Fox Theatre

The floor is wonky and everything looks a bit shabby, but they show great films at great prices. Very much worth getting a membership for the added discount and perqs.

This is probably my favourite place in the city. Not just theatre, favourite place. My only complaint is that they got rid of the Inner Circle membership, please bring it back so I can go to the fox 7 times a week!

Great little local throw back theatre! Perfect place to see some retro movies while enjoying the popcorn and a glass of wine but holy smokes can the audience be a little pretentious from time to time! ;) LOL

A long-established local movie theater loved by locals. The old-fashioned interior design is nostalgic and nice. It is also the venue for various special screenings and indie film festivals, and you can often see rare films.

Incredibly annoyed at the fact that I bought popcorn, pop and candy totalling $18 but then was charged $21 on the debit machine. I asked why as it seemed high and the server said that candy is expensive… I added all the total and it was $18. I asked the server to show me my receipt and it said $18.34. I asked why he charged me $21 on the debit machine and he said it was a “system thing” and he could show me. I didn’t want to hold up the line so I said forget it. Ruined my experience. Overall the theatre is great, the movies they show are awesome but I am frustrated.

Edit: the reply below is incorrect as my bank charge on my card shows $24.98. This would be $21.72 plus a 15% tip. There is no reason why I should have been charged an extra $3 and frankly the business should be able to provide an itemized receipt showing totals for costs of their product. I didn’t even get an itemized receipt after asking for it.

Great indie theatre in The Beaches. Programming is great and feels like a good, genuine theatre.

Very cute and tucked away theatre in east Toronto. Has re runs of some older movies and ones that you can't find in normal Cineplexes. Seats were very comfy.

The Fox is the first theatre in Toronto and has been operating since 1914! It's a beautiful one screen theatre in the beaches. I went for my first time a few weeks ago to see the 4K remaster of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon! A film I hadn't seen since I was a kid and it still holds up today, there was magnificent brilliance in the screening and it was so wonderful to be in this classic theatre! The seats were very cosy, the screen was a good size and the staff were really nice! The popcorn was also delicious I got a bag after the movie and devoured the whole thing in minutes! Can't wait to see more here! You can get a membership too so if you live in the neighborhood it's a good option if you love going to the movies!

A lively, older theatre. Great for seeing independent movies and blockbusters. Beer & wine available for consumption during movie. Good deals on food and drink.

One of the remaining old style movie theatres in Toronto. Curated film choices, comfy seats, great popcorn. So much more character than a Cineplex.

The Fox used to be my favourite place to watch any movie but after the mask mandates were lifted and they continued to enforce BOTH masks AND vaccination passports they quickly fell from top ranking to non-existent on my list. Being virtuous by blindly following a criminal, un-legislative, divisive and discriminatory unnecessary/unscientific vax passport is disgusting.

Went back cause I decided to rewatch a movie I had originally seen in IMAX so my expectations were low, but the picture quality and sound are actually great. It was even in high frame rate, which was a pleasant surprise, so I decided to give them an extra star.

My preferred place to watch a movie! Comfy seats, ample space, Good sound, Small crowds (usually).

Love this local theatre.its been nicely renovated, but kept much of its original decor and charm. Showing new AND 2nd run films as well as vintage classics.

The fox is a great place to catch a movie that you might have missed in the cineplex. It's an old school movie house with one screen that shows a different movie during each show time. The prices are reasonable and the concessions are better than anything you will find in a chain theater, including beer.

Amazing popcorn! Yeah, they don’t have the most up-to date selection on movies but who cares to wait a few weeks for a showing when they sell alcoholic beverages and have the best popcorn you could ask for! I also love that you can still hear the movie while in the washroom, so you don’t end up missing too much of the movie.

This business is still continuing to “follow the science” but their own science. Ontario dropped their mandate since March 21 and fox theatre is still continuing to support segregation a month later. Sad

The Fox is one of those great combinations of things that push it beyond being just a business. Being a vintage building with cool details is one thing, but it's the staff that make it feel like home away from home. That popcorn is second to none in Toronto, nice choices for beverages both non alcoholic and alcoholic, the seats are comfortable and there's lots of leg room. I always wait for movies to turn up at the Fox and they put in interesting alternative programming too.

I went to the theater to watch the oscars on the big screen. It was like going backwards several months because we had to find our vaccination records. The pop corn and beer special was ok, a bit expensive for my liking, the seats were quite small. Overall my experience wasn't bad.

I dont want to go to any place that supports discrimination. Not letting in the unvaccinated means I can no longer bring my daughter. Because she is not vaccinated doesn't mean she spreads the disease that's her personal choice and you was a business if she's vaccinated or not.

I went and saw one of the classic movies with my Wife a few months ago. We loved the old theatre, everything from the charming curtains to the comfortable seats. It felt like we were in a simpler time. The special was great, popcorn is fantastic. Highly recommend

A historic indie neighbourhood cinema with comfy seats, great sound and picture, and of course excellent popcorn! Movie selection is always on point, you can discover lots of new favourites here. Classic movie-going experience, and affordable! They also have wine and beer.

The Fox is a fantastic theatre and a treasured Toronto institution! Love the films they show and their popcorn is the best!

So delighted to have local craft beers on tap (e.g, Left Field Brewery!) with my popcorn while sitting in a historic theatre watching classic/cult films remade for 3D in the 21st century. The seating is roomy and the staff are friendly. It's such a treat. I hope places like this never stop existing.

I used to live in the apartment above this theater as a kid; had many good times popping down to catch a show.

We love the Fox! Have been coming here for years. Such a cool theatre and all the big blockbuster movies plus quirky independent films and art house stuff. Staff are always super friendly and helpful, too.

This cinema theatre is an icon in my books, the memories are still fresh even after years ago. Never change.

Went for a private event, venue is nice and the seats are comfortable. Food prices are pretty good

LOVE the Fox. When we moved to Toronto the first thing we looked for was a good independent theatre, and the Fox was perfect. The screen is a great size and the popcorn is delightful. Memberships are only like $10 and members can see movies for $7 on Tuesdays. That’s really hard to beat. When it’s easy to spend like $25 for a movie at Cineplex I can’t see why you would go anywhere other than the Fox. It’s such a wonderful old theatre and the movie specials are great too – we caught a Vincent Price double feature last year which was so cool.
Only tiny complaint is that sometimes you can here a clicking sound from the neighbors, but it's not bad and I'm assuming it's outside of their control.
OH and they also usually have some kind of Left Field beer which is awesome as well.

My wife and I enjoy coming here for unique movies that aren't in the big cinemas in wide release. We also enjoy their Oscars night every year! Great theatre and the interior is historic!

This place is a landmark of The Beaches. We are lucky to have it in our neighborhood. Come here if you want to enjoy a exquisite glass of beer or wine while watching a movie with affordable prices.

Quaint little theatre in the east end of Toronto. Comes complete with creaky old seats that are very comfy and have good leg room too.

There's only one screen in the theatre. Movies are not new releases but are current.

An enjoyable night out. Beer and cider available in the concession stand with popcorn.

This theatre is the jewel of The Beaches. Constantly rotating new and classic films, it is truly a vintage theatre experience.

Theater (Theatre?) with soul and character in the east end of the city - Definitely worth checking out

This a surprisingly good theatre. It's not got one screen and its smaller than your usual Ciniplex but the seats were very comfortable. They show a mix of big budget films and smaller films that might not get shown elsewhere.

Walking into this theatre is always a walk into nostalgia. Those days when theatres were comfortable velvet seats and the sound is not so loud that it damages your hearing.

While I love the little modernization additions they have done over the last few years, the changes such as the loss of equipment from the "olden days" that served as a reminder to the history of the place is truly disappointing.

While I always have a wonderful time when I make it to the Fox Theatre, the absence of information on the website (even about such small things as to if you can still buy tickets at the theatre) and the subjective closing of the concession stand "halfway through the film" (even saying an needing an hour till the film finished was inaccurate) probably should be more publicized and also maybe a bit more standardized.

All in all, a true to this locale is a wonderful experience especially given the one-off cult films of yesteryear that they screen.

The seats were incredibly comfortable. There is plenty of leg room and the seats even recline a little. The arm rests can be lifted up so you can cuddle with your date as well. The bathrooms are really close and the concessions are reasonably priced (a large popcorn and large pop for around $10).

The extremely affordable yearly membership is very worth getting as well.

I absolutely love this spot. We will DEFINITELY be returning regularly.

One of my favourite places to watch a movie in the east end. Lovely old theatre that has been modernized just enough to make it comfortable. Wonderful that they have local tea, and craft brews on hand. Popcorn is usually good, and the staff are always pleasant. If the floor was a little more "stadium sloped" it would be five stars.

It was a while since I was there -and was really happy to discover the chairs have been replaced for very comfortable reclining chairs. Reasonably priced tickets and popcorn too. Two thumbs up!

This is a great place to see a movie! A family run cinema that chooses the movies you can't see at the multiplex. The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere retro chic. You can even purchase beer or wine to go with the popcorn. What a treat!

I have been going to the fox for over 25 years! While I miss the monthly Blade Runner showings I am happy that they are still in in to win it

Great staff, they really know their movies, if you want to have a chat about the Marvel franchise or obscure beasts of the southern wild! Great seats, clean, good popcorn, several cold beer - really why are we going to mainstream movie houses?

Gotta love going to a movie at the Fox! The old style theatre makes it a fun and different experience. Prices are fair, you can buy wine or beer at the concession stand, and there's lots of local restaurants nearby to make a great dinner and movie night! The theatre is old, the seats a little worn, but in my opinion, it's all part of its charm. I always enjoy going to support this local business.

Love the Fox! Over 100 years old and honours and maintains its history. The heating pipes rattle once in a while and is kinda part of the experience! Very reasonable with prices and if a member, great deals on tickets and concessions. Has community events.like free Oscar night with prizes.and features indie films and themed weeks with holidays. People are quiet and there to experience the film. Staff are friendly and welcoming! Try it out!
