Unfortunately, I must share my experience from this weekend with a rude server. We simply wanted to bring to their attention that there were two birds flying around within a closed patio, posing a health risk. I witnessed a bird from the ceiling just poop and land on the table – an incident that is hard to notice if you're not paying attention. I even mentioned it to my girlfriend, with whom I was dining. After about 15-20 minutes, right on our table, a fresh bird dropping fell and hit my girlfriend's eyebrow and nose. My concern was not only for us but also for other patrons who might not notice bird droppings that could fall on their food or drinks unnoticed.
If it was a bit closer to home I'd be in every day! Went for the Ireland game against Romania and it was honestly a fantastic spot! I hope to be back for more Irish rugby games during the world cup!
I had a disappointing experience at Hemingway's Restaurant and Bar. The food left much to be desired, the drinks were weak and resembled diluted juice, and to top it off, everything on the menu was overpriced. Overall, not a place I'd recommend.
The food was good.the fries is the best of Toronto, super crisp. The patio has nice view but the atmosphere is not cozy, but it was harm enough once was snowing outside. The service was good.
Decent pub food for a fair price, but it didn't seem to have anything to do with New Zealand other than the name. Tables are a bit closer together than I'd like during COVID.
Great bar in the heart of Yorkville with great beers, and excellent food. Plenty of space with multiple levels of seating. Service was great.
Tried all the IPAs on menu, which were awesome. Some packed a punch, the others not so much but with the same hoppiness as a regular IPA. We had popcorn shrimp, sweet potato fries, fajitas and jambalaya which was the highlight of the meal for me. Located right across the Bay Street TTC station, it is slightly expensive for a bar but cheaper than the other restaurants in that upscale neighborhood.
Three floors and a rooftop bar. A bit worn down. Offers local beera. Food menu is limites. Best seats are on balcony second floor over looking the street.
Horrible service we were a group of 9. We were made to sit in a place with no heater when it was freezing outside and the host did not even have the curtesy to say ‘sorry’ we don’t have a portable heater.
Really love this pub, the food is great and the service good. Alcohol too. The terrace is extremely cute and you find lots of quirky details in the restaurant.
Old faithful. This place is an institution. Unpretentious, lovely atmosphere. The service is friendly and the food is decent. If you want to catch a game or enjoy a casual meetup with friends this is the spot.
The restaurant had a nice ambience with the Hemingway theme. The staff was very friendly. We went on a rainy day and when we mentioned that we are getting soaked out, they were accommodating to put us inside. The food was tasty and potion sizes are good. Great place will definitely come back here.
Well it turns out that this bar now wants a vaccine passport to go into their heated patio. I mentioned I wasn't interested in the inside just outside and the response from the doorman -yes they now have a doorman- (VIP personnel) is "were taking passports for the whole place".
What a great find! I had the salmon salad. BEST salad ever. Great service, rooftop patio was fabulous. We had a great time and felt safe. Thank you Hemingway's, was a top notch place a great experience.
Staff are rude to people with health conditions or disabilities, claiming they don't have to follow the law or make any accommodations because "we are a private business". You're not allowed to stand on the patio which is bizarre (must be walking or sitting). Otherwise, prices are decent.
Lovely patio and food was delicious - calamari, braised lamb & peel ‘n dip. The only bad thing was the noise and falling debris from construction beside it.
Being here totally brought back memories from college days! Would come here with friends for that Yorkville vibe and this was perfect! And after so many years later, it’s just as awesome as I remember! Don’t usually get food from here even in the “old” days! Their apps are just awesome with some nice drinks! The nachos were so filling alongside the poutine! Didn’t even finish off the nachos! It was that big! The rooftop patios (yes, plural) is awesome! Misting fans to keep you cool and super down to earth feel in this place! Service was awesome! The waitress was super helpful and totally checked in on us to ensure we were good! Great job overall after all these years! Will definitely be back whenever I’m in the area!

Love the vibes here! They are very accommodating as you cannot make reservations. But we were able to get a group of 15 people in an area on a Friday night within 20 minutes. The drinks & food are good enough, the only thing that stands out on the menu are the Cajun fries!
Nice spot, lively on the weekend but servers should be aware of the dripping roof - would have been nice to know I'd get dripped on all night. Our server was very patient with our slow drinking though, much appreciated. Very attentive without crowding us.
What a great spot! We found this place on a walk today & decided to stop for dinner. Delicious food, decent prices & very nice staff. We ordered the Calamari, Cajun Fries & Seafood Linguini.
First experience was a memorable one. The vibe was that of a young professional one with a dash of coziness. We sat in the terrace of the first floor with a view to the street which was lovely. The service was good. We ordered sweet French fries which was good. I also liked my sour beer which was suggested by our server. All around a great experience.
I can honestly say this was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. First of all, our server who was a fake blonde, with tattoos and wore glasses was rude to us. She spilled mayo on my friends cell phone, did not apologize or even offer to clean up except say to us, "you have a napkin" then walked away. After this she had completely ignored serving us, until we had to call her over to get us drinks. She had no problem serving everyone else around us and checking in with them. It took forever for our drinks to come. It was busy so we were waiting to ask for our bill which is fine, we finally got our bills and waited for HALF AN HOUR to pay. My friend had to catch the subway so she waited as long as she could but had to leave since the TTC was closing. We eventually got up went to cash out, we were ignored until the security noticed us and asked if everything was okay. We told him all we wanted to do is pay our bill. After getting her to come over, we told her we've been waiting 30mins. She had the audacity to say to us "so you thought you didn't have to pay? " I am so appalled that this was her reaction/statement, seeing as how we WAITED and easily could have left since she didn't notice us getting up from our table to pay at the bar. But I'm not that person to NOT PAY! To not even apologize, but respond with attitude we just have to "wait our turn". I have never been so furious and it completely ruined our night. I will never return or recommend this establishment to anyone in my social circle. #boycotthemingways
The downstairs part of the restaurant was closed when we arrived so we had to be seated upstairs. This restaurant is an after work hangout for drinks, so the noise level was excessive. Unfortunately a woman who was seated with a large party near us felt it appropriate to vocalize each of her trivial thoughts at maximum volume - I mean literally screaming! The food here is meh! I had the fried chicken, which was just OK. I'm continually amazed at how little food you get for such a price. My friends tried the fish and chips. Too greasy & too much batter. Overall, simply OK. If your goal is to have a drink after work, see & be seen, then maybe this place is for you. If you're looking for good food & interesting conversation please go elsewhere.
I love Hemingway's. I used to work a block away, so I'd drop by a lot, and still do even though I'm further away now. Really friendly wait staff and delicious food equals some good old fashioned New Zealand hospitality!
You will not get good old fashioned New Zealand accents (which is a shame) but that really can't be held against the staff.
They hold silent discos and trivia nights on the regular and they are a ton of fun. I am not a big bar-goer, but this is one of my favorites in the city.
This spot is fantastic for a simple night out. Reminds me of the bars back in Nova Scotia. The seating is massive especially with the upstairs indoor/outdoor heated patio. The servers are nice and relatively fast for the amount of tables they’re watching. The food was pretty good and drink menu was satisfactory. I went with four friends and got a table in no time.
Great location, good food, very nice vibe. Was a sunny (fairly warm) spring day, so the covered patio was great. But sloooow service. I guess they don't check the weekend weather report.
Attracted by the reviews, extremely disappointed by the food. This place may be good for having some drinks, but the food is below acceptable. We ordered the fried chicken and the lamb. FC was ok. Lamb, fries, smash potatoes were cold, dry, and flavorless. It tasted as it was cooked and frozen the day before. Won't recommend it and won't come back ever.
Love the atmosphere, beer and food. Lamb shank and Hemingway's Deep Fried Chicken is to die for! My place to go hang with friends when I come into town.
A strangely middling, grimy bar in the middle of swanky Yorkville. Not sure when the lines get cleaned, so go for something out of a can. Happily, the lamb curry is a bright spot. Spring for the mango chutney!
Yorkville institution serving pub fare and beer for decades. Maybe the biggest rooftop patio in Toronto. Go for the location and the vibe. I had the fish tacos and they were fine. 3 for the food. 5 for the venue = 4 average
Hemingway's is great! I was there for a music trivia night (we got 10 correct out of 48 questions). Had a ton of fun. The food is quite good, the drinks are great. There's a nice selection of beers and eclectic eats. Great pub atmosphere, friendly service, and lots of fun events to participate in. Recommended for groups of three or more. There's also tons of room upstairs and even outside in the summertime.
I waited for service at a table for nearly half an hour, I never received any service so I had to leave. I then tried out another bar for my first time and had a great time. So two stars for getting me to try out a new place that was great!
2018: Several more visits over the year with our second Christmas Dinner.who needs to cook right.and we are not disappointed. Aperitifs, Burt Reynolds shooters, calamari, main course with a fine bottle of Trapiche Reserve/Malbec from Argentina followed by pumpkin pie and Port to end our three hour sit down. A truly enjoyable evening with the absolute best Wait Staff.
2017: Wonderful traditional full trimmings Christmas Day turkey meal.
First time experiencing at this establishment and was a bit worried from some of the reviews about the food, service and "you sit on green plastic chairs" comments. One reviewer, Justin Cui writes: nothing to complain about but gives it 2 stars and goes on to complain about this and that. Confused or what? !?
Nothing further from the truth!
Yes the patio has plastic chairs, it's a patio and fully enclosed btw.
Our meal was excellent, Wait Staff amazing and the liquor enabled us to not only be thankful for this time of year but to numb us enough to think ahead to the New Year celebrations.
The service included a search for a specific shooter I had a taste for. Our Server, while on his break, took the time to look it up and pass it on to the Bar Staff. Attention Management, he's a keeper.
The small front door exterior seating is also enclosed and heated. Main floor offers a variety of tables (with real chairs) and comfortable against the wall booth style seating.
We were there four hours and had a great time and for that we thank you. Obviously, we'll be back.
Moral of the story: Don't believe everything you read. And the sky is blue after all.
PS: The cranberry stuffing was great. I even ordered extra.
PPS: I missed not having meat pie with the meal. Maybe next year?:)
NOTE: . Yes tipping is already included in your bill but on a Christmas Day and prior to the minimum wage being raised, maybe extra tipping isn't all that bad. Plus I was informed of this by the Manager at time of booking.
A cozy pub that isn't pretentious in Yorkville. A very large heated roof top patio. I haven't eaten very much here unfortunately I usually just go for after work drinks with colleagues and it as been perfect for that.
I was referred to this company and used them a few times, however this is the second time they have not been able to come thru with a delivery for me. I ordered same day basic at 8: 30am and had to phone them to find out when I would receive my delivery, time is now 3 and they said it may be late and could not promise a delivery for today, They suggested I order an uber! Bad service and this is the second time they could not deliver. The company starts off pleasant and then washes you away!
Food was good, We went there as a group and while serving the food they couldn’t remember who ordered what and same thing happened when they gave out the bills individually.
Visited on American Thanksgiving to celebrate with an American friend and the food was delicious. The service was great and I loved the enclosed heated patio. I'd definitely go back!
A great spot to meet friends for drinks and food after work on the patio in Yorkville. The place fills up pretty quickly. Dress is mix of business casual.
The waiter service was really bad and pethaic. She was non responsive and did not care or never came and asked us for service.each time we had to wait a long time to get anything done!
I had a great experience with Hemingway's-the food was great, the atmosphere was cozy and comfortable, and the people there were just so helpful and accommodating. They genuinely wanted to help me when I found out I lost a part of my engagement ring, and I cannot be more thankful for their kindness. Definitely will go back, next time to try their trivia nights as well.:) Thank you again!
