Embrun Your Independent Grocer

Small town huge prices. Even more pricer than other Independent locations throughout Ottawa region. Location is only 5-6 mins off HWY 417 East and on route to Ottawa or Montreal so it’s not off the beaten path to justify its high prices for trucking items in. Cooked packaged food on site is sometimes not fresh. Tropical fruits are sometimes spoil, pay attention. Layout and self service has been updated and is great. 2 stars because I’ve been living in the area since 2018 and haven’t seen much improvement other than upgrades to the store.

Not good to put online that Dec 23rd store hours 7-7 but when clients show up they get turned away rudely by staff that hours are 8-7

There's almost no reason to go here. The store is nice, clean and well stocked, but the prices are absolutely absurd. Even their "sale" items are often 1-2$ more expensive than other places regular price.

We had received an offer of 30$ in points if spending 100$ or more for pick up. It was still significantly cheaper to go elsewhere even factoring in the points.

Closes at 7pm on a Saturday… always has low stock of meats and stuff? Cashiers can be cranky sometimes too. It’s a weird store.

There isn’t much competition for this store so for certain items that I like to purchase it’s the only option. It’s quite expensive and it seems like every week when I go in prices are increasing.

The peanut butter I like just went up another $2 for the regular size jar. It’s cheaper on Amazon so that’s where I’ll be getting it from now on. If you want people to shop locally you need to keep your prices more competitive. Otherwise people will shop elsewhere - online or in the city. Ottawa isn’t that far to drive if it means saving money on food or actually finding the products you want.

Produce is okay though they never seem to have a good stock of berries when I go in. They either don’t have any at all or often the organic ones are all they have. They stopped carrying this excellent brand of blueberries I got there last year which is a shame.

They also haven’t gotten any new stock of our favourite ice cream, which really sucks. It’s expensive but I’ll buy it because we love it so much. It’s called Grammys Cupboard by Shaws Ice Cream - please bring it back!

Walk into this store and you can easily forget that you are in a smaller outlying part of Ottawa.

With a great selection of groceries and other goods, YIG is a simple destination for many domestic needs.

Prices track with the atmosphere, so do come prepared to see a little sticker shock beyond the all too common "COVID pricing / inflation" still being touted years after the true event. This is the one major shame for a big chain like this. -1 star for gouging:) otherwise it would be a solid 5 from me.

Store is fine but being part of Loblaws you are going to over pay for most items. They also will increase banded products prices to encourage you to buy No Name.

Good grocery store but quite expensive.

Had 2 gift cards from 5 years ago that they will no honor claiming "haven't seen those in a while.you need to activate it". I did that twice. Still wouldn't honor it because the manager was "too busy" - his words, not mine.

Good stock however severely lacking in gluten free goods. We only use this store as a last resort.

Would be nice if they carried more No Name products. Prices are too high here, but they are the only proper grocery store in town, so I guess they can gouge

Brought my 3 year old in to pick out a birthday cake. Found out that the bakery is giving away cookies again to the kids. The service was great. I always love talking to the staff.

Not getting a great review today. Improperly charged for produce and when tried to get product for free since the price I was charged was not what was annonced i was told no. Not sure title of who was called but very unsympathic to the fact an error was made and the time taken to recover the money for the item. Client service, where are you?

Shout out to the PC Express staff! They brought my groceries to car, noticed the milk bag was broken and ran to get me a new one. Thank you for that. The PC Express folks have been providing some great service lately on all my orders. Appreciated.

Wow what a service! My Wife and I have older kids and decided to do a thanksgiving dinner at the last minute since kids became available. My spouse called the meat department and the guy whom helped us looked for unfrozen turkey, found one, put in on hold for us and drove to get it within 30mins. Upon getting there my wife said she was here to pickup the turkey and the guy said: "Oh yeah, the turkey lady! Yup got it be right back! "

Now this my friends is what we call customer service! We do not have this anymore since ppl feel now they are entitled to everything and should be given to them now of days, well news for you young kids, not how it works sadly!

Large store with variety. Super friendly staff clean with a drug store. Kinda everything you need in one stop.

I would of given 5 stars except the lady at the Meals to go counter was in a bad mood and could not speak a word of French. I also deducted a star because they could not serve fries or wedges and there was no signs to indicate they could not serve any.

We like this store. Great fruit and veg department. Lots of dairy free foods. Clean and well managed

Avoid this place at all costs especially if you're doing a grocery pick. Many times have we ordered food for pick and informed them to use our points as a payment but they never do and we end up paying for it ourselfs. They make mistakes with our order all the time. The convenience of this store is the grocery pick up but they managed to mess that up. Terrible customer service and the managers dont care when you complain. I would give a zero if i could.

Very pricey and their produce isn't great. Some helpful staff but most of the time I ask for help they look at me and say "I don't know" with a blank stare instead of asking someone else. I've always found customer service to be lacking.

$7 chicken sandwich with a side is a great lunch! But if you are looking for a healthy salad the salads are way oversized for just one person to eat for lunch and most of the guys on the job site just end up throwing out what they cant finish.

PC express is extremely unreliable at the Embrun YIG location. Been using PC Express since covid started, only when absolutely needed. I always try to give them the benefit of the doubt (Covid, weekend rushs. Etc) as to why orders are constantly incomplete, late, or in today's (Monday AM) case: non existant. Don't worry though, after giving your order to somebody else, they'll just insist on you staying put while they call the other person back. With a screaming, sick child in the back seat (30min+ wait time), you ask for a refund "We will see what we can do, bye *click*". Really shouldn't have to call in for a manager to get something like this addressed. Oh, and when the refund finally came, it came in the form of cash while we paid by credit card. Not kosher from when I worked in retail.

Also, it's weird to have employees tell you to take and accept groceries that went home with a complete stranger.

Thanks for wasting our time, we were just sick, now we're sick and hungry.

Great selection, but on the expensive side of things. They really take advantage of being the only grocery store in town (for now)

They have made a beautiful more organized store! Looks beautiful! Service is always a pleasure. Prices are very very high though

I will only shop there if I have to for necessities or if something is on sale. The prices are ridiculously high so I drive to Ottawa/Orleans and I still save money.

Bought bread on 01 April and expiry date was 14 April but bread was not fresh. This second time has happened.

The store is doing some modernization now but should be finished soon. Can't wait to see what's new.

Insane prices other than the stuff on sale. Not a fan. My jaw literally drops when I see anyone with a full cart. You rich my guy?

Small enough for that personal touch, but large enough to provide decent selection at competitive prices. However, slightly more expensive than the larger city stores and no delivery service - just PC Express Pick-up.

Below average grocery store compared to other Independent Grocer in Ottawa. Missing or poor quality produce, limited organics, meat past date, milk & cheeses past date, mediocre customer service, long waiting lines.

Clean store. Not too large that it takes hours to get through all the aisles, but large enough to have reasonable selection and competitive pricing. That said, theY ate not the cheapest store out there.

Features in-store bakery, meals to go, on-site butcher, deli, and fish monger as well as a pharmacy.

Most of the employees here have very poor attitudes (especially the rude cashier at Cash 5 at approximately 5pm on Wednesday July 7th). If you don’t like your job or don’t like people you need to find different avenue of employment.

Solidly good local grocer, better prices and selection than Foodland. Easily could be 5 star if maintained better stock of chicken wings.

I used the pharmacy for my 2nd vaccination. It was easy, professional, friendly and safe. I highly recommend this pharmacy.

Ok.hate the produce section. Nothing is ever available and they go bad extremely fast.not sure what is better nofrill, food basic or embrum independant produce section.

Everything else is great

Good store, good people. Very French. 80 percent are francophone with OK English. The odd pertain has a difficult time speaking English, which is weird because the area is locate in Ontario, near Ottawa.
The odd time, when they speak to you in French and you reply in English, you get that impression that they are not happy. Just weird to have people talk to you in French first in Ontario (yes, I know this is a French settlement, but that was over a century ago.).

The selection is pretty good, and they supply local items (eggs, cheese). I just wish they would seek the St. Albert's salted butter: it is by far the best butter I've ever tried.

Worst grocery store ever! The only good there is the pharmacy. Went in to buy one item and they made me wait 20 min! Open at least one cash for express 1-8 items especially for the Christmas season.

No limit, but manager said had limit. They are powerful. Please open notification didn't welcome for business and I don't go anymore.

Selection is good, however customer service is lacking. Waited to be served while cashier chatted with a coworker while looking at pictures on cell phone. I've experienced this on multiple occasions.

Reasonable place.little limited selection for meat.a few things are not where you think they are but its reasonably priced on many staples even if other things are a bit more.

So clean and friendly, totally respecting all social distancing, very safe. Always an abundance of fresh produce and great deals

Could typically use to have more checkouts open. Hasn't been a reliable stop for paper products since March. Usually empty on a few kinds of produce. There are lots of other stores in the area to stop at.

Yesterday Saturday 31 October my husband & I visited the Embrun Independent Pharmacy for our annual flu shot.the Pharmacist was so efficient and pleasant.upon our initial call to inquire regarding having our injection scheduled the staff was so helpful and informative as well.great experience and felt really comfortable with protections taken regarding Covid for the clients. In early COVID I bought 6 shrubs but by accident I go the wrong variety. I wanted to exchange for another variety of the same shrub but due to COVID policies there were no returns at the time. I was told that once the store was accepting returns I would be able to return them, but to keep watering them so that they didn't die. I ended up buying the correct variety of shrub from the Independent in the meantime. I diligently watered the shrubs and kept them in great condition until the store would accept returns. Today I tried to return the shrubs and I was told by a very unfriendly manager that they would not accept returns on plants unless they were dead. How does that make any sense? !? !? I told her that I could stop watering them and they will die and then I will be returning them, and she said "I know who you are", implying that she won't allow ME to return dead plants, but anyone else would be allowed to. Totally ludicrous. I will try and avoid this store if possible from now on because of this (lack of) service.

I was not very impressed. I did curbside pickup they told me they did not have around 10 things on my list in stock. I went in and they had everything they said they did not have.

Good selection of products, clean store and friendly staff. This was my first time shopping there, but it certainly won't be my last.

Very rude staff. The cashier threw bottles of San Pellegrino at me and overcharged me for several items. They don't respect the stated pricing and won't correct their errors. Please check your bill before leaving!

Second and last time visiting the store. Besides prices being slightly inflated vs other stores, they really are not helping their customers during this pandemic. I understand the need to restrict quantities on items due to supply chain. However, if you are only supposed to go out once a week for groceries, there is no way that I can feed a family of 5 on 8 pieces of chicken. The limit of 2 meat products should be by type ei 2 packs of chicken breast, 2 packs of thighs, 2 packs of ground beef, etc not 2 packs of any chicken product or beef or pork product.
They are literally forcing you to go out every day or store hop, increasing the chances of you getting sick.
Staff and management should be more understanding.
Now I need to figure out how I'm gonna feed my family of 5 on 8 pieces of chicken for the week or take all three kids out shopping with me (definitely not at Independent) and put us all at greater risk.

Need an other store in this town. There's always something missing and 2 cashes open with people lined up down allies? Worst store I've been to.

I had to return fresh chicken wings to the store as they had gone bad. They went bad 2 days before the best before date and I returned them on the best before date as that was the earliest I could return to the store. This was on January 8th 2020. The lady in the smoke shop called a meat clerk who was very rude in his questioning of me. He said, "how am I supposed to know when they went bad? " I told him they were supposed to be good until today. I told him I shopped at the Embrun Yig every week and i showed him my bill that I had just spent $216.00 in their store on January 3rd. He replied, from the meat dept? He was very condescending and did not show an ounce of professionalism. All this for a $10.00 pack of wings. It's not like he is paying for them. I only moved to Embrun in April 2019, and have shopped at this store 2 or 3 times a week since then, however I will now trek into Orleans to shop from now on. They probably don't care, but they should remember that one customer with a bad experience spreads fast. It is very bad advertising to treat a customer in this way. Basically calling me a liar. I was in the store around 420pm on January 8th. I will be forwarding this review to National Grocers as well.

Lovely staff treated groceries with care and me with respect. The prices were more than decent. The overall selection was great. The experience at Your Independent Grocer CO-OP Embrun was fantastic.

New ownership, prices have been raised but the quality remains low. They've also removed a lot of no name brands (the cheaper stuff) to force clients to have to purchase the more expensive.

Not going there anymore unless we absolutely have to.and even there, we decided last weekend to not bother going there and simply do without an item.

Very disappointing that the new owner has decided to take advantage of the fact there is no other grocery store in the area.

I understand the Embrun is a French community. It's a super community. However as visitors to the area we do not speak or read French. The notices were in French with no English. Not very welcoming.

I'm here on a Sunday morning at 10am. Minimum wait in line is 10-15min even for 1-12items. Workers seem slow and we got a worker outside for plants when half of the cashier's inside are open. They are missing workforce. Really frustrating when you depend on a store because of location and to the fact we live in the country and have no choice.

Went in to pick up a few things.one of which was a ready to eat fruit tray. I realized the day after I had served this to my friends that the strawberries, while cut, were NOT washed! Disappointed big time on such a thing to overlook, especially since all they had been cut along with the other fruit in the tray.bad form!

I love going to this store; I've gotten to know a lot of their nice staff since moving here 5 years ago. I've probably memorized half their names! Small town service is awesome!

Love to shop there for specials like steaks but the Chicken and wedges special for $5 including 2 pieces of chicken cooked right there on the spot is an Excellent choice. I now prefer this over the so called famous chicken that I believed no one could match.

The store is usually clean, and produce is fresh and well stocked. Some of the prices have gotten a bit rediculous. Products they carried for years they suddenly replace with store brands. Staff seem disgruntled.

This grocery store is living in the 1900's.get with it people. Number 1, bread is hardly ever fresh, and most times shelves are half empty. Number 2 some vegetables are often not fresh (kale) and or not even available, same goes for milk and forget about fresh organic avocados, they are left on the shelves rotten for days.not to mention organic almond flour and other organic items that are often out of stock. I have never been so frustrated shopping for groceries. If the shelves are empty its because people are buying, order adequately. Management needs major overhaul. Go to farmboy and get some insight into how to run a grocery store efficiently please!
