Hillcrest Home Hardware

I live nearby and have been to this store many times and have made many purchases over the years. I've always been polite and friendly but that's never been reciprocated. Unlike other family owned businesses, there's never an acknowledgment of a familiar customer, never an appreciation for your business. Never a smile.

Recently I came in looking for a particular product. I was reluctant to ask the older gentleman where to find it because he tends to make you feel like a nuisance, but I still asked. After walking me to the product, I examined it and told him that unfortunately it wasn't the right one for me. Instead of suggesting other options or just saying "sorry it didn't work out", he shook his head, angrily threw the product back into the bin and marched back to his counter, making it crystal clear that I had just wasted his time.

For me, that was the last straw at this store.

The convenience store of hardware shops. Tiny shop with limited assortment, but surprisingly seem to always have what you need.
Friendly yet grumpy staff, but very knowledgeable!

My mom (who does not have a cellphone) says the people working here are super helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. She's been to another home hardware in her own area and did not get even close to the kind of quality service that she get from this one.

It is what it is, if you're a homeowner and need a fuse or some wd40 or paint should be fine. If you're a contractor, this isn't a building center so call ahead.

Staff at this store don't wear face masks (one staff member had no mask, one had a mask hanging off one ear without covering his face).: (
This is on top of a pattern of ignoring or dismissing customers (based on my experience, when I absolutely have had to shop there - this will be the last time for sure).

Terrible customer service on the phone. The guy who answered the phone was extremely rude, all because I accidentally called him "beother" (aka friend).
This is the kind of people who ruin a company's reputation. He should be spoken to I with I got his name.

Great fast service during the pandemic. They have a great system setup that keeps their line moving! Keep up the good work!

Dont bother emailing your order at the "order at Hillcrest home hardware " or whatever it is because you do not get the courtesy of a reply. Off to home depot online I go.

This is a very good store! Service is friendly and informative. They are great for needing and wanting something in a pinch!

Great experience! They answered the phone right away, found the products we needed, and had the order ready for pickup immediately. Super helpful as we weren't able to find the same service at other stores.

I just picked up my fire pit from them today and I didn't mind driving there from north of Toronto:) They were the ONLY location that actually picked up their phone.and when they did, it was clear they were going to help me to the best of their ability (in these crazy times) and they DID. Fast COVID lockdown curbside service! Much quicker than big box stores. It was easy to call ahead to confirm inventory on hand and they were willing to be put it aside for pickup. By the way, there is great ice cream at Dutch Delight at end of block - so easy to get hardware and get a tasty treat at same stop.

The service and people that work there are the best. Been shopping there for years. They never disappoint. Prices are respectable as well. 5* place.

Was surprised by the service. I went in to purchase a replacement part for a moen Kitchen faucet and was given to me free as the item is under warranty.
I have had to pay for it at the big box stores in the past. Will be doing all my business here from now on.

A great little old fashioned neighbourhood hardware store. Don't go expecting home depot here. Ask for help, share your problem, complain about the city and young people, get what you need, and enjoying the sound of the chimes in the door as you leave. (I'm not really sure if it had those).

During the lockdown, they take your order, pick it up for you tell you the total, payment is done by interac or credit card through glass. Very safe and quick service.

Has everything you need for at home handyman supplies/tools, cookware, outdoor supplies, minor electrical devices, etc. It's the best thing I've found in the neighborhood (which isn't to downplay it). The staff are also friendly, personable and helpful to boot.

They are often rude. They weren't wearing masks (record number of cases today). 1 staff person was behind plexiglass, they other was not.

Small but mighty, it has a little bit of everything, don't expect big ticket items like wood planks, etc but for everyday life it will work for you

Bought 2 items and asked about the return policy. Was told it is not a problem to return if not used. I returned one of the items in 5 minutes after purchase. The person in cashier called me a loser and asked not to come back to the store. Stay away!

Need anything in the area of hardware? This place probably has it. Attentive staff who know their trade. Great advice. Another wychwood treasure.
