Gusto 101

Good dining experience. We came 45 mins before our reservation and they allowed us to sit by the bar until a spot opened up. We only waited about 15 minutes and we were brought to our tables.

The mafalde ai funghi and tiramisu lived up to the hype! Glad we made a reservation because it was super busy for lunch on a saturday.

Pasta was amazing, we had the mushroom pasta and shrimp linguini it was amazing, canolis were a miss

Went with a group of 6, we had a lovely time. Food was delicious and love the ambiance! Was quite busy on a weekend night, but service time was decent. Would definitely come again!

We were a party of 6 - restaurant policy is not to split the bill, and to add an automatic 20% gratuity. This sucks but I guess it's common practice now. I paid the bill and split it with my friends later on my own.

Then I noted on the bill, tax is calculated after tip is added which is atrocious. Servers are not responsible for the "service of tax" so I should not be tipping on the tax. But because the tip was pre-added I could not change this. Tax and tip should be calculated separately, not compounded. This resulted in a tip of 22.6%.

For the high price of the food, I was appalled that the waiter started to pick up a half-finished dish off the table to clear it away. I had to physically stop them with my hand to indicate we were not done eating the food. It was clearly not finished. This was unacceptable to me.

The food itself and the atmosphere of the restaurant were good but because of the other items above and the sheer amount of choice in Toronto I will not be returning soon.

Went here for brunch on a whim. The hostess was incredibly rude - clearly did not want to be there at all and had an air of not wanting to deal with us - it set a bad tone which lingered throughout the meal. Coffees were great, and the atmosphere was good - open and industrial. We ordered their version of scrambled eggs and eggs Benedict, with a side of potatoes. The scrambled eggs were cold and bland and the portions were SO small. They advertise the potatoes as crispy and a third of them were crispy at best, and heavily covered in the weirdest spice combination. The eggs Benedict were fine - at least they were warm! Our server was ok - the food came out quickly, but by no means was she above and beyond. An unfortunate dining experience, and I won’t be back anytime soon!

Beautiful patio! The mushroom pasta is very nice, low-key reminds me of Kraft dinner (which is a very good thing LOL) The pizza also pairs well with the pasta

Always been a fan of their mushroom pasta, but haven’t been here in awhile. The portion definitely got smaller, and the sauce is not as rich as it’s used to. Our pasta came a bit cold so it was not as enjoyable. Also, barely any cheese!

Tried their calamari for the first time, it was good but nothing special. All in all, a bit disappointed with this visit. Hopefully they can be more consistent next time.

The food was great, cooked perfectly. Service was fast and friendly. It was quite crowded when I had visited but it was still a good experience overall. A good place for a date, or a casual dinner with friends. Seating available inside and outside/rooftop. Be sure to make reservations to avoid waiting.

Even though there was a line outside, the wait isn't actually that long. We got seated within 10 minutes and was served promptly. It was really busy so the food came out a little slow but when it did come out it was hot and fresh! We both got the mushroom pasta and it was so good! It was creamy, light, and pasta cooked to al dente. Would 100% go back to eat it again.

It was really, however it was really dark inside I guess that’s the vibe or maybe the time of year I came, I went at 6 in November when it’s already pitch black out. Other than that, the food was exceptional and the service was also exceptional

Came here on a Tuesday night for what was our 3rd time but this time it was for my girlfriends birthday. We were very excited as always to come to gusto as we have enjoyed the Mafalde Al Funghi, however our visit got off to the wrong foot as we requested a specific empty corner booth in the corner (the whole row was pretty empty as well) but the hostess said it was only for bigger parties. This makes no sense because they don’t take any reservations and the same middle section they say is available for us had the same amount of seating where a group of 4 could’ve sat. Both booth and other tables could seat a group of 4 but they didn’t let us sit at the booth.

We were offered to sit up stairs at first but it was far too busy and loud for a date like dinner so we opted for a middle seat on the ground floor right by the kitchen. Throughout our night no one sat at the booth which we had originally requested (even though they said someone called but on their website and phone they at no reservations and only accept walk ins). Whatever, our waiter wasn’t the most personable or relatable, did what he had to do but didn’t make any extra effort to make our night special. Didn’t have a conversation. Anti social.

Our Mafalde Al Funghi was just alright, it had been much more tastier before, something was missing. Seemed the pasta was hard not soft. I asked the waiter if he could do some special surprise for my GF he suggested cannoli or tiramisu, I said cannoli. I had a feeling this wouldn’t be free so I was okay with it but I didn’t think it would be $12, that’s fine but a warning would be nice. This is more of a heads up.

Overall, I think we will give gusto another chance perhaps in the summer but for now it left a kind of bad impression where we will look for other restaurants for our pasta cravings.

What we ordered: fungi pasta, bolognese, calamari.

Pros:
Great service, lovely staff
Very fast service.
The flavors were out of this world delicious. It was like a trip to flavor heaven.

Cons:
The bolognese wasnt saucy enough.
The pasta itself for both dishes was severely undercooked, however still edible.
-the reason for the 3 star, is because I became very sick after my meal. I'm not sure what caused it, but unfortunately that dinner came back up shortly after.

Overall: some of the best flavors I've ever tasted in Toronto, I'd like to return and try again, maybe tey some new menu items. I cant stress enough how amazing everything tasted. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because the undercooked pasta, and getting sick from it.

No hard feelings, just honest review. Will return for more delicious food in the future. Hopefully I wont get sick!

This place is excellent.
Our first time here. The food was amazing the service was exceptionally great. Joshua looked after us. We told him to order what he thought would be good based on our preferences. He walked us through the menu and the food / wine and cocktail pairing was spot on. Excellent recommendation and product knowledge. Even though it was busy the service was excellent.

The food was simply awesome. 5 on 5 for everything.

Delicious Italian food. Service is great as usual. I find this area a bit crowded and loud, but that is the vibe of king and Portland. Price is decent, servings are fair. Not my favourite Italian place but nice for a time out.

Gusto has always been one of my favourite restaurants. However, after my experience last night, that has changed. I was brought the wrong meal twice and when the server took the second pizza away, I saw them walk around the bar and drop the same pizza off to the table right next to me. When it was originally placed in front of me, I had touched the pizza thinking it was the one I had ordered. It was extremely off putting considering Covid. I have been in the restaurant industry for over a decade and those are definitely not the correct Covid protocols. Not to mention, a manager didn’t even come over to check in after the situation. By the time I got my actual order, my husband was almost fully done his. I know that everyone is doing the best they can and i feel bad that my experience was so terrible, but after paying $200 I felt like something needed to be said in order to prevent these mistakes from happening again. Truly disappointed.

I loved the place. The food and drinks were fantastic. The servers that nice were really great.

Sadly, the manager was very rude at the end of our dinner. It appeared we were the last people in the restaurant about ten minutes before their close and were urgently rushed to exit the premises. We completely understand that people have their own plans and it’s tedious to have two guests left but if they could have spared ten to fifteen minutes for us to finish our drinks that would have been nice.

All in all a fine dinner but unfortunately the end put a damper on the whole experience. We probably won't return to this restaurant.

Ordered a salad that came with "carrots and cucumbers", among other things. The salad arrives with a single carrot slice and there three thinnest cucumber slices I have ever seen in my life on top of a mountain of lettuce. That on its own dissuaded me from ever returning, but the fact that we were seated right next to the door where people who were waiting to be seated were practically leaning on our table cemeted the fact that I'll never be back.

I love their lamb pasta. This place has good value and good vibes. The fact that it's survived for so long is a testament to how good it is.

Gusto was amazing. The brussel sprouts, pizza, fungi pasta, and tiramisu were eye opening. I had no regrets about the price as this place was truly exquisite.

Gusto has delicious pizzas and pastas. The pasta portions are a little small compared to other places but every one we ordered (we got all except the lasagna) was really yummy. The upstairs patio space is nicely laid out too. Be prepared to wait though as they do not take reservations.

I was with one of my friends that has a nut allergy and eats here all the time. Our entire table was refused being served any food because she did not have an epi-pen even though she said her allergy was not severe enough to need one. Extremely disappointed, I don’t know any other restaurant in the area that has these conditions and we have never had this issue before.

I mean, just look at 3000+ other reviews of this place. The the food is on par with much more expensive Italian resto's I've eaten at but at much more reasonable prices! I love this spot, this is my go to for my wife and I!

I love the food, have been a huge fan. But, the male bartender/server had his mask around his chin the whole time and kept coming uncomfortably close to us/me while walking around. They didn’t check my vaccine proof and just let me be seated with my friends. Uncomfortable experience

Loved the food here! I ordered a margherita pizza and cappuccino! Service and everything was great! I went on a Friday night so it was busy and had to put our names down and waited for a little over 30 min before we were contacted. We sat inside and were taken such good care of! The only downside was that it was extremely noisy inside and I had to yell to talk but that’s given with how busy it gets.

This is an awesome place! The service was impeccable, food top notch (order the NERO salad and the branzino, both fabulous dishes), light, tasty and filling without heaviness. The atmosphere is fun and entertaining. The prices are reasonable to boot. I would definitely return here, must go.

Came downtown to visit this well know place. We arrived around 5.line up. My suggestion is give ppl the opportunity to scan the QR code while waiting in line not when they are near the front.
We were directed to go upstairs (poor lighting in the stairwell).
Our server was excellent. Attentive and friendly.
We had a few appetizers and a pizza. I have to say with all the hype about this restaurant I wasn't blown away. Although the arancini looked good, the taste just wasn't impressive.
My husband had the lamb meatballs and they were good smothered in a nice tomato sauce.
The pizza was good (thin crisp crust), pretty good flavour. I guess I was expecting better.
We got a bottle of wine ($67) -that was a pretty big mark up for a mediocre bottle of Italian red.
The ambiance was pretty good. We were seated by a window that overlooked some garbage area (out of the window). - which I think could be easily remedied by some opaque window film.
Probably wouldn't return when there are sooo many others to choose from. ‍️

If you are looking for Italian food with a kick of spices - this is the place to come to. However get ready for some mixed service expectations. Ill elaborate below.

Food: Fantastico! We ordered 2 pizzas and a pasta - all of them were delicious. The pasta could be boiled for some more time as it was crunchy, but the quality of mushrooms and truffle was top-notch!

Service: a little mixed about this. They gave us a table close to the kitchen which made it a little hot. My wife was having back pain so we requested to sit by the sofa but the first 2 servers just declined our request outright in a very rude manner. They were giving excuses that those tables are booked for bigger groups while we saw similar tables with only 2 guests on each table. In addition, this restaurant does not take reservations. A 3rd server approached us and we requested her and showed her the sofa tables with 2 guests. She was kind enough to check with the manager and we finally got a table with sofa. Our server was superb who helped us get a table and we complained to her about the other servers who were rude and did not help with our requests.

Honestly I want to give this place 5 stars but the initial servers spoiled our mood and experience. The food is superb with some minor opportunities for improvement, but the main problem that the management needs to fix is the hospitality of the servers.

Consistently good pizzas. I’ve tried the prosciutto arugula pizza on my 1st visit. Ate the calabrese salami pizza on my 2nd visit. Ate the funghi pizza on my 3rd visit. The white wine sangria is nice.took 1 star off because the washroom was ridiculously dim (had 1 tiny lightbulb) I had to use my phone flashlight to see.

Ordered the popular Mafalde Ai Funghi which had great flavour. When the waitress asked, I shared that the pasta itself was quite chewy and tough/ hard (undercooked). Her response was “we cook our pasta al dente here”. I found this to be particularly rude as if 1) I’ve never cooked pasta myself or 2) I’ve never dined at an Italian restaurant… On the contrary, I know exactly what al dente should taste like and that was not it. It was a bit windy and chilly on the roof top patio so we ordered a hot water, which we also never received.

Overall, flavour of the food was good but improvements can be made to the pasta cook time and the service. This was our first experience at Gusto, and it was very underwhelming.

Delicious food with limited vegetarian options. House of the Bread with Burrata and Pesto Pasta is a must try. Staff can be more accommodative to different tastes/dietary preferences of customers in my view.

I've always said this, and it still remains true until today - this is my favourite Italian restaurant in Toronto, and my last trip pre-covid was to Italy!

by fluke as my friend and I were walking down king street without a reservation we had both said we'd be so lucky if we could get into Gusto for dinner, and I guess the saying is true - Ask and you shall receive!

We were fortunate to get seated on the patio upstairs and it was my first indoor dining experience since the pandemic and I have to say I felt incredibly safe.

The staff was amazing and I witnessed how thorough they were when cleaning up after guests.we ordered the pizza and the pasta as our mains that we were going to share and a bottle of Chianti.we realize that the people who seated after us got their food before us who by fluke ended up ordering the same dishes that we did. When we asked the server how come our food wasn't here yet because she had told us that it was on the way she realize that the kitchen stuff accidentally gave it to the wrong couple.

I really appreciate the fact that not only did they give us a free appetizer which was the kale salad they also gave us our dessert for free which was the tiramisu.

I really appreciate the fact that they went above and beyond even though they didn't have to and obviously I will continue to keep saying this is my favourite restaurant, the food and service there is always amazing!

Finally got to try this place! I've been to Nervosa but never Gusto all these years. I was happy to discover recently before trying Gusto that they have the same owners and the famous mushroom Truffle pasta and Margherita Pizza from Nervosa is the exact same offered at Gusto!

The Carpaccio was good, very mild tasting and the beans on top was a nice balance in flavor. Pizza was same as I remember from Nervosa as well as my all time favourite Madalde Ai Funghi with their homemade pasta noodles!
They actually overcooked the steak from medium rare to medium well but it was still soft as a good cut so we didn't complain to the server.

Looking forward to trying the kale salad next time!

The mafalde ai funghi (mushroom pasta) is incredible. If there’s space, I would recommend getting a table on the upper-level. The view is great there.

Skyler, the rooftop server was rude and condescending to our group. He was so passive aggressive, telling us to look at the menu properly. He then proceeded to take away our unfinished calamari from the table! Worst experience we had at Gusto.

The food was great but the service experience left a very sour taste in my mouth. Our server was rude, and passive aggressive. When we asked to order the beef tartare, he said they don't offer that dish anymore and suggested we check the menu before ordering. He never came up to check on us, and cleared our plates away when there was still food on the them. His overall attitude made the experience unpleasant and uncomfortable. On a positive note, the mushroom pasta and the kale salad were amazing! Not sure I'd come back though. Even though the food was good, I also value good service and this was disappointing.

First time in Gusto 101 and YOU have to go! The staff truly cares about your experience. The food is absolutely amazing – everything we tasted melted in other mouths. Absolutely the best meal we had while in Gusto 101. Three petite ladies ordered 6 main dishes and 3 deserts, that's how excellent their dishes were. Highly recommend to order their MAFALDE AI FUNGHI. Next time I visit, I'll order two MAFALDE AI FUNGHI dishes for myself!

It’s been a while since I last came here, but I can never forget the truffle pasta here. The combination of the earthiness of the mushrooms and the savouriness of the creamy sauce leads to a true umami taste, and the lasagna noodles are cooked perfectly al dente, absorbing all of the flavours

Food and atmosphere at Gusto is so amazing. They have such incredible pizzas and there house wine is just as good. Would highly recommend

One of my favourite Italian restaurants in the city. Their lamb meatballs and mushroom/funghi pasta is superb

We had an ok experience here. The food is tasty no doubt but the portions are ridiculously small for the price and we left hungry. Would definitely pick the pizza over pasta because the pasta portions were so tiny and a bit too al dente. Our server was not at all attentive and we struggled to catch anyone's attention during the whole stay. Overall there's better places in Toronto for italian, both for value and service.

Modern decor paired with a unique building make for a great location for a trendy restaurant. Cocktail selection is diverse and the bartenders are inventive when working off the preset drink list. Only 1 beer was offered when I was there, however they have another that was sold out. Food is very very good but not worthy of a perfect 5/5, and we did try almost everything on the preset menu. They do not allow for swapping of accompaniments, which was annoying. It's a great place to go to, and according to people have been before brunch might be more worthy of repeat visits.

One of the best burgers I've ever had. Top quality beef and the perfect ingredients. Definitely worth the $18. Came with fries and a delicious buttermilk ranch dipping sauce. The place has been very busy when we have visited but they have always been able to accommodate us quickly. Great service and great menu. My only suggestion is a larger craft beer menu, aside from a few Italian beers there was nothing.

Really good. They know how to do pasta. Only opportunity area is the service and can be very loud at times were you might not be able to hear each other talk

I love this place. The kale Ceasar salad is the best app and the mushroom pasta is so delicious. Highly recommend. Make sure to reserve on weekends as it gets busy.

My favourite Italian restaurant! Everything I had was delicious and the atmosphere is great. Gets very busy so you have to go early or be prepared to wait.

Very nice ambience place in downtown area. We got there on a busy Friday evening and had a high chairs table to sit on. The lighting was dim to read the menu but thereafter it worked well for the surroundings.
We ordered a large bread with some veggie pizzas, which were oven baked thin crust with fresh veggies on them.
Service was fast despite it being busy so can’t complain on that side.
Overall a good experience with good quality food.

Favourite restaurant in Toronto! And that’s saying a lot. Food is incredible. Reasonable prices for quality. Upper casual. Seating is not the most comfortable

Excellent wine, really good food. Missing a star because we got kicked out at 8pm for reservations (it was a Friday night), but otherwise would recommend.

Worth the wait to eat here. Gusto gets busy and seating is on a first come, first served basis, but the food is fantastic!

Outstanding. Met some friends for our annual Christmas dinner. We ordered two pizzas, breaded chicken, arugula, parmigiano vinaigrette and their signature pasta dish, Mafalde AI Funghi.

Each and every course was absolutely delicious. Both deserts (cannoli and tiramisu) we’re equally outstanding. Our server was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and highly attentive. I would highly recommend this place. First rate all around.

There's something for everyone on this menu! From gluten free, to vegan, to vegetarian, to no restrictions, there's an option for you.
Highly recommend the endive salad to start and the cauliflower main dish. I will for sure be making that salad at home, thanks for the idea.
My friends had pasta, octopus, fries, salads and pizza and everyone raved about their meals.

Love Gusto 101! Every time I've gone the food and service has been excellent. Recently, I've had the pleasure of dealing with Kathleen who's in Events and Reservations. Kathleen was kind, professional, and efficient. Very impressed by her and the restaurant- highly recommend!

Extremely rude waiters. I asked for a drink 10 minutes before closing their bar upstairs and I was told that closing is near and just enjoy what you have.

First time visiting Gusto and it was great! The staff was very friendly, the food was tasty (had the meatball pizza, loved it!) and the service was very quick.

Edit: Went back here again before hitting the winter festival at Ontario place and the service and food was spectacular again.

Yuk. Horrible service and gross food. I will never EVER come back to this restaurant. I don’t remember what my pizza was called but it had spinach on it and a large vomit looking pile of ricotta. I barley got through one slice. I packed it up and threw it out when I got home. I couldn’t even be bothered to send it back and order something else. I sat with a large group of people at the bar and every time they brought our food they would say “pizza for the table” or “pasta for the table”. Actually no. It’s not for the table. Everyone was very clear what items were for them and what bill it was going on. Useless. Never coming back. Never recommending.
