Honestly the hot food counter where they make sandwiches is extremely disappointing. The food tastes delicious and the menu is great, however from my experience they continuously make my order wrong.
My favorited item on the menu is the prime rib sandwich which clearly says what’s on it, yet they’ve gotten it wrong multiple times. It’s extremely disappointing to come home with my food that cost almost $30 for 2 people just to have it missing things or things added that weren’t supposed to be in it.
Anyways, now I know I need to check my food before leaving the counter to ensure it’s how it’s supposed to be made.
I wanted to give Chris behind the pizza counter a shout out for his great customer service! He was helpful and friendly and fast. Great customer service Chris!
I had to edit this review and downgrade to 3 starts. Mostly, it's good there, but in the Deli, where they have full meals, soups and sandwiches, the staff is clearly not happy to be working there. The attitudes with 2 ladies there, one the manager, another prep, is less that customer oriented. The food is supposed to be ready by 11am and customers know this. But more often than not, now, they are not even ready!
We had to wait until 11: 15 or so for the food to come out and that was with a grumpy attitude from both the manager lady and the other lady who is always grumpy.
They were RUDE to customers, as though it was the customers who were the cause of THEIR inability to be prepared.
It opens at 11am! HOW MUCH TIME DO THEY NEED from when the store opens (7 am I think) until 11!?
Also, the soups are often cold. Forget about asking them to heat t up, because, supposedly, they don't have a microwave there to do it!
Service has gone downhill, so we eat elsewhere now, where our patronage is appreciated!
Disgusted. November 26 around 5pm. Just watched some kid working in the hot lunches area go to clean the glass.well he proceeded to spray the glass cleaning chemicals right over top of the food then use the rag he just used to clean the glass, now covered in chemicals, and his bare hands while he's been cleaning to push the food back into their trays.
Haven't had any major issues here but this was really disappointing to see.
The Panera Pizza place inside the Fortinos is absolutely delicious, the dough alone is super tasty and worth the drop by. The employees are also pretty friendly, Fortinos as a whole is well kept and stocked. I'm not sure if its due to the time that I shop but the lines are always moving quickly and I have never had a huge queue time.
I hade a horrible experience at Fortinos Eastgate a few weeks ago, would have posted before this but had been waiting for 2weeks for manager to call me back as he said, Instead I called him. He lost my phone number. I was grocery shopping and had2 different orders one for an elderly neighbour. I paid for the first order with my debit. While still putting the 2nd order through I noticed my new scarf, a gift had fallenoff my ja cket. There was 4 fortino employees hanging around thhe selfcheckout but no shoppers at any of the machines. I asked if someone could help me find my scarf as I though it was lying in one of the isles. I walked round the customer care desk and was jumped by atall thin dark haired employee who wrestle my cart awya turned out my 2card didnt go through. I h
Fortinos has on site baked bread, cranberry fig walnut my fav. Such fresh produce, meat, and magificient varieties in stock. Pharmacy, clothing center with bargains, and single flower to exquisite, floral arrangements, in birch, ceramic, and tiny cute ansembles. Sparkling away right now with Christmas season, with all staff, very willing to go the extra mile to show us where items are.
There is a young lady that I’ve encountered by the name of Emma. She is the most amazing worker and is an outstanding “manager”. She’s so customer focused. Every time I see her when I’m in, she’s a “take charge” kind of person. She’s polite, and really understands the value of customer service. I had an issue with price discrepancy once for pickles and she resolved the issue in a flash. She’s also constantly on the move, never have I seen her slowing down. Fortinos, I hope you recognize the value of this young lady because this level of leadership is hard to find. She’s got the personality and self-directed leadership that organization are looking for. Thank you Emma for your hard work. As a regular customer, I value your dedication and I hope Fortinos management does too.
Been shopping at this location for years. Prices getting higher and higher. Very soon we won't be able to shop here, period. Price of cantalope at $5.99 and a mango for 2.49 is unconscionable. No where else are they priced so high. That's what I mainly come for. Just because they are a bit bigger and better quality is no reason to squeeze the dollars and cents out of people that are just trying to make ends meet and eat healthy.
Better up that service level and lower those prices back to pre-pandemic - to keep us here coming back! Border opens soon and competition is looming, again! Tops and Walmart here we come! Had enough of this adhering to the worse of the worse - that’s for sure!
Staff didn't know where there own products are, bought 18 eggs and had to check many cartons as lots were broken, did not sanitize self check out between customers
Do not go to Fortinos! They have taken the already ridiculous mandates from the government to an extreme, they wont recognize mask exemptions and will confront you upon entering to wear a face shield or kick you out of the store. Not to mention the ridiculous red massive signs all around the store. Absolutely ridiculous do the research - this is insanity. Freshco is a good choice and will respect exemptions.
I went to get some pizza, I asked for heading the pizza up a little bit mor they looked at me as if was asking to build a rocket. The pizza was cold not what I had ask for, to tap it up a got the nasty looked ever. No happy!

i don't shop at fortinos-eastgate much anymore because i have moved from the east end to downtown back in 2007, so i do my shopping more at dundurn and occasionally at mall road.fortinos is not cheap however you get what you pay for, and the selection of items is top notch.i stopped in recently and not much has changed.the tenets of quality meats and produce, sparkling clean aisles, great selection of grocery items and a european ambiance continue to this day.the also have a nice hot food section along with hot and cold drinks.the store itself is modern and in excellent condition.i personally knew staff from the past and most have them have either retired or moved on to other locations.when i do go in i find the staff overall to be polite and friendly.true story, back in 2009 i lost my wallet in the store.i filed a police report and the station recommended me to go to fortinos since that was the last place i had my wallet with me.after backchecking with fortinos staff they had it in possession.everything was returned to me intact.bottom line: i would recommend fortinos-eastgate to others, and would use the store again if i was in the area.
Fortinos is a great local grocery store. While it is one of the more expensive in terms of price point. It does make it up with quality of food stuffs it sells. From higher quality cuts of meat, to fish, to cheeses that are available.
Its well laid out, has a lot of good options for people who want organic and vegan options. This particular Fortinos also has a large selection of beer and cider.
Fortinos is one of the best grocery stores. The produce is great. Might cost a bit more, but the quality of produce, meats and fish is great. Will continue to shop there. Only go to other stores for things that are on sale.
Fresh veggies and fruit and whole foods can be alot more expensive than many other stores most of the time. (Ie. Peppers / lettuce / strawberrys etc). But usually can depend on them having most of grocery items one may be looking for most of the time especially essential gluten free + vegan + organic options. And decent dating on them (whole food or boxed or frozen or refrigerated) to get in one stop if in a crunch. And usually not super crowded so easier to get in and out.
Line ups seem to be standard at this location at night.there is never enough people at the cash register which is not OK. Very disappointed to wait 25 min to cash out.
Good stock of items and fresh vegetables and fruits with prices just slightly higher than No Frills along with the manned deli counter make this one of my preferred places to shop. Have dealt with the manager once (unknowingly) and was pleasantly surprised. Will shop here again.
Do not shop here if you value your rights. For a manger to call the police for a medically exempt person and not serve them for their essential foods is disgusting. There are many more grocery stores that treat their customers with dignity.
After me learning about how much disrespect and torture my friend received at this particular store (because they don't honor mask exemptions in accodance with local bylaw #20-155), and me noticing the same sad signs I saw at other fortinos locations, I will take my friend's advice and check out walmart instead, and I will avoid this fortinos store 100%. I feel absolutely sorry for the homeless people because even they can't enter the store to buy a food item because they don't have money for a face shield or a mask let alone a cigarette.
Large, clean and well stocked. When you ask where something is located, the clerks walk you there. It's amazing. Also, staff are very polite and appear to like their jobs.
Covid is still a thing. No lineup to get in, packed to the gills inside, checkout line going halfway around the inside of the store with every till open. I would rather wait 10 minutes to get in, and have a safer shopping experience.
Its pricey but you pay for great selection, great produce and Pane Fresco hot foods are better then any other hot food tables at any other grocery chain.
You must bring a grocery list. Between the Pane Fresco and the bakery at the east entrance, you instantly forget why and what you came in the store for. Toss in the sushi stand and the coffee counter, it wouldn't be the worst thing if you give up on grocery shopping, grab food from the counters and try again the next day
Staff was not helpful or friendly at all, except for MacKenzie. Also not allowing buggies to go out the one side of the store is a huge hassle and the buggies being on the opposite side of where you come into the store is very inconvenient! Way too much walking for someone with bad knees! Will not be going back.
The doors are locked to an open mall, causing a group to form (2020 issues). Items are often relocated. However, if you need it, or didn't know you need it, this store has it.
I love buying fruits and veggies from this store. They are nice and fresh. Plus this Fortinos has quite a bit of West Indian grocery. I also like that they sell fresh fish.
I enjoy shopping at Fortinos. I always find what I need. Being an Italian, Fortinos stocks all the products that traditionally are part of the Mediterranean diet. But their stock also includes products of various European backgrounds. I appreciate their adherence to Covid 19 protocols but checkout is always quick and efficient.
Very disappointed to see an employee in the produce dept.not wearing is mask over his nose. 5 employees have been reported with covid and still this was occurring. I was very disappointed!
This store has almost everything I need! Store workers are nice as well! Most what I like, it's a Sushi place! There is a very good sushi in this store!
Fortinos has everything! Obscure ingredients, vegan products, dim sum, freshly made salads.you name it. Probably the best cake and bakery counters of all grocery stores. They are a little more expensive than some, but because they carry so much stuff, there is almost always something on sale you can use for a budget meal. I love their store-made donuts, cinnamon buns and salad bowls, and there are specialty counters for pizza, gourmet sandwiches, sushi, bread and more where you can get fresh food (some hot) or grab a coffee while you wander the store. There's a huge deli and produce department then the actual grocery store which carries a vast selection of goods including lots of international cooking ingredients. They've always had wine section, now you can pick up beer and cider too which is nice. This is one of their smaller stores but it still has a great range of products, the staff is friendly and they know their products. The store is always clean, there are carts and baskets ready and even scooters if you need one. Or want one? I'm not sure, but I like the idea if zipping around the store in a scooter while I shop. All in all, a really nice store. It may cost a bit more to grab groceries here but you'll always get quality items and be able to find that one thing nobody else carries.
It's a great store with an excellent selection. They have all natural, organic and international products. The store is always clean and we'll stocked. The staff is polite and helpful. The pharmacy is great with quick service. I never had a less than excellent experience here
