I don’t write this review lightly. After exploring my options and not being able to keep up with my monthly payments, I reached out to Victor Fong and Partners for guidance on what my options would be, after reviewing trustees in the GTA, and seeing nothing but glowing reviews. After our first meeting, I felt completely confident that I was making the right decision, not only to file a consumer proposal, but also going with Victor. He was very personable and assured me that based on my financial situation, I should have no problem having his proposal approved by my creditors. Everything is set to go, after a couple Zoom meetings and I meet him at his office to pay my fee and sign the paperwork to get the ball rolling. Victor seems displeased that I am there early (maybe I’m reading that wrong, but I don’t think so given what happens later). Everything is signed and ready to go, he assured me everything should be good to go and we will simply need to wait. I receive an email from Victor about a month later, telling me that the proposal has been accepted and to review the information in his email. Upon reviewing the email, I notice a major creditor is missing from the list. I email him to let him know that. I hear nothing back. Thankfully we are meeting the next day via Zoom for a mandatory counselling session. I book a day off of work so I can attend this meeting. We begin, I ask him if he saw my email from the day before, he says he is just receiving an email from that particular creditor. They respond in the negative to my proposal. Victor informs me that those opposed to the consumer proposal, are demanding almost double the amount he has assured me, should be no problem to get approved. I vehemently tell him I will not agree to this amount as I cannot afford it. Essentially, Victor at this point ends his efforts to assist me. Our Zoom session lasts 5 minutes. A day off, for 5 minutes. He advises me to write a letter, begging my creditors to accept the original proposal. I write a letter outlining why I cannot afford to pay double the amount. In my email to Victor I ask if there is anything I may need to add. He doesn’t respond, but simply CC’s me on the email he sends to the creditors. We meet last Friday for our meeting of the creditors. This is after I received an email from Victor the night before, asking me to review an email from one of my creditors, with an amended demand. I inform Victor that I cannot see an email chain or anything from the creditor. He responds with that’s fine, we will talk tomorrow. Our talk went, “your creditors have refused your proposal, so that’s that. ” I truly feel that I was misled, and once I didn’t agree to doubling my payment amount (I didn’t set the amount to pay back), I truly believe that Victor refused to do anything for me. I would definitely not recommend his services, and I am struggling to believe the reviews on here. I don’t know what else to say.
***As I have been mischaracterized by the trustee, I am not making anything up. I wish it was as he states, it wasn’t. It’s unfortunate that this happened. It’s more unfortunate, that there is no accountability being taken. Oh well. Lesson learned.
