Produce is not the best close to expired for most "fresh" items. Sales on can and frozen food was good

This is definitely one of the best and biggest Food Basic stores I have visited in Ontario. It is decently clean, and very well supplied. The store stuff was very polite and helpful. Only complain is that frequently not all products from a weekly flyer are available.

Don’t shop here or use self check out
Self check out took my money then it still said I didn’t pay when I did. A cashier working there called a supervisor both called me a liar and said I didn’t pay when I did. I left the store and was about to call the police then the supervisor came out and admitted the machine did take my money. I won’t be shopping there again being called a liar

A discount name in the food store. Prices are outrageous. Only buying minimum amounts. Ridiculous!

Why does this store always smell like rotting food?
Why are there never baskets at the front of the store?
Why is the store so dirty?

These are the questions I have when I shop here. It’s not completely awful, but with no frills right up the road it’s kind of a no brainer.

Doesn't carry the european style irresistible artisans pepperettes, the only reason to ever choose food basics over a rival grocer

Got some expensive pears from there the bags that they have for their fruits and vegetables are very weak it broke causing 1 of my pears to fall and bruse.

I like Food Basics, I think they have better selection than the other discount type grocery stores and the produce is always decent.
Usually good sale prices, and as the name implies a good place to get your basics and regularly used items.

They don't have the range of Fortinos or Sobeys, but they are comparably quite a bit cheaper for the same items usually.

You may not be able to find everything for a particular meal here but they have a good array of cereals and canned/packaged goods, quite a big frozen food section and a decent meat department.

One thing I actually like here is the self checkouts.they function as you would actually hope; you can use cash or debit/credit easily and they do cash back if you want, scanning is much smoother than some (looking at you Dollarama and Wal-Mart!) and they just work better in every way.

It was shocking and unacceptable to see the manager yelling at a young lady today for using online payment.

Will never be back to this location after my wife and I shopped for over an hour and waited in a long line only to be told upon checkout that it's cash only.no announcement, no signs, not even an employee walking around telling customers waiting in line. Absolutely ridiculous. There isn't even an ATM in the store and to expect customers to have cash during a pandemic is unrealistic.

Wouldn’t accept my license that recently expired all though I had the temp paper to go with it. The 2 together is considered a valid source of ID. I’m also 30 years old? Could be a race thing.waste of time. Won’t shop there again.

Surprisingly, came here to find something Fortinos didn't have. However the cost was a store that smelled a bit like a summer camp bathroom.

Advertised as a discount grocery store, but isn't a whole lot cheaper than most places. Would go for a few things, but prefer NoFrills over the prices here

My regular grocery store. Always well stocked and I can usually be in and out quickly. Staff are friendly but professional.

The store manager literally yelled at the customer and made her cry. Not even allowing her to explain anything. Yelling at her infront of other customer who were also clearly uncomfortable with the situation.

Hostile on floor workers. I was always stalked and questioned at self service even though I paid for my groceries. Not going back again.

Only sad thing is whenever i start liking something, it gets replaced.well, three times this has happened.bring back haagen dazs cookies n' cream! Or at least the espresso cookies one. =)

Okay listen, its difficult to find asian ingredients (I cant speak for other ethnic foods since I have looked into them particularly), but theyre decently stocked in quantity and variety.

Thoroughly impressed. (I mean, I couldnt find redbeans or redbean paste but literally no one else has it, so I cant blame them for that lol)

Tl;dr: they have your basic stuff, and then some, a fair bit more than you'd expect.

Saw four shoppers without masks in 10 minutes while shopping at 505 Rymal Rd. Hamilton. They need to enforce the bylaw better. I won’t be shopping there anymore.

Average store. The problem here is they have only the express checkout and the self checkout open on Tuesday mornings. The line up for the express includes big orders and the self checkout has me taking someone’s job. Don’t kid yourself, self checkout is only there to increase their profits

The head cashier? Was very helpful and directed my phone inquiry to the right person in the grocery department. The grocery department employee answered my question efficiently.

One of the lower priced grocery stores out there though still expensive with inflation costs. This particular location had plentiful stock, was clean & had an efficient checkout.

This is a great place to pick up groceries because there are literally groceries everywhere. There is actual food you can buy here and take home to cook and eat and wow that's wonderful I love it
Definitely will come back here every week when I run out food

Slow moving check out girl on the 2 to 16 line was very to say it nicely she didn't want too be there she was older too the young one on.the check out cash was great the one on the smokes line was not do great anyway we all have too shop so just don't be in a hurry peace out my people

Great prices, great selections of brands great location.

Well stocked. Good prices and selection.

Cashier pre-openned my bags which was a nice touch.

Bags are a little too thin and tend to break and puncture easily.

Always good fresh products. Now in this time, I always see the staff cleaning cash area and belts all of them and they keep you 6 feet away. Only store I go into for my food.

I like this particular food basics because it is the only one that sells beer, I like basics in general but this one caters to everyone, it also features that little wine shop which is nice

Always lots of stock and big enough to stay away from people who are too dumb to notice the arrows

The store is set up for Covid. It is cleaning, had the item I was looking for with the help of a helpful staff member.

Great friendly helpful staff. Almost always have sale items in stock. Clean store. Highly recommend shopping here.

Prices are pretty good. Lots of good brands and friendly staff. Really not much else to review. Its grocery store

Average grocery store. Every time during Covid that I've gone here it seems to be opposite day with almost everyone walking the opposite way of the arrows. Might as well just take them off the floor.

Of course you're on a daily basis staff are very nice everybody's always accommodating and they do a great job during the Corona virus

As usual once a week we are shopplng here they have some good specials that we take.advantage of at resnabel prices we usually have good service and the staff is well trained to answer any questions

Haven't been in a while, either the whole industry is reaching lower or this specific store is shameless in selling roted, corn, tomatoes, meats. Overpriced compared to the the other simple grocery stores. Won't be back anytime soon

Very bad experience BOTH times in store. Seems as if they forgot customer service experience during the pandemic. I understand workers are stressed out and I can relate, but so are customers. There’s no need to be rude and disrespectful. If you guys want customers to follow your rules be more organized with your precautionary measures?

Worst-ever experience since last 20 years. They did't displayed a notice for limit to buy products and created embarrassment at cash counter, in a very humiliating way. Will never recommend Rymal Road East Food Basics to anyone. Better to drive a little forward and buy from No Frills.

Well laid out. Friendly staff. The store manager Joe is polite, approachable and an all round nice person

Good prices. You pack you own groceries so don't forget you bags. Always fresh BBQ chickens for a tasty and easy supper.

Our go-to grocery store for 10+ years. 99% of the time on sale items are in stock. Timely deals in flyers.

One of the cleanest Food Basics around. Seems there's always not enough check out lanes open. Still a good Food Basics to visit.

Get a list, check the flyer for deals, but try not to buy other unnecessary things. Flyer deals are ok, but they don't pice match.

This is the place to shop when Fortinos closes at 9: 00 PM. During the week this store is open until 10: 00 PM

Not enough cashiers or on floor staff. Very difficult to reach high shelves and although staff was friendly and helpful were rather scarce.

Since Food Basics is on my way on from work, I shop there for the convenience. The staff are nice enough, although the lines are long. Yesterday I bought their Goodnorth Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream and once I had gotten home, realized not only was it freezer burnt, it expired in March 2019. It is now September 2019 and quite frankly, I am disappointed that they do not pay more attention to expiration dates. I will not be shopping at a store that was already mediocre at best, now is a health hazard.

Not the friendliest of grocery stores that I've visited. Not normally a Food Basics supporter as they don't price match. This week, however, their sales were predominantly the things I needed to stock up on, so I gave them my business.
Would have been nice to have been acknowledged with a smile by those working in the aisles as well as the cashier.

Love Food Basics. They offer good products at a great price. Service is really good and I really save a lot of money with their great weekly sales. They usually have exactly what I need on sale.

Good prices and very easy to find everything. Nice selection of vegetables. And you can buy beer here!

Western union service waste of time:
I was there last night for western union wait there for almost 20 minutes for some one to help me they have separate counter for lottery and western union then the casheir is asking me r u here for so I told him I want to do the western union cashier is telling me I am busy with the grocery till I am not gonna be able to help u so I told him finish yr customers and then u can help me so he is telling me after this I am going on the brake so no one will be able to do yr western union and I am the only one who knows how to do the transaction so I told him why don't u call some one and tell them to take care of yr grocery till and u can help me he said no our first priority is grocery.its Saturday evening stores was busy and they only had 3 till open.
What a waste of time

I love what they have done to the place. It looks amazing. Great variety and huge selections. Prices are fair. It is well maintained and the staff is very polite.

Good location and lots of parking but very busy and slow even with all checkouts open. Could of been the time of day and year.
