They hardly ever have any baskets by the entrance to put your items in if you need to pick up a few things. After 10 minutes of looking, I gave up and grabbed a recyclable bag and ended up having to pay for it

Food Basics is one of the best grocery stores in town! As a regular shopper there, I can confidently say that they have a lot to offer their customers. One of the things that I really appreciate about this store is the ample parking space that is available. It is always a hassle when you have to spend a lot of time searching for a parking spot before you can even start shopping, but with Food Basics, that is never a problem. There is always plenty of space to park, making the shopping experience much more convenient.

Another great feature of Food Basics is their self-checkout system. I love how easy and efficient it is to use, and it really saves a lot of time, especially when the store is busy. The machines are user-friendly and rarely experience technical difficulties, making checkout a breeze.

When it comes to the selection of products, Food Basics really stands out. They offer a wide variety of items, from fresh fruits and vegetables to pantry staples and household essentials. I have never had a problem finding what I need, and I always appreciate the competitive pricing on their products.

One of the things that really sets Food Basics apart is the quality of their meat. Their meat section is always well-stocked, and the products are of good quality. I am always impressed with the selection of meats, including beef, pork, chicken, and even seafood. I love that they have a range of options available, from premium cuts to more affordable options.

Another thing that I really appreciate about Food Basics is the freshness of their fruits and vegetables. I am always pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of the produce, which is always fresh and ripe. Whether I am looking for staples like apples and bananas, or more exotic items like dragon fruit or papaya, I can always count on Food Basics to have a great selection of fresh produce.

In summary, I highly recommend Food Basics for all your grocery shopping needs. With ample parking, a great self-checkout system, a wide selection of products, and high-quality meat and produce, this store is a top contender in the grocery market. Whether you are a regular shopper or just stopping in for a quick run, Food Basics is definitely worth a visit.

Do the research and you will see that this was intended to be a "showcase" store for the chain, clean, bright and lots of selection. Compare it to the Royal Orchard branch and you will see. Will be shame when it gets trashed to put up condos.

Very rude cashier head supervisor. She is Persian stuff I'm saying this that management recognizes her easily. I brought my empty propane tank inside for the exchange. She shout at me in front of other customers about why I brought the tank there and pointed her finger to the door and said but on the cage cage cage, you can't bring it inside. One of the other stuff said my apologies. Also, her attitude was very strange she didn't care when she understood I want to report her to the manager, was like is not important at all to me. That was my first time going there but never going there again

On behalf of the Olusoga family and the Celestial Church of Christ Fountain of Light Model Parish … thank you for accommodating our purchase to donate 50 bottles of Tide clothes washing detergent for our donation drive. Thank you to Jenn and staff, we are extremely grateful.

It has everything you ever need in your life. The prices are very very low compared to anywhere else for every kind of item you can imagine.

Place is always under staffed. Only one lane open which is always slow. The self checkout attendants don't care when it needs attention. Lottery station has nobody so have to wait when they have time which is 10 mins of waiting if you're lucky. They want to run this store with may be 2 people it's a shame they earn millions and trying to save hiring essential staff. Place is gross.

The place is very unorganized the cashier (I wish I could remmebr her name) was supper rude. Threw bags, not saying hi or anything. Give you a look and roll her eyes!

Good grocery store with reasonable prices. Variety of produce and other items. Wish they had a pharmacy or even a small section for over the counter medications like Tylenol or Advil.

Very disappointed with my visit to the store today. The store does not care or have any clear communication about health & Safety. They seem to operate as though everything is back to normal already. The cashier ended up charging me twice for one meat product that had a discount sticker. So I had to go back to get it corrected and the discount applied. (She was lovely about it) but then had to go back again to return the Naan I purchased because it was three days past the best before date. So disappointing.

Visited this store for the first time last week. It is very clean, well stocked and well laid out. I was very pleased and will be returning. This particular location seems to stock a large selection of South Asian items; other ethnic selections were about average. The only gripe I had, visiting for the first time, is that the layout of the shopping centre in which it is located is a bit confusing and its location is not immediately apparent from either Bayview or John Streets.

What’s been happening with this food basics? Everything is empty and that’s for two days straight. And if it is not empty the produce isn’t good quality. You serve a large community and should release some sort of statement to explain why you’re having such crazy shortages.

Terrible place with low quality produce and look at these empty shelves. Produce hasnt been restocked in almost a week!
04 April 2022 5:04
This store is clean, tidy, and the price is very good.when they advertise a sale, they carry a lot of that items. Good Work. Thanks.
11 June 2021 19:18
Every basic food need is here. Produce is fine to be eaten within 2-3 days or it spoils. The small garden baskets a always wonderful and inexpensive. Get them early. They go fast.
06 June 2021 15:13
I put up with the poor produce, and will pick through it. I put up with the past expiry dates and pick through it. Cheery or rude customer service is not an issue.
When I spend over 200 dollars and am told to speed up my bagging because there is a line up of people spending 40 dollars or less.
It becomes an issue.

Hate the in store commercials, organic strawberry in shelve of natural strawberry, they lef the sale sign, very confusing. Poor quality of products, some expiring in a few days, thin customer produce bags impossible to open.

Very impressed with the safe health and safety measures At this grocery store. It's my pleasure to shop there during these unprecedented times
18 May 2021 22:47
Lots of empty shelf space. 1st day of sale papers,I expected more but find this location often out of flyer items
08 April 2021 19:02
Often times the specials are not available or mis priced and something is wrong with their refrigeration as everytime I buy the salad box it spoils quickly.
06 February 2021 13:39
Prices are very good. Felt like there are too many people inside to keep distance from each other for Covid so didn't feel that safe for me. Wait time in line was fast.

Gotta love this food basics. Two grocery stores I go to are Longos on Bayview and Laureleaf, and the foodbasics at John Street and Bayview. Obviously, Longos is a nicer store. They have amazing customer service, and produce is always fresh, and they also have a great bakery inside. We get almost all our our birthday cheesecakes there, and their ricotta cannoli is soooogood! Longos uses nicer plastic bags, and foodbasics charges 5 cents per bag that rips on the way out.so I usually bring my reusable bags.to help protect our environment. Both stores have very nice workers. I have not experienced any negative service. The manager at foodbasics at John Street and Bayview is really nice. He goes out of his way to help you if you have any questions, and always with a smile. He is the one picking up stuff off the ground, and asking customers if they need anything and always with a great smile. The staff work really hard, and willing to help with what they can if you need a little help. The produce is pretty fresh, and if they are not too notch, it's on sale for really cheap. The store is kept clean and well stocked and maintained. I can always ask any employee if I can't find something, and they are happy to help.
Thank you for making my shopping experience, a good one. Keep up the great work to the Food Basics on Bayview and John Street.

Went in to pick up a couple of needed last minute items, went to cash out, and saw several self check out cashes. Thoroughly enjoyed that, as I have been doing that for years at the other competition. I hope all of Basics locations follow suit.

Cashier was very friendly and helpful. Considering the current situation I was very appreciative of the effort from the cashier to remain positive and I left with a smile on my face. Stay safe.

Food Basics is one of the very few reasons to visit Thornhill Square. This store could be cleaner and certainly be more well stocked. Frequently does not have specials on the day the flyer starts, have to give them an extra day to stock the shelves. Conveniently located close to the level crossing on Green Lane, so if approaching from the west use the first entrance off Bayview otherwise if coming eastbound use the overpass on John. The church adjacent provides a rush of customers filled with the holy spirit to overwhelm both the cashiers and parking lot on Sunday afternoon, so be sure to pack patients and smiles when shopping at that time.

Rotting fruit and vegetables, out of stock of basic stuff all the time, long lines, rude staff. Great Place! Oh yeh do not forget to ask about there clearance section.

This is a good Food Basics store. It is clean, with a huge selection. I generally tend to find everything I need when I shop at this store. Compared to other Food Basics store, I would say that this one is better than other stores. The parking is no problem, lots of parking space. The store is not easily found as it is not directly accessible from either Bayview Street or John Street. It's around the back.

This food basics has been around a long time. The store is a considered a little on the smaller size nowadays but everything is neat and basic as it could be.
26 January 2020 3:11
It like most Food Basic grocery store. Nothing special about it, a good aspect of this one is ample parking. And the time I visited this location it wasn't too busy. Would visit again if I'm in the area grocery shopping
29 July 2019 8:59
The produce on the wall is disgusting, I heard from the employees who work there that the people who work there urinate in the produce sink that they wash vegetables in and they don't disinfect in after. I hope their health and safety find out about this. I advise everyone not to buy anything from there for the sake of their health.
28 July 2019 8:04
They have a lot of ethnic food choices. Sometimes a little disorganized but overall a great place
31 May 2019 17:01
The customers are very rude and staff does not help! They just play like they dont hear or care. Awlful experience and unpleasant.
19 April 2019 15:53
Good store, but even better location. I come here because it's closest to my condo and a recycling centre is nearby.
09 March 2019 11:42
Although the prices tend to be very competitive here, the selection is quite limited compared to other comprable grocery stores.
26 February 2019 15:27
Great one stop grocery shopping and fair pricing, they just need to keep their produce in stock!
14 July 2018 1:05
Great prices, pretty good selection, helpful staff if you can find someone. But they don't reshelf the items people take from where they belong and then leave somewhere else very often it seems. You often see individual items where they don't belong, like a frozen pizza sitting on the top of the bags of potato chips, or the odd random egg carton. You have to bag the groceries yourself at checkout (but there's a checkout person doing the checkout itself) and they never seem to have enough registers open. Tons of parking available. The shopping carts require a 25 cent coin to unlock them for use. Overall, it's a good store for food shopping.
