I’ve been happy with their services and haircut but I was charged extra without prior notice by the receptionist during my most recent appointment. The reason given was that my stylist spent an additional 20 mins with me. While I appreciate the stylist’s dedication and I did tip 18%, it was unsettling and disrespectful to be hit with an unexpected bill after my haircut. Communication about potential additional charges should have occurred before the service.

I come here and get my hair done by Sadete and she is the BESTTT in ottawa, it was so hard for me to find a hair stylist this talented in ottawa but im so glad i met Sadete, shes the nicest and most talented. Shes very patient and she listens to what i want for my hair and she goes with what i ask for instead of freestyling like some hairstylists ive been to in the past. She also takes care of my hair’s health which ia important! Honestly im so grateful for her, i trust her everytime

Got my long hair cut by pargol, she is an extremely talented hair stylist. She gave me long layers and made me feel beautiful. I would recommend over and over again.

Wow, wow, wow! I took a chance booking at a salon I hadn’t been to before but I will definitely be coming back. This was one of the best experiences I’ve had in awhile and I would very happily recommend Hair Republic, and especially Jenna, to friends and family.

Hello! I went here for a full balayage and haircut with Fatema and she did an amazing job! She really listened to what I had to say to understand my vision before she did anything and I appreciate that very much!

First thing i noticed: she dint pull the hair like many other hair stylists do. I dint even feel the heat on my scalp when she was styling it.
She is damn silent- but her work speaks a lot!
With so much patience and concentration she transformed my hair, just with a nice cut!

I'm on a winter road trip and 3 months in, I desperately needed a cut and colour. Like most of us, that's always nerve wracking when you're away from home and your regular stylist.but I'd put it off long enough! I drummed up my courage and booked an appointment at Hair Republic on Bank Street (Btw, I'm on a winter budget and had to be careful about how much I was spending).
All the staff were so great. Pargol, the stylist intern who gave me a fabulous cut and colour, both the receptionists, the other hair stylist and the young woman who consulted with Pargol, on what colour and how best to keep the overall price within my budget. Finally, they had to put up with me buying and then deciding I had to return a hair product, that I realized immediately after buying, was not in my budget.
Thank you Hair Republic.your staff were professional, courteous and cheerful and they truly work as a team! I wish I knew everyone's name but I only know Pargol's name.
Thank you for taking such good care with me and my shaggy.but now happy hair!

I went in not really knowing what I wanted and left with a haircut that I love and is easy to manage. Stylish, modern, chic. Soft lines. Ying Tan is a master stylist for short hair! Highly recommend you book an appointment with her.

After searching for a good hairstylist review who does Asian hair, I decided to book Ying because her bio describes experience with short and complex haircuts. I had an appointment on Sunday and I hated how much she had chopped off. I asked for long layers and to keep the length. What's even worse is that it's uneven. I have no choice now but to keep putting it up until it grows out.

I have just moved to Ottawa and I can safely say that I have found my new hairstylist. Wafa was the most caring and thoughtful person, she gives great advice and she listens to your needs. Very professional and experienced. I am so pleased with the service I got. I’ve been showered by compliments from family and friends about my hair. All thanks to Wafa:)

For the cut, I’m slightly sad as my hair is much shorter than I anticipated.
I just wanted to clean up the ends, maybe take off like 1-2cm in length but I’m realizing now my hair is quite shorter than requested.
For reference, the first pic was taken 1 month ago (I imagine my hair was even longer prior to the cut) and the second pic is the length of my hair today.
The haircut part of the service was also probably under 7 minutes so it was odd being charged for the a full cut. (Though Im not sure how the services/prices are broken down)

I’ve been going to Hair Republic for quite a few years now! I always leave happy with my cut and the prices are quite reasonable for the quality of service! I’ve always seen a master stylist but if you are looking a bit cheaper they have different tiers of experience to choose from:)

I had the best experience at Hair Republic at the Rideau Mall location! My stylist was Nour and he was simply amazing! Such a lovely person and amazing stylist, he did such an amazing job with my balayage and I couldn’t be happier with my hair! Go to him if you’re looking to lighten your hair and have the best experience!

Got a blowdry from Nour and he’s absolutely amazing! Such a sweet soul and knows how to style all hair types. Definitely recommend checking him out! ️?

I get my haircut regularly with Melissa. She saved me from a bad haircut and ever since I’ve been going to her, she has a great understanding of how tricky my hair can get and always produces amazing results! Will always recommend her. (Men’s cut)

Got my hair cut with Hitomi. The overall experience was lovely from walking in to sign in with the receptionist, to the hair washing, the cut and checking out.

They do ask you to remove shoes to put on slippers that are marked clean. They have an area to hang your coat and sit and wait if needed. The receptionist was super friendly.

Hitomi sat me down and checked with me exactly what I wanted my hair cut to be, pulling out reference photos. I really felt heard in what I wanted my hair cut Tobe and she made it really painless.

The hair wash was great and the cut was great. She took amazing care to make sure it was perfect.

For check out, they have pouches for each stylist to put tips and it is cash-only.

Got my nails done here three times now and every time I go I have a wonderful experience and my nails look great! Love the ladies who do my nails and always have me looking my best. If you’re unsure about anything they have excellent recommendations. Brought my friend to get her nails done too and we both loved how our nails turned out.

Stylist, Hitomi did an excellent job on my hair. I had it dyed and added highlights and she did a fantastic job, I love my hair. I highly recommend the salon. The employees were very attentive and the place was very clean and nice.

After being in Ottawa for over 10 years, I've only now just found my forever hair dresser! Diana is a senior hair stylist at this location and she's absolutely amazing at her job, works quickly and efficiently and always takes everything you want into consideration! You need to book in advance with her cause her schedule is always busy! I have no doubt that the other hair dressers are as good as she is! I just happened to walk in one day with a crisis and she saved me just as she was about to end her day. Definitely recommend Hair Republic of you're looking for some experienced hair stylists! Oh yeah, I spotted a few hot guys too if you're into one working on your hair anyways, worth every penny!

One thing that’s good about this place is the fact it’s clean, and reception staff are nice. But that’s pretty much it.
My experience with solid hair color was a disappointment. I asked for chocolate brown hair, I shared a photo (attached below) of what I was thinking, and picked the color I wanted from samples they showed me, yet the color I ended up with was dark black hair, darker than the night’s sky, (see the second photo attached).
The staff who took care of my hair was all over the place, her station was messy, hair dye ended on my cheeks, eye lids, neck, the floor, and my sweater!
She was clearly new to this, she did not even try to hide it, she was asking other staff of what she should mix to achieve the color, referring to me as if I was not here although I was right there in front of them, which I found kind of unprofessional.

I am reluctant to go back and ask them to “fix” this mistake, because I don’t want to end up with another disastrous color. Besides, from what I know it’s not easy to lighten up black dyed hair, unless bleach or harsh chemicals are used.so I am kind of stuck now.

Bottom line, if you are looking for a solid color service, particularly in the brown shades, Stay Away!

I had a really good experience here! I was booked in to do a full head of highlights with a blow dry and Melissa did great. Usually at other salons I am sitting in the chair for 6 hours but she was so fast and she produced amazing results in 4 hours! I am soooooo happy with my results, she exceeded my expectations and my hair looks even better than how I imagined. I 10/10 recommend booking here.

I’m really not happy about the results. I didn’t get the color I was asking for, and the highlights color is different (lighter on some sides)

Perfect experience in every way! The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming, the salon is gorgeous and clean, not to mention how amazing your hair looks once you leave. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My friend went into to get her hair dyed from black to blonde. She left with bleached roots, and hair that looks copper but orange in the sub. She also specifically requested to have no length taken off and her hair had over an inch taken off. You have destroyed her sense of confidence and she has never been so self concious. DO NOT GO HERE. Even while she was crying in the chair they still charged her over 300$ for hair she didn't want and the stylist proceeded to take pictures and tell my friend that she would post it on instagram, without even asking for her consent first. She of course said no. Extremely unprofessional.

Got my haircut yesterday and Aoife did an amazing job. She gave me the look I wanted while considering my hair type. She asked me my hair care routine and took everything into account. Today after my usual hair wash routine, the cut is amazing. Fits my face perfectly, she took into account my cowlick and double crown. I can't believe how great an experience I had with her. Love that I found my go-to Ottawa hair stylist.

New to Ottawa, I was looking for a salon for a much needed cut and colour. Hair Republic exceeded my expectations by far. The staff was super friendly, and my stylist was amazing. This will be my new regular spot for sure

Melissa Lanthier (hair stylist) is a fantastic, funny, enthusiastic and friendly stylist. I often tell her to have fun and go crazy and to surprise me.
Well she never fails to surprise me, I always leave there very satisfied and loving my new look.
Shes my number 1 stylist.

Amanda St Armour (esthetician) is very calm, kind, gentle and relaxing. Provides amazing services and I trust no one else but her when it comes to lash extensions or lash perms.

I received great service from Paul at Hair Republic despite COVID-19 restrictions. It was my first haircut since the start of the pandemic. Paul was friendly, informative and professional. He listened to what I was looking for (I hadn't cut my hair in a while, but I am also growing it out for my wedding) and also provided recommendations to keep my hair as healthy as possible before my big day. I was really happy with the result - I was looking for a longer, blunt cut with some framing around the face. My hair looks healthy and bouncy (it's been three days and I haven't washed my hair yet and it still looks really cute). Paul made conversation but it never felt forced. Would recommend and am definitely going back to see Paul.

One of the worst hair cuts I have ever had honestly first choice is better then this place I was in the chair for 6 min and it costed 50$ I'm a guy it's not that hard to cut my hair they make you take out cash for tips so they can avoid paying income tax they literally told me and I quote "you have to take cashout to tip because they were getting taxed to much" end quote. Crazy

After researching a few salons during COVID, I decided on Hair Republic on Bank St. Their health and safety procedures are not only thorough, but also very well-detailed on their website and social media. Their social media photos also stood out as they offer a variety of services.

Upon entry, procedures were as stated online; I was greeted by the friendly receptionist, gave my name and appointment time, she then took my temp and let me fill out a simple health questionnaire- done in less than five minutes. I should also add- I received a confirmation call the previous day upon booking my appointment via their website, and they informed me of the stylist's name as well as their student discount on Tuesdays.

I was paired with Zena. I had arrived earlier than expected, but the wait was short as she was finishing up with a client and sanitizing her station. We went over the style I wanted, she tailored the idea to better suit my hair texture (thick, wavy/curly, 2c). Wash, cut, diffuse and style.

I was blown away at Zena's attention to detail. I provided a photo of the style I was looking for, though she also asked how I part my hair regularly, was my routine looked like and how I regularly style it. I've found, previously, that some salons are unable to work with thick or curly hair, which I have, and seem either timid or ridicule my hair (believe it or not, haha), but not Zena! She was wonderful at working with the texture and movement of my hair! I couldn't say more at how impressed I am. I've had several compliments since leaving the salon.

Overall: VERY clean and relaxing environment, friendly, kind and welcoming staff, student discount, experienced stylist and able to work with thick, wavy/curly hair (in my case), and reasonable pricing. I definitely recommend!

This salon has been giving false information regarding my stylist, Sarah LeRoux. I was told she no longer does hair. This is not true, she has left this salon and is working at a different salon! SHOW PONY! Don’t be fooled by them. They just want your money, they think you’re there for them when in fact I want to see MY stylist. Another bonus is that the new salon Sarah is at is FINISHED and beautiful which means I will not have to hear construction being done while I get my hair done anymore!

I went in for a lash lift today and just got back home and put my contacts in and my lashes are.straight. For $80+ I expected a fairly decent job. And there's still some glue or something stuck in them. I've had about 6 or 7 lash lifts (not at this place) all of which have been successful i.e. My lashes were curled afterwards, so I'm guessing that the solution that they use just isn't very good.

The service was amazing. The price was expensive but not in comparison to other salons, really. They have a discount for colour and cut services for students on Tuesdays, which is why I went. This might be my new hair place. I'm very pleased with outcome, my hair looks awesome, never thought I'd be able to be this blonde.

I had my haircut by Serena and was really happy with what she did. She's super sweet and I enjoyed talking with her throughout the appointment, definitely will be back to see her!

It had been about 4 years since I’d been here, and just to be clear, all my previous experiences at this salon had been nothing short of GREAT (4-5 star range). Today, I got paired with Tatiana, who I understood is a senior stylist but is new to the salon. She really spent the time understanding what I wanted and although the appointment took longer than I’m used to, this might be the first time I’ve gotten exactly the multi-dimensional balayage colouring I’ve wanted (difficult for my dark hair colour, coarse curly texture, and VERY high expectations). I would gladly have paid (and would pay more in the future) to have all of my experiences be “6-Star experiences” like this one. I will be back in 6 weeks to see Tatinana again.

Great salon and just want to say great for kids too. They actually have a great rate for kids cuts and Serena is so good with kids. I highly recommend her. My daughter felt so at ease for her first cut in a nice salon.)

I have been going to Hair Republic for many years now and have tried numerous stylists and services and have nothing but wonderful things to say. I recently tried stylist Melissa and she is truly the sweetest and most knowledgeable stylist ever. Hair Republic is very accommodating too. They always go out of their way to make me feel comfortable when I require privacy.

It was my first time to get my hair professionally done. I came across hair republic and saw the reviews and decided why not? I originally wanted a master hair stylist by the name of Karen Lino however she was on MAT leave. I settled for a mater hair stylist by the name of Selma. The procedure was good and I liked her work, however her attitude was not the greatest. I saw other hairstylist offering there clients something to drink and not once did she offer, so I asked her if I could have a tea and she said yes but never even brought it to me. I didn't even ask for a haircut I only asked for my bangs to be cut and she barely even touched the back of my hair and charged me for a full haircut. Not to mention at the end of the service gave me her business card and then I messaged her to inquire about a question and she never answered. I will most definitely go back to this salon but would not bother to ever book with Selma again. Not to mention it didn't look like she had a good relationship with her employees and the only reason I say that was because her colleague avoided the question she had asked. Karen Lino was my first choice and i'm Excited for her to come back her work looks spectacular and reviews fit. A one start for Selma but the overall salon is super nice.

Jeanne is the best for haircuts! Downside is parking can be tough to find.likely have to parallel park and later in the day your appointment is likely delayed. Seems more chaotic than Byward location but busy for good reason. Can book online quite easily. Also close to gelato, cupcake and coffee shops. Nice to get treats after.

Paul always exceeds expectations with the amount of effort and care he puts into each cut, his recommendations for hair care have also been incredibly accurate! Never had a better stylist, never will!

I have been going to hair republic for several years now. I have dry curly hair and have accumulated some highlights. Taze has always transitioned me to what I asked without damaging my hair from dark to light to burgundy to light, she has managed great graceful changes over the years! By just having a quick look at a picture I show her she identifies a path to get me there without risking the quality of my hair and if my request introduced risks to my hair she offers alternatives or gradual path because although we might want certain look we don’t want fried hair that might come with it! She has never ever sent me home unsatisfied or unhappy and somehow I never had large bills! Recently I made a mistake and used box colour when I was busy with work and life and when I regretted my decision booked the first appointment with another stylist who fried my hair over a series of 3 appointments I desperately booked to recover from the first appointment. Obviously I ran back to Taze and she colour corrected and treated my hair and gave me an awesome shorter haircut to get rid of the fried hair! I recommend Taze to anybody looking for healthy beautiful hair and graceful transitions between different colours and style!

I have been jumping around Ottawa to find the perfect hair salon to be a regular at. Through lots of Instagram ads I found Hair Republic. The salon is nice and clean and quite spacious - staff is friendly and knowledgeable on getting what you want for your type of hair. The only reason why I can‘t give 5 stars is because (my hair stylist specifically at least) did not breakdown the process of how she was going to do my hair. She said she would use a toner for my balayage. She ended up used 5 toners total which EACH TONER is around (I can’t remember 35-45$). So I was charged about $150+ in toners alone. I paid almost $400 including tip for my hair and it felt like I got blindsided by the extra charges. Don’t get me wrong, they sure do everything they can to get the exact colour you want but I would have liked to of been informed for the potential extra charges instead my stylist just went ahead and toned my hair for hours and upon checking out that’s how I found out why I was at the hair wash station for hours! If you can afford to splurge and are on a budget then hair republic would be a good choice otherwise keep looking!

I would give zero stars if I could. Got a terrible hair cut from “senior” stylist Diana – dishevelled mess at the top, hairs sticking out from behind my ears, weird neckline, etc. She also copped an attitude when I asked her to make adjustments. I will not be going back to this place.

Now this salon has posted false information regarding my stylist, VANESSA GRAINGER. The salon states that she is away on “sabbatical” and that they will inform the public when she returns. I have seen her at her new location with my own eyes and amazing new hairdo.

I’ve been going to this Hair Republic location for over two years for my twice yearly haircuts. I always have a great experience! The location is bright, modern, and clean. They offer me free coffee while I wait for my appointment. The staff are always so friendly. The stylists always give me what I ask for and do a great job styling my hair before I leave. Sarah Leroux did a fantastic job colouring my hair, which was a challenge given that she had to strip old dye out, bleach it, and then colour it. I recommend this location to all my family and friends!

I got their for their spa services (waxing and nails) and they are amazing. Tina is the best and I don’t want to go elsewhere. They made me feel very comfortable and their facilities are very clean

LOVE LOVE LOVE! My hair was an absolute mess with a bunch of different shades of blonde that were just horrifying and Mallory brought it back to life! She evened it all out and put in balayage highlights exactly how I wanted (it was basically a colour correction session, it was more complicated than just a highlight). It turned out better than I could have expected and for such a reasonable price! Service was amazing start to finish all around. I would recommend to all:)

I was not pleased with how the hairdresser cut my hair. The layers were very choppy, and when I told her I had wanted my hair a certain way, she did not do that. I only noticed when I got home. Not sure I want to risk going here again. My experience could have been an off-event. Sorry, I do not recommend. Cheers.

Amazing location, amazing staff you are so kind and know exactly what to do when it comes to your hair. Having my hair cut has always been a huge anxiety for me but Taze has never once disappointed me and I always leave feeling confident.

My mother got her hair done here. I had a job interview with them a few years ago (I ended up doing something else) i just want to say the owners are very honest/loyal people. I respect this salon very much of how organized it is!

I only came here for a hair cut, but had absolutely great service. Its a bit on the pricey side but it is worth it. They offer plenty of different beauty treatments I didn't get to try but was still absolutely pleased with the service. As they cleaned my hair they made sure I was comfortable by bringing towels to cover my neck. Honestly great staff, great service, great haircut!

This was my first time getting my hair dyed so I was unsure what to expect and made a consultation to get a better idea of pricing and convey exactly what I wanted. The consultation went great and she estimated it would be around $180 for a full bayalange so I booked an appointment for a few days later. When I went in for my appointment the stylist convinced me I did not want a full bayalange and I only wanted a half of one, since she was a professional I agreed and let her talk me out of the full balayange. Half way through dying my hair she explained it would take extra dye (extra price as well but no number was given) I agreed. At the end of the appointment I went up to pay and they said it would be $230 BEFORE TIP. I explained I had come in before to get a consultation and there MAX amount was significantly less and they said that was the price and proceeded to try and sell me more expensive products. Long story short my hair looked great but as a student, price is important and I was upset that even after a consultation the price was so different when it came time to pay. Definitely not a place to go if you're on a budget.

My go-to salon every time. Diana is amazing, friendly & so funny! She helped my damaged, box-bleach hair become soft and smooth again. She's amazing & very talented!

I get my mani/pedis done here too & I always receive the best service. Everyone is so kind & really try to help you out the best they can. I've never left feeling unsatisfied & will continue to go there as long as I remain in Ottawa.
