This company's service would barely be worth it for free, let alone the costly monthly fee.
In the beginning, I was promised 'more leads that I could handle' - within two months I started to regret my decision to join as I was getting a couple a month. Chasing down the few quality leads I did receive, this service doesn't even come close to paying for itself, let alone making a profit for its users.
When I complained, they immediately reduced my monthly cost by over $200 and offered to add service categories that I don't even do. They even increased my service area without my knowledge or consent to increase the number of leads, but I was still getting garbage but now it was from places 2-3 hours away.
Upon review, their reputation on reviews and Facebook is terrible - the bulk of the good reviews are from the leads themselves as the contractor did good work, or from Homestars clients that sound like an AI wrote them.
Stay away and just hustle - your money would be far better spent on boosting social media ads etc

For small business owners I would not reccomend to sign up with homestars. They make you sign a 1 contract and in the contract says you can cancel anytime with a 30% fee to pay and that’s ok. At the beginning they promised they would give you so many leads, but after you will get maybe 1 a month. After 4 months I tried to contact them to cancel the plan, they never answered the phone or emails, they totally ignored me for like another 4 months because they knew I wanted to cancel, after that I stoped making payments, and they called me right way saying that I had to pay the montly fee, and I was totally fine to pay it but I wanted to cancel right away on the phone. The person I was speaking to said that she couldn’t do the cancellation and that a manager would have contacted me to cancel. Never heard back from anyone. Totally a scam.

They are doing fraud with people who wants to work with them…. They force me to put my credit card details worst people

I'm a contractor with home stars, when signing up they promised an abundance of leads which gives me a chance to go sell my self and get jobs. This is a cost of 420.00 a month, I do beautiful and honest work. In my first month they gave me ZERO leads for the sum 420.00, nothing, CONTRACTORS beware these people are LIARS

Im very unhappy with the services Homestar offer. The app is absolutely useless no one return email or fallow up with issues. No one follows up.

I've been in business for over 35 years so I know and APPRECIATE good service. Being a Realtor, it is imperative that whoever I refer to my clients I can rely on. Not an issue here with Steve. I was stuck in a jam with a damaged carpet and a party to host. Forget the big box stores. They would take3 weeks and back ordered. Steve got er done that night and did a great job at a very reasonable price. Next, he'll get to do my entire 2nd floor and my sister's house as well. You won't be sorry if you call him.

I am a contractor. We were signed up with homestars with the option from home stars to cancel within 14 days. Every month I am forced to pay $450.00. Home stars does not return my calls, email and will not stop this fraudulent charges. I am not sure how to stop this nightmare. As a small business this is the worst thing ever.

Yesterday we had a Reliance representative visit our home with the objective of discussing the feasibility of getting a water softening system installed. The representative was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and professional in his approach and left us with a positive attitude towards the use of Reliance to do the necessary work for us. Furthermore, we were experiencing difficulties with our water heating system at the same time and Phil went above and beyond his area of immediate responsibility by inspecting the heating device and fixing it pending a more permanent solution. My wife and I will have no reservations regarding the recommendation of Reliance as the service organization of choice for Home Comforts provision.

I used HomeStars to help find a contractor for my kitchen/bathroom reno and it was a great way to save time. I will use them again for my next project, especially, when I look for someone specific for a specific project.

After my experience with this application, I advise everyone to stay away from it, especially service providers. I accepted to join this application after several calls from one of its agents called Nicholas in Burlington, Ontario, and then he told me that I could unsubscribe at any time and I paid for the service 500 dollars, imagine 500 dollars a month for no When I accepted this amount, I thought that I would get a new job every day, but I was surprised after ten days that I got only one job and did not receive a response from its owner. They even stopped receiving my calls, so I resorted to the Visa company to simply cancel. These are a group of thieves who want to steal your money if you are a service provider and want to use you if you are a customer.

I hired Jonathan to install doors casing and baseboard throughout my whole house (4500sqft) they came on time and did a phenomenal job, paying attention to detail as well as making sure me and my husband were satisfied throughout the whole process. Jonathan was awesome and made sure we were happy, I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to get new additions done to their home. We're building a new home and are definitely having Jonathan come back and do the job for us.

We recently had major repairs done to our foundation by EC Foundations. They went beyond what was quoted.we couldn’t recommend them more.

We hired a interlocking company (Kingsway) years ago. The company did terrible job for our backyard patio and surrounded area. They came to give a quote and then disappear for about six weeks. One day they called and rush us to answer if they can come to do the job in 2 days! They didn't finish the work in the first day and left a lot of mess, plastic bags were flying everywhere, garbage were not cleaned and did not let us know when they will come back. At this point, we already paid them $6000. The next day we went out and came back home late. One of the guy from the company (I think it's the owner) came to do the polymeric sand without letting us know in advance while no one was home. He did a very rough job and sand were spread out everywhere including the grass. He couldn't find us to get the final payment which was $800 and left a rock on top of a dirty plastic bag in front of our front door. When we came home, they left 11 messages in answer machine asking us to pay them the $800. We called them right after we heard the message and paid them the $800 they were longing for the next day. It's been years passed, our patio were full of weeds and the level was uneven and causing us a lot of work to maintain it.

I wrote a review at HomeStars to reflect our experience with this company. Homestars screened it and did not approve our review due to we were not able showing them the invoice! We were so upset with this company and don't want them to get any close to our house. These people were not good people and I want to protect my family. I send Homestars some photos of the people who working in our house that day but they still did not approve it. Apparently, they care about $$ more than the homeowner's actual experience. Homestars has been in the market for years now, I did not and will never trust in this site!

Awful company. They only recommend the contractors who bring the most activity to their site vs the ones with the best reviews. They send out blasts to random contractors with service requests without even vetting them. On top of all this they treat their paying contractors terribly and charge them for poor service and fake leads. All around a disgraceful company.

Posted job needing to be done and had immediate responses. Confident in choosing a listed company as they were already reviewed and approved.

Mike and his team at Quality Roofing were professional, accomodating, punctual and detail oriented! Excellent worksmanship at a fantastic price. Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to repair or replace their roof!

Our eaves trough needed to be repaired. We noticed during heavy rain, water would over flow out and down onto garage roof, and leaked into the interior back wall of the garage.
After getting several estimates, I was fortunate to find MCBM Contracting & Roofing Ltd on Home Stars. All reviews indicated customers were very happy with the service.
I spoke to Marcelo about the eaves trough issue, and a date was set up to meet immediately.
Marcelo arrived fully equipped with ladders etc, and he did a thorough inspection of our roof.
Next he explained the two problem areas:
1-eaves trough over flow was a result of normal wear and tear expected from a house of 36+ years.
Replacement was recommended.
2-leaking into the garage occured because of gap in roof flashing and can be repaired.
He also stated the shingles on the roof are good for another 2-3 years.
Marcelo next sat down with us to discussed the cost for repairs. The replacement of the eaves trough and repair of the roof flashing were all reasonable (when comparing to previous estimates) and we agreed to go ahead with this estimate.
Although we weren’t rushing to replace the roof shingles,
out of curiosity we asked what it would cost us.
It’s important to note Marcelo did not try to upsell us something we didn’t need, as stated earlier he said the singles were good for 2-3 years. An estimate for new shingles was presented and we agreed if it was adjusted a bit we would do both repairs and the roof immediately, provided a better price was offered.
Now we understand running a business costs, but we wanted a fair price for us and Marcelo. We worked together and eventually agreed on an estimate that was much more reasonable.
Within 4 days the roofing team was ready to go. The team was lead by Salvio, they were hard working and very knowledgeable and completed our job in 4 hours as well as cleaning up.
The eaves trough team was lead by foreman Alex who started 2 days later and completed the job in 3 hours.

Marcelo ended up getting our business because he was professional, communicated well during and after the project.
Although MCBM Contracting & Roofing was not the lowest estimate, we had definitely had confidence in Marcelo.
His roofing & eaves trough team are honest and took great pride in their work-a true reflection of MCBM Contracting & Roofing Ltd.
We are super happy with the finished project, and would not hesitate to recommend MCBM Contracting & Roofing.

I didn’t use Home Stars to find a painter. I already knew of him from previous work. But can see the advantage of using home stars in future.

Reliable-the work with the shingles replacement was done efficiently and the Fyfe's team worked around the clock to complete the job sooner than expected, regardless of the unpredictable weather.

I should’ve read the reviews before signing up as a contractor. If you’re an up & coming contractor please stay very far from this service. You’ll get way more leads of Facebook & Instagram. There’s a reason why they lock you in for a year. Please contractors spend some time build your page on ig or other socials & ppl will contact you. All of our leads are from word of mouth.

Cheaters, they told me before I sign the contract I can cancel my account if I give notice 60 days in advance and I trust them, I sign and now they told me it’s 12 month contract. I am not geeting leads from them.

I am single and not at all handy so when I needed someone to repair my washing machine I searched on HomeStars and found AC Appliance Repair. Recently I needed to find a plumber who could deal with my broken jetted tub and again, with the help of HomeStars, found Waterworks. Both of these contractors provided excellent service and I will call them again if needed. I couldn't have found them without HomeStars. I love the rating system and being able to read other people's reviews - very helpful.

I've had two very positive experiences using HomeStars. We had a raccoon problem a while back and HomeStars guided me to a pest removal specialist who turned out to be both more reasonable and more responsive than other pest removal services I have dealt with. The problem was quickly and professionally resolved. My other experience was in finding a roofer. HomeStars definitely identified the roofing firm I ultimately chose. I had solicited a number of estimates. When all was said and done, we short-listed two firms who seemed the only credible and trustworthy firms who had shown up to estimate. The firm most highly rated by HomeStars became my choice because their estimator insisted on climbing my roof (tall house, high pitched roof) to fully survey it. He discovered a chimney problem I was unaware of, documented it in photos for me and the chimney repair people, and then coordinated with the chimney company so that the chimney repairs were done before the new roof went on to minimize traffic and damage to the new roof. HomeStars' rating and my choice were further and fully vindicated when the overall roof was done. The site was maintained scrupulously, to protect things the roofer put plywood over the windows and doors, and tarps over the gardens, the actual roof work was thorough and done with proficiency. The site was meticulously cleaned up when they finished. They used the best materials available and provided me with all the necessary documentation and warranty support. Their estimated cost and final cost were the same. Their price was completely in line with the estimate from the only other firm I had felt would be trustworthy, as the two estimates were within 38 cents of each other.

Homestars is not the independent review site it claims to be. The more a company pays them, the better their reviews. If the price is right, they’ll squash poor reviews, post good ones or create amazing ones out of thin air. They are guilty of promoting unethical and criminal contractors.

I just recently had my kitchen renovated and used Home Stars to find a contractor to perform the work. This was my first major renovation since purchasing my condominium. The kitchen was the original from when the condo was built over 40 years ago. Dave, my contractor met with me very quickly once I requested a quote. He prepared a very detailed design and was able to work within my budget. He also took the time to explain what the costs involved were for and did not try to hide anything. For a single woman it is very important to know that when you hire someone, you don't want to feel like you are begin riped off and I never felt that way when Dave and I met. The change in layout that he suggested for the kitchen has given me a lot more counter and storage space without having to do any demolition of the existing layout. I am more than pleased with the finished work and could not be happier. His colleague Frank was also extremely hard working and very professional. I would highly reecommend using Home Stars and having Dave design and research your kitchen renovation.

I only have positive things to say about HomeStars. I have used it numerous times - building a fence, many handiman jobs, painting, drapery install, plumbing issues etc etc. In fact, I won't do anything on my home without first consulting with HomeStarts and picking their best rated companies. The reviews have always been bang on and I really appreciate the detail that many homeowners put into them. For instance, my recent move was made that much better by the fact that I selected a highly rated moving company from HomeStars and numerous reviews had made mention of a specific head crew member - I requested this individual and he made what is usually a very unpleasant experience, moving house, into a smooth and even enjoyable day! I used House and Condo Painters for two jobs including drywall repair and painting. In both cases I found their quality and speed excellent and their prices fair. I recommend them for any job involving drywall and or painting.

I find that Home Stars is a great place to be able to check out various contractors. I review the customer comments made, date and website of the business concerned. This allows me to make an informed decision as to who I hire.

Whenever I am looking for a professional for a home repair service, I read HomeStar reviews in conjunction with a list of service professionals that others in my social network have used firsthand. The reviews have helped me find someone I can work with. More recently, this is how I found the company to replace our roof. That roofer, has tried to manipulate the review process to score a perfect grade, even asking me to increase my grade in exchange for a “a gift. ” I hope they will take some action to curb this behaviour; as, it will only serve to taint the review processs. Overall, HomeStars has served me well.

I have been with Home Stars for a short time, but have had good feed back on my listings, I feel we made the right move to list with Home Stars
