Five Star Chinese Restaurant

Just recently moved and discovered this Chinese take out place. Easy to order, ready on time, dishes are amazing!

Only critique I would say is to have the public washroom available to customers waiting for their orders. The sign on the washroom references closure of the washroom due to covid.
It's time to open the washroom to your customers.

Told food would be ready at 630, when we went in told to wait 15 more minutes. Waited another 25 minutes and was told food was being packed.waited another 35 minutes! Don’t go to this place if you want your food on time or hot! Being busy is understandable but it does not take an extra hour to pack food. Be honest with customers so you don’t waste their time. Discount should have been provided

Ordered sweet and sour chicken balls. They were TINY, taste deep fried, not real chicken at all. Might as well be kfc. The red sauce wasnt any good. Total waste. Can’t speak for other dishes but I won’t be back. Nice staff and service but the food was not.

We’ve ordered from this restaurant three times and every time we are always missing items that we’ve payed for. Good food but they don’t pay attention to the orders. Our orders are never fulfilled. If you order pick up check the bag first. If you have it delivered check the bag before they leave. Hopefully others have better luck.

Not sure what happened, has been my go to for years. Our order today was absolutely brutal. Our one before was below par, I put it to just a busy bad day. But today's was garbage. Sorry Five Star, but Alex from 416 will no longer be ordering from you. Whole order smells like fish, lemon chicken even tastes like fish. Thai green curry was the worse ever. I'm done. I used to love this place! Things have changed, within a matter of a few weeks. The last thing I bought was was beef lo mien and it was not the way it used to be. The noodles are much thicker now, and I only get 3 small plates now, whereas I used to get 6. Maybe that is why the thick noodles. The first picture is what beef lo mien and Singapore rice noodle used to look like. The second and third picture is what it looks like now. Even the Singapore rice noodle looked as though spaghetti had been substituted instead of the rice noodle, though it is hard to tell the difference by the pictures. But it was not the same noodles. Even Cantonese chow mien is not what it used to be. There used to be small corn, bamboo shoots, water chestnut, bok choy, mushrooms, onions, celery, shrimp, pork and cat (I mean chicken). Many of those vegetables have been replaced by weird vegetables like carrots and cabbage. It seems like they are using the cheapest North American vegetables to replace the more expensive, traditional vegetable, yet the price keeps going up! I am thinking of giving up 'Chinese' food altogether. It's just not the same anymore!

The quality is consistent with their assortment of dishes seemingly coming from an assembly line of very edible north American Chinese food. Prices are not inline with the atmosphere or layout as a pick up joint and staff are not the friendliest; however, despite their lack of charisma or corridial interaction with customers, the food will remain worth returning for as there is pitifully little selection in Port Hope. Perhaps the policy if not allowing a repeat customer's child to use the washroom that is seemingly off limits, even to children, be reconsidered. Laughing in the face of a distressed parent paying for an 80 dollar take out order when they ask to use the washroom upon pickup is in incredibly bad taste.

I don't think the quality of the food makes up for the rudeness of the woman taking your order. I ordered 2 General Tso lunch specials - one spicy and the other mild. Apparently it's too much to ask which of the 2 containers has the mild version because that caused me to be yelled at for about the 4th time. We'll try somewhere else next time.

Food is good, price not too high either. I've been going there since it opened, but lately they have screwed up every order the last six times I've been there. They forget the sauces, egg rolls and the fortune cookies regularly. The last time they gave me the wrong meal, not what I ordered and the guy on the counter blamed me saying he never makes mistakes. Check your order before you leave the store. I will never go there again.
