Humber River Hospital Emergency Room

After experiencing their Emergency Department 3 times I can honestly say I hate this hospital. The first 2 experiences were ok, just ok but my last one was the worst.

I am pregnant and went in as I was having weird feelings in my chest and stomach. The triage nurse at the registration desk told me that she would ensure the baby gets checked out too.

After waiting hours, the doctor comes in with a very annoyed demeanour and was extremely rude and dismissive. They pushed hard on various areas of my stomach and said it was to check if there was something wrong with my liver even though I told him I was pregnant. They didn’t call for an ultrasound stating that it doesn’t seem like anything is wrong and to just follow up with my family doctor if it continues. The whole time they treated me as if they didn’t know why I even wasted their time. Was in and out in 3 minutes max.

Less than 2 weeks later I had an ultrasound at an imaging centre where they noticed I had cervical issues which could have explained the pain I was feeling. Was sent to the hospital and ended up having to go under for a procedure. If this doctor didn’t dismiss me and had ordered the ultrasound, I know I would be in a better place today.

If you don’t have to go to this hospital please don’t. This doctor was a man who appeared to be of North Asian descent maybe about 5ft9 or 10 with a Caribbean sounding accent. They didn’t introduce themselves so I couldn’t catch their name. Shame on you.

For some reason, the hospital is not working at full capacity, as if someone is knowingly and willingly victimizing people and making them wait in the emergency room for hours.

So understaffed, very dirty and the few members of staff they have working here are rude and make it seem like your bothering them when asking for help.

I went to ICU once here and trust me 2.1 rating is justified. There were people making [redacted] sounds as if they were [redacted] literally and there was some flirtious behaviour by [redacted]. Last thing, one expects from ICU service in the night when arms were thought to be fractured and you are waiting for the service. It was amusing though.

Anyway, rest of the service was great apart from waiting time of few hours. (>3)

Rude nurses at the front, went to ask how long the wait was and she says "everyone is waiting" like i know everyone is waiting i'm not dumb, then i clarify that i want to know how many people are in front and then she answers me, how do you hire people to work in healthcare who have an attitude like that

I remember, the nurse cannulize on my right arm (dominant arm) for intravenous fluids. Its kinda weird that they insert a needle to your right arm without even asking your dominant hand. What if you will have to stay longer with your IV and you need to use your dominant hand for writing.

2 hours from showing up to leaving with a minor wound closed up.

Went the the ER with my girlfriend due to a severe allergic reaction waited for 2 hours for the check in nurse to rudely send us home after telling her to shorten her symptoms to yes or no answers. Humber River ER has always been the worse emergency room in Toronto and probably the province. The way they decide fast track appears random at times on top of it that if you do get fast tracked you can still be waiting hours to see a doctor who probably doesn’t care and tries to get through you fast. Travel the distance and go else where

Becase of my dizziness I felt many time and I have back pain.u call the ambulance they take me here and it is not very busy they say there is no bed you should sit and wait. I I can sit why I am here

Came to emergency less than 24 hours from my septoplasty endoscopic sinus surgery because of constant bleeding. Waited 7 hours in emergency and the nurses and triage must of asked me the same questions 4 times. INCOMPETENT WORKERS!

The triage nurses were a little bit harsh, but I think is because is the most stressing part of the process.
All the other people I meet in this hospital was incredibly lovely and helpful. Stayed at the pediatrician area for 3 days and even the people who brought food and clean was amazing.

On June 5th at 9: 34 pm I walked into Humber River Hospital emergency room while having a heart attack. The triage nurse on duty at the door was more concerned about relocating a wheelchair at the time. She entered my name and chief complaint of chest pain into a kiosk machine, which printed out a numbered ticket. After waiting 45 minutes with intermittent chest pain and seeing a woman with a sprained ankle being registered, I asked if a someone having a heart attack is a higher priority than someone with a sprained ankle. I eventually got into an emergency room bed after midnight and blood tests showed elevated troponin levels confirming a non-stemi heart attack had occurred. I took two chewable aspirin before going to the emergency room which may have saved my life. I was consequently moved to Sunnybrook hospital by ambulance for a triple coronary artery bypass. The ambulance technician advised that I should have called 911 instead. They would have taken me to Sunnybrook directly where I would have received the treatment I needed faster. Hopefully some lessons for both the hospital and patients can be learned from this review.

Worst Experience ever. Visited hospital yesterday waited for 4 hours but no updates. Pain was unbearable therefore had to leave hospital and get treatment elsewhere.

I f I was able I would give 0 star. In 30 minutes after 4 times that I was keep calling and the operator transferred me to the Emergency department I was each time 4 to 5 minutes on the line to ask my questions regarding my documents from the hospital. The rude guy answered my phone after 3 minutes on the 4th time of my calling and when I asked him to check the system for my document. He said I can do it because you don't understand what I mean and when I said this is not the nice talking, he just hanged up my Phone. I feel so sorry for the people how has to go there as a patient. I am still shocked of what he told me few minutes ago.

There is no one waiting in the lobby, doctors are gossiping while I am suffering for over 6 hours at 3 am in the morning

More than 2 hours to get triage alone. Screw Canada hospital system. Bunch of money grabbing pathetic management

Been to emerg a few times and I’d say about 80% was positive. They follow a method called Triage where they prioritize the sickest people first so if there was a wait, it was because there were people in worse condition. Every time I went in with a real emergency, I was treated within 30min to 1 hour. There are a few bad doctors and nurses but most were friendly and helpful. This an emergency room. If you go with an emergency you will be treated ASAP. If you go there for something that isn’t time sensitive, you will have to wait

It’s an emergency but took me 3-4 hours waiting just for ultrasound, not so busy but its just too slow. Not a good experience at all.

I was there last April for I had COVID pneumonia. I registered 1/2 hour after I walked through the door and was seen 2 hours later. I had blood work, CT and X Ray done all in the remaining time I was there. Excellent service BUT wait was long. Best place to go to be looked at for it's a state of the art facility.

Worst hospital ever waiting 7+ hours just to see a doctor in emergency unbelievable a person in a pain and 7 hrs in emergency useless hospital and when you ask how long will it take their answer is there is currently no doctor so we are waiting for a doctor to start a shift common guys its an emergency learn the meaning of it this hospital has made a joke of patients life and their value.

This is not emergency. More than 200 patients on emergency. They say there is one doctor. 12 hours waiting and no one came

More than 9hrs just to see a doctor! Let alone waiting for tests and results. Doctors and nurses here have no shame. They pass by the rooms laughing and joking with each other while babies are crying their lungs out with no care.
If they are understaffed, they should clearly declare that so we start questioning where our tax money goes!

If you are about to die, is better you don’t near go there, because it’s will be faster for you to die. Waited for almost 16hrs and head pounding like stone.

Came to the emergency room after a long day at work. 6: 30pm Feb 28 2022 checked in it is currently 2: 53am March 1 2022 still waiting for results. Took so long to start tests, blood tests and ultrasound. There is nowhere to buy food in here and they don't even care to offer you hospital food. Been here almost 9 hours this is crazy.

I went to ER and tell them I have worst pain in my stomach I am pregnant but they don’t care I waited 7 hours doesn’t matter you are dying or alive amd then I asked why it took so long they said it’s 10-12 hours usually you are lucky only 7 hours they don’t care anything happen to you they just sit over there worst hospital ever pls don’t go there if any thing serious

I have never had a bad experience at this ER. Some days are busier than others so you wait longer but I always had caring, attentive nurses and doctors who listened and didn't rush. Thorough with the tests they order. Covid has made an overtaxed health care system even more challenging. These nurses and doctors show up every day to help us. They are overworked, stressed and exhausted and provide the best care they can. Please be understanding and show them some appreciation. Maybe I have just been lucky but I have no qualms about going to this hospital.

This hospital is the worst I don’t recommend coming here at all, the worst service I’ve gotten here, waited 6 hours and wasn’t satisfied at all! Once your registered they take hours just to give you any updates or anything, don’t come here.

It's the worst hospital I came. Waited for 8hrs without seeing a doctor and that was in the emergency department so not recommend

Wait time in emergency to see a doctor is more than 5 hrs. No management and no manpower for triage. Only 2 doctors were attending all the patient

Worst emergency hospital I have ever seen in my life, they don't care about patient even if you die or just suffering with a severe pain. Once you get registered they will make you wait another hour to see a doctor in a room. So in total I have been there for 7 hours and still did not get a satisfactory treatment. Please do not go this hospital at all, this is my second time and I am already regretting.

Paola is such a very friendly and caring nurse at this hospital which I believe everyone feel well to see someone listen carefully and get the right advice. I have had a very good experience with her amazing service. Thanks alot Paola, stay safe

My grandma was sent here after she fainted in the bathtub. They treated her with care and got her a interpreter as she only speaks chinese. They put her in a nice clean room and allowed my mom to stay with her as she needs assistance with basic needs. The nurses were kind and the doctors were thorough. I see all these horrible reviews about the emergency room wait. But they took my grandma right away so im not sure what everyone is talking about.

Come here for any emergency and you will wait at least 5 hours.in pain, bleeding, who cares.wait. They are suppose to take critical patients first.not what I have seen as I wait close to six hours now with severe neck pain.

I could give 0 star if possible. The worst emergency room I’ve been to. My blood test shows that I have pancreatic disease and liver disease when I checked on Humber health website but he told me that the test was normal and nothing to be concerned. Doctor Eli Miller. The nurse wore mask in the wrong way that the mask didn’t cover her nose which is very dangerous to spread corona virus.

It was good, quick and friendly service. Probably because of pandemic the emergency wing was pretty empty. Thank you!
The one thing that was completely strange, are TV in every waiting area showing need with sound on. And the news were nothing positive, just COVID and troubles with vaccine. I would not add even more strass on patient who are already struggling.

Dr Elsa Clouatre was very kind, caring, knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and non-judgmental. Nurses were great too. The triage people could be more friendly/quicker/caring however it can be a tough job to have to deal with so many different people and situations. We cannot expect top of the line A+ service as these people are usually put in higher positions or achieve greater things. We can be more critical on doctors however, and I put 4 stars as I've had bad experiences in the past (misdiagnosis, given STD meds when didn't have one). All in all this is a hospital and we should be nothing but thankful and grateful for this gov-funded service and country.

Probably the worst emergency room in Toronto. Firstly, the wait is insane (for triage and to be seen) even if there aren’t a lot of people there. Secondly you have condescending nurses and doctors here who look at you funny if you have a single question. Thirdly there is no way to social distance while waiting to be triaged or waiting in the ozone. Preferred the hrrh at jane and finch when it was around. The wait was still long but at least their staff was very friendly and welcoming

This is listed as a COVID assessment center. There is no dedicated area. COVID sits in the same waiting room as everyone else. Makes no sense. Real testing centres have a dedicated separate line for processing.

Rude af broke my arm and waited for 5 hours for any help was litterly crying in pain and no one helped

Waited 12 hours to be told I should have a family doctor. No compassion from the doctor. I felt horrible my pain was super high. If your seriously sick go some where else. I really believe they don’t give a krap

I’ve had only 2 good experiences at night time the doctors were good but the wait was crazy.

The wait in triage and then in the waiting room is unacceptable in this day and age. There needs to be more organization and fast tracking once you have seen the doctor. That will speed up the front end wait.

Worst experience! Waited for 8 hours to see the emerg doctor, overall I spent 12 hours in emerg despite the fact that the nurses and the doctor knows that I’m in severe pain, bleeding and having complication from my previous procedure. On my 7th hour of waiting when we tried to follow-up with the nurse in the station who was busy chatting with her colleagues she was trying to justify the wait without even asking my name or the reason why I was there.
They are very disorganized, some staff are friendly but most of the nurses the night when I was there were annoyed if somebody will ask them questions.

There is a serious management issue in the hospital. If patients don't arrive at the hospital in EMS vehicle, the process to assess, determine and prioritize the urgency of case is really shabbily done. It seems like the management of the hospital is running a small time business and not a health care facility with reasonable sophistication.

Some cases are taken on without determining why they should be in ER. Heard a guy saying he had taken 7gms of marijuana and he couldn't feel his leg! For heaven's sake this is not ER to attend to. Saw an young guy bleeding profusely and he was told to take a number and wait for finishing registration. For heaven's sake fix these stupid issues or else step aside and let professionals do this job too!

Oh my God! Don’t go there. I repeat don’t go there! Waited for almost 5 hours. Nurses are so mean! No caring at all.

I was there for 10 hours! 1 hour wait to be triaged then I had to wait to be triaged again then waiting to go into the waiting room. 5 hour wait to be brought into a room. 1 hour wait to see the doctor. 1 hour wait to start the testing another 1 hour wait to get the result and then another 1 hour to get information on the specialist referrals. On top of this they didn’t have me in the right location throughout this process on their software. I spent most of my time siting/ standing/ sleeping. And the chairs are quite uncomfortable.
