Firstly I was just amazed to taste the Bangladeshi style snacks. The Haleem was very watery but tasted good enough. Definitely recommending the beef roll.
We did breakfast at Ghoroa. We went around 11am and it was quite empty so luckily we got a table. We ordered poratha, roti, dim bhaji, buter halua, chicken kolija, along with singara, cha and mango lassi. All items were tastes good nothing extraordinary. Roti was the best one to try. We took doi & khir as dessert. Doi tastes better than khir.
Ok so i took my dinner out there. N later on i had some food poison from the food. I really don’t what to say after that but their food is so disgusting at all.
So i was very hungry once and took my lunch from them. But later at night i had lot of vomit and realized it was food poison. I was about to die after consuming their food.
If you are craving for some unhealthy but yummy Bengali snacks, Ghoroa Restaurant in danforth best place to go for quick, fresh and best Bengali snacks in the town! I love their peyaju (lentils mixed with onions and spices and little love) fried in oil, pakora, mini shingara (better then. Samusas), daalpuri (small roti filled with daal and deep fry), chotpoti yum, halim, murimakha (chola and puffed rice with lots of spices if you want I like mine with extra green chilis) and don’t forget to grab a milk tea!
Poor customer service. They should improve their behavior. Maybe the employee and owner forget this restaurant is not in Bangladesh. It’s Canada. So customer deserve more respect
Got goat curry, chicken biriyani, Bhapa and patisapta from this place. Only reason I am giving 2 star because Pithas tasted good even though it wasn't very fresh. Goat curry smelled raw, chicken in chicken biriyani had foul smell as if it started to rot. Staff's behavior wasn't nice either. Was craving for Bengali food badly so went to this place. But it was total disappointment.
I visit this place sometimes, for take out, mainly fish curries. I don't like their cheap/shady dealing- like small portions hidden in curry, no itemized bills given, poor covid protocol, seems unhygienic food, less value (quality vs cost)
I ordered 3 plates of fish curry (made with vegetables and lemon leaf) for take out, but when I unpacked at home, observed in 1 plate fish was missing, and small portions in other two. This order was packed in the back kitchen, unlike the items that are displayed in front. I called up the shop, however they admitted it a mistake, but I had to be happy with less for lunch and after paying 24 dollars had to smell fish with some vegetables. Very cheap customer dealing. These restaurants do not value customer goodwill, since they are happy with low business, no aspiration to make big. Thus, my recommendation is to verify the food before leaving the shop.
Gharoa was a great place 5 years back. As it has become popular, several issues have surfaced; the main one would be behavior and talking style of the front-desk staffs need improvements. The gentleman there doesn't like all customers, and talks really rough. Before, Bhabi (The owner lady) with her warm words and behavior made the whole experience very pleasant. Food: The big size veg samosa were the best, available here in the whole GTA. But they are stopped now, we miss those big veg samosas. The new small veg samosas have a smell and taste that spoil it. Pakodas are simply great, veg Bombs are good too. Pianjis are too hard. Meat samosas are good addition but Chicken samosas are too dry. Chicken Keema Chops are just spicy without the taste. It will be great to have Beguni, Fuluri and Nimki, am sure many others will support the idea. The fish curries, Chicken Pulav and other dinner dishes have lost quality lately. It will be great to have the initial quality of the rahu-catla curry.
Overall, you can understand that Gharoa has a good variety of Bong snacks. So you should try out few times anyway.
Worst place ever for Bangladeshi food! Aunties who are selling the food lacks manners and they are rude. If you are fond of old (at least a week old), unhygienic, refrigerated and stale food then this place is highly recommended. I am going to report this place to food safety agency cos I don’t know how did they get the licence to sell food in Canada. Food is cheap priced but doesn’t mean you sell spoilt food and old food
Great service even at 10pm! Their spicy pakoras are the best snack you can have here. Wasn't a fan of their chai but that also depends on how you prefer yours. Definitely a place to stop by if you're just walking around the block. We came around 30km out here just for their pakoras. There's also a sugar cane juicer right outside on corner of their store if you want the authentic taste.
I always buy food from Gharoa as I don't cook in my house. I buy different kinds of fish and vegetables curry regularly to eat my lunch and dinner. It's good and I really like those curries. Reboti Mondal
Always a huge queue whenever you need to buy something, even for a single cup of tea. Employees are very less and very slow at service. The food is tasty with good quality and affordable rates. But again, are you willing to stand 10-15 mins in queue to pickup the item you like? Also, nowadays, outside the shop they are selling Sugarcane juice and Coconut water
One of the best places for bengali food. Love the dishes there. The food is tasty and has that authentic Bengal taste. Their items are freshly cooked and store is always bustling. 10/10 would recommend if you love Bengali cuisine.
This tiny little place in Danforth is a must visit for a taste of Bengali food and culture for Torontonians and outsiders. The food isn't that amazing, they taste just alright; but the items carried in the store certainly has high cultural and nostalgic value. The service isn't on par with the North American standard but it certainly is Bengali. Which might be the entire point and charm of it, as you'll certainly feel you are back home ordering food from your neighbourhood store on your way home. None the less, it's been there forever and has a long and interesting history. The menu gets shuffled, adjusted based on events of Cultural values (e.g. New year, Ramadan etc.) and got Street parking right outside.
Good food and good price. There are few curries which comes as frozen and the lamb tastes really bad after heating. All staffs are good apart from one lady, who is really rude. Some of their food are excellent and they have to improve their cleanliness of the place.
Each of the food items taste eaxtly like how those should in Bengali way. Love their food and visit multiple times in a week. Sweets are also very delicious and mouthwatering.
Great place to buy snacks. The tea is good as well. Also, has a variety of Bangladeshi entre to try from. One downside will be too much oil in their main dishes. And the whole cleanliness of this place. They don't seem to be hygenic
Quality of the food is Not bad. In terms of Service and Environment, after all we are Bangladeshi, no matter how long and where we are living.we should not expect much.
Authentic bengali home made food. Nothing fancy but authentic! I would recommend the beef, duck, fish curry and dried fish. The aloo bhorta could have been better.
I love this place for a taste of Bangladesh when I’m feeling homesick. The food is so flavorful (especially the Kacchi biryani) and I love that they have different items in addition to their regular menu. I used to go a lot both times when I was pregnant and the aunty and owners there were so kind and recommended the perfect items to fulfill my cravings. It’s no frills, but you can feel the authenticity of Bangladeshi cooking when you’re there. Also, it’s regularly packed so if you have a favorite dish call ahead to make sure there is enough!
Small restaurant of authentic Bangladeshi cuisine.foods are ok but the restaurant is too small. Though despite of its narrow space it has quite a lot of regular customers.
Today I take out two chicken beyarani. I don't know how long ago they cook if closely look at the pictures you will see Eggshell and chicken they don't clean the blood. I never Eat this kind of chicken beyarani before in my Canadian life. Probably more than one week they kept in the fridge. Don't be poisoned. Stay safe and eat healthy food.
One of the best Bangladeshi restaurants I've tried. Food was excellent. Fresh. Service was on point. I would highly recommend everyone to come and try this place if your looking for authentic Bangladeshi Cuisine!
We found this place based on a yelp search. Consistent with the other reviews. Super tasty hole in the wall place. Found that a lot of dishes were quite similar to other Indian dishes but spicier. Constant flow of people ordering food. A lot of food for a fair price (all the food in the picture plus 2 chai tea was $25). Enough easily for 3-4 people so are happy to take home leftovers:)
They cook once a week and sell it by warming the stale food over and over in microwave. Times have changed, these type of business needs to shut down now.
They have the best daal puri in the whole world but stuffs are lazy to make them. Everytime i go they say no we dont have daal puri and we wonts be making any before evening. Stuffs are pretty rude and unprofessional
Really nice small restaurant. Fresh appetizers and snacks made every evening. Have it with their freshly made cup of tea and you'll have yourself a nice evening. They do have variety of Bangladeshi food to choose from like bharta and plain rice with different curries.
Bangla in Toronto.any bengalis out here ought to be there.i went into a food spree the moment i saw the menu. A bit old and worn decor but honestly food compensates for any flaw you can find.have to try if you are in and around GTA.
The Khichuri with beef option was super tasty. I enjoyed the food and it felt like in house experience thus the name "Ghoroa" restaurant was meaningful. Will recommend and go again. The custome service can be developed more though.
I bought beef tehari at 10pm. Before buy i did ask them "IS IT FRESH? ' Lady at the counter replied its FRESH. I request to worm it up. They did. I taken the packet. On the way i started eating and it smell not good. Food is going OFF. My friend dont buy food at the evening time pls
Cute little restaurant with great Bangladeshi dishes and snacks. I love the pyajo and samosas here. Mango lassi and firni are too good to miss. Give it a try. Chicken and beef tehari are good too. I am going back again!
Despite my bias towards Bangladeshi restaurants, I couldn't give more than 1 star unfortunately. The place is congested, dark and dirty. There is no decent washroom. Food.may be good. But I think most of them are outsourced and can't give the restaurant the credit. Its definitely not a place where you can bring your friends from other countries to taste Bangladeshi food. Sorry for the review. But if you care, you should improve.
I don't care how good the food is, this is the worst environment in a restaurant I've ever seen. The place is too dark, too congested, and too dirty. They need to start a construction and make the place look different and next level. I don't why people still love to go to that restaurant. I would rate Ghoroa Classic thousand times more than this small filthy place.
Awesome place to have Bangladeshi food in Toronto. They have almost all the lucrative items of our favourite Bangladeshi food such as biriyani, tehari, khuchuri, and rice combo in main meal.lots of snacks and pitha on the top of these Hot tea. A must visit restaurant in Danforth.
