Incredible portion sizes for the price! Apparently one dish per person was way too much and I ended up having to pack a whole dish to go. I definitely recommend this place for high quality sushi and Korean cuisine at a reasonable price.
Nice place to share with family and friends or just two of us to have dinner. Food is decent and plenty of free dishes like soup, salad, cold noodle, honey roasted potatoes and kimchi etc
Went to Gal's as i heard decent things about them from friends.
The atmosphere is nice and typical of a Japanese restaurant. With a selection of booths and a few open space tables
We ordered bentos for our lunch and the potions were good, however it appeared that the glass noodles weren't that fresh as they were all stuck in a big clump.
The server was attentive and our orders arrived in a timely fashion. Meal was reasonably priced, fresh (asides from the glass noodles) and good.
We went to Gal’s on Friday, July 28th, 2023. We ordered two platters and we were quickly disgusted when we noticed flies in our soy sauce. We checked inside the soy sauce bottle and it was full of flies. After telling our waitress about this issue, she simply told us oh so many flies this time of the year, it happens. Not the response we expected as flies are not okay in our food. After the people at the table beside us left, we also checked their soy sauce and the same issue, a bunch of flies in the soy sauce.
First time there, the people that invited us vouched for this place as being "the best Sushi in town". Our waitress was so polite and helpful, the food was well prepared, smoking hot, and very tasty. Overall a great experience.
Their side dishes are the best and I like their Bibimbap Hot Pot Rice because of the variety of food in it, as it comes with many different kinds of vegetables.
I wish they have more options to choose from in terms of their bento boxes!
Food quality is superb, no doubt there. But for the last 5 years I've come here the staff attitude could use some work. Aside from the owner, the staff's attitude are consistently just not really up to standard expecations.
Terrible experience.my friend and i have went there twice and the first time we ordered some sashimi pieces and noticed that it was dark and looked absolutely disgusting.we didn’t eat the rest but paid anyways.we returned back to the store two weeks later wanting to give the restaurant a second chance just to find BONE inside the sashimi! We called the waiter over and informed her about it.she took it to the back and came back with no apology but just to tell us that we were wrong and that it wasn’t bone? ! Terrible terrible service and attitude from the waiter.we had to seat ourselves as well ️
also the restaurant is NOT SANITARY AT ALL! Forks and plates were dirty with food still stuck to it, and tables were sticky.
No matter how many bad reviews this place gets, it will continue to be packed with customers; but I have had too many intolerable and annoying experiences with this place that it has accumulated up to a point where I am writing this review. Service: mediocre at best, the staff don’t have an attitude but are not nice and courteous either. When it gets busy, they are extremely ignorant. One time I called to place an order, I didn’t even finish my order yet and the waitress just gave me a number and hung up… like seriously? The only thing good about this place is that they are very lenient on substitutions. If you wanted to change all your sashimi to salmon sashimi in your bento, you can do that for an up charge. Food: I thought I was the only one who got extremely bloated from eating here, but after I came here with friends, it wasn’t just me. I don’t know what they add to their sushi that made my friends and I this way (we only ordered sushi and rolls) but also I don’t want to accuse them of using MSG as I don’t have clear cut evidence. The only thing that has kept me coming here in the past is their spicy salmon rolls and their combination platters which were tasty but I just kept getting so thirsty after eating it. Also, the rolls and the sushi have gotten smaller ever since COVID-19, before they were small but now they’re even smaller. Overall, I wouldn’t go back again after discovering new sushi places. The quality of fish they use is mediocre and the portions have gotten smaller. However, the lunch boxes are not bad since they are pretty inexpensive. Also, parking is a pain in this area.
I felt compelled to review Gal's Sushi because this has been a restaurant we order from (for years) wherever we feel like eating sushi. I think we gravitate to this restaurant because they are consistent with their services and quality. Thank you Gal's!
Gal’s has been around for a long time and is a classic markham establishment for sushi. They have been around for awhile and for good reason, they always satisfy the sushi cravings and are always consistent with the taste and quality. Service was good and never any issues whenever I have gone and good service goes a long way. Definitely recommend going to them! The parking lot can get quite full fast, and where the restaurant is located, with a full parking lot, it could be best to go along if you’re doing takeout. Great job overall!

Gal sushi we love your lunch specials. Our family loves you sushi and staff.espcially Charlie. Thanks Charlie for remembering our order and being so happy and fast. See you soon.mmmmm sushi. The Mitchells
One of my favourite local sushi places in Markham. The quality is better than average and worth the price if you want something nice without being ridiculously expensive.
Hard to find a better sushi bento box anywhere else. The price is fair, the portion is large, and the quality is always great. With the Japanese/Korean fusion, you can get things like the bulgogi with your sushi.
This place is SOOOOOO GOOD! THE chicken katsu was the best I've had anywhere in markham in so long! They give you so many other dishes to start! Sushi was amazing! Staff was so friendly! I can't wait to return
Ordered two lunch boxes with my friend and mine was great! It was tasty and I would definitely recommend it! Other items on the menu seems pricey though.
The fish here is always very fresh. A great dine-in, date night, or take-out option that offers better-than-average quality sushi at an affordable price point. Will visit again!
Gals is locally known and have been in business for quite some time.quality is definitely better then most places around the area. I would recommend if you are in the area and feeling for sushi.go for it!
I came here for the first time on a Friday night to pick up takeout.
I decided to go with the following:
T1 4 rolls (24pc) 2 spicy salmon rolls 1 yam roll (sub for the crab roll $1 extra) 1 dynamite roll
plus 3 yam rolls for my sister as well as some spicy mayo. My bill was about $53, since I was paying cash, I got a 10% off discount.
Overall, I really like the quality of food here, it tastes so fresh and delicious! The service was also really great! I met the owner charlie who was so friendly and funny.
If I'm in Markham again, I think I'll definitely be back!
I used to have gals sushi a lot, like couple years ago. The food quality is not as good as before. Sashimi is not fresh: ( The good thing is you can order both Korean and Japanese food here.
Ordered to go today, amazing food and very well organized place with Covid 19 protocols in place. Paying cash saves you 10%. Another go to place from now on.
One of my fav for sushi at markham area. The deluxe sashimi sushi maki platters are the MUST try. The variety of seafood will surprise u with the price ur paying.
Ordered twice in the last month. Gotta say they are pretty good considering the pice and the quality. It's quite fresh and won't break my wallet for my sushi cravings they are very efficient with the order process
Very neat and welcoming restaurant.big portions for the price. Nice staff, friendly know their menus well. We needed help ordering our food since some fish we were not interested in. Highly recommended.
I ordered for pickup by phone and was told my order will be ready in 25 mins.and when I got there, I still needed to get in line outside for 30 mins.and inside for another 20. And when it is my turn to pay I still have to wait another 10mins for my food to be given to me.and I just ordered 1 donburi and takoyaki. Same experience for others who ordered there, or ordered online or by phone. Worse is that inside, there is minimal to no social distancing and probably exceeded the number of people allowed (during covid lockdown). A lot of people in the line complained.
The food was okay but it is not worth 1.5 hours of waiting.
Before the pandemic, this is my Go-To spot to have family lunch. It's modern, clean and with good services and the lunch special has a wide variety of selections and great prices. Prior to the pandemic, most lunch special comes with a complimentary miso soup and fresh salad along with your lunch choice.
But with the take out, they no longer provide miso soup and salad, but it's ok, we understand there are more packaging and containers when in take out so although I miss the miso soup, I understand just having the lunch special itself.
For take out, we like to order the Lunch Special, L4 (sashimi + sushi). It's fresh and quite filling. And during this pandemic, if pay cash, they give you 10%. So, it's a good deal.
Highly recommend this place for take out to continue to support local and eat local businesses.
Ordered 2 salmon sushi rolls for the kid, and a tempura bento for myself. Portions were generous, fish was fresh and lunch was so delicious! They paid attention to the notes I made and we are so happy! Thank you Gal's Sushi!
Picked up some take out from Gal’s sushi and it was great! Very efficient in the process of picking up your order, everything went smoothly, the prices are very reasonable and sushi tastes delicious, definitely would order again!

Have been here a few times for lunch and their sushi, sashimi and roll bento box lunch special is by far the best deal! If, on the other hand, you are craving Korean food, this is definitely not the place to go.
We ordered a $250 lunch for our office and the sashimi still had the belly of the salmon attached.lots of great places in the area, don't waste your time
I’ve been coming here for years. Food is delicious and very fresh. The menu is quite extensive, they offer Japanese and Korean dishes.
They have great lunch specials; you can also customize some of the items in the boxes ($1 charge for all salmon sashimi and $1 charge to switch my rolls to California). They used to give free dessert (fruit and ice cream) included with the bento boxes but they don’t anymore.
Service is mediocre, nothing special. Waters were not filled, had to look around for a server when we needed drinks, napkins, or even the bill. Atmosphere was not ideal, it was extremely loud. They seem to cram all tables into one section, instead of spreading diners around the restaurant.
Their food was cold and it wasn’t fresh. It looked terrible and the taste was average. I regret eating there. Don’t believe its stars. It was my worst sushi experience ever.
Consistent quality of sushi/sashimi, great selection and good prices! Atmosphere is very family friendly, and service is efficient (but not always friendly or helpful on weekends when they get super busy and they are understaffed). A great local spot to get a sushi fix!
Been going here for years now. The quality seems to be going up, noticed that the sashimi and sushi tastes more fresh and flavorful. However, prices are also going up too.so gets expensive to come here too often.
It's very rare that you get served an entre 'on the house' but this place went out of there way too make my date night go well. Thanks for that. Great food and even better service
One of our Go-for restaurants! Every time we have a craving for fresh and delicious sashimi, sushi, and maki, we have never been disappointed. Good value for exotic cuisine.
It does get a little noisy when dinners are have a great time, so we usually just get ours to go.
We got TORO hand rolls (on the house) from the host (Charlie) to celebrate our save return from our Honeymoon. We felt extra special and really appreciate the generous gesture.
Thank you Gal's Sushi for bringing us authentic Japanese and Korean cuisine.
Nice little sushi restaurant looking out onto highway 7. It was nice to get away from the all you can eat style and back into higher quality Japanese and Korean cuisine and actually savor the fish.
The sashimi was fantastic, not sure what the two white fish on my plate were, but the tuna was definitely my favourite. Prior to sashimi I had seaweed salad, interesting salad but always one to try. And we also ordered a couple bento boxes that were nice. One downside to the bento boxes is allergies, one member of my party had a crab allergy and assumed the mentorship box rolls would be the same as the picture on the menu.
