This is a very delicious sushi place that’s been consistently good for over 15 years at least. It is not a $$ place - a good dinner will take you back $45-60 person, depending on the amount of food you order. However, the quality is superb and the service is attentive. I love their bulgogi dinner, japche and caterpillar roll. It is quiet and intimate and always delicious.
We ordered here for take out as recommended by a friend. It did not disappoint, one of the fresh and best quality sushi we have tasted.
- We have ordered the Large party tray (for 4-5 ppl) with sashimi (35 pcs), sushi (30 pcs) and maki roll (28 pcs) for take out, and it was plated beautifully. It comes with miso soups and salads on the side individually packaged for each person. - Portion was enough for 4 of my very hungry friends. - Service was fast and they were very polite. We walked in and the ambiance was great, had japanese style decor, and it looked very clean, we will try to dine in next time. - Prices were reasonable for the quality you get. It was $139 before tax for my order. Bonus for take outs, you get 10% off when you pay cash! (orders over $20)
Sushi always tastes incredible and very fresh. Chef clearly takes great pride in presentation and consistency. Authentic experience with great service.
I’ve been to a lot of sushi restaurants in Toronto and this small hole-in-the-wall place on the border of Vaughan and Toronto is my favourite. Not the cheapest sushi, but when it comes to freshness and flavour I’ve yet to find anything close to as good for the money. Would highly recommend.
Some of the best sushi in the city, downtown included. Fresh, rice is always perfect (which I find is a marker of good sushi spots) service is great. It’s in a very unassuming area but don’t let the location fool you.
We had a birthday dinner here about a week ago. Being the first time at Genji we wanted a bit of variety. Apps were soft shell crab, beef sashimi & tempura. A couple of the medium sush & maki and sashimi party trays. Along with some cold ginjo sake.the appetizers were amazing. Tempura was just the right crunch and melt in your mouth. The sashimi was deliciously fresh so tasty! It's a 5. The maki and sushi about a 4. Service was nice but go early else it seems to fill up quickly and we went on a Tuesday. I will be back when in the neighborhood.
Sushi was amazing. Bento dinner C was more than enough food and I was starving! Food was fresh and service was courteous. The place is pretty small and personal but they make efficient use of the space. I wish I had taken a photo but i was working and was in a bit of a rush so I didn't exactly Savour the wonderful meal. Definitely will come back whenever I'm in the area. Sushi lovers must try this place is a hidden gem!
Have been a regular of this place for the past 7+ years. Make almost monthly visits. Don't bother with all the reviews talking about particular sushi restaurants in the downtown core as being "the best" Genji Sushi is literally THE BEST sushi restaurant in Toronto - hands down! The rice portions on the roll are just right. Fresh ingredients and you never feel full or dry-mouth after eating here. Our favourites are Hawaiian Volcano, Fantastic, Tiger, Miami. The spicy gyoza, salmon pizza, and chapchae are solid as starters. Really this place deserves 4.5 stars. The only reason it doesnt get 5 stars, is because I have seen the regression over the years, where they used to provide a healthy serving of their patented spicy mayo on the side, to only providing 1 per person, to now charging a full $1 per serving. This is not cheap sushi and is worth every penny, but to charge for the spicy mayo is a cash-grab unworthy of this distinguished restaurant. Otherwise.best sushi in GTA!
We got chicken teriyaki + sashimi lunch, good prices and easily the best fish I’ve had in the last 5 if not 10 years. My daughter got avocado rolls and they were fat with fresh avocado. Veggie tempura was tasty as were the miso soup, salad and edamame. Really impressed with the quality of this food, would (already have) recommend and will eat there again when I’m back in town.
The food and customer service at Genji sushi was exceptional. I placed a large order from Genji and they went above and beyond to accommodate the needs and timing for our event. The chef came in extra early on the day of to prepare the order. I would like to extend a big thank you once again to the whole team at Genji!
Just got our takeout order. The sushi rolls are fresh & delicious. This place never disappoints. Presentation & service in point! Thanks for this yummy sushi
I eat here all the time - servers are super friendly and polite! It can get quite busy, and the crowd can get a little odd sometimes (weird, older men flirting with the servers lol) but the food is great (I always get salmon chirashi which is delightfully fresh and the spicy bulgogi bento which is really great value and ACTUALLY spicy.) Their miso soup is good, which is always a good marker by which to judge a Japanese place, and the fruit they serve with the bento is always fresh and sweet. I truly believe it is the little things like this that set otherwise ubiquitous Japanese restaurants apart from one another - if you as a restaurant pay attention to the small things, you definitely know what you're doing.
If you want quality sushi, sashimi and rolls. This is the place. I like spicy rolls and their spicy mayo is good. I like the thin layer of rice and love the option for brown rice. I have done takeout and have dined in and always happy. Even service has been great. So bottom line. There is a thing as bad and good sushi and this is phenomenal!
The atmosphere was very calming and peaceful. The restaurant was very clean and enjoyable. The staff were very friendly. The food quality is great too! 10/10
Sushi is close to my heart. That wasn't always the case, but you come to love the stuff after friends drag you to enough Asian restaurants. So read on to see how Genji Sushi ranks atop my sushi experiences.
Genji Sushi is a small to medium sized sushi restaurant in the North York area, along Steeles Avenue. It has an intimate and elegant vibe that could certainly suit a date, but works for just about any small group experience. Lastly, word to the wise, Genji is an à la carte restaurant.
I was interested in a little bit of variety, so I sprung for the sushi & sashimi dinner, $30. This comes with 11 pieces of assorted sashimi, 7 pieces of assorted sushi, 3 California rolls, and 3 spicy salmon rolls. Overall, I would say that I was quite satisfied. The entire plate gave the impression of care and freshness. All of the fish tasted very fresh and had the texture to match, the ginger was a welcome regular ginger colour rather than the perplexing pink that I'm often served, and some at the table were of the opinion that they serve real wasabi instead of the wasabi-adjacent horseradish version. (Who knows if it actually was.) I would say that if you're dining at Genji, you are dining for the fundamentals of a sushi meal done right. They don't appear to care for featuring creative varieties of rolls with novel toppings. They go by the book.
And my personal note; I think AYCE sushi is overrated. This meal was plenty, and if you're dying for variety, just order different things with friends. Problem solved. Go to Genji! You'll like it.
All the assorted sashimi had great strong flavours. Philadelphia and crunch rolls were also 5/5. Very big portion sizes. Crunch roll was my fave. Waitresses are lovely!
Just discovered this gem after living close by for 10 years! Food is excellent.restaurant is clean and pristine and service was outstanding! I will be back!
One of the best I have tried in the GTA. It's a la carte, no all you can eat options. The sushi is so fresh and flavourful and they have a specific twist on the classics that make them irresistible. Their other twists arent as wow-ing but they're good.
Genji Sushi is one of my favourite places that I go to. I have been going to this restaurant since I was a kid and Genji has taught me what good food meant and how amazing it should taste. Going to Genji Sushi, not only the food is good here but the atmosphere is amazing too. When you walk in you first notice that the restaurant is filled with more of a darker lighting and has relaxing music playing in the background which creates a very soothing feeling. When you get seated, another thing that you can notice is that all of their table and chair equipment are in mint condition and go hand in hand with the lighting and the colour of this place. The food here is absolutely amazing as well, I usually get the Chirashi, or a bento box and rolls. What I’ve noticed about the food here is that the quality of food never fluctuates and stays very static; it’s wonderful as the flavours will always be as good as the first time as you got it. Genji is definitely apart of the more expensive sushi restaurants in Toronto, but well more worth the money and time you spend here.
Has to be the best sushi eatery I've ever been to (barring the ones that have closed down). While pricey, the quality and freshness are always worth it. Try the bento box!
