Fern Resort

Staying two nights for Orillia hockey tournament.
No hot water for my family to shower this morning.
That's enough to put me off ever returning to the Fern.
Better option is to stay elsewhere!

We got a New Year package and went as family to spend 4 nights including New Year’s Eve.

Great place to stay as a family and enjoy some collective activities. Play Village is a great option to engage kids in different types of activities and at the same time give parents some great moment to enjoy on their own without the kids.

The stay / package included 3 meals every day, food was really great and service was excellent.

Plenty of space to enjoy the nature, do activities or just get some quality walks / hikes.

Great place to disconnect from the daily routine and the our busy daily life.

We will definitely be back and we highly recommend it.

Best place for all ages. Very inclusive resort with lots of entertainment to keep you going. All very friendly place home away from home and very relaxing too. I always come back with a fresh mind…….

Beautiful resort at Christmas Time. Rooms are clean and have fireplaces. Food is excellent and the property is beautifully decorated.

Rooms were good size and very clean! We even had a separate sitting area with mini bar area, couches and tv, with big deck and nice view of lake.
Space for our event was set up perfectly for mingling and dancing.
Dinner was just okay but breakfast was really good!
Staff were super friendly and very attentive.
Would totally recommend for event or family getaway!

I absolutely enjoyed my week at this Resort, the staff always had a smile on their face, we're always very pleasant, professional and willing to help with any issue (which I had none when I was there) the rooms are very large with a sitting area which was beautiful to have a nice breeze off the lake in the evening and to just sit & listen to and watch the wildlife. One night I heard loons, it was so amazing to hear!

One room I saw had a small jacuzzi tub overlooking the lake (beautiful view) this in addition to the shower area and also they have small fridges in every room which comes in very handy for medication or if you want to keep food or beverages cold.

While I was there, there was a 10: 00 p.m. Curfew for noise which was fantastic but I'm not sure if this is a regular thing because I was there on a business trip for education. I would like to think that it is because it made things more enjoyable not having to listen to Neighbors being loud or partying, but I cannot say for certain.

There is a play area for kids with a 5 hole putt putt area and I suppose if I wasn't there for business and had more time I might be able to tell you more about the things you can do while you're there, but I did see boats and kayaks, I think I saw a tennis court and there's a giant chess and checkerboard outside which I thought was pretty cool but didn't get a chance to play! There are also fire pits throughout the resort so you can sit outside around a fire.

The only downside, is perhaps this place could use a face-lift, but having been shut down during covid & no income I'm sure didn't help pit that on hold however that being said, everything was Very clean!

The only other issue was some cabins or a couple of them anyway have an outside staircase that seemed a bit sketchy to me and in fact when I was walking up the stairs they were really kind of wobbly and it honestly made me feel unsafe, but i also have a fear of falling through steps. If you have a fear like I do, my suggestion would be to ask for a lower level room like I did, and problem solved.

My room was inside a building and had a 2nd floor, and the walls are kind of thin but it certainly didn't distract from my enjoyment of this place.

I would definitely recommend it to anybody looking to get away from the City and enjoy the outdoors or even just Lounge in your room since they have DVD players and fireplaces, which would be nice for a romantic evening. Not sure if all the rooms have a fireplace so if you want one, you may want to ask.

Mother's Day Brunch was below par, from service to the food. Would not return especially for the price.

Honest review here since the ones displayed are very inaccurate. I was here for 3 nights and 4 days. April 27th check in and checked out April 30th.

Check in: Upon arriving at the resort, check in went smoothly no issue there, and staff seem very friendly and willing to help if there is a problem. The poor rating comes from the room, the food, the atmosphere of the resort, etc.

Room: The rooms are extremely outdated. None of the equipment in my room would work, the hairdryer would not work, the coffee machine wouldn’t run. The fridge temp could not be adjusted, the small 15 inch TV was terrible quality and the remote for the tv only worked if used within inches of the TV box. The shower would periodically turn cold mid way, and this was consistent with every shower taken. The AC would not run properly, since the desired room temperature could never be reached. The toilet seat broke off for absolutely no reason which was strange, but only goes to show the lack of quality and repair being done here. There were worms in the washroom and despite killing a few I was able to locate where they kept coming from which was a small hole near the bathtub. Most uncomfortable bed to sleep on, and douvet cover is for show not comfort. I spoke to a handful of others that were staying on the resort for the same duration, and everyone had the same complaints, some said their rooms smelled bad but luckily I did not experience that.

Food: Buffet on Saturday for lunch was basic, food tasted alright so cant complain there. Food portion sizes however for the dinner on Friday were very small. My partner and I were both still very hungry even after their 2 appetizers, a main, and a desert. For dinner I got the prime rib as the main, my partner got the tilapia, for apps we both got the soup and spring rolls. No flavour on soup, and spring rolls were the size of my pinky in width and shorter in length. The desert was very very sweet and the members at my table all agreed.

Amenities: We were not able to try out any of the activities available on the resort due to the weather.

Conclusion: I would never choose to come back or recommend the stay to anyone. The location on the water is nice and this place has a lot of potential, but they need to gut it and rebuild. It’s just too old and nothing works efficiently, so it is more of an inconvenience and burden than comfort and a good time.

We went between seasons and that may have been the problem. The casino was closed due to ransomware attack. Outside pools closed and skating outside no longer available.

Food is excellent. Definitely try the buns— you can take them home for $7 a dozen! A few parts of the resort are telling of its age, and renovations and upgrades might be necessary. Still, great place to enjoy a relaxing weekend with the family!

This place! So much to do. Some of the rooms are a bit dated, but the setting and the staff for than make up for it. Very lovely place to visit.

Overall good experience. Just didn’t seem ready for the group we had. Sometimes food was quick and good sometimes not. Staff was the best part of this resort

Resort is awesome. During the week in the winter there was not very many planned activities that were not canceled. The weekend was awesome. Staff is extraordinary. Cassidy and Ash we my favorite. Food was absolutely amazing. I would go again but try the summertime so there is more things to do.

My family and I didn't have the best stay here due to weather and availability of programs during the week. However, the customer service from the General Manager, Scott, was above and beyond expectations. He reached out to me and has made sure that my feelings towards Fern Resort are positive and will likely be going back. Thank you Scott

Having my first weekend Holiday here and it's been quite nice snowshoeing ice skating horse riding lots of good food and very nice staff

Wonderful resort! The food was absolutely delicious and high quality. We stayed in the Bayshore cottages and felt like celebrities! My only suggestion would be to put the smart TV in the main sitting room instead of the bedroom. The DVD player in the main sitting room malfunctioned a few times and a smart TV would be far more convenient. I will say it was an added bonus that there were DVDs available to borrow from the main office. The fresh homemade sweet rolls that were on the table in the dining room were out of this world, and I was pleasantly surprised to find them available for purchase when I was checking out. The staff were attentive and helpful. The high five card system was a nice option and a great way for the staff to be recognized. Thanks for hosting us, we hope to be back!

Fantastic experience and well worth the money! Snowshoeing, cross country skiing, horse and cutter rides, snowmobiling, ping pong, billiards, hiking, history tours, ice fishing, beer and wine tasting and the list goes on. Absolutely worth it for a weekend getaway both with or without the kids! The staff is super friendly and very welcoming. Definately have to go back.

We were here in Winter over New Years and since it was unexpectedly warm a lot of the outdoor activities did not happen as expected. Facilities and some rooms look like they've been updated although not always successfully.

I'm sure this place has a very different vibe in the Summer.

If you are looking for great service, a family oriented environment with programs for every age, Fern is the place to go. This place is a gem. We only go in the winter to experience all the winter fun. They have all the equipment and opportunity you could ever need.
