Hanlan has done a fantastic job of creating a welcoming community for rowers of any ability level - from experts to those who’ve never set foot in a boat before!

I love everything about Hanlan. I joined with only one year of rowing, yet everyone is so friendly and helpful. The coaching (in the rec program) is terrific. We have access to the whole harbour. Last night, on still waters we rowed to the pier while the sky turned pink behind the CN Tower. The club has many boats built for open water and I’ve had a chance to row in waves. Tons of fun! Thank you Hanlan, especially all the volunteers who make it possible.

As a new rower, I cannot express my gratitude and appreciation enough at the calibre of coaching and warmth and openness of all the staff/volunteers/coaches at how they welcome inexperienced newbies. I came to Hanlan’s just a few months ago, after being frustrated at finishing LTR (Learn To Row) at another club nearby and not being able to find a way to continue rowing because there was no organized “beginner” times set aside for people like me. At Hanlan’s, before I even joined, my email was answered promptly and the coach Kirsten discussed with me my goals and what days of the week I could come down and row with supervised coaching available. When I arrived the facility manager Paul showed me around, answered more questions and the welcome from everyone was so warm and inviting.
I have learned so much in the past two months and the dedicated coaching from Kirsten is priceless. Oh yeah, and the course you get to row. Diverse, long enough, and at times can be very exciting with all those sailboats learning how to sail but that only will make me a better rower!
Quads and Doubles and Singles, fabulous Liteboats…. Mostly sculling, which I prefer. And a bargain price wise considering all the coaching!
You don’t want to row anywhere else.

I used to row and when I moved to the city I thought I might like to try again.
Tried getting in touch with them 4 weeks ago and I am still waiting to hear from them.
From looking in to their fortress from the outside, it appears they own a lot of barges and there was a lot of scrap piled up out front. Not sure if it is still open.

The boat houses used to look like tin cans, but looks much better now with natural lighting and accommodating many more boats.

No need to stress yourself out driving to a Cottage 3 hour away with tons of Traffic there and back. Hanlan Boat Club location, staff and the idea of being in "your cities backyard" is ready and ideal to make your staycation / vacation, most rewarding.
