I have been coming to this place for years. It really takes me back to Taiwan.

They have the best Taiwanese bento boxes in the GTA area. The prices are reasonable, the quantity and quality of their foods cannot be beat when it comes to Asian foods. Very authentic flavours. I have introduced this place to countless friends and coworkers.

I highly recommend their popcorn chicken! Cash only and take out only. It gets really busy around lunch hour, so come earlier or later.

0/5 rating if I would. How do I put this? It was all wonderful when the original owner started the business in the 90s. The food was truly delicious. The owner was indeed from Hua-Lien Taiwan. However, the food went south after the business was sold to a different management several years after, probably around 2005 and I told myself I will never go back again, but once for a while I still go back and check it out. It’s probably just to give them another chance. The experience has gotten worse and worse. Today I visited the restaurant again and I can’t stand it any longer and decide to write this review. I won’t give this restaurant another chance ever again from now on! Period. The chicken is not fresh, especially the chicken legs, by the smell of it! The sausage is hard as rocks. The marinated egg is salty to a point that can’t be swallowed at all! Most of the food is salty. We got to drink lots of water after all. I am not sure why the rating is still good, despite of the negative experience encountered over the decades. Truly hope the current management would reflect and improve conscientiously!

Been here a few times now. I love the popcorn chicken bento, Braised pork chop and the Raised chicken leg. Always tasty home cooked meal. Cash only.

This is one of the best kept secrets in the GTA. The bento box is an absolute bargain, and they have the best Taiwanese popcorn chicken I've ever had, and that includes many places I've been to in Taiwan. This might be the best popcorn chicken in the world.

Best place for Taiwanese popcorn chicken. It is my regular go to.
My family has been going there for at least 15-20 years. The food is always tasty and it is quite affordable too.

Their overall selection is decent but the overall quality lacks in comparison to Wei’s and Papa Chang’s. There are many decent choices for cheap eats in this plaza’s food court so it’s quite interesting why this place won’t try to serve bigger portions for the prices they charge.

Very small portion of 3 side dishes (few pcs each only) -with tax $12. Badly organized, waited 25 mins, plus given wrong box. Wei's Taiwanese Foods @ Birchmount/Sheppard-HUGE DELICIOUS portions for $8.50+tax.

I've been coming here for the past 5 years. The food is good, although the price went up from years back (well, inflation, I get it). It's one of those dishes that as a Taiwanese kid, you just gotta have once in a while.

I’m the regular. Enjoy eating popcorn chicken on rice. Love having the choices on side dishes. Their popcorn chicken is bomb! You can actually taste the chicken! Recommend this place. Losing one because of services. Some ladies are nice some are a little rude.

Usually I would give this place a full 5 stars but last time just want quite as good as they usually are. I had ordered the fried chicken breast for the first time and it wasn't very good (the boneless fried chicken leg is MUCH better) but the pork chop I also ordered wasn't as good as before. I'll still order from here as it's one of my favorite Bento shops and hopefully next time everything will be back to the quality I have gotten used to from this shop.

I live in Brampton but whenever I’m in Toronto I try to make my way to Markham for a snack especially The Popcorn Chicken. (yummmmmmy) Sometimes I bring it back up and it tastes great even after I reheat it up in the oven. The spicy powder got the kick! Love it!

My favourite spot for Taiwanese take out. They have the best popcorn chicken I've ever had. And I love the choice of 3 veggie sides you get. If you come during peak dinner time, be prepared to line up a bit (average 10min).

Great value Taiwanese styled bento take away! Great fried chicken cutlet and popcorn chicken. But sometimes the popcorn chicken is slightly too fatty for my liking

Taiwanese BBQ Bento box. Choice of meat (like popcorn chicken, fried pork chop, chicken leg, etc) and three side dishes with rice. Good food and good value. Take out only. Happy to see it's still in business and busy

11 Oct 2011 Tue noon. Get the corn salted chicken, braised fish benton. Each comes with 1 main and 3 side dishes, though the sides are tiny in quantity. But it is $9 at present living standard. Slight spicy flavor on some item in the dishes. An ideal lunch and would go for other varieties soon. When the pandemic is really over, should try local Taiwanese food in the Formosa land️

This was always the go-to place for some Taiwanese Bento. Unfortunately, they jacked up the price and reduced the portion. Why? ‍️ Covid Tax?

Though this place has BBQ in the name, it is really a Taiwanese lunch box take out place.

The side dishes change regularly, but the green beans and tomato egg are my favorite. As for the main dish option, you can’t go wrong with the classic stewed minced meat or the popcorn chicken.

The best Taiwanese bento (lunch box) place anywhere. Fantastic value and lots of options too in terms of mains and sides to choose from.

The food there is excellent. However, the middle age lady who working in the cashier is totally nonsense! After she touch the cash, she didn’t change her gloves/ sanitizer her hands, then go to serve the food, her fingers touched the food when she holding the food container and the inner side of the container cover when she is packaging. Which means all the germs on the cash from everyone will go into my food! This is totally unacceptable especially during the pandemic!

Such a good place for a quick lunch! Lines can be long during the lunch rush but it goes quick. I usually get the popcorn chicken bento and it comes to about $10. Super filling the delicious plus you get to choose 3 sides!

Every time I said Thank you after making a payment to them, they never responded a thing. They are prone to act like they are the arrogant boss with decent income and social status and assuming an enormous air of superiority towards people.

Quick and energetic service. If you’re here for the first time, you might need to search the names of the side dishes beforehand I’ve seen non mandarin speakers confused at what to pick. Sometimes the River is on the hard side too. But, I assure you it’s all gonna be delicious. May be the most authentic Taiwanese place in Toronto.

Some time is a bit salty for my taste. I would give it 3.5 stars but their price is pretty reasonable. So 4 stars.
Saw huge line up, so decided to give it a try, went back couple hrs later. A lot of items are sold out. Maybe that’s why some of my rice are real hard.

The food is still so good even after being open for many years. Portions are big and price is good. Honestly can't say enough good things about this place.comfort taiwanese food is the best! My go to is the pork chop or the pork corn chicken. Love love love this place.

Friendly staff and lovely food! The quantity is sufficient, but the price is very low. I sometimes worry if they can make money from it.

Last week was the first time we came to that restaurant. But It is absolutely not the last. We had a good time with the courteous service, with the magnificent meal and wine and with the comfortable payment. We will definitely come back again.

I come to this place often as a regular customer. Probably is the best and most authentic Taiwanese bento place you‘ll find in the GTA. You can choose a main meat dish (i.e. Popcorn chicken, braised fish, fried pork chop, etc.) Then you can choose 3 sides from a whole variety of veggies that are placed on the counter. Usually there are 10 or more options to choose from. Food is of good taste and consistency. Prices are also very reasonable.

The only reason I am giving a 3/5 star is because in many instances I find that the customer service and attitude of the ladies behind the counter terribly lacking. Except for the owner and her daughter who are quite nice, the other ladies seriously have attitude problems. Perhaps they are nicer to non-Asians based on the reviews here, but for Asians who don‘t follow protocol they quickly lose patience and raise their voices and hardly smile. It makes you feel like they are doing you a favour for serving you.

One time I was lined up behind an elderly Chinese man who had a hearing impairment. When asked what he wanted, he couldn't hear and was unable to respond. Rather than being compassionate and helpful, the lady behind the counter just continued to raise her voice indignantly and in the end just served him something randomly. The elderly man was speechless, but just went along without arguing. Probably wasn't what he wanted. It was a very terrible experience for those standing there watching.

I really hope the owners of this place can do something to improve their customer service. Taiwan is known for its politeness, world class customer service, and respect for people. For now, I don‘t think the staff there really reflect that.

This spot clearly knows how to take care of their customers. Always with a super friendly mindset. The food is fairly priced, regularly tasty and neat.

Tai Ping Hsiang is one of the very few Taiwanese Bento box spots and they do it very very well. You pick your main protein and choose 3 sides which are laid out in a steam table. There's quite a variety from eggplant, green beans, broccoli, tofu skin, mapo tofu, omlette, etc. I really appreciate that they freshly make the Taiwanese popcorn chicken if you choose that as your main protein!

Portions are generous and the people working there are so lovely. Note that the picture of the styrofoam container of food is from the corner spot inside the Metro Square food court.

Favourite place to get Taiwanese food, either as a snack or meal. You pick your protein and then you get to pick 3 veggie sides with rice to make a bento box under $10. It is cash only.

The place offers a fantastic range of fresh food. I loved dining here. Staff members are always kind, prices are convenient and the place is always well organised.

This BBQ takeout place is located in the Metro Square plaza with the entrance from the outside only.

It’s a very busy parking lot so watch out for lots of people walking plus drivers looking for parking.

The queue for ordering moves along quickly.

I chose a salt & pepper crispy chicken leg served with steamed rice & 3 veggie sides $8.15.

My go-to place for Taiwanese popcorn chicken and garlic fish nuggets. The sides they offer with their bento combos are delicious as well.

The food is very good, from crispy salty chicken to all the veges.very delicious indeed. They will be quite busy around noon, only 2-3 tables. I usually take out, the best service was OK, quite rude most of the time. But the food worth the waiting line and rude service.

The pork chop on rice at this place is absolutely authentic and delicious!
