This place is highly over rated. The bartender is garbage. That one black guy who works behind the bar is full of attitude. And he hates his job. I Can tell and feel the energy off him No customer skills at all. I recently move here and bought condo. And I try every restaurant around me. Never had a an issue. Except this restaurant. There’s lots Of local restaurants around here. That would welcome you more then this place. Don’t waste your time going there. Just my opinion.
This place is a must-visit destination! Hong Shing has been around for decades but it has a modern and vibrant atmosphere that pairs well with their exciting take on traditional Chinese cuisine. Get the Chicken Wings, as they are possibly the best in the northern hemisphere! Also, their cocktail program is inventive and alone is worth the trip.
Everything was amazing here! It was upscale Chinese food in this area. The baijiu cocktail bar in the restaurant was incredible. I had such a great experience. The bartenders were so lovely. The creativity of cocktails was amazing. Definitely check it out!
I only had the chicken balls, I forgot to take a picture. But it was so delicious and I can’t wait to order there again I ordered on Uber eats. I was surprised to see online it said temporary closed? No! But it is closed on Tuesdays I do know that Because today’s Tuesday and I couldn’t order
Came back for the first time since pandemic reign on us. They updated their branding with more modern and sleek vibe. It is pleasing to see they kept up with the consistent food quality.
The reasons I knocked one star off are because the menu choices have slimmed down, the pricing went up quite a bit, and the portion is reduced. To be fair they aren't the only ones doing this as a lot of small businesses are on a recovery and costs on virtually all raw ingredients are on the rise due to inflation.
My family and I love this place. I have yet to find better Chinese food in the GTA. Staff are friendly. I love the fact that the service is quick Within a few minutes the food is at the table witch when you are starving is very much appreciated.
I always loved this place as it was my go to spot whenever I was downtown. Food was always good as was service. Haven’t been here for awhile since COVID shut down my downtown work for 19 months. Wow! Was I ever impressed with the service unlike any restaurant I’ve ever been to! It was outstanding! Great ambiance. We dined on the chilli chicken, garlic beef tenderloin and the garlic fried rice. Excellent!
Man, the owner is rude. Indian dude walking in with his phone in his hand, automatically assumes I am a delivery driver and asks me for order number to pick up. We can't afford to dine in here? He is also rude to delivery drivers by making them wait. One delivery guy kept his cool and other just left the restraunt on how much time he was taking to respond.
Food was alright. I don't know what's the hype about this place.
There are lots of other places along the street who are more welcoming and respectful.
I don’t usually write reviews but I think I have to write this one. My husband and I went to eat here after a concert we attended last night. I would like to say that the service and food their was excellent. The host at the front was very professional. Unfortunately there was an incident that occurred with another customer. The customer was clearly over her limit in drinks and was asking for another shot. Thankfully the host denied her the drink respectfully because he believed she reached her limit. She didn’t like that decision and started making a scene. She called him the “N” word and when he tried to escort her outside she spat on his face. When we left he apologized for the incident to everyone at the restaurant. I hope the restaurant reads this review and knows that he shouldn’t be the one to apologize. He is a great host and don’t let this event put you down. We will return again when we are in the area.
My best friend and I had such a good time eating on the patio at Hong Shing. The ambiance was great, and the food was absolutely delicious! We both really loved the shrimp fried rice and black bean beef.
The waitstaff were superb, probably the nicest I’ve met. Friendly, endearing, and nothing but helpful, it really made our experience a good one.
We have been coming for 25yrs and this is the FIRST time the staff were interactive with us the SERVICE WAS FIRST CLASS! Special mention to Ranger and the server with purple hair. Our experience was INCREDIBLE great job everyone.
Really good Chinese restaurant. Their food taste good, use good ingredients, not too salty, perfect portion size. I ate here more than 10 times and never got sick or anything.
I can tell the chef at this restaurant knows what he is doing. At Chinese restaurants, the quality of the chef is really important, and they got a great chef.
Cool little spot for Hong Kong street style food. They let us in late before close and got us delicious hot food. Definitely check them out for affordable yummy authentic eats in DT!
Based solely on this order Friday sept 3 at roughly 7 pm. (Past orders.roughly 10 over 2 years have been good) this was an $85 order roughly consisting of their suggested (on paper) rice, beef tenderloin, 2 orders of wings, and 4 orders of spring rolls. The only edible item was the beef tenderloin. The rest got tossed.
The food was decently priced, tasted good, but the service was incredibly fast during dinner hours. Our first dish was served within a couple minutes of ordering, with the rest following shortly after. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.
20 years and still going strong. Forts tried it when moved to Toronto 20 years ago and I keep going back and sending my friends thete. Try the new cod dishes l like salty cod and chicken fried rice. Always good. They even have their own beer! Try the red pocket special. I love the noodle dishes and they have one of the best hot and sour soups in the city. Open late it's a classic post clubbing venue. Try everything. Also a great spot from larger groups sharing a meal family style. Love The Hong Shing.
I’ve eaten here since I was a teenager and I cannot tell you how much I love this place. The staff are always friendly and the food is always delicious, I always get the sweet and sour pork here and I find other places just don’t cook it as good as Hong Shing does. But today I tried their duck and wow! The skin was crispy, the meat was tender and savoury and just so flavourful. 10/10 all the time!
Come for the food, come back for the service. Most other late night Chinatown restaurants are coasting on location (except Rosewood which is still great for dimsum). Hong Shing have much younger friendlier cooler servers who get the late night energy while still being elegant. Elegance shouldn’t mean a lack of warmth and friendliness. The balance here welcomes you to come back. Service is fast but not rushed and the dishes come in the proper sequence.
Amazing ginger lobster of course. By default everyone should order that. The duck is also really top notch. You know duck is really good when it reheats extremely well and this made for the best leftovers ever.
Also numerous guests mentioned that they had been coming back here ever since it opened. That’s wonderful to know.
Consistently great food at this place. I typically only visit during late night hours but the produce has always been great. Staff can seem a little annoyed, but understandable considering the *sobriety* of the late night clientele. Still, they’re always helpful with recommendations and willing to take special orders. Absolutely amazing food. Fresh, fast, tasty and inexpensive. Service was excellent. Not a big place so avoid dinner time rush. Highly recommend! Definitely recommend.
Honestly was blown away by Hong Shing. Had alright expectations going into it just because I assumed it was just like any other cheap Chinese place. Not at all. Started with the wonton soup and man it was good! Ordered the medium BBQ plate and couldn't finish it, it was so big. My fiance and I struggled to finish that and the garlic bok choy plate. If you want the BBQ just order the duck. The best option for sure.
I order from this restaurant regularly and love their spicy fried squid. The last couple of times I’ve ordered it it came over fried and like rubber. What is going on Hong Shing?
Very nice Chinese Restaurant. Small compared to others with the family flare to it. Meals are made to order, no buffet, that was a pleasant relief. Appears to be family ran. The choices are numerous, portions generous and the flavour is excellent. Just walking by, planned on eating Chinese and this restaurant said, come in, you will not be disappointed. We were not disappointed. Will will return on our next trip to Toronto, this place will be on the top of our repeat list.
I absolutely love this restaurant! Best chineese food I have ever had in my life! I moved to brampton and I'm so sad they dont have a location here YET.please expand your restaurant because we need it in brampton and I'm sure others feel the same. Fresh, tastes amazing, service is always good when I visit (familiar faces for the last 10 years) love it!
The food was amazing and loved the ambience. The food smelt so good and mouth watering that we couldn't wait to take pictures. Loved the chicken and especially the prawns they were perfect. Would recommend everyone to go there.
Best Chinese food in the city. Best spicy shrimp, hot sauce, crispy beef, and chicken wings. Also great fried rice, great everything. Also perfect after a night out, Hong shing will give you life.
Friendly staffs and speedy service with quality BBQ meats at a reasonable price. I'd walk all the way from Jarvis to Hong Shing to satisfy my BBQ meat cravings! A bonus is that they take reservations for larger party so make sure to reserve one during busy hours:)
Not a great place. The waiter asked that we (group of 4 friends) have to pay our bill in one transaction as they were having large number of visitors (in truth there were hardly 5 tables occupied). The food was okay. Also there was a poster at the entrance door from the city corporation telling that the restaurant was warned about the hygiene.
I purchase from this Restaurant very regularly and they are not consistent at all especially with the egg Fried rice it’s sometimes really grainy properly fried with sufficient soy sauce, its what made me keep coming back, I bought tonight and the rice was the worst ever, I had to discontinue eating, the rice was over cooked chunks of white rice all over, hardly had soy sauce. I placed the order to go. As I said I love this restaurant I just wish they would be more consistent.
Late Night place to get food in China Town Toronto Open until about 4 am everyday Wide assortment of dishes and items The restaurant is clean and well lit Like the way they do the chilli chicken. They add noodles to the rice. Everything is seasoned perfect The general Tao and ginger spicy beef are great too. Definitely a place to go
I have been to this restaurant twice in the past two months and would reccommend it to everyone. The price is right. The dinner for 2 is very delicious and very filling. Fast service and Friendly staff made it great experience.
Decent prices, good quantity, friendly staff, food is good. The only drawback is that they do not accept debit cards. Only credit and cash accepted here.
Yummy food. Lots of variety. Love the option of half orders; allows you to try multiple dishes without wasting too much. Although leftovers of great food isn't a bad thing by any means! ;)
