Dhawal at the front desk was phenomenal! So accommodating and kind. We arrived late and on a whim. He ensured we had everything we needed — including robes, slippers, toothbrush, a comb and access to a phone charger.

The Fairmont Royal York's central location in the heart of the city made it convenient for exploring Toronto's attractions. Whether I was strolling through the nearby historic districts or attending events in the city, the hotel's proximity to key landmarks enhanced the overall convenience of my stay.

The combination of timeless elegance, exceptional service, and luxurious accommodations makes this hotel a standout choice for those seeking an unforgettable stay in Toronto.

Located next to Union subway and Go train stations, this place has gorgeous and breath-taking ballrooms for events. Very nice wood interior with tasteful trims.
06 October 2023 22:16
Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the Fairmont. It's an old hotel with old rooms that are in need of renovation. There was zero noise insulation between my room and the hallway, and I could hear people walking, chatting, and entering/exiting their rooms all night. I could also hear toilets flushing and showers running from adjacent rooms.

Otherwise, location was convenient for my needs, staff seemed nice. Bar downstairs was also decent.

Toronto hotel experience - Fairmont Royal York Hotel, this hotel is very special because it is not just a hotel, it is an attraction worth visiting.

The hotel building of the Fairmont Royal York Hotel has a history of nearly 100 years. It has witnessed the city of Toronto from ancient times to the present. It has also experienced nearly a hundred years of ups and downs and still stands. It has long become a symbol of Toronto. A historic building.

[Let me tell you about my experience in this hotel]

Location: The hotel is opposite Union Station (Central Station), and the transportation is convenient in all directions. Its excellent location makes this hotel very busy even on weekdays and you can see people coming and going in the hotel.

About the rooms: As a luxury hotel, Fairmont also has extremely high quality requirements. Although the hotel building has a history of nearly a hundred years, the room equipment and facilities are relatively new. (What’s more, the smell of the entire hotel is very comfortable.)

About service: As a hotel under Fairmont, the service is of course passable.

About the hotel: I think it’s really worth saying. It’s true that it’s worth visiting as a tourist attraction. Let’s start with the hotel’s lobby. Its lobby bar is very famous and popular, and it’s often full of people. The lobby is decorated with corresponding decorations for every holiday, and my favorite is the hotel's Christmas decorations. In addition to the huge Christmas tree, its Christmas decorations also have an entire wall made of real gingerbread cookies, as well as various decorations and the retro style of the hotel. It’s really special (I haven’t been here before) I came in to visit when I was passing by because the hotel is so famous!)

In addition, after talking about the lobby, let’s talk about its galleries and conference rooms. It has a gallery about the history of the hotel (on the second floor), and this luxurious conference room like the Palace of Versailles is really shocking. (In fact, more than these two places are worth mentioning. I think the design of the entire hotel is very special, and the details are very well done. It not only makes me feel very comfortable visually, but also gives me a very calm and practical feeling. A sense of security.)

To sum up: this hotel is worth staying in, it’s the kind of hotel where I can stay the whole day without leaving the hotel. I sincerely recommend that you come and visit if you don’t live there, you won’t be disappointed.

I gave this hotel 1 stars just because of the service. Yes it is a beautiful hotel, the outside is historic and the lobby is fantastic. But there are things that ruined our experience. First of all the rooms were very outdated (a think a little bit of renos would be appreciated). There is barely enough lighting in the room, only 2 electrical sockets to use and one of them didnt work. A big one for us was the mini bar, we do not want any alcohol in the room (we booked 2 rooms, 1 for my husband and I and one for our Teenage children). They said they have to charge us $35 per room to remove the alcohol from the mini bar. I thought that as extremely insensitive to other cultures and/or recovering alcoholics and even to parents with children. We understand that many of the mini bars automatically have the alcohol in the room, but no one has ever said they would have to charge us to remove them. So yes, this made our stay very uncomfortable. I paid over $300/night for each room, thats $600, and they couldn’t do this small request without asking for more money. Another thing was the TV, no Netflix, only movies to purchase (that are already on Netflix). We asked for extra water bottles for the kids that usually come complimentary in the room, they wanted to charge us. I hated how money hungry this hotel was, very unflattering.

One of the great hotels of world.
It is worth the visit if not for a night then stay for a meal, or a cocktail - or the history, the incredible architecture, or just for a selfie in front of the Clockeork clock in the lobby. Whatever your reason for coming to the Royal Hotel you won't be disappointed.
22 July 2023 22:34
It's good overall but it's very expensive for what it offers. The cost per night is almost 400 CAD and does not even include breakfast.
25 January 2022 11:26
Absolutely the worst hotel ever. Outdated 2-star motel style rooms, rude stuff, half of the common areas are not working, somebody kicked us out of the lounge because it was still "closed" even though people were still sitting there.

We are gold members and we couldn't use the program because supposedly we booked through booking. @accorhotels
22 January 2022 4:02
Attended a gala in the hall upstairs. The food and service was great with distinct Fairmont environment. Great lobbies to relax with bars on the main floor. Location is extremely convenient as it’s very close to the main u ion station. Staff at the reception is friendly and eager to help. There are lots of elevators but it can still take long. There are escalators too but they might be hidden for first time visitors. Overall, it’s a great hotel with lots of facilities.
16 January 2022 22:26
Long story short: We booked the hotel thinking it would be a special stay to kick off the holiday season. Dining not conducive to travellers: we could only get a small plate of fries at 4: 00 pm. We thought we could get an early dinner before heading to the theatre. Drinks were okay but not worth $20-$30 each. The room and amenities were similar to mid-range hotels for patrons. I’m sure high tea would be nice as an activity for visitors To top it off, wi-fi access is an extra charge per day! My takeaway: Visit Royal York Hotel when seeing the sights. Choose a more budget-friendly hotel in the area and receive better services and get more amenities.
12 January 2022 8:34
Probably the one of the worst ratio between price and quality.

The hotel is outdated and requires good refresh.

Luck of clear signs how to find receiption and unnecessary complicated elevators. Literally no one understands how it works.

The room requires serious renovation.

You need a parking? Additional cost
You need WiFi? Additional cost - $16 per day. The famous Golden bits per second of Fairmont hotel.

The water in the bathroom is warm, not hot. The stream pressure.you need to catch the drops that slowly coming from the tap.

It should be something that worth it. Probably the location only.

Doesn't worth the half of the price.

Stayed here for one night as we went to a concert at Scotiabank Place. The check-in process was okay, but the gentleman told us that we were to park at the TD Towers when he clearly meant RBC, so we got a little lost. In the future just pay for valet, it's $59 and overnight self park is $49.

While I know we didn't pay top dollar for our room, it was definitely not the quality I was expecting for a "luxury" hotel. Two of the outlets didn't work at all, when you turned on the cold water in the sink it sounded like the pipe was going to burst, water poured out of hot/cold handle of the shower and the shower head was completely hanging off the wall.

If we had been staying longer than one night, I would be a lot more disappointed than I am. However as a quick place to rest your head it was fine, if you're able to find a deal because full price was not worth it.
04 January 2022 22:54
Historic and grand, the Fairmont has an old time elegant feel with a modern touch (think it was recently renovated). The rooms are a tad small but the location is excellent, particularly its proximity to Union station and Scotiabank arena.
03 January 2022 1:10
Was there for a work event. Ballroom was beautiful, food was excellent. Beautifully decorated for the holidays.
29 December 2021 7:43
I love this hotel. You can tell it's a very old building but they did such a good job of renovating this place. There's a lot of embark details in the hotel that brings you back to the 1930's. Service was amazing. Food in the lobby at Clockwork lounge is so delicious. The waiters are so friendly and attentive. Did I say the food was delicious? I've been to other Fairmont hotels and hands down this one is the best. The beds are a little soft and walls are thin but it didn't bother me. Check out the ballroom if you have time. It's beautiful. Check in and check out and both fast. Bathrooms are a bit outdated but it didn't bother me. I'll be back.
23 December 2021 11:31
A stunning piece of old Toronto refreshed with modern elegance. Gorgeous suites, great food, exceptional service. Plus, you're moments away from almost everything.
22 December 2021 2:14
Just worked there with a terrific event and banquet staff. They truly are like a family, each taking care of one another. The hotel has totally renovated and looks fantastic.
19 December 2021 6:44
The hotel is stunning especially around the holiday season. We went for a one night getaway and as always had a fantastic stay. One of the things that makes this hotel a favorite is the people. Upon checking in, Joy greeted us and was so pleasant. She thoroughly outlined the hotel amenities and local sites to see. Kavin was also phenomenal when we had questions and was a wealth of information about the hotel. We relaxed in the pool and Austin went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. These are the kind of people that make a company great and keep guests coming back. We look forward to our next stay and would highly recommend the Royal York to anyone visiting Toronto!
10 December 2021 2:02
Stayed in one of newly reno'd signature room with seating area, room was nice but washroom was tiny compare to size of the room also could improve ammenities such as better coffee pod and comp water bottles. Hotel was clean and staffs were very good. The Reign restaurant was beautiful and food was good but does have $$$ price. Overall enjoyed the stay and would recommend.
06 December 2021 1:56
The Fairmont Royal York provided an excellent experience for us on our last visit. The Fairmont Gold floor is on a totally other level of service. Noor and his team are thoughtful, caring and focused on making every guests experience a great one.
The lounge is beautifully designed and very comfy. The food and drinks are fantastic. It’s the perfect place to stay when you want to be right in the action Toronto has to offer. We enjoyed the lounge, the Leafs game and then a beautiful one bedroom suite.
I truly think it’s hard to beat a great stay at the Fairmont Royal York. I highly recommend it.
Patrick at the front door, Eddie in valet and Scott from guest services are all first class.
01 December 2021 17:00
The place was very clean and the staff friendly from the valet parking, to the front desk and beyond.
The few things I was not too impressed with was:
1.) Having to download (and potentially pay) for an app in order to watch movies on TV through Netflix etc, and 2.) There was no room service for lunch - only breakfast and dinner. A burger sandwich (which I had for supper) cost around $26.

Would I go again? Hmmm.not sure if I would unless it was to see a concert.
It IS very close to the Scotiabank Arena and the Union Bus Station which is a bonus!
29 November 2021 7:28
Top notch decor and service in this historic hotel in Toronto downtown. The lobby bar, particularly, is great for relaxing between meetings and dinner
22 November 2021 19:27
Beautiful hotel in a great location, across the street from Union Station and a few minutes walk to the Rogers Centre, Air Canada centre and the metro convention center. Basically the heart of the downtown core. The place is immaculate, the Queen of England has stayed here as well as many other high profile celebrities. History is alive and well at the Fairmont as it has been here over 100 years and going strong. Highly recommended for a visit even if you don't stay the night. Staff are excellent, helping and friendly.
21 November 2021 18:04
The Luxury Double room was just the right size for 2. Nicely appointed with a great view of the CN Tower. I ordered the Bay Street prime rib sandwich with fries from room service and it was delicious! The sandwich was juicy and tender prime rib with jus on a soft pretzel bun. It came with delicious fries hand cut with skins on and horseradish aioli. Delicious
20 November 2021 14:32
Disappointed that the iron did not work. Usually when to need to iron something and go out, u don't go have time to call the concierge and wait for a replacement. These kind of things are expected to to work at a hotel like the Fairmont. That is why you pay the extra money.
19 November 2021 1:11
Great hotel! However Wifi & parking is not included and are very expensive. Overall great atmosphere and place.
13 November 2021 0:16
We loved our stay at the Fairmont Royal! It was perfect. The decor is beautiful. It is well located. We stayed in a luxury room on the 11th floor with a beautiful view. As a family for 4, we were a bit concerned that the room would be too small after reading reviews on online.however, the room was perfect! The entire staff was friendly and accommodating. The service was exceptional. We did not have any issues with valet parking as some previous reviews had stated. The Reign Restaurant offered delicious dining, and we enjoyed drinks at the Clockwork each night. We definitely stay here again!
11 November 2021 13:08
Stay just ok. Spent 15m looking for doorman (not exaggerating) to leave
our car with on instructions of front
desk for valet. Was a Saturday prime
checkin time - perhaps (2) doormen?
Attempted to get a simple black coffee
to-go to take to room. Was directed to
non-existent bakery in basement by a
staff member (boutique cookie shop
that had no coffee? !?), tried asking 2
bartenders setting up main bar and
were told no, maybe try lobby bar?
(quote). Maitre'd at lobby bar finally
accomodated us but c'mon? 3 stops
& EASY 20 mins to find a coffee?
May seem like trivial concerns, but at
your price-point their are minimum
service expectations. We won't be
hurrying back
11 November 2021 4:04
I would recommend this hotel. Check-in was quick and efficient. The hotel workers were welcoming and friendly. I stayed in a luxury room and it certainly lived up to the name. I also tried the in-room dining for breakfast and it was amazing!
25 October 2021 17:30
Went for the weekend to celebrate my wife's birthday. Beautiful room, terrific service. Everyone friendly and helpful. Dinner at Reign was delicious and they had a surprise birthday desert for us. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. All in all a terrific experience.
19 October 2021 23:59
Hotel is fantastic well situated for the CN tower and not far from mail railway station and a short walk to bars and restaurants. May I give a special mention to Todd and Jasmine who went out of way to help us first book a PCR test to return home then Jasmine who helped with a transfer problem. Very welcoming and friendly staff.
04 October 2021 1:31
Avoid this hotel unless you’re the party type. We booked a ‘Luxury Room’ for 3 nights this weekend. Thank We checked into our room located on the first floor, and could hear music. We assumed it was coming from the hotel bar or something, and it would eventually stop. The music got worse after midnight, and realized we must be over an event room or hall. We went down to the front desk, and we were booked into another room in the east side of the hotel.
We’re on the eight floor now, and hear some sort of loud wind blowing through the vent every 10 seconds or so. This noise is actually welcoming, because we hear our neighbours talking loudly and having a party in their room. This hotel seems to attract the party type, as you’ll hear people talking obnoxiously loud throughout the night. The hotel is quite clean, and the waiter at the restaurant was excellent. Anyhow, if you want a restful sleep, don’t stay here. It’s not quiet at all. Waste of money on ´luxury ‘.
11 September 2021 22:46
Average, over rated, unnecessarily expensive hotel. Attended a wedding ceremony here recently. Hotel looks really old inside. Long lineups for check in and check out. It's kinda dark inside everywhere kept lit with artificial lights; there's no natural light. Exorbitant parking amid difficult to navigate downtown streets. Never understood why people like this place so much.
06 April 2021 9:32
Fantastic hotel. Very classy main lobby and surrounding decor inside and outside.

Staff are friendly and maintain all the proper covid precautions.

The rooms are basic, but also comfortable and clean. Everything such as toiletries and everyday essentials are available via the concierge.

We weren’t able to check out the renowned cafe and restaurant due to the virus, but definitely looking forward to in the future.

The Fairmont name doesn’t always mean expensive either. The rooms are definitely affordable and the hotel itself is close to everything a tourist would be interested in seeing while in Toronto.
24 March 2021 19:35
Stayed here when I first arrived in Toronto. Great location and special thanks to the staff for helping me get accumulated to the city.
21 March 2021 9:08
Stay was very nice and would definitely recommend other Torontonians to stay at least once. Staff was very friendly and helpful which made the stay that much better.
17 March 2021 13:05
This place is amazing. If you like old luxury this is the place to go in Toronto. I love how they've updated it but they haven't taken away the little subtleties that make it feel really upscale from probably an art deco era.
15 March 2021 3:47
The Fairmont Royal York is in a good location. Good access to everything. The staff is very pleasant and friendly. I'll go here again.
27 February 2019 15:35
Hotel was overall beautiful and offered fantastic service at reception. Received a formal noise complaint for talking too loud as my partner is partially deaf and the security officer did not care. Will not be returning.
23 February 2019 14:27
They have amazing all you can eat breakfast, we got it as complimentary because they didn’t have the room that we book. I was up set at first but dammmm, that breakfast made up for it tho
21 February 2019 3:59
Still the grand ol' dame of Toronto hotels. Very friendly and helpful service. Our king room was quite roomy, even with the extremely comfortable cot we asked for. Tom service is pricey, but delectable.
18 February 2019 5:26
Exceptional service, the best infact. You will be treated like royalty. The premises is stunning and full of history. Rooms are cozy and modern with beautiful views of the city. Make sure you go to Benihana while you are there. Fun, delicious and of course a truly authentic experience.
15 February 2019 5:52
Absolutely loved my stay at this amazing hotel. The location and the view are simply outstanding. The staff and service was just impeccable. The cleanliness of the room was perfect. I couldn't've asked for more. Highly recommended for the service and convenience. Thank you for maintaining the high standards any guests would naturally expect from a well-established hotel!
14 February 2019 7:31
Friendly staff and a great historic atmosphere. The rooms are a bit small and the walls don’t absorb sound as much as in other hotels but that’s par for the course in an older building. The hotel more than makes up for it in the small touches that are overlooked elsewhere.
13 February 2019 18:39
Renovated room looked fantastic, and the service was prompt. The room service, while expensive, was worth the cost, with great presentation and fantastic tasting fish and chips. Valet service off of front made it easy to drive there, and not have to fight for limited parking elsewhere
09 February 2019 11:45
Well, I can check this hotel off my bucket list. The return leg of our vacation abroad put us in Toronto on New Year's Eve and my wife was able to get us an excellent room overlooking Union Station. Super friendly front desk staff checked us in and provided some information on the events of the evening. The rooms a classy "old school" with the original fireplace still present and lovely tile in the bathroom. The room itself was spacious and comfortable and very well equipped with a stocked mini-bar and a large screen so we could comfortably relax after 14 hours in-transit and take in the evening's festivities on the screen. Easily recommended.
08 February 2019 22:56
Beautiful decor and very nice rooms. Located right outside Union station, connected to the subway. Rooms are spacious and the service is quick and reliable.
06 February 2019 15:02
For the name and the status and the price, very disappointed with the experience, definitely will not want to return. Beginning with a rude receptionist who failed to understand that we needed a room with 2 beds and entered into an argument when asked to change the room to the one with 2 beds. The toilet wouldn't flash properly so we had to go inside the water tank and try to fix the flasher. The shower had very little water coming out and the water took about 10 minutes of me being in the shower before it started getting warm and at the maximum it only got warm, was very uncomfortable to take shower with little warm water, felt really cold. Not a pleasant stay overall, very disappointed.
04 February 2019 0:11
Very nice hotel. Staff are friendly and professional. I only gave it 3 stars because everything costs money! This is the only hotel I've stayed at in the last 10 years that charges for internet and not a small fee! For the cost of the room, it definitely should be included. Oh, and bring water, that'll cost you too.
03 February 2019 2:30
Quite nice. Xmas dinner. Not for everyone but if you are unwilling or unable to cook. Great.

It was more intimate than I expected and Santa Claus ruled.
25 January 2019 20:33
Satisfied, comfortable, and suspicious renovated room with cold blue-gray tone. More space and sitting area. Facilities and amenities are great.

Location is unbeatable and really convenient, opposite to Union Station, walking distance to Air Canada center or Scotia bank arena, King St, Queen St, shops and restaurants nearby. Hub of transportation.

A bit confuse of direction in the hotel at first due to the construction but still okay. Can be accessed via Front st and on both sides of the hotel, upon arrival at the hotel, not enough staff to assist with luggages.

Bathroom is so small. Work out outfits hasn't provided in the room. Anyway, clean and well equipped.

May stay here again.

For parking, hotel provides valet parking with fees for overnight and hourly rates however there are cheaper public self parkings nearby the hotel for optional which cheaper and also convenient.
18 January 2019 7:13
The hotel is currently being renovated but other than the areas that are blocked off, you would hardly know it. The rooms are quiet, well appointed and comfortable. The bed, in our newly renovated room, is one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in. The staff are attentive and unobtrusive. Breakfast In Pipers Pub has plenty of options including cooked to order Eggs Benedict, if you wish. The rates are very competitive right now, so if you have wanted to stay in the Royal York in the past, now is your chance. Tip: Join Le Club AccorHotels to save check in time. We avoided the long lines by using online check in. Our room was ready at 8 am - no extra fee - plus we had complementary wi-fi. All for spending a few minutes to join the loyalty program.
11 January 2019 6:42
Sumptuous hotel. If it's good enough for the Queen, then it's good enough for us! Fabulous location: very handy for the train station. Which is handy when The Canadian's departure was delayed by 12 hours.
Lovely pool and gym. Splendid room. Staff were helpful and gracious.
06 January 2019 8:26
Beautiful 20th century building with elegant charm. Under renovation, which is exciting because the place is already gorgeous. Perhaps a bit random, but the place smells amazing. They must have a bunch of diffusers in each hallways and common area, because the smells are omnipresent. The amenities are fantastic- used the pool and hot tub each day. My 4-star rating attributes mainly to the building's age; while it's beautiful as I've mentioned, it lacks a few modern touches that I found a tad irritating. The rooms are heat controlled which isn't my favorite because I need it to feel like an igloo while I'm sleeping. Fortunately the windows open, but the air gusts in due to the style of the panes along with being high above ground. The water also took a while to heat up while showering. Again, old building. Overall, this place is a gem. If you can get a good deal on a room, it's a "def stay".
19 December 2018 22:14
The Royal York is back and in style. The renovations look great. A more consistent and stately appearance with top notch amenities and lavish rooms. No frill here is spared. The walk through the lobby makes you feel like you're royalty as well.
