Food Basics

I bought some pet foods from there, but unfortunately, my cat doesn’t like them, so I have to throw them away.

I couldn't find any Tasmo capsule of Americano anywhere but only at Food Basic supermarket!

I know that this is supposed to be a discount grocery store however, that does not mean that the food should be moldy.

The first foods that I saw were raspberries that were on sale and there was black mold clearly seen on all of the containers of raspberries.

The mold certainly did not develop during the day and should have been inspected in the morning before the store opened.

Either management was not made aware of this or management knew, and had stated to the department head that the raspberries were good enough to sell to the public.

I really wouldn’t have thought of doing this review, but then I saw how the asparagus was being neglected. There was no water in the trays to make certain that the asparagus stayed fresh for purchase.

I then started to check other foods in the fruit and vegetable section and decided not to continue coming to this location again as this is not the first time quality assurance concerns have been raised.

Just up the road is a FreshCo, which even though there were a few issues in the past, I have seen that they have made significant changes in order to make certain that their fruits and vegetables are the freshest. Not once have I ever seen any kind of mold or products that should not be on the shelf.

I guess in this case “discount” truly means buyer beware!

Best butcher. Great and affordable cuts of meat, I go out of my way to shop here because of the butcher shop.

I have to say the people in the butcher department are wonderful! The cashiers are also very friendly! Thank you to all!

I recently purchased life smart organic soy milk at this food basics location with best before day May 26. When I opened it today (April 24). The soy milk was all curds.

The milk and dairy section needed to do a better job. The customers in line before me found multiple expired cows milk in bags. Some leaks, so turned out bad. I wonder how the handling of milk at this food basics had been? Maybe food inspector can investigate

Oh I loved it. No that they had different brands but that they could offer you of various different quantities and it's not always gonna be bulk. You can have veggies with as little as a quarter kilo or a pound maybe. It's not always like No Frills or Loblaws where you snatch away your interest just coz the quantities are too much for your needs. Keep it up FB

Their butch shop is great, friendly staff and meat is always fresh.
On the other hand their veggies are so great. Usually go there for meat.

No shopping carts or baskets available, very bad produce section thing lying on the floor and floor not swept regularly at 5pm 10th feb

Better than NoFrills, Metro and any others, for special discounted prices, highly recommend this store

I just asked the Asian woman at the pharmacy if I can take the flu shot or the booster shot. Then she tells me that she has none available. I am African American woman and I think the woman is racist. Then she helps the White woman front of me with her own problems. I am sick with the stomach flu. Its ok. I am going to ask shoppers drug mart about it. I heard on the announcement that the flu shot was available.

I like shopping at this store. This store has some of things I am looking for.

It is a good everyday grocery store. If you are looking for premium products, this is not the place.

If you're in a hurry and just want to grab a few things, don't bother. I spend more time waiting in line than shopping because there's not enough cashiers, they're slow or customers don't know what they're doing.

First time here and couldn't find the Maple Lodge hotdogs. After walking back and forth few times I went to the meat department and ask for help, and the butcher guy didn't answer me but ask me "Did you try to look for it? "

Luckily a lady heard my question and helped. What a wonderful customer service experience.

Nice atmosphiere friendly staff not too crowded prices however are high with some discounts available

The layout of the store was great I found everything I wanted easy the cash out process was fast and easy but the washrooms need a good cleaning that's for sure

Great prices Don’t really like how the store is setup hard to find items. Self checkout is a nightmare it never works properly it also stinks like something rotting everytime you walk through the door stupid place for a sushi bar at the main entrance.
I only shop here if I see something on sale for a really good price

The store is good but there is never any carts inside. Many times i have had to walk back out to get a cart. Hard to find baskets as well sometimes. Store is pretty good for cleanliness.

I really like this store never shipped there before. The staff are super friendly and helpful. A large size store lots of choices definitely recommend shopping there.

Excellent service, friendly staff and reasonable. Lots of options for you to choose, from Bread to Desserts, line was long but it went very fast.

A worker was helpful in finding a product, and a cashier names natalie bagged my groceries while we were waiting for a customer to clear the cash area, not common!

First the store is super clean and looks pretty good.
I was there on Thursday 25 March and I was having difficulties to find my products but an amazing guy came up to me and asked if I’m doing fine or not.
I had this chance to get to know “ Ali “, friendly guy, he deserves a raise dear manager.

Grocery store is great, and the Bucher guys are always nice and respectful. Today I had an encounter with a rude cashier named Jenn. As she was scanning my items she was throwing my produce and items down the conveyor belt, crushing my produce. As a consumer you purchase the best produce, not to have to crushed and squished at check out.

She looked like she was having a bad day or just frankly didn't want to be there, but that doesn't give you a reason to throw other peoples grocery's.

Do better

The Store manager Hani is great!

He help us on a $500 Gift card scam with problem free service.

Last week, we purchased and found the gift card's number was invalid, we came to see Hani. He call the card provider: OneVanilla directly and required they send us the replace card.

This morning, we received the new card. However, it could Not be activated for some reason. We came to see Hani again.he resolved the problem via their own phone line efficiently. We are happy with the $500 gift card without any problem.

When we encountered Scam, we didn't feel comfortable about Food basic's merchandise with problem.

However, as long as we reach the store manager Hani, Problem get free! So we are still confident on Food basics and will stick on the supper market.

Thank you, Hani! You bring back the confidence of Foodbasic to us again.

Discovered punctured milk bag while loading my groceries in the parking lot. Another customer tried to help me. (Nice customers shop here.) Went back to store entrance.
The welcome staff at the entrance doing hand hygiene and cleaning the carts - I think the name was Yamanya (or Hamanya? Hard to hear through a mask that everyone needs to wear) - was extremely nice and helpful. She showed me to customer service and asked the staff there to give me an exchange. Customer service staff were also extremely helpful, arranging a replacement with the dairy staff right away. They even gave me paper towel and wipes to clean my car. 5 stars to you ladies!

I went today to grab some bread and milk. I was looking for the milk advertised in the flyer but couldn’t find it. I asked this lady who was working there and she literally walked right pass me. I thought she didn’t hear me the first time so I said a little louder excuse me miss and she turned around bothered and pointed at the young man stocking up the shelves to help me instead. I asked him who that lady was so I could report her to management for being unnecessarily rude and neglectful towards customers. He told me she is the manager Jen, lol. If this is their manager what can you expect from the other associates. Yeah their products are good but service is absolutely trash and I will not be coming back again.

Called several times to ask for a merchandise inquiry and the person behind the phone HUNG UP! SEVERAL TIMES. Very poor customer service. I visited this location so many times but not anymore thanks to that person. Will not do business with this particular location.

This store is top notch! Excellent staff from the front end to the floor personnel. The management team instills a positive vibe and the store is always clean, well organized and managed beautifully!

Went there tonight. The staff was very nice. The place was very clean. I went there for some Persian products I found everything I need. I'm very satisfied.

Great butcher shop, store is run poorly, always looks like it needs to be cleaned, and never enough of their unpleasant cashiers.

On January 21,2021, it's my first time @ this location. So, my dad was picking up the items, while I pushed the cart.

My prayer is that every essential worker will be safe and love each other. During this horror movie that turned into reality, we need each other.

Went shopping here, noticed something weird. The posted prices on the items were less than the price of items when scanned at the cashier. Quite misleading, you end up paying more than you anticipated. I am certain that is illegal! In any case when we asked for the manager he was quite dismissive telling us to go "shop at Walmart instead! " with no apologies or remorse.the manager should be fired. Quite rude.not to mention taking advantage of Canadians during the pandemic!

Some of the lowest prices in the area and GTA. Based on personal experience they have done better than most in keeping shelves stocked during the pandemic.

This is the best Food Basics I've ever been to. Very neat and organized. Each aisle has wider space than any other Food Basics. Shopping baskets were very clean and one of employees was cleaning the freezer handles continuously. Seems like they are handling everything very well for Covid-19 situation. I used to be a Longo's customer and was looking for the same level of grocery stores after I moved to this area. It took 3 months to visit this Food Basics because the previous shopping experiences at other Food Basics locations were not great. But, this Food basic is different. I will do grocery shopping at this location every week from now on.

The cashier there is not paying attention when she near me I told to her already then when she's far she ask me again and she complains can't understand me because of my masks.how stupid is that.

Covid19 review: Shopped early in the day to avoid crowds and lineups. Flyer specials were in stock. Pleasant interaction with the young cashier. Was in and out efficiently, that was good. Greeters at the door to check for masks. Minor point that there could be more cart return carousels, but that is not a game changer.

Nicest Food Basics store I have been in. Very helpful staff. Was hoping to get some Nestea Zero since it is on sale but it appears none of the stores have any in stock. I will definitely so in this Food Basics store again.

Butcher shop is great for good quality meats with great value if you shop their weekly sales, there's always something discounted and they offer a broad selection. Always nice in these times to have someone to speak with and interact to help you with your selection.

Long lines but great election of fresh food. I wish stores wouldn't need a loonie for the carts. Who carries coins anymore?

Worst experience today @ store at Bayview & Mjr Mackenzie RH. Shopped, waited in 1-16 line at 3: 20 debit card in hand while 2 cashiers horsing around. Walked out -left food ON THE BELT- called Hani mgr. He doesn't care. NEVER OFFERED TO FOLLOW UP- JUST SAID 'OH THAT'S TOO BAD' ***NO CUSTOMER SERVICE! NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN! Or ANY FOOD BASIC STORE!

It's big and clean. Items well stocked including kawartha dairy ice cream. They should have built in self checkout lanes but I'm sure they can bolt that on eventually. I say that since their express lane takes up to 16 items so it isn't really express.

Drove my friend to go shop at this store and we bought evaporated milk on sale with a limit of 12 per customer. We each got 12 cans and decided to put all the evaporated milk on one cardboard box so it can be transported to my car easier. The clerk said no separate bills even though we were two separate customers paying with our individual credit cards. I went to help my friend put her cans into my car and went back in line to get cans for myself. The same clerk had to call the manager because he wanted to deny my purchase of 12 cans for myself. His reasoning to call the manager was because my friend and I entered the store together so we were considered as one customer. After explaining that we do not live together the manger hesitantly agreed to honour their own policy of 12 per customers.

This is a PSA for people who shop with friends as if you get the same items on sale it is best to go to different cashiers to avoid complications with the clerk/manager

I was there today for groceries and I asked the store manager for red grapes since the shelf was completely empty and he called someone to fill that after 10 minutes no one even bothered to get the grapes and I asked that associate again, he told me someone is working on that and again I had to wait another 10 minutes and nothing eventually happened.
So I went to the store manager again and told him how nicely I was treated and he looked at me the way that he doesn't even give a damn.
So I left and I never ever go there for shopping.

The advertised products in the weekly flyer were out of stock on the first day of the sale. What a joke for a major grocery chain.

We went to Walmart and bought everything we needed.
