Hidden Valley Resort, Ascend Hotel Collection

It was a good relaxing getaway! Kids enjoyed the indoor pool the most. There was outdoor pool, jacuzzi hot tub, sauna, and spa onsite. The beach is a short walk away, which includes paddle boating, kayaking and canoeing included in the resort fee. We will plan to go again soon, we had a good time.

I should have turned around when I saw the empty lobby and the non-working waterfall. The 1st room (yes there were more) had an air conditioner that couldn’t keep the room cold. We asked for another room and this one had a bathtub faucet you could not fully shut off so off to the front desk. Our third attempt was a room with no view, damaged and worn furniture. Stained carpets, broken banisters and just a general tired and worn feeling. Regret the stay and will not return

Had a blast staying at the resort for the weekend recently, we had a dance competition in town for my daughter and chose to stay here as I had been many times as a kid with my parents.

Just stayed for a wedding, place leaking water all over, workers rude, rooms musty. They added $40 in fees that was supposed to be included. Would never recommend.

I recently stayed at Hidden Valley Resort and I have to say, the atmosphere was truly beautiful. The resort really put me in the Christmas spirit with all of the holiday decorations and festive atmosphere. The service at the resort was satisfactory, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and well-maintained, and I felt comfortable and relaxed during my stay. However, I was a bit surprised when I was asked to sign a waiver upon arrival. I wasn't sure why they didn't mention this during booking, but I ended up signing it anyway. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at Hidden Valley Resort and would recommend it to others.

First, I want to say that all of the front line staff were lovely, helpful, and caring. It's not their fault that the hotel is poorly managed.

This place is way over priced for the quality of the rooms and amenities. It has unbelievable potential if it was under the right management.

Slope side location next to Hidden Valley Ski resort, very clean spacious room, great pool and jacuzzi. Management under Debbie and front desk Kathy are top notch making sure your stay is perfect.

A lot of kids here running wild without parental supervision. No parents in sight. Running outside our window. Running up and down the halls. One parent pulled up beside our unit and took luggage out of their windows into their car. We won't be coming back here.

When I started to read reviews of this place I started to be unsure. Some sites said great some not so much.
When arriving, I was so pleasantly excited to see how great and big our room was.
The location was great. Staff were + courteous and helpful.
Yes perhaps there is some outdated carpet and walls, but if you’re just going to stay in your room and look at carpets and walls this isn’t the place to go.
This place is located in a beautiful spot. This time of year (fall) I was mesmerized by the beauty that surrounded us.
You won’t be let down if you’re an outdoors person who is looking for a comfortable place situated in a great spot.

We stayed at the hidden valley resort in the middle of August, 2022 for 3 nights and 4 days. The resort, in general, is good. The bartenders and people at the restaurant were very kind, though the food was not very great! The lake behind the resort is a very relaxing place and we had a couple of great pedal boating sessions.
The strangest thing which we experienced at the end of 2 days was NO house keeping services. They were contract employees as per the receptionist. Despite several requests to clean the room, they never came to clean nor changed foot mats and towels. The most awkward thing was the ladies at the reception took no responsibility when we complained about this. They said that these were contract employees and they could do nothing about it. I have never faced such rude and irresponsible responses at any hotel that I have stayed so far. With a little kid, the room started stinking.

At the end of the third day, a very elderly lady volunteered to do the house keeping stuff (it was too late by then as the next morning we left the resort). She said that she was off on Mondays and Tuesdays and she apologized for the treatment meted out to us.
Never would recommend the place for people who are particular about cleanliness!

We really enjoyed our recent stay at hidden valley resort. The hotel itself is outdated for sure and can use some renovations/paint etc on the walls, ceilings etc.which is why I removed a star. Our room was clean and comfortable though. The food was absolutely awesome - we had the dinner buffet on Friday night and then the breakfast buffet on Sunday morning, many delicious options to choose from and great price! We would definitely stay again.

Hidden Valley Resort MIGHT have been a wonderful place to stay in the past, perhaps five or more years ago. However, you are far better off paying a bit extra to stay elsewhere nearby.

First off, the toom layouts are wildly inconsistent, in addition to the carpet having stains and a strong odour. Items such as the bathtub tap, sink tap, and even dorrknobs are all well-worn and do not function appropriately.

Second, the staff come across as overworked, underpaid, and completely indifferent/apathetic to any needs or concerns you might have. We asked for additional bedding to replace the at-the-time dirty bedding and nobody came by after being told someone would bring it to us. I inquired again and again. I even offered to pick it up myself, but the reception desk worker was more invested in their phone and would not even look at me.

Third, the place is completely run down. My foot went through one of the shoddy wood steps out back and I nearly took a tumble down the while flight. When I raised this concern to hotel staff, nothing was done. Nobody could even be bothered to tape off the hazardous area and there were lots of kids tripping on the now busted step.

Lastly, and possibly the most serious issue, is the dining hall, if you can call it one. We had a reception here, and my mother in law is celiac. We asked and reminded the staff days in advance, as well as the day of and an hour prior that she CANNOT have ANY GLUTEN. They brought out a plate to her and told the table it was gluten-free. Ten minutes later an employee came out and informed us that the plate was in fact MADE WITH FLOUR. The employee AND the dining manager proceeded to deliver the fastest, most apathetic “apology” to her, followed by a shoulder shrug and a “I don’t know what you want me to do about it. ”

THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. My mother-in-law developed a moderate intestinal infection, which landed her in the hospital overnight. This all stemmed from blatant NEGLIGENCE. She could have developed a life-threatening infection from this ordeal.

TL;DR
Don’t stay here unless you like wasting money and being disappointed. All your concerns will be ignored. Definitely do not eat here if you have any allergies, they could not care less about you “problems” apparently.

This hotel could be really beautiful if only it was renovated to a good standard and offered more amenities The outdoor sport area is in need of repair and I had hoped to hire a boat to explore the lake but that was not possible.
The location is beautiful but you need a car to get into the local town for restaurants and amenities. There is a restaurant on site but only offered a buffet during our stay, I cannot comment on the quality of the food served.
The rooms are in need of upgrading but the beds are super comfy and the room was very clean.

Needs some Reno’s. Buffet for dinner was pretty average. Beautiful spot but they need to spend some money on this property. Not worth the prices they are charging.

The view was lovely, the room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. However, it is incredibly overpriced for the level of care and maintenance needed. I would not stay here again.

Filthy. It's clear that they don't do any more than vacuum and change the sheets and towels. So glad we only stayed for 1 night. The entire hallway carpeting is full of stains, old and new. We walked into a room that clearly had not been cleaned. There was a long hair on the bathroom counter, dust all over the wood furniture and dead flies on the window sills. We were moved to another room that wasn't properly cleaned either but the other hotel in the area was fully booked so we had no choice but to stay.

If you don't care about cleanliness, the staff is nice, they have super comfy beds, and the lake views are amazing.

Been coming here for 8 years every summer. Clean lake and a private beach, good food at the restaurant and clean rooms. Would like to see a few more kayaks back at the beachfront single rider ones would great.

This place clearly has the potential to be a nice getaway and I believe it has been in the past. The problem is they have allowed the place to be run down. For the amount of money they charge you per room, some things are just unacceptable. My first impression was not good. We thought we got a room with a balcony but instead we got a room with one small window. The room was spacious but did not include basic things. The couch wasn't even big enough to be a love seat.it a family room but we only had 1 chair. There wasn't nearly enough towels for a room set aside for family.

The hall way on the 3rd floor was STINK.and the smell remained for our entire stay.thankfully it didn't smell in the room.

They need to clean the carpets or replace them with darker colour carpets so we don't see every possible stain. Definitely off putting.

The vending machines were out of order for most of our visit (3 nights)

The pools were nice enough but clearly needed to be maintained better.certain parts of the pool area were simply dirty.

The place is definitely dated and needs up keep.

The stairs down to the lake are literally dangerous. Railings broken, steps uneven and clearly no one cleans the area. We saw the attached sock on day 1 of our trip and it was there the entire time.

The grounds are not well kept and I chalk this all up to a lack of staffing. Most of the staff are young adults who generally are the cleaning crew. Areas were neglected and some things unavailable due to no staff.

There is no business center or game room although it is advertised. You have to provide your own tennis rackets and balls and the water sports are limited.

The restaurants menu is severely reduced and is nothing like what is posted online. The food we had the one time we went was good but the choices available are not as advertised.

This place is overpriced and I won't be back. The grounds are beautiful and a good base to go to various things in town but for the price we paid, not worth it.

The staff we did see were nice and I was accommodated when I needed a room for a meeting. Much of the issues are clearly on the hands of the owner who has not provided enough to Staff to be able to provide the high level experience that people pay for.

Sorry can't find the needle to inflate the basketball, sorry the canoe guy went home because it rained a tiny bit this morning, sorry the canoe guy came in an hour late, sorry we don't have wood for the camp fire, sorry the person who knows where the HDMI cable is isn't here, sorry we haven't removed the arcade or the pool table from the website since we remodelled. All this with 100% occupancy. "SORRY" best describes this resort. The best thing it has is location and polite and friendly cleaning staff.

Old style 3 floor hotel. Nice views but if you have a disability, stay away. No elevator, lots of steps and you would have to drive to get to the beach.

A beautiful location on the lake and close to Algonquin Park. However, the hotel itself felt very run down. Several things that were very outdated and old. The hallway carpets, stairway to the beach, the beach chairs, to name a few. The hotel doors also made a ridiculous beeping sound if they weren't closed just right. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Overall, the price we paid felt much too expensive for the condition of the hotel.

We had a great trip and thanks to Sarah, she really made checking in very easy. She was very detailed about all the amenities and things to do in and around the area. I would definitely come back to this friendly hotel.

Very friendly staff, good location, great lakeview, a bit dated room styling but that's OK, the pros outweigh the cons. Skiing was excellent and that's what we went for.

This is our third time staying at this resort. I have stayed here once when it was Holiday Inn many years ago and liked it. I always got fair rates and promotions for this hotel as a member, hope they don't increase rates, also hoping it stays family friendly

We had a wonderful time as usual. Staff was friendly and helpful especially Mark in the morning. We absolutely loved talking to the bartender Karen who made sure our drinks were full! We have stayed here numerous times and always come back!

We had a wonderful trip! It's great that the pool, games room and restaurant are open. There are free rentals of snowshoes and sleds. Due to a staff shortage, I appreciated that they changed the weekend breakfast to a buffet in order to reduce wait times. Even though it's the winter, it's nice to have a balcony and take in the beautiful scenery!

Staff are awesome! Very helpful. Geoff, front desk manager, went above and beyond. Front desk staff very friendly and accommodating.

We had an AWESOME experience at Hidden Valley. Every staff we encountered from front desk to housekeeper was friendly & professional. Our lake view room with balcony was beautiful and facilities were spotless! Hidden Valley resort made our Muskoka trip amazing; we could not have asked for a better stay! We will definitely be back.

We had a had a great experience with Hidden Valley Resort! Our family room was nice and warm with a fireplace, and we had an excellent view of the lake. We had breakfast three times here and dinner twice. Every meal was great, juice and fruit were fresh, and steak sauce was very tasty. My husband and I enjoyed our night time at the bar, and the bartender keeps us entertained as well as a full drink at all times. The one thing my husband and I noticed about Hidden Valley, compare to the other place we stayed, is the Hidden Valley staff never stop working, they always doing something to better our stay.

Nice location and scenery. Parts of the resort and new and fresh and others are very dated.
So far the staff have been great.
Food in the dining room is limited in selection but yummy.
The pool is a good size but shockingly cold and hard to stay in for long even moving around and swimming. Sadly the jets in the hot tub were not working so we had to pack up and warmup in the shower in the room.
Exercise room and dry sauna are closed.
Seems kid friendly and accessible.
The lake view from my room was great. The deer who were eating grass 4 meters from our room at sunset was very special and cute.

Easy access to arrowhead, where the leaf color was amazing! Great scenery on the patio. Very good service from the bartender and the meal was excellent! Couldn’t ask for a better night with my families.

The room had a very beautiful view of lake and the room was spacious and comfortable beds. The valley is very quiet and chill, away from city. Rebecca at the front desk were very nice and helpful.

Great place to stay with reasonable price! I visit it with my family on the Thanks Giving long weekend, to see the fall leaves. Affordable price while other resorts nearby were way more expensive, even if we booked 1 months in advance. Stuff was great, the front desk girl is very nice. A lot of small decors in the lobby area, I believe the resort is well managed and maintained.

If you’ve got children and want a great Muskoka getaway, Hidden Valley is the best Choice. It’s a family and pet friendly resort, with many activities, well managed and well maintained. We’ve been coming here around twice a year for 3 years, summer time for their beach, canoes kayak and other waterfront activities, winter we skiing, snowshoeing and sledding. The resort is located just besides the lifting. Highly recommended!

Had a very good weekend overall. The resort itself was in a good location right in the lakeside and hillside. Close to Huntsville and several other attractions like the Lion’s look out. Staff where very attentive and quick to deliver any item and information needed. The temperature in the room was comfortable but a little bit noisy at the night. The balcony had a nice view and the weather was perfect to sit out on and relax.

Staff was very friendly. Rooms may need a bit of updating but, it was a nice place to stay. Would visit again

Stayed in the family room with my husband and son. The room had stunning views and easy access to the indoor swimming pool. Even if the sauna room is not open for use due to restrictions, the view of the indoor pool was amazing, my son stays entertained. Nice extended weekend break!

I just wanna say that this place is really worth visiting from customer service to amazing views and really good food. It was our first time here and this resort stood up to its expectations so much that I haven’t even checked out of my room and putting a review for you guys. It made an awesome experience for me and my wife on her birthday.
The receptionist even upgraded us to a better room with good view at no cost.

The staff were friendly, the man that worked in the dining room was very accommodating when I came down for breakfast. Clean rooms, gorgeous views, fresh clean air - what more could you ask for? !

Attended a golf trip and stayed in this resort. The breakfast was amazing, and they have lunch box to go. We had bonfire at the night time near the water. Stunning sunset view and friendly stuff.

A lot of the reviews posted for here were mixed - people either loved it, or had major issues. My experience was the former - I loved my stay here. Plenty to do, lots of amenities available.

The hotel and rooms were clean, but the decor was a little tired - by this I mean the decor is a little older, but still fine by my, and most, standards. If you're looking for an upscale, modern, and freshly decorated hotel in a bustling metropolis, this is not the place for you. If you love the ski hill chalet style, exposed wood and a laid back atmosphere, then this will be right up your alley.

Give it a try! You'll be glad you did! PS - the lakefront rooms with balcony are worth the extra bit of money!

We very much enjoyed our 3 night stay to celebrate our 30th anniversary! The hotel was clean and all staff friendly and helpful. The fall colors were at their peak which was lovely!

Stayed here with my family and friends last night. The restaurant inside hotel doesn’t have much choice for dining and the waitress seems in bad mood and really don’t care about us. The room is clean but really has so much noisy from out door neighbor on making fun and joking, talking, slam the door over and over again at midnight which really annoying us.

Every time I visit Muskoka, I choose to stay in Hidden Valley, especially with families and my kids. I’ve stayed at this property many times and it never disappoint. Staff are always great and the property is beautiful and in a great location. Just few minutes away from the town, and easy access to trails and parks.

My parents has come to visit for Father’s Day and we have been so happy with the accommodation and service here at the Hidden Valley. Once again, Angi on Front Desk has gone above and beyond. We are so grateful for her help around Father’s day weekend and helping us organise everything! Love love love!

At this time no bar or restaurant. Only breakfast. I would recommend Deerhurst over here if you can get comparable pricing

Spent a week here with my family. It was such a wonderful space with lots of activities to keep you occupied.

You couldn’t drag us out of their stunning private beach. They provided us with kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, peddle boats, tennis racquets, basketballs! Their lake is friendly to swim in with comfortable seating on the sandy beach.

Lots of attractions nearby as well - we went to play golf at Deerhurst, went to beautiful hiking trails, rented out a pontoon.

The only couple drawbacks were due to Covid we struggled with housekeeping. Also the restaurant staff could have been more pleasant and quick. We had to wait 30min for 3 cocktails.

Really enjoyed the experience. Large spacious rooms with a fantastic view of the lake. And the warm showers were heavenly!
