Great Blue Heron Casino

If you are just looking for a short night away from home you can't beat the Great Blue Heron Casino Hotel. Cost me $139 total for the night (plus a $100 deposit that is fully refundable). The other port perry motel is a dinky roadside thing that actually costs more per night. The room is spotless, bed is comfy.and huge, television with main networks and sports channels, bathroom is well appointed. My only suggestion is that if you have any lower extremity arthritis or mobility problems you should ask for an accessible room. The tubs are crazy deep and stepping over for this old girl was a bit of a challenge. Their check in process was easy and all staff that I encountered were friendly and outgoing. Security measures include needing to use your room key card to access the elevator to room floors. Place was quiet (no running kids or drunken fools in the halls) Covered walkway to the casino. Didn't eat there this trip but they have always had good food. It is also pet friendly but at additional charge. Close to $100 with I think $50 being refundable. Apparently it used to be less but some irresponsible folks ruined it by allowing their dogs to trash rooms.

I was there on last Saturday January 20th 2024 to play poker. The person in charge of poker was so rude and very low mind it person. She made me wait 2hr to put me on a seat plus every time I ask how long she will look at me and shake her head then I don't know go sit down. Not nice at all I hope casino take this very seriously and take a action against this individual. Horrible employee.

We were there three days ago for dinner and slots/cards. They have made some very positive changes to the menu and our server (unfortunately I didn't get her name but she's worked there 26 years) was fabulous. She kept an eye on our table to sweep away dirty dishes and refill our pop before we could ask her to but in no way was she intrusive. We enjoyed talking to her so much we had her come stand by our table and chat with us (we were the only customers in the restaurant). The new menu items were amazing, I had a gorgeously presented Greek salad and fish on a bun, my husband had a great Cesar salad and the days special, wings and half rack of ribs. The meat was fall off the bone.
We asked our server how New Year's Eve was and she said even though she was working it was a ton of fun, the band was great and people were dancing in the aisles. We never go out for New Year's but I think she converted us to try it this year.

Been here 4x. Changing my review. Machines were down all over, ones I wanted to play were either down, gone or reserved (on a Saturday night) water would be nice or complimentary beverages. Seeing as not one time in 2 hours were we asked if we wanted drinks. The employee I spoke with briefly couldn't seem to care and try to answer a simple question. Machines seemed tight but then again never had much luck here compared to other casinos under great Canadian brand. They also don't have a good variety compared to other ones. Like if you want people to come here instead of Toronto try a little harder.

A wonderful casino! The hotel is lovely and the staff is absolutely fantastic! So friendly and kind and knowledgeable. Made our stay that much better.

It was fun, not very busy so maybe not as exciting as casinos used to be. My husband did good and I didn't lose all my money so that is a good day for me. Clean and all the covid rules in place.

This place cheats. I was playing and winning roulette one night and the dealer raked my winning chips worth several hundred dollars. They reviewed the cameras and said that I had 20 dollars on the spot. I argued and they reviewed it again saying 40 dollars. I argued again and they said it was exactly 80 dollars. Was anyone actually reviewing the cameras or were they just out to screw me. You decide. I left and haven't been back.

Players do not stand a chance. No wonder the place is empty. Blackjack only pays 6-5 instead of 3-2. Go elsewhere.

Much improved place with a new big hotel besides it. Be careful when driving. Lots of single lane streets. Evening driving is scary. Prefer to go in daylight. Good luck.

I used to like going here but now they renovated it if that's what you call it the place feels like your in some sort of institution very cold vibe it was like a ghost town maybe 10 people in the whole place won't go back stay home and if your hungry there's a lovely vending machine lol

Great place. Lost $20 though so deducted a star. Very clean and organized. Would go again when I financially recover from my devastating loss.

Brutal.table limits geared only to the rich and famous, nothing for the casual gambler looking for a bit of fun.

Renovations are really nice. Hotel is even better. Great bang for your buck. Just wish I left winning some money!

Went there before the pandemic it was under construction staff was very friendly good food lots of fun highly recommended

Many games. Every measure for safety is provided during this pandemic. Friendly staff. Wonderful security guards. Love the complementary beversges. Very clean facility and bathrooms.

Wondering when they will open up poker? If they open up poker before everyone else in Southern Ontario they will draw in a good crowd.

1st time to Blue Heron. Covid policy in effect. Staff prepared and friendly. I felt comfortable and safe. Smaller casino, but it only takes 1 machine to win!

NOT THE SAME PLACE IT USE TO BE VERY POORLY RUN TERRIBLE MACHINES MOSTLY 5 AND 2 AND 1 CENT MACHINES. NOT HAPPY WITH IT ANYMORE.

July 2021 Update: The Casino has opened with 50% capacity now. There are a good number of slots for slot players but a very limited number of table games. Only 4 blackjack tables and maybe 8 baccarat tables are open. Limits are sky-high at $50 minimum bet, which makes it very hard for normal people to afford to play, I guess that's supply and demand in a post-pandemic world, hopefully more tables open and the limits go down. The blackjack rules of 6 to 5 and dealer hits on soft 17 are very house friendly and kind of a rip-off. You are allowed to drink while you're playing, they allow you to pull down your mask to sip then the mask has to come back up. The place was clean and people were having fun. Playing under these conditions right now is better than sitting at home crying about Covid, the flu with the 99.85% survival rate. I will return.

The gas station accross the road there yes has inexpensive gas there.all the time 10-14 cents cheaper coming from Pickering. On island rd.accross the road from the Blue herion casino.

Was very clean and well managed in light of covid restrictions. All machines are cleaned and sanitizer everywhere. The staff there is great, very professional and caring and carefull.only dissapoonting aspect was the number of machines available to play. They could have easily opened up more slots to play and still have them well spaced out between players, wish there was more selection of games. All in all a good night out for a change.

I booked my sections on a weekend night, so drove all the way from Toronto to this place. Once I arrived, I really need to use the washroom, the security refused and said to me since they’re overcapacity due to pandemic limitation, I could go to the tim Horton which is 15 mins away or keep waiting outside for another hour to enter. I really think this against the human rights! What a cruel behaviour and brutal security team they’re having at the door! Definitely don’t go if you don’t live close by!

A friend and I decided to go, on the way there we realized that this was the first nighttime outing since before the virus, so were looking forward to it. However there were so few machines open, for example, a bank of 5 machines, only 1 open, I think that number 1 and 5 could be operating with distancing, especially since there are plexiglas dividers up. Fully half of the floor space was completely closed off. Machines were not paying, cashed out more than a $20 'win' twice. I saw one person who seemed to be winning, about $800 on their machine but who knows how much she actually cashed out. Appointment was for 2 hours, left long before that. I know the casinos are having a hard time but we went just to have some fun.not fun to just be drained even faster than before the virus. Never expect to 'win big' but had at least hoped to be up and down a bit, very little 'up' last night. Staff visible cleaning constantly so that was good. I wish all the staff the best but I will not visit anytime again for now.

I love that you book a 2 hour window and only 50 people are allowed at a time. Great security and safety protocol before entering. In less than 20 minutes I started with 20, got up to 60 and cashed out at 30. My gf had a great bday experience. We will go again especially when the hotel is up and running. Hope they have a pool

Not too packed. Great variety of games. Good prizes when using your players card. Free gifts are decent.

Come for the great buffet specials in addition to the Casino! Food is great and service is awesome!

Expanding and renovating makes it unappealing and hard to park and reach doors, but staff is Lovely and I still lose when I go, lol!

Under construction.place haphazardly thrown together. $20 wheel of fortune slot machine beside a 5 cent slot machine. No slots that i recognized i.e. Blazing 7s. Will not be for a long time if ever

Did not feel closed in. A lot of room. Lunch buffet was good with an amazing sweet table and a low cost with $3 off for members

Cramped.

Waited for two minutes to be shown to a table whilst the person doing the seating argued with 2 waitresses complaining about their tables.

We were right in front of them, with absolutely nobody else around, and we weren't even acknowledged.

It took me saying something to my hubby before, still not looking up, for her to say she'd be "right with you". Downhill from there.

The 3 serving waitresses were so miserable, it looked like they were in servitude! No smiles, just as though they were in a prison canteen.

I have to admit that the conditions are less than ideal, with all dining tables crammed into a too small area, and having to squeeze behind chairs just to get to the buffet.

Ahhh the fry table. This was the only ray of light staff-wise. The lady handling it
was a breath of fresh air in that sad restaurant; nothing was an inconvenience for her and she seemed genuinely happy (or a great actress).

The food is the same as it's always been (except for the first couple of years when it was excellent) - mostly dry and overcooked, due to being in the pans for several hours. However, it's convenient for us as we only live down the road.

Had a look at the noodle bar and that looks like fun. So next visit that's where we're headed for food.

I have spent way too many hours and MONEY with no pleasant results or fun experiences. Renovations are truly a mess especially In the old part should actually close it off. The smell of food while playing is sickening. Too bright on some slots. Friends have already stopped going because slots aren't paying. Too bad I used to have alot of fun.

The free drinks come in small cups. Only one place to get them or wait an hour for someone to come around offering drinks. The slots are not really that great. Been there multiple times and still take $15 to win 40 cents. Payouts are worse than Ajax location.

This casino was still going through some construction when we went around the first week in April. I found a lot of the slots we're still out of order and a few we're just being installed, wished we went on a later date when everything was up and running.

I started to get hungry and decided to go to their buffet but it was packed! The dining area was a lot smaller than other places we've been to, but then again I'm sure this was just due to the construction. After waiting 45 minutes in line which seemed to not be moving at all we decided to just eat elsewhere.

I would definitely like to try this place out once everything is completely functional, maybe then my experience would differ.

They're still doing renovations so it's a bit of a mess. They've changed the machines and nothing seemed to be paying off. I didnt hear any bells going off. Also, they have a noodle bar in the new casino and its wide open so the smell of food is a bit off putting. As always the staff are pleasant and helpful. I don't think I will go back.

This casino went downhill since the new owners took over. Stupid gaming tables and slots layout, make you feel very uncomfortable. Too white and too bright lighting make everyone look ugly there. And last but not least, they don't offer promotions anymore.

Buffet is a great price but horrible selection unless you are just going for the weekend crab and not very attentive staff. Casino is under construction but it is still ok. I had only positive interaction with floor staff but watched an elderly man as two separate people to tell him where there was a washroom. One staff member just said I dont know, and another asked him to go across casino to ask someone else.

Fun place to go to gambling, but if you are hungry you might want to pack a lunch. Any time I have have been there I could not find a place to eat, but it was later in the night.

Not like it used to be - always construction going on, too busy.food in restaurant hasn't changed in 15 years - service is lackluster, not very clean.slot machines are not that clean, beer selection is marginal, security is too busy chatting to answer questions - Rama is a better choice, by far.avoid!

March 21st 2019 I went to collect the free gifts they giving away a lady by name of Tasha was handing the gift and she's absolutely so route. Blue heron you're losing me as a regular player. You need to replace some of your employees or you need to retrain your employees. We're coming there to have fun not deal with the bad attitude of your employees. One month you will get the promotion the next month you don't. People that work there thay are coolest if you ask them how come I didn't receive my promotion they're like just go on the website and complain about it that's what I'm doing very. I asked to manager when I was there and they're both told me to do the same

I have not visited here for several years now, but decided to see the new expansion. I was pleasantly surprised to see a greater number of slots, and the addition of gaming tables. Nicely laid out. Can't wait to see this project finished.

The new machines are programmed not to let customers win anything.
I been playing before renovating and I always won something but ever since afte renovation no chance of winning please don't come.here
