To some it might be busy for Sunday Brunch, but the forum is lively. Live Jazz, constant service, with people heading to the food stations for delicious food. The range is large and the quality is very good. If you go, be warned. You not be able to it try it all. First timers, must try the French toast. It is decadent! There is salmon, smoked salmon, bacon, eggs, sausages, etc. Including deserts such as home made cookies, desert squares, and waffles with real whip cream. For those coming on a special occasion, I recommend their drinks. My favourite is their Cesar but they have other classic brunch drinks too. The fruits, salad, and cheeses are fresh too. A great brunch spot.
Great smash burger! Get the 3 house made sauces, you won't regret it. FYI to those 5'6" and shorter males. The urinals should be on Toronto's tallest list.
The experience was solid. I would say that this is one of those must try places but you can’t make it a multiple time thing. The ambience is great but there’s an outline of the things you can get for brunch and you won’t find specifics. They dabble with having a variety of everything. Good place must try!
Lovely patio with good food and service. Food doesn't not come fast, but it's tasty. They have a great deal for wine on Tuesdays! Host staff, server and manager seems really nice as well.
The first time I was Toronto with my wife for a concert we stumbled upon the Hothouse. We go there every time we visit Toronto and it is always a great experience, the staff is always amazing and the food is excellent! It is in a great location and I am looking forward to our next visit!
Nice place, I love the Sunday buffet. They have jazz music inside, it's amazing. Drinks are not included Desserts are great, the Cinnabon ice cream is delicious
When in doubt, hothouse! This venerable eatery has been around for ages and it still delivers. Whether its a weekend brunch or a coffee and a dessert after a show, it never dissapoints, there always seems to be a table in its expansive dining area and service is consistently good. Their fries are excellent as a side, worth the added calories! Back in the day the mushroom soup alone was worth the buffet. The hothouse is an institution in the st Lawrence market neighbourhood.
Food was nothing but amazing at this place, would give 5 stars for it. I got a pasta that was well cooked, good portion with fresh ingredients. Where this restaurant fall apart is in service. Servers seemed to be in a hurry everytime they came to the table - literally asked how is everything for you before we could even taste the food. I could tell that they were taught how to do things right, but they just didn't care much as they were doing it. We went on a weekday and the restaurant was empty (just 2 tables occupied), they chose to seat us in the far corner vs. The other side where I could see some more comfortable seating. What bothered me the most was that they just pretended to see my vaccine certificate at the entrance - I showed them the QR code thinking they would scan while the person just saw it with her eyes and asked for ID and let me go in. If this is how they follow covid protocol when there are only 3 tables occupied in the entire place, I don't know what they would do on a Friday/sat night.
I went twice to Hot House, once for drinks and another one for brunch. For drinks I would recommend, it was excellent, and it can fit large groups with regular price. However, the brunch was terrible! I took eggs, salmon and spinach on an English muffin. It was served with re-heated potatoes on the side. I did not touch them! They don’t have plant-based milk. And the coffee was literal water with a coffee after-taste. My friend took the smoked salmon bagel, which, as presented, all split into a plate, and she had to compose it herself. Besides, her bagel was half-frozen. A total disappointment!
Excellent.we had a great time the service was perfect, the food was delicious. I finally found a drink that I thoroughly enjoyed the Thornbury citrus apple cider.
Came here for a date night and we enjoyed every moment. They have a wide selection of food here so there are lots to choose from (that is, from pasta to curry… it’s really diverse)!
I had the salmon with noodles which I believe was from their ‘global inspiration’ menu and it was so delicious. Truly perfection! Ambience was also lovely.
Beautiful ambience, both indoors and outdoors. Amazing and courteous service. Sort of disappointing that the food doesn't live up to the same standard, although it was decent. Wouldn't mind visiting again though.
Excellent experience for our table of 9. Cauliflower bites, Calamari and Haloumi Fries for appetizers. Caesar Salad and ribs were an excellent choice. Very good wine selection. Prompt and friendly service is always appreciate. Thanks again for a great evening.
Thanksgiving dinner was barely warm when it arrived at the table. They also allow animals on the patio while serving food which is a real problem for me.
Live this place. Sitting in the patio having a cold one and watching the world go by. Food is excellent and we didn’t feel rushed at all. Would definitely recommend the Hothouse
Ate here for lunch today and the patio was packed but we were seated quickly. It took a while for our order to be taken and for the food to arrive because they were so busy. We got some cold rolls for appetizer and they were mushy and fell apart when you tried to pick them up. I ordered the Thai noodle salad (basically Pad Thai). It came with the smallest slice of lime that I could only squeeze about 5 drops of it on my meal! The Thai noodles were salty and needed something sour to cut the salty/fishy taste, something tasted off about it. My dad loved his ruben and sister liked the mushroom pizza. All around okay place, lots of vegan/vegetarian options but nothing really unique or different, pretty basic options.
Great patio! Sweet staff~ the woolranch burger is my go to! Thing is, that its quite pricey, but aside from that, great place for a nice casual evening outing
I loved this place! My seafood pasta was delicious! They could’ve added a few more shrimp & scallops though. Carrot cake is flavourful and moist. Lots of variety and reasonable prices. They provide free bread, which is a service I always appreciate. Our server was very nice, orders correct and quick. Really big restaurant!
A great experience staff was very friendly. Service was good food took a little bit of time to come out but then again we didn't care cuz we were having a good time. Covid-19 protocols in place.
Went for lunch on the patio. Sunny, our waitperson was terrific! Knew the menu well and suggested an excellent wine. Their Covid precautions were much appreciated. We will go back!
I came here on the weekend for brunch with friends and was impressed by the sheer amount of space available, particularly on the patio. I had the avocado toast and my main thought was that I could've made something about as good at home. I also had the home fries which I think were both underfried and underseasoned. I asked my friends about their meals and they loved them, so it bumped my review up a bit. It's definitely a great spot for sitting on the patio with company, but the food is mediocre. I also thinking they're lacking a bit in creative vegan and vegetarian options.
Well prepared food, generous portions. The salad was very fresh and the soup prepared in house. The patio is a beautiful plant bounded hide-away from the downtown street.
So so happy to have you back, Hot House, all covid-safety protocols in-place, indoors & out; great chefs & kitchen staff turning out long-missed fave pastas & salads (the new seafood Puttanesca is awesome, not to mention the always-best calamari appetizer in town) ; cheerful attentive servers delivering our orders promptly & politely (special shout-out to Olivia with the beautiful smile) You're the BEST Hot House! We missed you so much! Yeah!
10/10. The atmosphere was nice, the waiter was really nice and the food was just great. Went there for their “Mussel Monday” and they did not disappoint! Got mussels and salmon and they were both so fresh! Definitely recommend their tiramisu as well!
Food is not tasty at all. The sauce of the eggs Benedict was tasting weird and the potatoes were very dry and tasteless. The service was very lovely and that is the reason I am giving this place 2 stars.
Okay. Waitor made an effort. Main course okay, skimpy amount of vegetables. Creme brule was poor, espresso was not hot or very good. Being a work thing didn't have to pay making it bearable.
My wife and I attended The Hot House on the last saturday in December 2018 around 5pm. The service was great and the food was on point. Our food came out in a timely manner. However, one of our plates was dirty. It was quickly replaced.
We were there with a rather large group (68) for the buffet Sunday brunch. $35 including tax and gratuity, but did not include any drinks. Food was excellent, variety exceptional, service friendly. Would highly recommend the brunch buffet. I have been before.
Great Food. Was there on Sunday for their Buffet. The owner was in the Res. Cleaning tables and making sure that his customers are happy. Our party of 7 people all enjoyed our Birthday celebration at the Hot House.
Yummy food with a appetizing look. I ordered Jambalaya. First time having it and totally loved it. Spicy and bold with a good mix of shrimp, chicken and italian sausage served on a bed of tasty rice. Yum! Also the location was very nice, our table was overlooking the street, lots of natural light and the server was very experienced and attentive to all guests.
Service was great and the server gave excellent recommendations! I'm usually skeptical of non-traditional choices in places like these but they're Poke bowl was great!
I've been loving Hot House for decades (back when it was East Side Mario's in the 90's). It's a fabulous restaurant, with great atmosphere, enjoyable Jazz quartet band, an assortment of delicious food items, which all make the Sunday Brunch amazing!
The restaurant's dinner menu is very good as well - try the Jambalaya and grab cakes, or, the blackened fish, you'll be happy you did.
I hope the new owners maintain the quality and reasonable price.
A good restaurant, good food options, not too wxpensive, amazing location (go for a dinner and enjoy a Toronto downtown walk and view afterwards), enough parking close by, good dinner buffet (lots of dessert options) on Wednesdays.
Well priced buffet. Good selection. More impressed by the 10 cakes! Geez so many. The French toast was so good.
I will say the meat was a bit dry, some things were lacking flavors or interesting taste or were dry. But overall good. They're quick to get rid of your plates so service is good. If you go earlier around 10-1030 it's better since it's a little less busy.
Good venu, nice atmosphere, good food with lots of options. Good at entertaining large groups. The wait staff however are pushy and tend to try and rush you to the bill.
Delicious brunch. Fantastic variety, something for everyone in the group. Reservations are a must. Service was spot on, our server Colton was very attentive to ensure we had everything we needed.
This is a great spot I stumbled across online and made a reso before going to a concert. We had a great Bartender Vinnie that makes some delish hand crafted cocktails. I reccomend the smokey old fashioned if I may. The Jerk Cauliflower was amazing! The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that my Girlfriends pasta was pretty bland and the Chef may need to tweak it a little. The other is that I ordered a Prime rib which was delicious but a little bit thin. I can totally deal with that considering we had great service in a fine dining ambiance! Oh, and a shout out to the other Bartender David, Kudos! Go Habs go! ;)
Company holiday dinner for 60 or so guests. Service was good but food was average. Layout was disappointing because they packed 8 people onto 2 square tables (should have been only 6 so it was a bit tight). Music combined with acoustics made it difficult to talk to others otherwise it would be a 4 star experience and I would say 3.5 was my rating
Great ambience and atmosphere to have a meal. Also, great for hosting work parties and special events for upto 300 people. Fresh produce is used for the food the they deliver on your plate. Servers and chefs are very good at accommodating individual needs if any. Good selection of items on the menu. Food is cooked to perfection and to individuals liking.
I am not one to write online reviews. Take a look at my profile and you will see this. I only bother to do it, when I am either very pleased or disappointed with a place.
I work nearby so I'd been meaning to try this place for a long time. I got to say aside from the great location, I was incredibly disappointed. We ordered the Pizza the Di Parma and the Tuna Poke Bowl. Both dishes at $19.
The pizza barely had any marinara sauce, the amount of mozzarella cheese was comical, and the 4 measly slices of Prosciutto were paper thin. So much so, that they were even see through!
The tuna Poke Bowl consisted of 80% shredded lettuce. The remainder was 3 slivers of cucumber, a half scoop of some very tasteless and partly frozen Edamame and a measly scoop of rice, the amount of tuna, to be fair, was adequate considering the $19 price tag. Most of the dish was bland because whoever made it couldn't be bothered with drizzling the dressing over the whole dish. Instead they choose to soak the heel out of the tuna. So much so, that it completely overpowered its flavor!
I tell you, aside from the great location this restaurant is not even a single star.
Wonderful experience. We came to The Hot House for my birthday and were very happy we did. The staff are nice, especially the blonde hostess at the door who was working October 10th around 6-7pm. She was amazing. So friendly, kind, and welcoming. The food was so good. We didn’t know what to expect as we chose the Italian Buffett, but you couldn’t go wrong with a single dish. We’re vegetarians and had so many choices. We would definitely recommend and dine here again if we find ourselves in downtown Toronto. Parking can be a little chaotic, food and service so worth it!
It was a very busy place on a Sunday, lots of food, we did the buffet which was 27.95 plus tax. Which includes coffee, tea, soft drinks but my sister ordered lemonade which was $5 plus extra. So beware of ordering your drinks.
Great restaurant for all ages and big family gatherings or events. Amazing all you can eat brunch on a Sunday until 3pm with 2 mimosa's for 10$ management and service always been 100% and really look after their regular customers which is very admirable to see. Fantastic variety on the menu and quality of food is great, been there multiple times over the last 8 years and never had one complaint after all this time.
Staff work very hard to make your visit great and are the main reason to visit. Location is good, vibrant yet didn't find the traffic outside intrusive. Buffet not great, you can do better almost anywhere else but that's the price you pay for the location. The roast beef was hit and miss, the first roast was dry and tough but was replaced later with a new, much juicer one. Good. The roast chicken soon ran out and wasn't replaced while the staff brought out more vermicelli vegetables even though the pan was still full. The cakes are very good, almost as good as they were four years ago when they were outstanding. Four stars with the desserts, it would have been five stars with a better buffet.
Let me start with the ease of getting table without reservation althoughit is preferred you have one because it is a busy restaurant
Even though, the staff provide excellent service and make sure you have what you need The food is delicious and do check it out for wednesday for gourmet dinner buffet with all varieties and delicacies and the most wonderful taste
It is a shame that i could not reward arturo for the excellent service he provided because me and my friend were out of money If the owner is listening please raise that man's pay because he went beyond his service to give us a great evening I will reward him personally if i get a chance to go there again.
Excellent and elegant ambience for a wonderful family dinner
We ate here last evening on recommendation. I have to say the service was great. The food however was not. Being celiac I had the gluten free pizza. The crust was soggy and rubbery, almost not cooked through. I appreciate the restaurants effort to cater gluten free, but this is honestly just not a good product. My husband had a pasta dish and felt that it tasted boxed. I am sorry but I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
