When I was considering selling my home as a “DIY realtor/seller”, I considered several options and decided to go with Grapevine Realty. Why? Before the advent of other such companies, Grapevine was Ottawa’s original seller-based realty service decades ago and has deep roots in Ottawa. With the added benefit of providing an MLS listing service to sellers who want to save money on their real estate transaction costs, Grapevine was the best option for me. Online registration for the service was fast and easy, with lots of support capably provided by Shelley, who managed the actual posting of my listing on Realtor.ca. I chose to add a professionally-produced video of my home to my listing, which I recommend to all sellers as a means of providing greater exposure for their property. Grapevine was very willing to include my video along with photos of my home.

A very valuable feature of doing a DIY listing with Grapevine was the one-hour telephone coaching session I received from realtor Jeff Usher. An experienced realtor, Jeff walked me through the general considerations of the DIY selling process, as well as recommendations on acceptable commission rates to offer to buyers’ agents, deposit amounts, current market conditions, and marketing tactics. If you want to keep track of how much traffic your listing is attracting, Grapevine allows the “DIY seller” to receive regular updates on the number of visits to the seller’s listing. The weekly information that I received allowed me to fine-tune my pricing strategy and attract qualified buyers. Also, Shelley and Jeff promptly passed on inquiries from private buyers, so that I could quickly arrange showings.

When the COVID lock-down happened in Ontario in early January 2021, I decided to suspend my listing for the duration of the Stay-at-home order. Shelley ensured that my listing included a note about the reason for the temporary suspension and re-activated the listing as soon as the lockdown ended. Once the listing was re-activated, my first showing in mid-February 2021 turned into a firm sale in just a few days.

So, is do-it-yourself home selling for everyone? For those who want to save money, have the time and desire to be a “DIY realtor”, are willing to learn about real estate, and want to partner with a reputable, responsive realty support team, I strongly recommend Grapevine Realty. Would I do business with Grapevine again? Absolutely!

Spent $$ on their realtor package to get on MLS. First interested buyer accompanied by realtor could not get into the home's lock box key holder because Grapevine changed the code and didn't bother to tell their staff! It went downhill from there. I would not use them again. The service was terrible for the expense. These people are morons.
