovered by the masses anyway. The amount of care put into all the food here is unparalleled. Everything is essentially made in-house, and in addition to the food being delicious, Lawrence and his team are the loveliest humans. You will 100% find me here minimum once a week.
