Great Lakes Concrete

Present as very professional and timely when committed to the job.
Our front stairs are a disaster, they are uneven, concrete has holes and divets, does not meet the wall, and there are cracks already appearing. The owner was contacted a couple of times and explained the shoddy job away as “everyone’s is like this”. I had a concrete porch and steps at my previous home for over 20 years and never had an issue so I am not buying that one! The rest of our concrete (driveway, walkway, pad and stairs) at the back are better but that is because our friend sat in front of our house ALL day to ensure the job was completed to a better standard.
Sadly, I am adding this to our Tarion warranty list with photos (it is the only thing on the list!). I know this workmanship is not to our builders standards and am shocked this is acceptable to Great Lakes. I will not recommend this company.

Nick has the proper equipment and full team to accomplish large-scale jobs. He was good to respond to my initial request quickly and to show up to complete the project after a short delay. Unfortunately I was unable to be present at the time of the initial excavation so the gravel will need to be moved, however the driveway looks fantastic now that it is complete. It really makes my humble little place look nice, and the only issue was a small chip when the forms were removed.
Nick really knows his trade and is professional.
I look forward to easier snow removal this winter!

Our neighbour had their concrete driveway poured by great lakes, which was unfortunate for us. They shovelled heaps of gravel on our lawn and damaged our hose when they were setting the forms. We complained to the owner via email and got not no response. We politely asked the workers to have more respect and were met with blank stares. Obviously, they didn't care. When they poured the concrete they walked over our lawn with concrete laden boots and placed their concrete tools on the lawn leaving chunks of concrete. And I'm not talking a few feet from the driveway. There was concrete on our lawn a good fifteen feet from the pour and driveway. I'd love to understand why they needed to be placing the concrete tools on the center of our lawn without being cleaned. I'd love to know why they needed to walk across our lawn with the concrete falling off their boots. I'd love to know why they thought it was cool to shovel gravel several feet over onto our lawn and damage our hose. I know I didn't get an answer as the owner didn't care to respond. I can't say anything about their concrete work but I can say they have no issue damaging adjacent property and have no respect for the people around them.

Use these guys at your own peril.

Edit to respond to owner: I called at least twice and emailed with no response. I wish I was kidding. This occurred about a year ago (late spring 2022).

Recently had our large driveway and front walkway done by Great Lakes Concrete. They started and finished the job on-time and as promised. All of the crew were friendly and hard-working. We had been let down by other concrete companies, so we really appreciated their responsiveness and professionalism throughout the entire process!

Very pleased with work ethics. Fantastic group of men with great team work. None stop, constantly working together to get job done. Didn’t leave mess behind first crew arrived Day 1 to excavate and board up, Day2 a different group of men poured and brushed finished, Day 3 removed boards and cut concrete and power washed driveway. We are so pleased and highly recommend. Great work guys excellent team work. They travelled from Port Elgin to our place Zurich an hour and a half away and we’re here on time everyday and left our place very clean. A 5 star business. Just amazing. Thank you so much Great Lakes we are very happy. We’ve already been getting compliments in our neighborhood.

Nick completed the job on time without any delay. He is responsive when asked any questions. Its too late early to comment on durability
but good job so far. I was scammed before from freelance contractor and Nick gave me assurance and he did complete job on time. Great job by Great Lakes concrete team.

Just finished today and it looks great - great bunch of guys working on the project. Will post again after it has weathered the summer and next winter (the proof of the pudding is in the eating - ha ha).

Update, had them come back and extend the sidewalk and add a deck. Love it. No maintenance now.

Nick and his crew just completed our driveway, steps, and walkways and we are SO happy with how everything turned out! We highly recommend GLC! Amazing work!

I would put zero if there was a place for it. We had Great Lakes Concrete do our basement and garage floor without incident. Nick committed to do our front porch as well, kept extending the date and never did end up coming to do the porch. The following spring he came to do the driveway, patio, shop floor and walkways. While the work looked great there were two issues. There was a hole in the concrete drive which we contacted him to repair. Said he would, but no matter how many times we reminded him, he never did show up to fix it. The other issue was that he took away far too much driveway dirt to the shop leaving us with at least a 10" drop in front by at least 10'x28' area so we were unable to drive a vehicle into the shop. Called to get him to replace the dirt he took. Promises, promises. Never showed. For the most part his work is ok but he does not service any problems. Again, Nick promises to come back but months later frustrated with his lack of service and failure to rectify his errors, we had to buy fill and have someone spread it. We presented him with the bill and he lost it. Said he was going to come and could bring dirt the next month. Really? Give me a break. Don't need it now. This is 4 months later - three months after he had promised to come in the first place. Reminded him with his own emails of the timing he said he would be back and told him he was not a man of his word and it's only fair he reimburse us the cost of the dirt. I was at the receiving end of his extreme angry outburst as I challenged his integrity. He sent vile emails calling me names and was totally unprofessional. He even had his woman partner reach out to take a strip off me. Disgusting behaviour from both of them. He does not service his work or fix his mistakes. Would not work with him again and certainly do not recommend him.

Great Lakes Concrete did our driveway and we love it! We did the exposed aggregate and it looks amazing and provided exactly the curb appeal we were looking for! Would highly recommend and would use them again in a second!

Our Condo in Collingwood employed Great Lakes Concrete to demolish and re-pour the concrete ramp leading to our underground parking. Our ramp is heated and needed new wires installed (the electrical work and heating wires were done by another company).

GLC did a great job and delivered what they promised. It wasn’t easy because, 4” of existing concrete and wires had to be removed. However, the team worked extra hard to get the demolition done in time for the electrical work. The team showed up as promised to re-pour the ramp and they did a great job. We are very satisfied with the work.

I have known the owners of this company for many years. From the day Nick provided me with a quote (as a new company so many years ago) to now being able to refer my clients to them without a second guess. I have yet to have one of my clients have an issue with the GLC crew or the finished product. Top notch equipment to go with outstanding service.

Quality work exceeding expectations that was delivered on time and on budget. The driveway has been installed for 5 years now with no cracks. Looks as goon now as the day it was installed. A worthwhile investment for your home.

It is very hard to get a hold of anybody to do a concrete job but when we called Great Lakes Concrete, Nick got a hold of us that night. He came over the next day and gave us a quote right away. Since nobody else was returning our calls, we accepted right away. He gave us an approx date and stuck to. I have heard of too many nightmare stories over other contractors that keep delaying there dates up to a year.
The prep work was thorough and they even stayed late as we had a lot of roots that needed digging up from old trees. They muscled through to a keep on track as they said it would be done in three days and it was. This was no small driveway either. It looks fantastic with an exposed aggregate finish. The whole neighborhood commenting on it. Really happy with there work.
