Food Basics

I like to go there in the morning. They are always stocked and clean. The variety of snacks and spices is good. They have a good halal section as well.

I just moved into the area, and I've enjoyed many of the businesses in this area. I think this particular food basics is the epitome of a really poorly run store with unarguably some of the worst employees I've ever had the displeasure of coming into contact with.
The first time in this outlet I was almost run down by the person who brings the carts back to the cart-dispensing area.
The second time, I was yelled at by an employee for being in the way of another employee with a dispensing skid.
The third time and 3rd time is a charm!
I was at checkout going through the narrow aisle to leave the place, and a heavy set employee was blocking the way out. She yelled at me for getting upset that she was blocking my way out.
Who runs or manages this trailer park, run by people who have the sensitivity levels of door-stops and the personalities of roadkill!

NOT A FAN!

They haven’t had red meat here since before thanksgiving weekend. No beef chops, lamb chops, nothing. This is on top of their usual shortages of various items. I don’t know who handles the ordering here but it’s clearly not working out.

It’s amazing that some stores in Toronto don’t welcome dogs but other welcome them with open arms (Loblaws). I will not spend my money in a place where my dog isn’t allowed

I prefer this store to the no frills across the street. There is more selection and the prices are comparable.

Great selection of basic staples with good prices! I go there for good deals on cut flowers and plants.

Very nice place to do groceries with lot of options.prices are reasonable with good quality.lots of options for breads. Indian groceries items are also available.

Staff are rude and ignorant! I once had staff cancel my order when I quickly ran to the produce isle and she claimed it “canceled and it had never done that before”, just so she could rescan every item of mine because she couldn’t keep up with MY self checkout. Another occasion an elderly staff was screaming at my daughter tell her to stand in the corner as if I need ‘help’ with my child! She started crying and felt really embarrassed! Majority of food is rotten and mouldy! THE WILL SELL YOU ROTTEN MEAT AND MOLDY FOOD Play is untidy!? Majority of staff are unprofessional!

Not impressed with this store. I have been in the past and it was great. Today was terrible, like very bad. There was mold, like literal blue hairy mold on fresh pasta. The 7 layer dips were expired, by one week. I went to look at the meat section and many of them had dark brown marks on them. This means they're old. I was grossed out and scared to buy anything from the produce section. They really should clean up their act before they're closed down for health violations.

Everytime whenever I go here I get almost everything. Specifically I want to say that they have their own own brand named "Selection" and I found that the products of this brand is very good and not expensive too. I recommend this brand to all.

Everyone at Food Basics have been nothing but heroes (just my opinion).
During this pandemic, Food Basics and the staff have kept open, so everyone could have food on their tables. They've taken all the necessary precautions, to make sure everyone is safe, as well as themselves.
I've had nothing but good experiences shopping here.
Everyone there deserves a huge thanks, prior and during this pandemic, for their level of service.

The prices were awesome! Produce was fresh.
There was a very long line-up, but we got through it in 10 minutes.

A queue that barely moves, prices that are definitely higher than the nearby no frills and less selection across all categories.

What is wrong with this place you ask? Well everything.

Line up to pay was a mile long.they had ONLY 3 people at the cash registers. HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?

They never have enough people on cash when its business. The line is long past the freezers and there's only 3 people working. Its friday. This is unacceptable

The prices are good for most things. They are usually cheaper than Food Basics. The bakery selection is very good too. Unfortunately the produce department is horrible. With the covid stuff, sometimes the line-ups are out of this world.

Generally a good shopping experience with staff paying attention to details like cleanliness and safety. The lineup to checkout is quite long though.

I like shopping here because it is well organized, well stocked, with good prices. They have adjusted the checkout process to make it smooth while maintaining social distancing. The staff all seem quite friendly, parking is ample, and they are in a great plaza with lots of nearby shopping opportunities.

The line went really fast today even though it was long. I was happy seeing as I only had 3 things. The cashier was nice as well! Which is great because shopping is hectic for me. It was line 1 at 11: 30 February 26 2021.

Decent grocery store, courtious staff. Also sells beer and wine. The store has an Indian and West Indian section as well. The only thing I dont like is the long queue for billing. The management should really look into having more employees at the billing counters.

Shopping at Food Basic saves money, I just love that everyday there are on sale food so much things.

Small lineup but not crowded inside. Clean and well organized. Always have most items in stock. Good location to shop at.

Lots of parking. Good prices, almost as cheap as no frills. Good size store and clean. I was there during covid and they were handling the line well. Did not have to wait long. Will shop there again.

I enjoy shopping here the lines are quick and it's very rare to find an empty shelf. Some cashiers have a sour attitude but if you ignore them your day won't be ruined. This location seriously needs to add self checkout they have the space.

Don't expect shopping buggy in the store. Also bags close to vegetables and fruits.

Several people are found with out mask inside the store!
I saw at the entrance security guard was just watching people entering without mask at 8: 50 am.
They can scan the cameras.

I am exempt from the mask. (I use sanitozer and follow the social distancing rules) Here they are AMAZING and do not harass me they are kind helpful and knowledgeable. Always good deals and the staff is FANTASTIC! Way better than No Frill across the st. I go to both and the staff at Food Basics is 100 times more polite kind and helpful than those at No Frill

Good service. Not too crowded on a Friday evening. Everyone followed social distancing rules. And there was plenty of freshly cooked chicken to pick up!

These workers kept us waiting for over an hour when we showed them an $8 coupon on THEIR app. Even the manager had no clue the app has coupons and even after I gave them my phone to see for themselves of their app they kept denying it. How annoying. Your staff needs to be better trained of the things on THEIR OWN APP. What a waste of time.

Always clean and well organized. I've been shopping at this Food Basics for years now and some members of the staff feel like family.

A cleaner environment than the Nearby No Frills with weekly deals that make routine trips worth it.

5 for handling of covid but 4 for not opening more cashiers today when it was lined down the aisles. No one wants to wait that long to cash out some ppl were just leaving there few items and walked out.

A pretty huge store, well aerated, good place for grocery shopping during Covid Times - choose late evenings during weekdays, and you will just cruise thorough the large aisles! Staff is friendly, hard working, knowledgeable, no questions left without an answer! They have organic milk, organic eggs, and organic greens! I always get some good apples, bananas (look out for the old ones, packed in the special rack - they go for $1 or $1.25 - a good choice for a home made banana bread!). They have on site prepared whole chicken, hot, tasty and yummy! I found the cold cuts a bit pricey lately (in all stores, ah!), so I always have to pass the delicious looking slices of corn beef, Italian salamis etc. The selection of bread is good, they have some baguettes, mini ciabatta breads, Rudolf bread with seeds, or German Klosterbrot – Monastery Rye breads (Dimpflmeier - my favorite, always get one or two when on sale!)! They have fruit juices, like the Vita and Yoga brands, thick, affordable and tasty! The frozen pizza refrigerators have always something on sale, personally I like a thick pizza, and I always buy one or two, the Canadian or the 4 Meats - when they go on sale! And: they have beer and wine, baby! Not a large and fancy selection like at Metro, but me always gets something to go with the food! Like the 6 pack DAB German beer (lager, nor the dark one!), or whatever is (you guessed it). On.sale ;-)! Peace, friendship & keep up the good!

I was there on Sunday morning to find that no line was outside. Hand sanitizer as you go in and so far so good. Got to the back wall of the store and now I have found the line. Yes inside the store. It wrapped around three of the interior walls all the way to the bakery section. People wee trying to keep six feet apart but it was hard with people trying to do their shopping in the areas that the line was in. After completing picking up my groceries I had to stand in this large line in the store while frozen items was defrosting in my cart. Clean store but very poor people management on social distancing in the building. Move the line outside and only allow a certain amount in the building. This will help keeping the distance in the store. # not COVID-19 friendly store

Love this location. Great selection of all your needs. Produce, meats and fruits always fresh. Cashiers are quick and friendly. ANDDDDDD they now have an alcohol section.wine and beer! GREAT PLACE TO SHOP!

A wide array of produce. I can always find just about everything I need on my grocery list. Very friendly and helpful staff. Always a pleasure shopping there.

When things are on sale there, they are dirt cheap, selection is pretty good, and friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff (usually)
