The local grocery store. Good for most emergency shopping and the staff are very nice but wow is it a rip off. More expensive than the Loblaws in downtown Toronto. I’m not a person who would typically complain about a food item but a few weeks ago I stopped in here to buy eggs. I don’t recall the exact price or brand but the price label said say $6.59. When I went up to pay I noticed the cash out put the purchase through for $7.59. I was confused so after I paid I walked back to dbl check the price and noticed two labels, one for 6.59 and one for 7.59. After further inspection I realized that while the eggs were the same grade (large) and the same brand, the store was in fact charging more for brown eggs than white. Now, there is zero difference btw white and brown eggs other than one comes from a white chicken and one from a brown chicken. I thought there must have been a reason so I asked to speak to the manager. I asked him if this was a mistake. He said no. I asked him what justification the store had for charging more for brown eggs. He said he doesn’t set the prices and that it’s done by head office (Sobey’s). I asked if he thought it made sense, he said I wasn’t wrong and now that someone’s complained he can float it up the line. He suggested i’d get an email on this once he spoke to head office. It’s been about 3-4 weeks now and no email. Manager was a nice fellow but I would have liked a response.

There’s price gauging and then there is just plain silliness. Neither are acceptable when it comes to feeding your family but charging more for a brown egg is really it for me. More people need to not put up with this and maybe “head office” will get the message.

I always find their selection is fresh. The store hours from 7 am until 10 pm - just amazing. Whenever I need anything, they are available. For such a small town like Markdale, this is a great store to shop at, a bit on a pricey side, though.

Great store, clean, well lite, lots of selection and stock. Just lacking with customer service, no one says hi. Also very rare to have your groceries packed for you and always seems to be staff standing around at front.

Very expensive, a lot of rotting produce and some fruits especially berries. Old pkgs of salads are being sold as fresh. Not a great place to shop.foodland has no competition in Markdale so they don't care whether food is worthy of human consumption or not. The only thing they care about is the bottom line which keeps getting higher and higher. They are taking advantage of inflation. The only good thing about it is that it's clean.

Fruit is bad by the time you get home. Rotten on the inside. Too expensive. The staf are friendly that's all that's good about this store.

This is the second time when I purchased a rotisserie chicken from this store and have the inside meat undercooked. Outside looks okay but the inside the meat is undercooked. I mentioned this every time to the girl/boy in that department but they said that the owen cook automatically following the store procedure. Does anybody from the food inspection agency verify this?

Nice rural Foodland. Well stocked and organized, very fully staffed, and was easily able to find everything that I needed. Easy to access both by car and by foot.

Good local store, you will find prices a bit higher than big stores, but we support our local store as much as possible.

Prices are high but selection and quality are excellent. Large store which makes distancing and movement easy.

Honestly great store I live a block away and shop there everyday. But today was the 4th day in a month and a haph I have brought my groceries home and for the 4th time realized it was expired. This time hash browns. Expired over a week ago. Didint get any apology. Just my food replaced after I showed the manager and staff where to find the hashbrowns in the store to replace them. Beautiful store friendly staff. But guys there is health codes in the food industry those dates are legally there for a reason

Front counter staff is very friendly.
Good to see there's 2 water / sanitation stations (fountains) at the store - one is located at the entrance of the store and another ones is across from the cash register stations, nearby the exit.
Rarely see this type of stations at most of the supermarkets.

It is a very clean well staffed store, but unfortunately being a senior their prices are out of my range

The new store is large, clean and well stocked. Lots of bakery and ready made food options for lunch or snacks on the go. Truly worth a visit on your way to your cottage in the Bruce. Produce is fresh and decent pricing.

Most of the staff is so helpful and friendly. But the prices are high and I'd advise to avoid the in store meat slicing section.

Always clean and the staff are courteous open 24 hours. They are open on holidays not 24 hrs but they were open until 8: 00 pm.

I feel sorry for the people in the area who have little choice but to pay the ridiculously high and extortionary prices on many items at this Foodland. On the bright side, the staff is very friendly and helpful.

You can find "beyond meat" here but not Canadian veal or lamb. Lets instead eat fake meat and imported lamb at $16/lb. Will never go back.

BUT - I worry for the safety of the staff in these covid times. The last time I was there, a lot of shoppers were not practising social distancing. Arrows on the floor were being disregarded, and people were passing each other in the aisles. I saw only one shopper with a mask, and the whole time I was there, I heard a man coughing his way through the store.

Perhaps update your website for change of hours. Went out tonight at a time where I thought few people would be around.found out the hours have been changed.

Brand new building with lots of square feet allowing for a huge amount of goods of so many different kinds. Family business for family needs.

Typical small town grocery store. Which is great! You pay a little more because it's really the only game in town. But you are always getting good quality with great service. The reason for the 3 stars and the only complaint is the small parking lot for the amount of traffic. Tim Hortons is right next door so it's a tight squeeze. Other then that it's an awesome little store to resupply for your road trip.

Same friendly cashier.know a few long time ladies. We were squeezing by each other.busy Fri after work. Casually said to a young guy.nice once we get our new store. He had no idea. Asked if the land being cleared nearby was the site. Young people don't read papers any more. Where are the signs?

Have lived on the outskirts of town now for 15 years & shop here only on specials & when it's absolutely necessary. They have some good deals on meat specials, otherwise over priced & there produce prices are almost worth driving 45 mins to bigger hubs. They would do better busy if there prices were in line with other grocery stores or at least close!

Shop here regularly- real good store. Prices are affordable, store is well organized and clean real friendly local staff and great hometown feel. Thats the benefit of shopping local- even if the prices are slightly cheaper in the corporate stores in bigger towns, you can’t beat knowing everyone by name and being surrounded by people who actually care about each other, not to mention not having to drive 30 minutes 1 way! Nothing compares to good old fashioned hometown service!

Astronomically overpriced. I guess being the only game in town allows you to gouge the locals.
On a positive note, the staff are all very friendly, I just cannot afford to shop there.
