I feel like the interior design and the beverage and snack options are a waste of space in such a great location. When you walk in there you literally can’t find anything that would look interesting

Hauled a single origin Brazilian roast Americano on the commute to work. I always wanted to try this joint, I love the vibe and the artwork and quirky vibe always drew me in. Overall, good coffee but not earth moving compared to others but still a great place to grab a yummy cup of joe from a deserving local business with great grass roots of Toronto. I really wanted one of their reusable thermos but 65 bucks is wayyy more than steep and completely unrealistic but I really dig their logo.
The server was a super nice lady and really knew her stuff about sourcing of beans and flavor of coffee to make phenomenal recommendations.

Been going for years - no matter who is behind the bar or what coffee is in the hopper, every time I visit the coffee is delicious and the baristas are always friendly, thoughtful and skilled at what they do. This place is contributes much to the community. I’m glad they’re there.

My go to cafe whenever I'm in Toronto! Amazing place, staff are friendly and their fresh made sourdough bread with homemade jam is DELICIOUS! I tried the Russian tea for the first time today as a suggestion and I'm so glad I did! It was perfect!

Consistently good coffee, also a great place to pick up beans for your own at-home brewing. The back patio is always a nice nook away from the buzz just steps away. Non dairy beverages for your drinks are available.

Impromptu adventure …. The sign made a promise I couldn’t pass up …. Both the coffee and the patio delivered! There are birds chirping!

Pretty disappointed, cashier seemed a bit lost and had to repeat myself many times on my order. Mocha that I got wasn’t even warm/hot, it was just room temp. Chai latte that my friend got didn’t taste that great.

The cafe latte was really good. The breakfast (egg thing) tasted old, and overcooked. It looked really good, but did not at all deliver on quality and taste. Barista was friendly, and knew what they were doing.

Well who knew a Vanilla Latte and a Pistachio Brazilian Chocolate could make me come back to this place several times in a week? Absolutely brilliant coffee, the sweetest staff members, and a great environment to chill/ study/ catch up with friends/ or even gather your thoughts! Highly recommended

Very cool vibe! One of the baristas was so kind, not only did he come to clean my coffee spill which was not even that much, but also he brought me a second coffee for free.

Loooooooooved their coffee! The shop was a bit too full of stuff to sell (not unlike SBUX) but less corporate. The baristas were very friendly and efficient. Which is good first thing in the morning
Update: Forgot to say that they have colored pencils and drawing paper and books on the table to doodle on while you get caffeinated! That was fun.

Really great coffee shop homely great place to talk and meet up with friends. Two young men working were helpful made me some tasty Sencha. The brownie was great would recommend for anyone looking for a hot drink.

Decor, ambiance and staff should get 5 stars, but the Americano I ordered was like very expensive brown water.

Nice place. With good coffee and friendly staff plus lots of goodies! I always try my favorite drink cappuccino with one of their pastries. If you are passing by and looking for a nice warm or even cold drink, I recommend to step in and check their menu.

One of my favourite coffee shops downtown. Always can identify the cafe by the red trim and red door. Espresso is strong with a smooth taste. Iconic black cups with red top. Love the under counter espresso machines, gives it a clean look. Staff are always pleasant and friendly. Pastries are home made. My favourite is the "jam cookie", sweet jam in the center with a not too sweet surrounding cookie. Makes my day better every time I get it. Somewhere to check out for all coffee lovers near and far. I'm happy it still stayed open and made it during the pandemic.

Great local spot with friendly staff. The coffee is rich and the ginger molasses cookie pairs well. The patio in the back is cute and a nice escape from busy queen st.

Seating might be hard to come by, but in the cold winter the cafe is a godsend.

Between their cozy atmosphere, coffee, pastry, and spiced wine, I cannot recommend this place more.

Probably the fanciest, tastiest coffee place on Queen street. Hell, they even have local cheese and mulled wine, and they even have their own merch.

Really good coffee and a nice place to grab a quick breakfast or brunch. The breakfast sandwiches are very good. The baked goods are also good. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Good coffee, quick service, great open air patio in back, a few picnic tables, if you are lucky enough to get one, a fantastic place to sit while you wait for coffee to work.

Ordered the coffee jelly and a latte. Super tasty but not drowned in cream and sugar; the taste of the coffee really shines through.

Such a warm and welcoming environment! The espresso and pastries are amazing and the staff are so kind. I definitely recommend their strawberry rhubarb square!

The food and coffee are of great quality, Detour is a nice roaster although not my favourite in Toronto. Food has a yummy homemade feel and great cafe quality. The baristas are all well trained and pull great shots. This shop is in a great location and has seamless service, being a long time customer (since the shop is so close to my workplace) I've noticed that sometimes the customer service can be a bit hit or miss, when there are lines or new employees you can sense some frustration although, I can't blame them since it is a fast paced and busy location/job. All around dependable service and goods: 3

Love going here coffee, and usually go here here I'm out in the afternoon. Really like the coffee, the staff is always nice and friendly, and the shop itself is very nice! Definitely reccomend trying

So I have allot to say about this place but let’s start from the beginning I was born in New York and I took a trip up to Toronto on a church group venture type thing and we stopped here in the morning and everyone was super nice and helpful but we all had to go to the bathroom and they weren’t the cleanest so for that

Great coffee and the pastries are decent too, not too sweet and goes well with the coffee. My favourites are the vanilla latte and the mint iced coffee. Chai latte was really disappointing though.

Very helpful staff I was new there and they had no problem explaining their drinks. Their matcha latte is so yummy! Would definitely go again.

Tasty treats and cozy atmosphere (I especially used to love their backyard patio!), but I personally haven’t been wowed by their coffee. Certainly not bad, just not my favourite in the area.

The coffee is good, the pastries are good, and you can order right at the window without having to go indoors (why don't more places do this?). If you are a person who does dog walks anywhere in the queen and university area and you want a latte without having to go inside and leave fido outdoors, this is the best way to do it. Also, there's some nice retail stuff, if you want to get some beer without going into an LCBO. It's been my pandemic go-to for morning coffee and it should be yours too.

So 50 million espresso drinking European Italians can be wrong after all.

Great service and delicious coffee! Their vegan chocolate beet muffin was amazing! A bit small but a great atmosphere and decor!

I have never quite seen such a unique menu as I have at HotBlack. This is our offices go to spot during the week to help us during that mid day slump. The staff is so genuinely friendly and the service is 10+. I love all their homemade freshly baked treats and each time I go I try out a new drink from their vast menu. Love their little patio in the back with the firepit. This place honestly has the best coffee/speciality drinks in the city! If you haven't yet been here you are missing out. Get on it!

Nice cafe, had the mint chocolate latte. It was good but could have been hotter. Their chocolate chip cookies are yummy.

Really good coffee, nice staff and food it's ok. The place is small and use to be full due to the good coffee I think. Prices are good and have tea options as well. 4 stars cause they don't have wifi.

The perfect spot for a coffee lover. Can be very busy so be prepared to take your drink to-go! This was truly my first REAL coffee experience, and I only needed one Americano to give me the energy (and then some) to get through the day.

Coffee here was great and the service was also very good. They had free sparkling water on tap and a very nice bathroom. Also the music was WAY above typical cafe standards when i was in there.

I love this spot! They have a very cute back patio that is great in the summer and even better in the winter when they light the fires. Coffee is perfection!

Owners and staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The coffee is exceptional and thoughtfully sourced. The baked goods (including in-house baked bread) is amazing. And, if that weren't enough, it has the best ambience of any coffee shop I've ever been to.

By far, this is probably the best coffee in Toronto. Strong first taste. Smooth third taste and great after taste.

Momi and her staff are the greatest. They pull excellent shots and offer a range of baked goods including gluten free choices. A definite downtown destination.

Service and people are grest but like most coffee shops can be slow depending on time of day. Coffee is a bit pricey compared to Starbucks. That being said I'm addicted and in love with their ginger brew coffee (iced or as a latte) It makes for a nice afternoon treat paired with any of their delicious baked goods. Faves are ginger molasses cookies and their walnut bar (essentially a giant butter tart square). Will always come back for more and will recommend to any coffee lover or anyone looking for a sweet treat.

I am definitely surprised by how friendly the staff are! Didn’t catch the lead barista’s name. But she’s amazing! She offered me sample of the iced Russian apple apricot tea! I absolutely love it! Will definitely come back regularly and recommend this place to my friends!

Best coffee shop in the city by far. Their lattes are amazing. One of the owners is apparently an award winning barista and it shows.

Fresh look at the barista business. Motivated staff, lighting fast service and exciting drink/food list are the shop's best qualities. Added bonus are the cool shop setting, shiny equipment and cute backyard patio. Great city retreat. Recommended.

This is as close to perfect as a coffee shop could be. Friendly staff, delicious food and drinks, and they have the best patio downtown.
