The cashier in this restaurant is very mean because I work as a courier, and whenever I go to pick up an order from this restaurant, the cashier treats me in a very rude way

Decent entry level Peking duck in terms of price (they temporarily increased it when there were duck shortages but now it’s permanent) and taste (prepared more in the Cantonese style)

The good thing about this place is that they have a huge variety of dishes from congee, bbq, seafood, noodles, fried rice, and stir fried dishes, and sizzling plates/casserole pots. The bad thing is that everything just tastes average. No wok hay; sometimes undercooked; sometimes overcooked.

The food tasted amazing and had a lot of flavor, it would be perfect if all the food was hot when served though. I got the Roast duck, Roast BBQ pork, Chinese sausage fried rice and deep fried shrimp dumplings. Although they tasted amazing, the meats were not hot.
(I was too hungry by the time the rice arrived so I forgot to get an untouched photo.)
Only received a 4 instead of 5 for food and service because not all the food was hot, and although our server was friendly and helpful, she was probably stretched thin and we had a long wait for our food.

This is one of the very few places that is just great for late night dinner! Although they don't have much vegetarian choices on their menu, but for whatever they have, all are super tasty. A lot of time, we tried to experiment by making special request, substituting their non-vegetarian dishes with tofu and veggies, they all turned out just brilliant!
What impressed us the most, which makes us coming back here again and again, (apart from great food of course) is that whenever we made special request like this, the staff are always very understanding and super helpful and patient with us, not once have anyone made us feel awkward or we are inconveniencing them.
Everyone works there are super friendly and courteous, and very hard working. Unlike a lot of other restaurants, they take the COVID-19 dine-in safety protocol very seriously. Even during the lockdown, they were one of the very few that installed safety dividers right from the beginning of the pandemic.

Always great food at house of gourmet! You can get the Chinese classics - everything from wonton mein to Peking duck to congee. Service is always super efficient and food is served quickly!

This is our Chinese go to place. They have so many food options in the menu that you know it will satisfy your Chinese cravings. We’ve tried a lot of their dishes and have our favorites. The food is delicious with good portions. Can’t go wrong.

This place reminds me of a rough and rowdy Guangzhou eatery. It is my favourite Chinese restaurant in the downtown Chinatown area. Delicious and affordable

The best Chinese food in the city! I recommend the congee, with a side of Chinese donut, dash of white pepper. BBQ Pork is perfect everytime and minced beef in Chinese donut in rice noodle with hoisin and peanut butter.absolutely delicious!

I have been going to House Of Gourmet for breakfast for a few years. They have a very reasonably priced breakfast menu. For $4.75 plus tax and gratuity, you have a breakfast item and a hot beverage. The food is decent, and the servers are friendly. It gets 5 stars for what you get with the price you pay, and friendly service.

Food is decent at this place, but for the price, not a stand out. Also, the wait staff are very focussed on flipping tables. I get it, there are people waiting to be seated, but if you dine in and don't order right away, wait staff will ask for your order multiple times. Wait staff will walk back and forth frenetically, and they pass you the bill before you ask for it. If you'd like eat your food fast, this is the place for you. But, if you'd like to dine in, prepare to be rushed from start to finish if you go during busy peak hours.

I've been going here since it opened and it has changed a lot. But the food is inexpensive for a downtown location, open late for those hard partiers, good bbq off the front, and clean. Never had a bad meal or dish here. Where it loses out on me is how much better it use to be. Much rather go here then Kings Noodles on price alone.

Menu is extensive. Been there many times. Did a review before. Great place for large to medium size group. Next time will order Chap Voy Fann.

Used to be a great place to have dinner with family. Now fewer food serving than before. Longer time to serve food. Staff just want to know your order and get paid. If you’re looking for a family place. Try someplace else.

We've been coming here once every month or two and loved the food and the prices. Our last trip, though, my wife and I got a soup since it was cold out and our daughter got her usual bbq pork with rice.

The soup broth smelled odd and tasted funny like they mixed fish and soy sauce in with it. It must've been something else wrong with the broth (shared for two different dishes which is normal to use the same base for multiple dishes). We both had diarrhea that day after getting home which thankfully cleared up by the next day.

Our daughter was spared because she ate rice instead of soup.

Just stay away from the soup here. The other dishes are great and the prices are very reasonable.

Food was pretty good. Price was also really good. I got a huge bowl of congee for only $5 ($4 USD). However, I have to deduct a star for the service. The waitress was a little impulsive and refused to give me an extra delivery box. Also, they had a $20 credit card minimum, so I had to order more than I can eat by myself. If the party is more than one person, than the $20 threshold can probably be reached.

Wasn't going to write a review since I thought it wouldn't be very special (only came here since King Noodle was closed at 12AM) but this place was a lot better than expected. We ordered the Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup and BBQ Pork + Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup. The soup was perfect (not too salty) and came with a LOT of noodles (way more than other HK places). The BBQ pork tasted fresh despite us coming in at ~1AM but could be cut more thinly, however the shrimp wontons were probably the best I've tasted in Toronto (very authentic & flavourful). Everything was great (BBQ pork could be cut better) and very filling for the price. Service wasn't the best but it can definitely be overlooked for the great food!

My absolute favourite Chinese restaurant on Spadina. Lots to choose from but you can't go wrong here.

House Of Gourmet is one of favorite restaurants that we come many years in the Chinatown. Good congees, barbecued meat noodles, barbecued meat on rice, few dishes are all items that we order. The menu has good lists of combo deals. It has new management shortly years, some staffs has been old new faces, quickly take empty dishes without asking first. It has short stairs, no provide access for any people with disabilities. (2017 August).

Very authentic and satisfying quality congee (preserved egg and pork), egg noodles, and tung Choi. Fast and affordable.

Food is very reasonably priced. I had brisket and egg noodles for $5.50 + tax. Prices could probably be cheaper if it weren't for the recent renovations. The place is quite clean and the interior is modern, not your typical hole in the wall Chinese restaurant.

So you can take your love one out on a date get a delicious yet affordable meal and still have money left over for gas or a bus token. And don't have to walk home penniless and eat bread and water til your next pay check.

What I love about Chinese food is that they bring gourmet food to the masses. In other words, you won't get gauged for eating yummy food. For instance, fried chicken other than KFC or Popeyes will start at $15 and up. You can eat dinner for two at this place and that including the tip!

Awesome food. Great selections. You can order a combo 6-10 kinds of dishes. Reasonable price. It's crowded & busy but the staff definitely knows how to handle & cater to their customers. I've been here a couple of times & it's always been a "to go" place for me while in Toronto.
