Pretty nice dim sum and soft shell crab fried rice, except for the beef ribs that were very chewy.

The place is smaller compared to the original location near P-mall. We (2 pax) went around 11am-ish on a Saturday have to wait quite a bit, surprisingly it's easier for bigger group to get table. Our number was skipped a couple of times and given to bigger groups (4 or more ppl) who came later (without reservation). Food was a hit or miss - 1. The biggest ever siumai I've ever seen! 2. Sticky rice in lotus leaf (lo mai gai) was a total rif-off, all rice with only one salted egg yolk and two slivers of mushroom and nothing else, no meat, no sausage etc. 3. Chicken feet in black bean sauce not fall-off-the-bone soft, still a bit chewy. Overall service was okay like most typical chinese/dimsum restaurant and yes tip was already included in the bill. Note: There's morning special promo before 11am (see video) probably that's why it was so crowded when we were there.

Beef balls 牛肉球 is different from other dim sum restaurant in that there is a beef taste. Siu mai pork was handcut, so the texture is unique. Lots of people at 10am, so best to come at around 8am.

Service charge is included in the bill.

Food is delicious but be prepared for unexpected surcharges at the end of your bill. Such as a $30 upcharge on weekends, and 13% built in tips after tax. Ordered the $258 meal for 6 adults and 2 kids and the final bill was $340.

Rice is $3/bowl

Decent dim sum place, not the exquisite type, but indeed quite unique and housemade dishes. Since the pandemic, we’ve been buying lots of frozen dim sum and steaming them ourselves at home. Many restaurants sell identical items as the frozen ones, yet double or triple the prices. We were looking for more unique dishes, and this place met that goal. The fried dishes were amazing, but generally on the greasier side.

The food is very delicious and the service attitude is good, but the environment is average.

The product is very average. The quality of the kitchen is not as good as before. I hope that with a little more attention, we can restore our past reputation.

Came for dinner with a party of 10. Food is overpriced. Taste is average. Similar to a Chinese food court take out quality. Service was friendly but maybe because my aunt frequents here a lot so they know her. The food did take longer to come out compared to other Chinese restaurants. However, all tables were full when we were there so maybe that was why? Only came here because it's close to where my relatives live.

2nd time coming to this location for dim sum, and the food has been consistently good. The dishes come out hot and fresh, and the service is what you would expect from Asian restaurants. The “dim sum essentials” are definitely done perfectly. Would recommend.

Place is paced during dinner service, one took 30 mins and when it came out it was cold. We sat in our table for 3 hours just waiting for food. Waiters were rude not sure if they had a bad day but it’s unacceptable.

If you are looking for good food, not the service or decoration, then it is good. Value I will say it is fair.

Went to Ginger and Onion for the first time today for dinner. For a Thursday, it was actually pretty busy, but not full. We ordered the $118 Seafood and Lobster Special Set Dinner, and added a dish. The Special is definitely worth the price, especially compared to the rising price of eating out all across the board. I've attached a photo of the set menu for reference. I didn't expect to get so much seafood (lobster, crab and steamed fish) for this price. The lobster was REALLY tasty too! I do wish it came with a different meat dish other than the half steamed chicken, but that was okay. Also, for 6 people, we definitely needed the extra dish to be full. For 5, I think this amount would be good.

The total bill was around $160 after tax. Would definitely come again with my family and order the same thing.

This place was recommended by a family friend. The food here was pretty good. The portion size is larger than other dim sum places. Recommend to try if in the area.

Compared to other dim sum spots in Markham, this place is pretty good given the price. We came in, got seated right away and the food came out fast. Their har gow, siu mai and chiu chow fun gao were all pretty good. They have lots of desserts but didn’t really like the fried milk because it tasted like they put cheese in it and if you are considering ordering the creme brûlée please note that it is just steamed custard.

Had dim sum for breakfast. They open at 8: 30am. Lots of dim sum selection, great menu and lots of desserts choices. The food quality is very good, steamed food takes a while to cook, so be prepared for a longer wait time. I believe they steam when we order. That's why it's very fresh and takes up a longer wait time for the food to come.

Hard to find good quality dimsum nowadays but this place is great! Supposedly it's the one from Market Village back in the day!

Waited over an h our for food. Barely got any service. Wasn't busy enough to warrant the lack of service and the no food.

2022-04-06: Just tried this place for the first time. The quality of dim sum was surprisingly good, and the service was efficient. I guess I didn't expect much from a small restaurant in a plaza. The price was really good as there's a special for weekday dim sum before 11: 30 am. The portion of many dishes was quite generous. We ended up ordering way too much as there were so many tempting items on the menu. The custard buns, rice rolls with shrimp, and siu mai were my favorites.

We ordered Peking duck and lettuce cups and others dishes for home, it was a disaster. Firstly, the dish of lettuce cups was missing, we phoned the restaurant but they say we didn't order the dish! The peking duck pan cake were too thick and dry. Then, the Peking duck itself was too burnt. They claimed the duck was outsource, so the quality was out of their control. Then, the other dish Pei Pa Tofu were actually flour/starch balls (mix with very few other ingredients, and a few tiny pieces of tofu), marinated in a sauce. Total cost $80+.

It is only our fault to order takeaway from here.

Ginger and Onion does not disappoint! Obviously the prices have gone up the pandemic, but the quality of food is still consistently deeeeelicious. Nothing is overly greasy, all the steamed dimsum comes in these adorable little steamers, and the service is incredibly friendly.

Maybe skip the turnip cakes (not as good as I remember it) but get everything else!

This restaurant serves delicious and authentic Cantonese cuisine. The honey glazed oysters with broccoli were flavourful. The scrambled egg white with scallops with an egg yolk was perfectly seasoned but should have been paired with broccoli to hold the sauce instead of long stem greens. Good customer service. We got extra soup (home made) and dessert, both were complimentary.

Dim sum is always great here. The food is always consistent, fresh and flavorful, and for that this pace gets 4 stars.

Sometimes service is a miss.

The Dim Sum was really good. It was a new experience for me. We had a friend take us here to help us try different things. We ordered off 10 items and between 3 of us and we got really full off of them fast. Definetly love the fried shrimp dimsum, durian pastry, steam salted egg custard buns as well.

Special price before 11am on weekdays and 12% off for the weekend. Good price and good taste. Specially their fried dishes are amazing

This is my go to place for dim sum. All of the food is great and the price is reasonable for what you are getting. The har gow and siu mai are huge and full of meat unlike many other places. I have eaten at super cheap dim sum places and higher end spots but I believe Ginger and Onion has the best quality to price point ratio for a family outing.

I judge a dim sum restaurant by the way they give out chilli oil. If they give cheap out and just keep adding vegetable oil to their chilli oil to the point it’s no longer spicy, that’s an automatic negative review.

Restaurant serves delicious dim sum in morning and noon. Great gourmet Cantonese dinner in evening. Clean and well lit.

Went there last week, they didn't ask or check our vaccination cards at all.
Food portion is big. Taste is ok.

Things are a little pricier than normal, but everything is also delicious with large portions. Takeout is easy and hassle-free since their dim sum menu is numbered. Say the numbers, order, wait a bit, done.

The photos were taken halfway of our meal. They've been eaten about 1/3. The whole dining experience was pleasant. Food and service were great. No complaints. They are great quality for reasonable price because the dished portion are big.

This is more pricey than the other restaurants in the mall, nicer ambiance We had Lobster w/blackbean sauce, lobster w/ginger/onion. Chinese Broccoli w/ginger, Spiced Beef w/mushrooms and onions, special fried rice, Sweet& sour pork. Everything was good. The lobster just need a little salt to make it flavorful.

Excellent food and service! Very good at keeping the social distancing inside the restaurant. The dim sum dishes were done extremely well, most of the dumplings were gigantic (see pic). Prices are extremely reasonable, not busy at all. The place was very clean and orderly.

Love the food, environment and service. 100% authentic dim sum and consistent quality and taste every time.

PLEASE AVOID or go at your own risk: Very surprised and disgusted to see a small cockaroach beside one of the steamed dumplings that I ordered.

We ordered a Beijing duck set meal for home and the prices is almost $60. How to know to take home to open a look, very few pieces of meat, and no cucumber and onion. We so disappointed then we called them to ask and they put the blame on the cutting man and said that his cutting was not good, and that it was a mess.

Had a sudden crave for dim sum one morning and came across this little restaurant. It's very easy to make an order, just walk in, pick up a menu sheet from the desk, and check the boxes of what you wanna order. It was Chinese New Year, so I also ordered a turnip cake and taro cake. The taste is wonderful and price is reasonable. The staff are friendly too. I ordered about 10 items in total. My mom loves all of it. Will definitely visit again.
