We recently adopted a new fur family member from EHS. The volunteer took time to show us around. They work very hard to take good care of the animals in their facility. I would recommend adopting from EHS.

I have had two great experiences at the EHS. I adopted my first cat Eva there 5 years ago. I came back a few months ago after Eva passed away. The staff were so friendly and willing to help, they even remembered me and Eva from last time! I started fostering a cat and was so impressed with the amount of communication and care for the cats. I had multiple vet appointments to take my foster cat to and it was scheduled and coordinated for me. Ordering and picking up supplies was very easy, the staff really do care! It is all run by volunteers so there can be some delays but that is totally understandable seeing all that they do the attention given to each cat.

They have zero interest in placing cats in good homes. Obviously I don't want to say dont use this organization as it's best to save a cat than leave it in a shelter. But you've been warned.

We had the most wonderful experience at the Etobicoke Humane Society (EHS) while searching for a new feline friend to welcome into our family. From the moment we walked in, it was evident that the EHS is truly dedicated to the welfare of their animals. The volunteers were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly warm and welcoming. They took the time to answer all our questions and went above and beyond to ensure we got to know each cat, helping us make a well-informed decision about our future feline companion.

One of the standout features of EHS is their spacious kennel cages. It's evident that they prioritize the comfort and well-being of their animals. The larger cages allow the cats to move around and stretch comfortably, which is essential for their physical and emotional health. Moreover, the fact that they encouraged us to come back and spend time with the cats we were interested in before making a decision demonstrated their commitment to ensuring a great match between pets and their potential owners. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for this outstanding organization, and we look forward to making our final choice knowing we have the support and resources of EHS behind us.

Applied to adopt a dog from here and no one answered my application. The dog was adopted by someone else. Unprofessional.

We've adopted twice from the Etobicoke Humane Society, and both times were a great experience. We love how they truly care about the animals and have a robust interview process to make sure you're the right fit. They also take care of so much—from spaying to vaccines—that makes it super straightforward when adding a new addition to your home. Would 100% recommend and if we ever decide to add another kitten to the mix, we'll be back.

Unbelievably strict adoption process. As an experienced long term caretaker of a medically ill indoor cat (very expensive) I was surprised to be rejected due to minor details like opinions on food choices and a imperfect vaccination record.

Your shelter is filled with animals from owners who abandoned them when it wasn't convenient, yet deny someone who has proven their long-term dedication through the good and the very bad times until the end because they weren't consistently vaccinated against diseases they'll never come into contact with as an indoor cat?

I know you mean well and want the best for the animals you adopt out but come on - talk about missing the forest for the trees.

The only redeemable part of the whole experience was Fiona, their adoption coordinator, who was a joy to work with.

EHS is a volunteer-run and no kill shelter that takes really good care of their animals. The adoption experience was efficient yet thorough. The volunteers allowed us to come meet the cats and made sure that we were the right fit for them, and they were the right fit for us. We had 0 surprises when we took our 2 cats home because of how well they prepared us. They are happy, loved, and well taken care of which set us up for success when they came home.

What's there, NOT to love? Unfortunately, I went during Covid time, so entry was prohibited

I got a cat there, and it was such a safe and reasonable process. They definitely make sure their animals go to the right home

We are so pleased with our newly adopted cat and are so appreciative of the great lengths all the volunteers go through to match the pets under their care to the appropriate person/family.
They are beyond dedicated and I praise them all for their efforts.
It is an extremely well run shelter in my opinion and I would recommend anyone to adopt a pet from this facility.

One of the few shelters that take in animals that other shelters would put down - they really care about each and every cat and dog

I had volunteered with EHS in the past so I knew first hand how the organization worked and how much they cared for their animals. So when my wife and I decided to adopt a cat, we knew we needn't look further than EHS.

We applied for a cat in April and went through the initial screening. There was another applicant ahead of us and they ended up getting the cat. We decided to wait instead of approaching any other shelter and a couple of weeks after that we came across Flake's profile on the website. We applied right away.

Since we had been through the initial screening process, we were scheduled for a video call with the foster parent EHS supplied us with an exhaustive list of questions that we might ask to get to know Flake better.

After the video call we decided we wished to go ahead with the adoption. We then had a final interview with EHS that lasted for almost an hour and a half. Finally our application was approved and we were able to welcome Flake to our family!

All in all, it was an absolutely fantastic experience with EHS. The process was rather comprehensive and required us to provide a lot of information but that just goes to show that EHS really cares about finding the right home for every animal in their care

I applied 2 seperate times and they emailed saying it will be a longer wait to get interviewed, but I waited. I got an email saying the 1st time the kitten was adopted and the second I had an interview and they said no because I said I had taken my previous cat out to stand with a leash on to look at the backyard. I emailed 3 seperate emails with no response back mentioning that if they just told me thats not recommended to do so, I wouldn't.this cat I wanted is still up for adoption and its been over 2 months, with no response to any emails. Its ridiculous and I suggest not dealing with them at all, the interviewer was Jennifer and she was not helpful with anything afterwards.

Fostering a cat right now with EHS - if you're ever looking to adopt, foster or volunteer here, you'll find a group of extremely dedicated, professional folks who genuinely care about their animals and go the extra mile to make sure they are happy and get the best possible care. All supplies are provided, social distancing precautions in place, and the communication from foster coordinators is fantastic, making our first time fostering as easy and stress-free as possible. Could not recommend them enough!

A small shelter with a big heart, Etobicoke Humane Society has volunteers caring for their animals (cats & dogs) who have the animals' best interest at heart. And that's why, the adoption processes are strict, so that any animal that walks out of the care of EHS doesn't have to see another bad day in their life again. #AdoptDontShop

We had a great adoption experience with EHS. You can tell that they really care about the animals and finding the best home possible for the animals. The foster mom and all the EHS staff were helpful, supportive and made this process seamless.

Amazing place! They treat the cats with so much care, it’s easy to see they love the cat’s. My friend adopted a cat from here and said it was 10/10 service! I will be adopting from this place this week (or next) can’t wait to talk to you guys!

This is the second time applying for a kitten via EHS unfortunately no success. The first time I applied, I got no response back to my application, the second time I was told I can not get a male because my current male is not fixed yet. We plan on doing this in the coming month, I feel like they should just be more clear and vigilant with their services, and stop wasting people's time

I am VERY impressed with this rescue! We adopted Mystique a few months ago and the through the process you could see how much they care for the animals. Seems like the people who give bad reviews don't think cats and dogs deserve to be treated as valuable living things. Unlike Toronto animal services and other rescues where people just pick out cats regardless of them being a great match or not, the volunteers at EHS ensure that the cat goes to the right home. Thank you!

I was devastated by their shoddy vetting process. They came to the conclusion that I avidly take my cats outdoors (when none of them have ever walked outside not even by chance) and didn't bother to rectify their strange conclusion. I cried so hard when I received their email stating I was unfit to get a cat from them. I emailed them but I received nothing but silence. My Vet is still wondering about that too as he gave them excellent feedback and they admitted as much. All my cats are indoor cats. I lost one a few years ago to old age (I had her for 21 years) and I am presently taking care of a lovely 9 year-old with a deformed leg that I found alone outside when he was just a malnourished kitten. I waited a few years before getting another cat just to make sure my grieving was over and I wouldn't be tempted to compare the new cat to the old cat. I feel I've been gutted. I think the person who judged and sentenced me has a god complex (enjoys having power over others and telling people they can't adopt because they are not good enough). How many good people have been turned away? They never met me.one phone call with quick questions is not sufficient to judge someone.and if you make a mistake you correct it! They have deprived one of their many cats of a loving, caring, quiet home. What do they care more about? Their animals or the feeling of power they have over good-hearted people like me?

If there is one major take away about my adoption process, it's that the people at EHS truly care about the animals in their custody.

I was lucky enough to adopt Aster from the Etobicoke Human Society almost 4 weeks ago.

The interview process is very thorough (three in total), but after going through it all, I can clearly see just how committed they are to finding the right "forever home".

Not only did they make sure Aster was the right cat for me, but they made sure I was the right owner for him.

Thank you Raven, Gillian & Barb for helping me find the right match. I would highly recommend the Etobicoke Humane Society to anyone who is serious about adopting a pet.

And I think Aster would agree!

I adopted my lovely cat from here. Couldn't be more happy with the whole adopting procedure. They wanted what's best for the animals, and will not allow for adoptions to be made haphazardly.

I have mixed feelings about the adoption process at EHS.

I do beleive that they have the best intentions at play to ensure animals are not treated as disposable. However transparency would be helpful. I will say the majority of the process was uncomfortable. Setting strict requirements upfront may provide a better experience.

The video (due to COVID) meet and greet with the cats we adopted was great. Their foster mom took the time to show us how the cats interacted with people and answer our questions. This helped to ensure a good fit.

One suggestion. Maybe potential adopters could be vetted before a specific animal is even in question. Lifestyle and suggested fits could then be matched appropriately.

I felt grilled about the cost involved in taking care of cats. I shared that we had planned for the cost and that it was in our budget, I eventually talked openly about our very secure financial position which was uncomfortable as many people are not as fortunate. Cats need decent food a warm sunny spot to sleep and a good scratch behind the ears. Maybe they need to just be upfront openly tell people what they are looking for and ask for banking statements to prove it. I would have been more comfortable with that.

After signing that these cats would never set a paw outside I was and am still a little nervous. We used our backdoor for a week because there is a foyer with another door. We are using our front door again but there is always the question of where the cats are before it opens. I have also taken to scaring them whenever they show interest in the front door.

I am glad the process is over and we lucked out with the temperaments of these 2 boys.

Yes it would have been easier to buy a cat but it was worth the hoops to give these 2 adult cats a home.

We recently adopted two cats from the EHS. The process was thorough but very straightforward. They obviously care a lot about the animals under their care and want to find the best homes for them.

We definitely recommend adopting from these folks.

A great organization! We were looking to adopt a couple kittens back in August, and the amazing volunteers at EHS helped match us with two incredible, little six-moth-old brothers, now named Frank & Beans.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the process took about a week, and each person from EHS was very professional, friendly, and were truly knowledgeable about what is needed to properly take care of our new kittens. We really appreciated how thorough and patient each person was with us.

We highly recommend this organization and will try to support their hard-working volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to the well-being of the animals that are in their care.

A huge thank you to Raven, Kelly, Gillian, Tija, and the rest of the EHS family for helping us give Frank & Beans a furrever home!

A great place to adopt a cat during COVID. Although everything is now being done remotely, the volunteer staff here has everything very well organized, from their informative (and often amusing) cat bios to the clearly stated adoption process. Yes, it's a little complicated, but it's clearly done this way to protect the animals. Definitely recommended.

They help rescue dogs and cats. Providing them with medical care, socialization, love and care. They go above and beyond for the animals in their care

Beautiful, well-behaved dogs and cats at the shelter but the people running it made the process very difficult. Got the impression that they did not trust me, my brother or our family.

We are well-to-do and have had three dogs over the past 20 years but I got the feeling I was at a job interview or car dealership or doing a credit check.very strange experience. A lot of leading, personal questions and weird looks. Never dealt with something like this before at an animal shelter before.

Would recommend going to Mississauga shelter on Mavis or elsewhere if you want to adopt a pet in need of a good home and not deal with unnecessary judgement or hassle. Sorry to say but the older lady managing this place at the time we visited a while back was a bit strange.

Attached is a picture of our beautiful dog roxie who we picked up elsewhere:)

Have a great day

My boyfriend and I recently had a wonderful experience at EHS adopting our cat Quicksilver. Everything was done virtually prior to the adoption and was easy to navigate. Everyone was so friendly (from the volunteers to the foster cat parent) and answered our countless questions - shout out to Deanna and Barb, you guys were so great! We are first time pet owners and are so happy with our new little member of our family.

A small shelter with a big heart indeed!
All volunteer run, this shelter really cares about the animals it takes care of - the people involved are very dedicated to the animals - from managers, to cat volunteers, dog volunteers and drivers, coordinators - everyone has a passion for animals! They do not give up on any animal. Adopt don't shop!
