Harbord Bakery

This is a good bakery but a little bit far for me.one of my favorite is Danish and challah bread. It's a good bakery.

The products and staff are very nice. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 5 is because I'm autistic and navigating this place is a nightmare. None of the products are labeled or priced, so you have to bother the staff to ask a million questions. Most of the time I just end up not buying things because it's busy and I don't want to bother the staff. Please label your products: (

I have been a devoted patron of Harbord Bakery for over 30 years and regarded it as one of my all time favourite bakeries. The fresh buns; which included bagels and Harbord’s magnificent Sweet Rolls with sweet crumb topping, were always on my shopping list. Of course, I would never leave the bakery without adding a large box of assorted danishes, which I had considered the best in the city. I could go on and on about the list of incredibly executed sweet and savoury items available and how, over the years, I made it my mission to sample almost all of them. Sometimes, I was lucky enough to run into Albert himself and find him sampling some of the savoury dishes, just to make sure that everything tasted just right. When he cashed me out, I might add, it was always with a smile, it was not uncommon, since my purchases were substantial, for him to throw in a, Babka, on the house.
Most recently, I visited my beloved Harbord Bakery, after moving away from the city of Toronto. To my dismay, I was saddened to discover that things do not always remain the same. The “Kotlety, ” which are Eastern European Veal hamburgers and which I have had on many occasions in the past, were lacking in flavour and texture and actually had a hint of gaminess to the meat. My beloved Almond Danish, was not the danish of yesteryear, when Albert was still with us. The actual colour of the almond filling was lighter and had a yellow hue to it, clearly, the original recipe had been altered. In the past, I remembered the almond filling having a tan colour to it and in my estimation, it was missing some actual fresh ground almond in the mix along with additional flavourings, like cinnamon. The Cheese Danish, also, does not taste the same. Again, the danish is missing the proper amount of cinnamon, the taste of the cheese filling is off and the dough of the danish itself has been altered, it does not have the same light airy texture to it, It seems too dense and the flavours are not as they once were.
It is sad to say that after Albert’s passing, I had noticed a decline in the bakery’s quality and I slowly recognized that things were changing. Unfortunately, I guess nothing lasts forever and I have made the decision that my most recent visit to your establishment would be my last.

Seriously amazing. More than a bakery, Harbord offers tasty deli and ready to go meals. Their turkey burgers, chili and salads are to incredibly tasty. Try the Putter's pickles! Plus delicious bread and pastries. Rugelach, Hamantaschen, hallah bread, dolce de leche croissants. Great service, the Owner herself comes out to greet the customers. It is a family business steeped in tradition and it shows. Love this place. Highly recommended!

Really overpriced bakery, items they don't put prices on, are really overpriced. $15 for handful of tasteless cookies

The owner is awesome and a generous lady. It’s classy place in the neighborhood also yummy food, bakery and a great bread. I’ve order food for Christmas and Thanksgiving and I’m completely satisfied. The almond cake is my fav ️

An icon in the community. These wonderful folks have been around for decades. Baking and selling bagels, cream cheese, egg salade, cakes, and a whole bunch more good food. You won't be disappointed.

It's so good they have a fresh bread and cheese sandwich? Cookies and many other foods

We had to buy a last minute cake! They really came through! There were some people being rude to the employees and I thought it was sad becausee I saw how hard they were working! If you ever need to stop buy for food check out this place!

Delicious challah, and babka. Good place to get gefilte fish, matzoball soup, chopped liver, and brisket. I always leave with much more than I went in for.

The chicken pot pie, chicken stew and the roasted chicken pieces were absolutely delicious. I went back the same day for more. The flavours were the best I've ever had.

This the first time I bought Challahs from this store.
The quality of product is average and the size is half of what I usually pay for the same money.

Purchased a mocha cake for my wife's bday after reading the good reviews. Wasn't impressed! It tasted awful with a strong foul freezer odour, which means it had been sitting in there for god knows how long. $30 wasted! Birthday ruined! Wish I can give 0 star.

Go to Harbord Bakery and get a poppy seed danish. Thank me later.

If you're feeling REALLY cheeky, get yourself a chocolate danish ring, make yourself a pot of coffee, and turn your phone off.

As a Montreal transplant, I "know" bagels. And the biggest disappointment regarding Harbord bakery is their bagels. Their bagels are simply bread with a hole in the middle, airy light dough. Their breads are great, but bagels should be real bagels and they're not.

A line worth the wait, to buy fresh baked bread. It is the gem in the neighbourhood. Worth a try.

I never get why this pricey bakery persists.everything looks good.and then you taste it.mediocre and bland.nice folk though.

Baked goods are ok but not great. Service is not at all friendly. Despite it being nearby, I will not be returning.

Grew up with the bakery around the corner and always had yummy breads My favourite was the humungous Russian bread that my parents would bring to us on Saturday afternoons. Well Suzie, a thousand thanks and one of the best birthday gifts a dame can have.you baked one on order for me and Marv (friend) and I just wolfed down two huge center slices.totally fabulous and Mory * (husband) kept repeating delicious, delicious So thank you for rising to the occasion on one of my special days Hindy.actually you don;t have enough stars to click on to

First learned of Harbord Bakery via Pusateri's, where they sell their products, and where I first fell head-over-heels in love with their poppyseed danish- it is absolutely *divine*. When Pusateri's was one day sold out of the danishes, I decided to go straight to the source. As good as they were before, getting them fresh out of the oven takes this up a whole other step. My gosh, these things are absolutely incredible, and what I like is that they don't skimp out on poppyseed filling, which pretty much everyone else seems to. Half the weight of the danish seems to be made up of just the poppyseed filling! And their various croissants are absolutely to die for as well- I love the savoury ones so much. This place in an absolute gem, I can't wait to tell my friends about it and bring some of these goods to parties and such.

I've eaten pasteries in 13 different countries and their cheese danish tops the list without question. Truly incredible.

I went here 2 years ago with my sister, and we still talk about it. It is the first place I will go when I visit Toronto again. Amazing pastries and quiche.

This is one of the best bakeries for a wide variety of breads, bagels, cookies, pastries, pies and cakes. They also offer prepared foods. The prices are not cheap, but it's very good quality food. It's also a long-standing family owned and run bakery. And they usually give out a free cookie to little kids.

Nothing spectacular and extremely over priced for what you are getting. Beware as prices aren't posted and you will overpay. I paid 12 dollars for a tiny dish of Mac and Cheese and 3 tiny meatballs. The food wasnt even that great and I was hungry afterwards. There are too many other options around- Kensington Market, U of T campus. Dont waste your time as you can get much better elsewhere.

Harbors bakery is simply fabulous everything is baked on site with great ingredients. It is family owned & I have going here for more than 25 years. The rye with carraway seeds is one of favorites, while you can get cheaper rye @ a grocery store you notice the difference in just picking up the loaf as it is heavier with more taste. It is hard to not get a cheese Danish or something else. I have never had anything I did not like from the bakery. A local gem for sure.

The workers aren’t kind and there is no labels for breads so i need to ask every single thing. The price was 3.5 each which is definitely not cheap but the taste was really cheap. Their almond croissant does not have proper filling and it taste like burnt and the atmosphere does not look that clean

Best bakery around - delicious pastries, breads, and treats of all kinds plus a great selection of other food like yogurt, coffee & tea, chips, honey & jam, cheese, and some pre-made meals! Great quality, service, and selection - absolutely a must-go for anything you need.

Harbord’s cinnamon bread is to die for! Toasted or not, it’s a treat of perfection in bread. Their dark rye is also absolutely delicious.

Probably one of the best bakeries on Toronto, they make an awesome Won-ton Soup for a Jewish Bakery. The prepared foods are unbeatable and the chocolate chunk cookies are unbelievably good. They also carry the Greaves brand of preserves.

On the expensive side (especially on things they don't price) and service isn't the most sympathetic, but still pretty good baked goods if you get a chance to snatch what you want.

If you pay with cash, they shortchange you with a fake smile (46 cents in my case, which is almost half a dollar). They don't even give you a receipt by default and when you do ask for it and get it, the receipt doesn't even state how much money the costumer paid! It's a tiny little piece of paper with only the price of the product on it.

I have never seen such revolting practice anywhere else in Canada. Extremely shady is the mildest way of putting it. Please be aware of this before you buy anything from here

Ive been going there for decades. My usual is their cheese danishes also almond is very good. On the weekends they make pumpernickle raisin bread its really good. They are always busy have prepared foods and do special cakes. A real old fashioned bakery.

We visited this bakery as it has good reviews. Everything in the bakery looks good however the bread we got was not fresh. It was hard and didn't tasted good. We always to go what a bagel and the quality of harbord bakery products was no way close to what a bagel. Bakeries should have fresh bread every single day, however this place bread tasted two days old. It was such a waste of time and money to come to this place.

Amazing pastries - I got the poppyseed cookies and the cheese danish and they were delicious. So fresh and warm. Definitely a neighborhood staple

Stayed open late just for me AND gave me a free loaf of bread which was inhaled before we got home

Would of loved to give the bakery a 5 star review but unfortunately the cake I ordered for a co-workers birthday did not come out the way it showed on their website when I placed the order. The pic on the right is from the website and the pic on the left is what was waiting for me when I went to pick up the cake. I didn't take the cake because I wasn't sure if it was even a Strawberry Short Cake and it was smaller 7" instead of an 8" cake that I paid for. The ladies at the counter were very helpful and did provide a refund for the cake. So I ended up going to Metro to find a Strawberry Short Cake for our celebrations.
